What If There Was No Empire Strikes Back?
Просмотров 4563 месяца назад
Splinter Of The Mind's Eye is one of the weirdest Star Wars books I've ever read. It was written in 1978, and sits in a distinctly different timeline than Empire Strikes Back, which would replace it as the official Star Wars sequel once the film became a financial success.

How Valheim Recaptures The Magic Of Survival Games
Просмотров 13 тыс.4 месяца назад
Survival games have become one of the most popular genres, but it's a genre where many games share the same faults. Valheim seems to be ducking that trend, providing a unique experience that cleverly avoids the pitfalls of the genre while leaning into what makes survival games so great.
Why The Sequel Duels Make Sense
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 месяца назад
Though there are certainly many legitimate criticisms against the Star Wars sequels, the comparative inelegance of the lightsaber duels actually helps establish that the potential these characters have is much more raw and under developed than the well trained characters we see in earlier eras of Star Wars.

I remember playing 25 years ago MW2 GBL, then totally losing track of it until just like a month ago when MW5 Clans popped up in Game Pass... and having an absolute blast. I was too broke back then to buy the Vgames or get a decent PC, and now not only I get to play the series I liked so much, I actually got to play it co-op with my son lol thx for an awesome vid!!
So... we're forgetting that one episode where the Neimoidian fired a weapon onto a defensless village just to see if it worked? Good to know.
Guess the video didn't do that well as there's no Valheim video in 4 months
Battletech (2018) did more to revive the franchise than MWO. MWO had a lot of potential, but the developers ultimately never pushed the game or franchise forward, with its poor map and game designs. The Invasion and Solaris modes all failed spectacularly.
If only companies were able to let go of the idea to make the most profit possible… A Star Wars game will sell well if it is competently made. Thus I think it guarantees a return on the investment. You probably won’t be able to make 2 more games from the profits of 1, but you can continue making memorable experiences, satisfying customers, building a good reputation for yourself, and having a legacy worth remembering. If I had a game development studio, I would create many many Star Wars games.
it lacks a lot of things of the real genre of survival games , i see valheim ( with 700hs ) as one light survival game , more a builder game ( with very bad optimization ) + hack n slash with extra steps
Catalyst did a great job helping to bring back BT. But now they’re running things into the ground. We need to get the franchise out of their hands. However do to some of your verbiage (calling CGL “stewards” of battletech and “now is the best time to be a battletech fan”) lead me to believe you’re firmly in their pocket.
We definitely need more content about the separatists and who they were beyond what figures like Dooku or Grievous would lead one to believe. I liked that one episode of the Bad Batch on Desix. We could definitely use an in-depth story of someone like Tawni Ames set during the clone wars or the lead-up to it.
I play Siege Rhino already so guess i will just subscribe.
I really wish for a star wars serie that would be called "squadrons", in wich we would follow during 4-ish episodes a squadron from a faction during a mission, then change faction.
So happy to see the series is coming back.
The clans are like that cos their homeworlds were really harsh & they needed to not let inevitable internal conflicts cause serious losses to their smaller population, so they developed this highly ritualised system of fighting. They did that for 300 years & by the time theyd got back they weren't ready for real war
Is Disney brave and resourced with the talent to explore Separatists stories?
If you don’t like this direction then stop buying.
I'd like to take a moment to remind you that Flesh and Blood exists, and is quite damn good card game.
Why in the name of all that is good and Holy would the return to the use of MSRP be exciting to anyone!!?!?!?
that's weird... says this was posted in 2024... several years after the damage was already fully done...
Na see what you do is just build you a couple mtg decks to play. Did a hobbit deck, a Rohan/gondor deck, and Saruman deck. That’s all mtg cards.
After Kaldheim, I wonder; do they still actually write Stories for their IP besides of those FanFic level snippets on their Homepage? I mean, Kaldheim was already such a ... Kaya & Niko are so boring and simple boringly written. And the Elve Dude is just a Meme e.g.
Having sold my entire MTG collection since Return to Ravnica to play Flesh and Blood, I feel like the glory days are back. But I worry that some day fab will follow this same path... Hero-centric tcg's are an easy fit for collabs. Street fighter? Witcher? All are slot ins, the way the game works.
Your title is a lie. Universes Beyond changed Magic already a fair bit.
As someone who has learned the rules of magic less than 48 hours ago after having the Final Fantasy and LOTR Universes beyond sets catch my eye, it never crossed my mind that crossover decks would be fully tournament legal. I don't really want to play a Balrog against Optimus Prime, Venom, or Rose Tyler! I'd like to play themed decks against eachother to learn how to play Magic, then buy an actual magic deck? I dislike Fortnite for exactly this stuff. Respect your own IP, dont sell out to Marvel for a quick buck.
great content man. Everything from family guy to Calvin and Hobbes on this channel. keep it up
It makes me sad...the greed here will drive players away.
i think it slowly push old player away and maybe bring few new player.... its lost
Where we droppin summoners?
