What a thumbnail
had to smile when you were marking the pipe all the way around. Grinder is actually a really good cutting option
I can't believe how expensive everything surrounding concrete is. WOW. I'm building a 40x64 garage/shop and one estimate came in at 38k for slab and stem wall. So I'm going to do the footer and stem wall myself, and get the slab setup as well. I'll probably just have the guys come in and finish the concrete, since that is a skillset I don't possess. Hopefully I can knock that estimate down by half. Although materials are outrageous. It isn't just the labor.
Thank you sooo much for this awesome video. Straight to the point.
@@arsalan101 We are so happy you appreciate it. We try to keep these as short as possible while also being somewhat watchable.
What county are you in?
@@scruffy2255 La Plata county. Are you building soon?
@@Mountainview-mesa Hopefully in the next year or two in Pagosa. Your series has been great! It's hard to solid information/videos on building in southwest CO.

THOSE LEGOS! 🤣. How long did that take?!
Our friend @WittyBrickster made that clip for us!
Next time try and use some epoxy filler before hammering in those bolts to mount your electrical box. The epoxy is ~3times the strength of the concrete and once it dries it will be additive to the bolts and also coat them keeping them off the concrete mostly, which can have moisture.
@@SpaceVetMikee that's a very good suggestion, thank you!
What about that electrical conduit was not approved under the pad? What was there reasoning? Very Curious
@SpaceVetMikee the conduit was fine, it was the wire. We aren't allowed to run Romex in conduit or bury it; we almost did both haha
I’m in Hermosa. Will give Eagle a call when we get to that point. Thanks
@brucemurray2520 Wonderful! I love Hermosa. That's where my Grandpa lived. Beautiful area. Tell Eagle you found the video. He was a little nervous!
Biggest argument for keeping that band where you put it is easy taping placement. No special effort required to run the tape joint
@@AdamTillontheWeb yeah that makes sense! Drywall is definitely not my strength at all haha
@@Mountainview-mesa nor mine, but why should we let mere competency stand in the way right?
Neat video. Does it get cold when you folks are? Because apparently you can’t have the intake air too cold at risk of freezing the core.
We are just going into our first winter with it. We'll keep you posted how it goes.
@@Mountainview-mesa good stuff! We’re up in Calgary and I was trying to see when a preheater would be needed

Hey. Nice looking install. What CFM ERV do you have vs what is the output of the CFM performance. For example: I got the 210 CFM, but I get 175 after all my ducting as my max on the ERV.
@michaelsuggett710 Embarassingly, we haven't tested anything yet. We just set it on low flow for now and are trying to get the rest of the house built! The unit is a 210, though.

why didn't you pull the exhaust air out of the return duct work from the HVAC already in the home that pulls from various rooms already? You can also pump the fresh air directly into the return stack right on the other side of the air filter oposite the coils (still on return side). Then you didn't need any of that crazy ducting all thru the home.
@@justinadair5130 there is no HVAC in the home
@@Mountainview-mesawhat are you using for AC + Heat?
Im no expert but ive seen textures being done with some specific paint rollers, they give more unified textures all around the wall. Other that that, keep filming and uploading, love to see the place looking more and more like home!
That sounds really cool! We'll have to look into that for our next drywall project
Some ICFs have bucks as a part of the package. So you dont have to worry about wood rot. Also, wouldn't the concrete catch on screws better than nails?
@Th3120ck yes you are probably correct about the screws. However, the detail we chose will also work great.
Pro tip~ Not a big deal but when framing interior walls we usually don’t transfer roof loads to a 4” slab via a wall to avoid cracking or settling. If an interior wall is meant to have a load it will have a footing below. Simpson actually makes a clip that connects the top plate/ceiling which allows for movement. Thanks for the breakdown in cost. Very helpful! My next house will be built in concrete, possibly PIP since our company does that work (and framing) or maybe ICF. Fire insurance has gotten outrageous where I live but it’s MUCH cheaper with a concrete home.
@Falkon-dv6hl man, you are preaching to the choir! I wish we had time to explain all the issues with the engineering, truss order, design, implementation etc. You are very kind with your explanation, but it IS a big deal. Thank you for your input!
I’M GOING TO TALK TO THE CAMERA, SO DON’T LAUGH AT ME….that what I say to my employees
Happy you’re back! We’re wrapping up design on a similar build and your channel has been very reassuring to me as a first time owner-builder. Keep it up and good luck!
How amazing for you! What stage of your build are you in? It means a lot that you noticed our absence, thank you for following along.
Just a couple of days ago I looked to see what had happened to y’all. Glad to see a new video 😊.
Good to see you here, friend!
Highly recommend the AI wall controller, much easier to control the unit at your finger tip.
@@DewaltOwnersGroup I have been looking into that. Do you have personal experience?
@@Mountainview-mesa Yes. I have the VTTouch screen (wired) as my main controller. I also use VC0190 as a boost option in each bathroom (wired). It is a very nice feature to be able to control all aspects of the ERV. It also allows you to leave the ERV in smart mode, which for the most part.. does a good job.
@@DewaltOwnersGroup is the VTtouch series compatible with the BroanAI system?
Top plate on the exterior wall needs to be caulked...
Could also do ceramic coated screws through the bucks, Into the ICF wall cavity. Will give the concrete something to grab
@@Artemeco good idea!
Good information BUT why not round to the nearest dollar.
@@llee2096 just for accuracy. Some people really want those nerdy details!
@llee2096 This is a very odd thing to caught up on.
How did you attach to the icf foam
@wcbscout I tried to show this, but it was awkward getting the shot. I used 3½ inch decking screws and fender washers that I screwed through a wooden strap for a temporary hold. I took them down after concrete was poured.
May i know length and width dimensions
@satishvankineni5000 our home is 40ft by 60ft. This helped a lot because the blocks are 4ft long, we didn't have to cut anything for length.
Wonder how long did it take you to install ICF block walls excluding filming ? Hope you can share. I’m thinking of hiring installers not sure is it worth spending money for speed
If filming wasn't an issue, I would have had all of the ICF and rebar done in 2 days. If you are handy in the least, you can do it!
How did you order your trusses?
@JOHNdOE-yy2ld we went through Builder's First Source. It was a great process because I had never done it before. They walked me through options I never knew I had, so we ended up with a way better truss/roof system than i would have chosen on my own. I've been told that we paid too much for them, but BFS made it easy.
@@Mountainview-mesa thank you!
Are you using the poly wall on the icf that will be underground only?
@@maa4ever yes we are. It comes up about 4 inches above grade, then stucco!
There is no corner? Who would do that
?
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Add penalties for failure to meet deadline by X days. I added a 10% penalty on a 200K remodel. He dragged his feet in 2019 and 2020. His costs went up but we had a fixed price. COVID screwed him but he also made some stupid mistakes that cost him thousands to fix. He was 6 Months late. Which I wouldn’t have charged him the 10% until he tried to milk me for an extra 15K. I told him to pay me the 20K late fee and the 5K I had paid for materials which I had receipts for and I’d pay him his 15k. He walked out and I waited for lean or lawsuit but it never came.

Nice quick to the point video. Kudos for that. It seems like a pretty big span so I imagine a poured roof was likely going to cost much more than this? Did you even consider it?
@@theslawek I definitely considered it. My inner child wanted the full concrete bunker. Cost was the limiter.
Thank you for your videos. They are super helpful Which block system did you use and why?
We used Amvic blocks. There is no reason other than I wanted to work with BFS and Amvic is what they carry locally. All of the ICF systems are amazing. If it's done properly (i.e better than what we did), you will only need to worry about your foam for a week, two at most. Are you building soon?
