Is Deadlock Really As Great As Everyone Says?
I need to come clean. I've been playing Deadlock for a while now, but only recently did it become a game I truly like. Here's why my opinion changed, and why I don't think Deadlock is anywhere close to being done.

    Eeee. Jungle items ? I played league in season when there was no such thing, and i LIKE that. It feels natural that you not gaining INFINITE amount of mana and hp regen just by hitting some random chicken. You actually loses your hp and mana, try to kite camps to lose less, you could actually kill gromp and blue at the same time by bringing them together back then ! Now it become so casual that i literally have no intent to ever play it, unless i want to have 30 minutes of chilling and farming jungle. That is also why i likes Dota. I really can play at slower pace most of the time, fast clearing jungle, playing with enemies into some kind of guessing game "where this MF sits", and just be more chill about being SUDDENLY ganked in my own nungles by enemy jungler, die 2 times, and being completely useless and no longer having any priority or power to match enemy, unless getting a lot of shotdowns. And you not getting those easily bcs their presence already means - your game on the way to be f**d up. And i not like new league season. It is shit with permafighting. I can just load my Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising and have good time with Sandy punching some faces. I not playing MOBA to feel like i playing some fighting game with infinitely lesser amount of moves on 99% of characters. Even if there is some characters i like such as Kayle, Cassiopeia, Ryze, pre rework Shivana when bruiser build was decent, and few more characters i wouldn't mind to play like Oriana , Jarvan IV, and Zeri. I not going to back to it anytime soon. I just cannot play in current high on cocaine state of game for more than a few matches a day. Also matchmaking sucks. 😂 My acc was deranked all the way to iron 4, and well, i actually not mind that. It is wery chill down there. But often my teammates do shit ( 0/10 botlane/toplane on 8th minute, YK), and well, i m the same, but it still feels bad to go into 5/24 gamestate on minute 10 and your team starting to spam FICKIBGKAK FORFEIT BUTTON. YOU COME HERE TO PLAY. DON'T SPAM FORFEIT WHEN YOU 3/8/3 AND I M 16/2/3! And often that shit happens with some like Oriana or Smolder. Champs that are literally do nothing before minute 10, bcs balancing team done them this way. Give glory to Oriana. She had negative, 47% WR all the way up to master when i last time looked at her WR. And even then her pickrate was ABYSSMAL at 0.3% or so. I tried her. And you know what. Nerf Diana. She has too much range for melee, too much burst with low commitment from W. And Ori literally wastes 30% + mana to actually push the wave FASTER than some assasin like Diana, while also dealing LESS poke damage to her. 😂 I cannot justify League with balance like that.

    Dota is dead because of valve it's not developing main developer is leaved from the game, it's playing like the same game as from 2022 patches only adds useless items and add more and more support items and that's all. Any old Dota player would confirm this, this game has no soul right now. I leaved this game, only watch competitive sometimes (all tournament is bullshit except ti and riad) I switched to league in 2021 btw main zed and draven

    I think in time you'll come to see just how many different mage types can be powerful late game. They are definitely not mostly just supports. Even a fully leveled and geared agility carry can be countered with the right spells and items. And even if they can't manfight a final form carry, many of them can do other things to pressure the map, delay high ground, buy time for your own carry to catch up etc.

    For the people talking about the pierces debuff immunity tooltip. That tooltip can be inconsistent (it might only block part of an abilities functionality but not all of it) as well as the different sources of debuff immunity being inconsistent (There was a point in time when the debuff immunity granted by clockwerk's 25 talent would block pure damage even if that source would normally deal damage through bkb though I haven't been able to test if this is still the case). Point is dota is inconsistent and sometimes it comes down to simply knowing strange interactions that someone can't really expect to know about before they experience them.

    When it comes to the pure damage/bkb piercing thing I just used the rule of thumb where, "if blocking a certain spell invalidates a specific hero's purpose or a huge cooldown PURE damage spell/ultimate, then it probably would go through bkb." Cause like, can you imagine if you can just walk off Bloodseeker's rupture when you have bkb on. That'd be silly. Which is also why I can accept how bkb can block Outworld Devourer's Arcane orb. It's pure damage, and it has no cooldown. As OD, you can choose to wait out bkb's duration or right-click someone else. You have options. Bkb blocking rupture would be insane or Black Hole which has almost a 3 minute cooldown. Timbersaw on the other hand have spammable spells that deal pure damage. It wouldn't hurt the hero as much to stifle that a bit, at least until bkb is gone.

    Fun Fact: Dota used to have lane shops in side lanes where you can buy cheaper items. At the time, teams only had 1 courier each, so that courier would be mostly used by the mid lane. Sideshops were removed when Valve decided to give everyone their courier. It feels like Valve actually tries to keep the MOBA side of the game as simple as they can, because nobody really wants to play MOBAs nowadays. But I also think this makes the game more snowbally... I can guess Valve wants shorter games than Dota, but making a comeback in this game feels weirder to achieve than Dota, even when it feels like gold lead swings are even bigger than Dota's. Ganking a farming hard carry is much harder to organize, since you don't have proactive vision like "wards" and "watchers" (from Dota). Urn probably does not work how Valve envisioned it would be used. Map feels somewhat empty if you can't travel quickly. More items are definitely needed. (What do you mean that I can't upgrade Counterspell into a Lotus Orb variant?) A lot of Deadlock players are not MOBA players, so they might not be aware that it is much better to push after a fight is won. That is certainly my experience in the lower ranks. Though, I don't know how much I can blame them, because it feels like somehow Valve made creeps much more punishing in Deadlock. So, you can't bring the number advantage anywhere if you missed one wave in the sidelanes, your tier 3 towers are going to be destroyed in no time. That probably adds to the snowbally feeling I have. I mean I know that some of these are skill issues, but still... I do think Valve will overcorrect the "map being too easy to navigate for skilled players" issue at some point. And their changes will probably make the game even harder for the lower-ranked players and lead to a vision mechanic like "watchers" to also be added to the game.