Main issue with the separatists is the trade federation, the accounting of the interests of the trade federation, specifically the idea that corporate entities ought to be in the galactic senate is ridiculous; imagine if Apple and Nvidia decided to declare independence with California in order to try to get these companies seats in congress and electoral votes for the presidency, it would be ridiculous and immoral.
The BattleTech intro rulebook is free to download, and the new plastic miniatures are about $5 each. And if you want a simplified version of the game to play, it is called Alpha Strike. It is actually the way I play now. The stats for a mech all fit on a single playing card, which also come included with all of those plastic minis I mentioned.
I really like the separatists, so I would like to see more of the moral ones myself.
Agreed.
It really only did that with their military officials and people like King Rash. Senators and representatives like Bonteri where actually portrayed as noble.
True, but only one episode was really dedicated to the political side of the CIS.
I will never falter on this: star wars is told from the biased perspective of the jedi, sith and jedi are not black and white and dooku in particular is a good man who realised the flaws in the jedi and the republic but was manipulated by the actual evil palpetine until he was trown away
I've met a lot of players that ditched MtG in favor of Star Wars Unlimited. I think they might become the biggest MtG competitor, because even tho YuGiOh and Pokemon are card games they feel completely different than MtG. And MtG has been desperate to drive in the YuGiOh crowd, which is itself becoming very limited, with all the anime art cards. Duskmourn and Foundations directly copy the style of Yugioh art, its ridiculous
I'm currently playing both, but foundations will definitely be my last magic set, at least for constructive play. I might still draft a set in the future if it looks like mtg again
How much did you get paid for that claim? I literally know nobody who actually plays Star Wars Unlimited. Even hardcore SW Fans just collect it here and there. On the other hand, my local Store didn't filled the PreRelease Event for Foundation because so many people were f*cked off from the UB Announcment & the Secret Lair disaster. Sells go down. People start to care less. Soon you'll have no Magic IP anymore because they drive the rest into the ground too. And in two years they'll turn around, wanna bet?

One thing worth mentioning that notably speeds up and simplifies a good portion of the classic version of Battletech is Fletchs Sheets. It allows you to put your lance together from a VERY healthy list of mechs (which it has the necessary sheets for) and has an automation mode that handles the dice rolls, attacking, distribution of damage, heat, pilot skill checks, etc. You can also connect to someone else with their lance so that your attacks are applied to their mechs and vice versa. It's worth a look. Really speeds up the classic game considerably without losing the nuances that aren't present in Alpha Strike.
Compared to the Sith empire of Revans time, the separatists were EXTREMELY peaceful, they had the ability to completely take control of the entire outer rim, and STILL have plenty of extra forces. They only lost because Geonosis and other big factories were destroyed early in the war. But even then, if padme hadn’t discovered their secret factory of cortosis droids and gotten anakin and thrawn to destroy it, they would’ve demolished the Jedi order, who hadn’t fought against cortosis wielding enemies for almost 4000 years.
Memory from 30 years ago playing a league at a local game store. 2 Lance v 2 Lance iirc, I am in an Archer. One of my opponents is in an Atlas. Sets himself up on a cliff overlooking a lake on the center of the battlefield. First round i fire off my LRMs at the atlas. Land a good chunk of LRMs, two batches of 5 hitting the cockpit and breaching through... No crit though and pilot stays awake. But then he fails his damage pilot roll, falls forward off a cliff and dies in the water as it floods the breached cockpit. The greatest salvo I ever fired.
I know I’m sitting alone on this but I hate the “personality” given to the droids in TCW. I hate the stupid high-pitched voice they gave them, I hate the slap stick, I hate their illogical incompetence. They’re cold killer war robots, why do they act like goons. It shouldn’t matter it’s “made for children”, it just dumbs down the stakes and infantilizes the story. The 2-D CW show didn’t do that. It’s also yet another TCW-only decision that’s inconsistent with the movies.
I'd say that idea came before the 3D CW series. They have that same voice in Revenge of the Sith.
@ If they actually have the same voice then I 100% couldn’t tell. TCW absolutely flanderized the droids, way too silly and idiotic. They really weren’t that goofy in the film, just a couple of moments. They weren’t used for constant slap stick.
@@MT-iw6sl Well wouldn’t blame you since their only dialogue in the whole movie is like three brief exclamations.
Completly agree, had this exact same complaint for a while
7:14 absolutely agree we need a grievous origin, and perhaps an animated adaptation of the Battle of Jabiim eary in the clone wars. Bringing back both those stories would excite people, and add some really cool stuff to current canon. Neither story deserves to be forgotten or ignored by current writers, especially since they don't contradict any new material
No Poggle however
The Clone Wars regularly shows the flawed side of the Republic, yet almost never shows the good/justified side of the Separatists
Precisely. It makes it a larking issue
Sometimes I imagine how good Star Wars would have been if someone like Grrm got a shot at it. How deep those characters would be.
