Portal 2 Hammer | How to make a Core
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.28 дней назад
In this video, I go over how to make a core, make it talk, move, detach from the rail, and several other things. Feel free to leave suggestions for more topics to make a tutorial on in the comments (although larger topics such as aesthetics will take much longer). This video does NOT explain how to make custom cores, e.g. Virgil from Portal Stories Mel. Creating custom cores is a completely dif...

Please, could you make a lesson about creating vacuum tubes?
Funnily enough I'm actually already working on a video about that, should be out soon
Great video, but PlayAttach and PlayDetach inputs aren't working. Wiki say's you're suppoused to use choreography to control that.
No, they work, just not as well when combined with idle sequences. If you want those inputs to work perfectly, instead of setting the idle sequence to a plug variant in the attach logic relay, use the input "ClearIdleSequence" instead. And after the core has been detached you can reapply the idle sequence. Hope this helps
You rock bro! can't wait to see what's next for this project! BTW, do you use H++ for Portal 2 yet? It just came out, and saves me sooo much time when testing lighting in editor!
I didn't actually know it had came out for portal 2, will have to check it out!
If you're a fan of Subnautica and Mods (which it looks like you are based on the vid and music), I'd like to tempt you to check out the Prototype mod for Subnautica which is a project of mine just announced a couple weeks ago :D
uberledgendary fyp pull!!! new subscriber, I really love this style of content :D
Looks great... Sure will play it
I LOVE Portal AND Subnautica! I'm glad you included Both music from Both Games!!!!!! Great video btw! (Can't wait for part 3)
I love the ice buckling the wall. Great use of Skyrim for inspiration! Can you make any ice/snow particles rain down as a result of the frozen panels retracting?
Good idea! I’ll look into it when I return to this map
I love watching hammer map making while waiting for hammer to finish compiling a map lol. I enjoyed playing through Portal Plus, Centripetal, and Seasonal Science. And I can't wait to try out Frostbite when it releases!
the room change sequence looks so cool!
You should make a Full Game
Awesome update from a super chill guy 🧊🧊 On a more serious note, your mapping skills and process are quite inspiring and super entertaining! Can't wait for more!
these videos are genuinely fun to watch, even though i don't map
This is a really cool video ❄️🧊
👀🔥 Lookin’ freezing!!❄️❄️
Noice bro! awesome stuff! You've inspired me so much to keep working on my portal mod!
YEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
i still dont know how to make an overgrown style pedestal button edit (like a minute later): yeah no i figured it out myself
FINALLY, I've been looking on how to add a core and mess with his settings a year ago and then I got recommended this legendary video, thank you so much.
how do you add a custom eye?
Custom cores are very advanced. You can't do that purely with hammer, instead you'd need to make a custom texture and model for a new core. Doing it to the same quality as mods like Mel or Revolution requires strong knowledge in designing textures. Designing textures isn't my area of expertise, I know a bit but I wouldn't be able to make a tutorial as in-depth as this one.
THANKS!
RUclips wouldn't stop recommending me this video for over a week, so clearly this has got to be a good video. And I certainly wasn't disappointed! You got straight to the point on pretty much everything & it was super easy to follow on every step! Well done, very impressive! I'll certainly share this video! Regarding the offset issue with the path_track, I found out that when you divide the *_current_* speed of the tracktrain by 20, that's the exact offset you experience whenever it approaches any path_tracks. Valve applied this solution in mp_coop_credits for example in case you want a reference to check it out for yourself.
Yeah youtube seems to pushing this video a lot more than usual for some reason. Glad you liked it tho and thanks for letting me know about that path track quirk, whenever I'm doing that again I'll definitely look into that!
I can help come up with ideas for more interesting mod mechanics that will interest people (I won't come up with something impossible or complicated)
I appreciate your interest in the project. However, I will be working alone on this project as it is fairly small and quite personal. Sorry. You can save your ideas if you ever want to make your own mod!
Been looking for a tutorial on this for a while now. Thanks, pal.
never seen someone explaining how to do it
The more I watch the video the more I notice this guy sounds like Wheatley.
now i HAVE to download hammer.