    The flex slot criticism just makes no sense. If a team is very behind and gets a miracle fight win they can take a walker with their man advantage and get a flex slot…? Also the item system has been completely reworked and polished to the point where it is basically the finished thing. The only things that remain to be done for the game to be ready for open beta are another map objective, jungle and mid boss reworks, and new models for walkers, lane guardians and some of the heroes. How many Deadlock games have you even played? I get the feeling it’s less than 50 and most of the criticisms in the video would be gone by just gaining bit more experience in the game, and getting out of low elo.

  • @oger3225

    The reason for high grounds in dota is to give the losing team a chance of comeback given they can coordinate defenses and match the winning team's farming pace. Buyback is a system that allows you to turn the tide of the battle through a respawn making it another comeback mechanic. Basically, dota wants you to have a chance of still winning the game even when your base is being sieged, as long as your whole team can coordinate, play the high ground advantage, and manage resources which can be annoying in pubs but amazing to see in the pro level. This game is entirely balanced around its esports scene.

    IMO Deadlock is not a good mix of genres. MOBA side is horribly bloated, too many items that don't really do anything interesting, colossal inventory that you are encouraged to fill with garbage for the sake of investment bonuses and so on. Hero shooter side suffers because you don't actually play a hero shooter, you play farming simulator, and it has too much movement tech, and characters don't feel super distinct. Gigantic did it better, even if it failed twice.

  • @enviralmental8103
    @enviralmental8103 5 days ago

    No offense but I think everyone doesn't want it to be MOBA heavy, there's a reason why League and DOTA2 are practically closed ecosystem, both games and their players seem to loathe the idea of new players. Let the game have it's own identity, new mobas fail because they try and take a piece of two titans that realistically can't be touched in the slightest Edit: Also it's practically confirmed by leakers that "Cursed Items" on a seperate shop will be added to the game that gives negative effects in exchange for new ones. Also there's no solid evidence but people think a new neutral enemy like midboss could be coming to the game at some point

    As someone with about 2k hours in Dota I find the idea baffling that Deadlock is more snowbally than Dota. Due to map traversal time being relatively slower in Dota, ward vision being a thing and something you lose when behind, faster movement being tied to towers alive, the comebacks in Dota generally came from defending high ground at the base. In Deadlock the comebacks generally from either defending base after patron phase 1 respawns, or from running a comeback urn. Latter being much simpler than remembering all the timings for tormentors, bounty runes, neutral item spawns and what have you that you need to claw your way back in Dota. In my experience games where you are behind up to 30k souls generally feel winnable since while you lose map control, there isn't a large discrepancy in map vision and movement speed even if you are behind. I started playing Deadlock after the map change, but I appreciate the fact that the roles aren't so set in stone in this game. Mostly due to the fact that playing position 5 in Dota and any other variant absolutely sucks ass. You have way more agency in Deadlock in a utility role compared to ward duty in Dota. That brings me to itemization. I both agree and disagree that it needs work. Agree in a sense that they could probably add a dozen or two more items and fine tune the balancing between them a bit. But disagree as a whole since Deadlock has way less "must buy" items compared to Dota and the like. You don't need to buy boots, carries don't need to buy bkb, supports don't need to buy wards etc. In a way there is more flexibility, although some items like Healbane and Toxic Bullets feel way too generally good at the moment. And individual hero ability scaling doesn't lend itself to greater build variety in some cases.

  • @ardidsonriente2223

    With respect to someone evidently way more versed about mobas than me, I hope they maintain the moba side as simple and limited as possible. There is a reason so many people who don't play mobas choose to play Deadlock. I prefer for them to keep it that way.

    • @Zictive
      @Zictive 5 days ago

      Well deadlock is much a moba as all the rest imo. Multiple lanes, items you need to farm for, various objectives in the map for you and the enemy team to fight over with, a massive pool of characters, tons of complex nuances and interactions between systems, games last usually around 30 minutes to an hour, etc. Heck id say deadlocks map is much more complex than the typical moba. Most other moba maps are a flat plane with little to no verticality. There are literally multiple underground segments in the map, and with good enough movement knowledge, you can literally just fly through the map. Pretty much the only difference is it's 3rd person focused gameplay, unlike the other mobas which are more akin to an RTS. EDIT: another point I'd like to add. Dota 2 is widely considered as a very complex game, even by moba standards. You can see this design philosophy in Deadlock as well. I'd say Deadlock can easily rival Dota's complexity the longer the games goes on. It's already much more complex that League in my opinion.