The franchise keeps getting up hit after hit just like a true mechwarrior o7
Glad you mentioned not only the ebb and flow of the video games but also the tabletop miniatures game. But one, maybe the main reason, Battletech kept its legs is the wargamers. Battletech has been in many many wargaming conventions year after year after year, and not just the more scifi venues but Historical gaming, RPG gaming etc. The community is strong anthough maybe not always visible they have always been there playing since 1984.
You understood nothing.
How so
Firstly, absolutely brilliant video and seriously underrated channel, genuinely one of the few videos recently that made me think more in depth about Star Wars and because of that I wanted to share something it makes me think of Maul is your Lucifer/Satan-like figure, he feel from grace and wound up in a desolate waste land after being cast down a not so fiery pit, he then becomes fueled by a vengeance for those whom he hates, whilst he never perverted life to mock the Jesus/God parallel (we'll get to him soon) he did what he could do, he took life, he slew many to tempt Kenobi, to mock and toy with him, he also trained Savage as a Sith which I interpret as the second half of the Satan warping life to make demons, so then we have him get closer to achieving his revenge but he like Satan was running around the hamster wheel, never getting further and only getting more angry and at some points he recognises this in a way, at some points he has kind moments but ultimately he cannot escape his flaws, he also like Satan then tempts someone, Ezra, says he can give him something that the Jedi can't, he fails eventually and is killed by Kenobi, unlike Satan he is released from the cycle and that's where our Jesus parallel character is: Kenobi, yes space Jesus himself, see he loses so much to Maul, he has every right to hate him, every right to wish him ill will but he can see the pitiful existence Maul lives, he can see the pain Maul feels and he feels sorry for him and in the end he ultimately forgives him and comforts him, he shows him the love he likely doesn't remember feeling, and to further expand on our parallels Savage and Talzin are our Creature and Viktor Frankenstein, though more loosely, Talzin makes/enhances this big, strong and muscular beast of Zabrak and Savage like the Monster is feared and hated (not to say he wasn't cruel himself) and never really was given the opportunity to choose for himself, he was thrust into terrible conditions and has become resentful of his Masters, Why'd I make these bad comparisons? Because I think it's interesting how Maul and Obi-Wan parallel the Bible and Talzin and Maul parallel Frankenstein which in itself parallels the Bible, also about the two brothers I think it's interesting how Maul has comfort when he passed and Savage feels failure when he does, they're so similar but so different
Honestly glad to see someone who doesn't detest the shows mere existence, if it's bad so what? Because Star Wars is dead, the Empire Strikes back killed it! Star Wars is dead, Return of the Jedi killed it! Star Wars is dead! Jar Jar killed it! Star Wars is dead! The prequels killed it! STAR WARS IS DEAD AND THE LAST JEDI KILLED IT!!! STAR WARS IS DEAD AND THE SEQUELS KILLED IT!!!! If Star Wars was really dead then why does it keep coming back? Could it be that certain vocal minorities in the fandom hate everything for views? Because bad news always does sell better, also it's sad how any constructive criticism is going to be pushed aside as the voices scream louder and louder
Shed a tear by the end of this video. Just love CnH so much. Reading the books with my mom as a kid is some of my best memories. Thanks for this video
Hey what do you think about the recent news with wizards pushing standard more and removing pioneer from the next rcq season? I hope pioneer continues to be a strong format outside of the pro tour!
The Separatist movement is flawed in its very foundation- they want to secede from the Republic because of its corruption, but entities like the Trade Confederation joining the Separatists early on tells us that the new Confederacy would likely be no less corrupt than the republic it withdrew from. At the end of the day it'd be one corporate bureacracy versus another. If they really wanted to present a legitimate independence movement, they should have maybe considered elements of class consciousness but that was never the point. They were written to be an easily manipulated "bad guy" faction and to show the dangers of rebelling for the sake of rebelling- as their rebellion ultimately cost the galaxy what little freedom it had.
Thing is while that is true, that issue is applied to both sides and highlights that both were extremely flawed and bad in a sense. He is just highlighting the fact that it’s a bit off when only one side is portrayed as even somewhat heroic and valid while the other is presenting as cartoonishly evil seemingly just for the sake of it.
Disney just kinda let JJ create a deadend that they’re backfilling into right now at the expense of stories like Bloodlines that they published while the first couple of sequel movies were getting made, but that novel did a good job of diving into the politics of the New Republic (before, once again, running into a deadend JJ Abrams decided to create for literally no reason). Claudia Gray really fleshed the factions, ideologies, and motivations of the characters for that brief window of time. Something like that would be really cool to see in the CIS.