12:10 why did wheatley like the pole so much🤨
Now this is the Hammer nerd stuff I live for. Awesome tutorial!
great video
i dont even map for portal 2 and dont plan on ever doing so but i watched this whole video lol, really reminds me of early 3kliksphilip tutorials
Hey! This sounds amazing, I would love to work with you with some voice lines. I am not forty either, but I like doing voice acting, and I'd say I have a pretty deep voice lol. Lemmie know if you're interested! I wouldn't want to charge you for it btw. I'd do it for free. :)
If you'd like, you can give me some lines to do and I'll try my best to do them, and then I'll send them over to you to see if you like it or not :p
Hi! Thanks for the offer. I would be very willing to hear what you can do, however, there is still a big chunk of time between now and when I'd be ready to record all the voice lines. So I'm not looking to get anyone just yet. But if you're still interested in a few months, I'd definitely want to know what you can deliver!
Ngl you kind of look like if Mordecai was a person
You know who else looks like if Mordecai was a person??

"Some people love my stuff, and some people have bad taste."
I like the subnautica ost in the video
BASED. I always looked at Portal 2 decompiled maps to get shit like this working. I never got interested enough / far enough in the maps where i used Personality Core logic like this so i never rlly got around to getting a grip and fully understanding to how valve did it. I definitely know I will come back to doing it one day so knowing this is always here to help is extremely good to know. Thanks for your hard work ❤
You are exactly 2.5 days late. I experimented and made myself a core without a tutorial. RHIS WOULDVE BEEN SP HELPFUL AAAAAH
Is it just me or this guy sounds a little bit like Wheatley?
You think that's crazy wait till you hear about the uk
Love the video! But instead of showing the time stamps in the video, you could make time stamps on yt! Would improve overview! <3
I actually already did both, you can see them in the description!
yeah but i think there is a way to make timestamps in the timeline of the video itself. found the solution, you have to add 0:00 to the timestamps for it to work.
@@falconinvoid5439 Ah, wondered why it hadn't done that. Updated it now 👍
can you do one on a custom personality core? but thanks so much for this, I’ve been struggling to find something on this for AGES
Custom cores are very advanced. Doing it to same quality as mods do would require strong knowledge in designing textures. My knowledge on the topic is quite limited. I may make a video on it some point in the future, but unfortunately I wouldn't be able to make it as in depth as videos like this one.
Nice tutorial, but i would like to have translation from british to english lmao
skill issue
useful stuff, good job!
Awesome Video as Always
Sorry if I sound a bit odd during this, I was fairly sick during one of the recording sessions. All good now though, hope to make more videos very soon.
OMG TYTYTYTYTYTYTY I needed this for one of my maps!!! [currently all I know is spawn a npc_personality_core, colour it, boom. Edit : I didn't need to change my core's name to any of the listed names, I'm pretty sure it works perfectly fine without these names. I've even managed to give it space core's eye.
Happy to help. Regarding the naming, you must have misunderstood. Yes, you are able to change the skin without changing the name. But dialogue (which I show how to correctly set up later in the video) WILL NOT work if you don't use the correct names.
Reminds me of the office prank
Yep! the halloween edition of those was the main inspiration for this map
if you need a composer you can contact me :)
Thanks for the offer, but I currently plan to just use the base game's ost, but if I change my mind I'll let you know!
Imagine turrets and cores stuck in ice glaciers lol
ive never played a portal mod i really badly wanna play this
That’s a really cool intro! How’d you do it?
Thanks! This was all made using portal 2 authoring tools. This website can explain more if you're interested: developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Portal_2_Level_Design
@@scesie Thanks for the response! I know the basics of hammer, and am currently working on a Portal (1) mod that I will name Portal: Cascade. I was moreso wondering about the text, as in all the tutorials I’ve seen, I haven’t seen any about adding text.
@@dk-865 Ah, the text is just a brush with a custom texture I made. And I simply enable/disable the brush when needed.
@@scesie That’s smart! Thanks!
