I love your analysis that the song is ostensibly positive and praising God, yet it maintains a tone of melancholy. The show itself is about a woman who has done horrible, horrible things in the past and is using the present to try her best to be a better person for the man she loves, but fate seems to keep forcing her to commit more and more sins. She wants salvation, but it's as if life itself is telling her she doesn't deserve to seek forgiveness. In a sense, she's already died, and she is suffering damnation. Another thing I would love to point out is the chorus: "Lord, fount of goodness, Lord, divine fire, have mercy" comes across as a simple prayer, but in the context of the show, it's a desperate plea from our female lead for forgiveness. One could argue that Lilium is from the perspective of Lucy who, having failed to become a better person, having failed to redeem herself in the eyes of her loved one, and having failed to even redeem herself in the eyes of the world, is asking the one person she feels is even possibly capable of forgiving her: the divine. And I don't think she believes he will either.

Music wasted on a pretty bad anime, seriously, it's too good.

Susumu Hirasawa is a legend in his own right with a long and productive career. His music has an instantly recognizable unique style.

I always like the look on people's face when they are introduced to Guts and only understand him as a violent man but then when they play Guts' Theme they have visible confusion because I can tell they were expecting something equal as violent like the songs My Brother or Blood and Guts. I would highly recommend listening to those as well as some others from the Berserk soundtrack. Though we Berserk fans can't get a studio to do a good faithful adaption of Berserk, we can always count on having a good soundtrack to listen to as we read it.

I got a good one you can react to, you can react to, "Salve maria/peace be with you" from soul eater🩷. studio ghibli has really good ones, but those will get copy written. Kingdom hearts has really good opera too, even though it is not an anime.

Damn I actually saw this anime 2 or 3 weeks ago, and this very music made me burst into tears from the first second of the trailer.

2:54 you actually were, in terms of the anime at least! The way you described the feeling the song gives, is exactly what the anime is about! The lyrics are taken from a bible, but even with that it’s awesome to see the emotions the song gives off are a representation of the story of the anime! I always felt the deep sadness of Lucy (the girl the anime is about) when not only listening to the song but also seeing the visuals of the opening. By the way, there is a saints version of this song that plays in the anime and is performed by all men, you should listen to that one too!

I am ofc going to say you should watch MIA, s1 the film and s2, it is without a doubt one of the greatest things I have ever seen, higher even on my list than Frieren But VOH and Gravity from the s2 OST would be amazing fro you to do rection videos for, VOH especially with your being a singer. They are both also with Takeshi Saito and holy heck the things he does in VOH.

This song still gives me goosebumps to this day, it's possibly one of the best OP songs ever from an anime for all time. The performance is brutal, the arrangement sublime, the lyrics incredible and obviously the anime is impeccable. It's just almost perfect in every way.

The only thing I think about when I hear this song is from a Hollow Knight clip where this guys is like, "What are we gonna fight the sun," this song starts playing and yes, he is gonna fight the sun lol

You are correct that the song is melancholic. Japan in the 90s 2000s loved to use christanity in their darker genres. I believe that a prayer like this is usually seen through the context of a plea to a merciless god. Basically its people expecting to be struct down by god and are desperatly singing to appease god and not die.

It saw this like over 10 years ago but i believe the basic plot of this is kinda like a stranger things, super 8, type show in that there are beings experimented on that have pychic powers and one escapes. I dont remember if there are other phycics or en external threat and i think it also plays witht the themes of amnesia.

"Brothers" from fma03 is a good ost. While it's from 03 it fits Brotherhood as well. Honestly older watchers were legitimately surprised when it didn't show in the newer anime. It's a classic, you'd love it for sure. I like Dante's waltz too (heck the whole ost collection's great), but Brothers is the one to go too.

Bleach has way better tracks than one piece just saying. For example nothing can be explained.

I'm not all the way through the story. But made in abyss appears to me as an anime about a girl who is looking for her mother. But no one is brave enough to tell the little girl her mother is dead and her search is pointless. So this little girl moves heaven and earth to see her mom one last time. I'm not sure how the story will progress, but the overarching theme seems to be loss of childhood innocence and children learning how to accept death when it's still too early for them to understand what death is. A chilling anime. Absolutely horrific. A brilliant peice of art.

i think i dont need to mention that the Manga obviously didn't have the Song (and therefore also not the Music Box that plays it) but the Title Elfenlied is based on an old German Song/poem called Elfenlied which however does appear near the end of the Manga btw Elfenlied is translatable int ''Elvesong''

you speek of Tragedy ... well you're not wrong but i think you're not prepared for the sheer exessiveness of said Tragedy IF and only *IF* you watch this you better be prepared , not only is this Anime quite Gory (excessively so for the time it released) but almost all characters have some serious Trauma and by serious i mean Serious enough to give some people Depression

You should have a listen to Diva's Song from Blood+. Another magnific opera in anime.
