With the engine running if you take one plug wire at a time and pull it off if that's cylinder is not firing there would be no change in the engine if it is firing and you pull it off the engine Will miss fire you don't have to buy special equipment to test to see if it's firing or not

They told me that I should avoid running the engine in idle, even when I flush it with the ears, because the spark plugs will become fouled with oil and the engine will start having issues with idling until I change them. What is your opinion? Is this happening because it works with 4 cylinders?

My motor started trimming up on its own today. I took the cowling off and jiggled the wires around the switch on the motor and it hasn’t done it again. Any idea what I should do next?

Actually you are correct. Those are screws. Hex head capscrews to be exact.

Hi great vid and thanks for showing how to test the coils. In my manual for my OX66 1999 250, it also says to test the wire harness, CDI output peak voltage, charge coil peak voltage and pulser coil output peak voltage. My issue is low to no ignition spark. Is a multimeter good to test the other things. Though the manual is great, these things are a bit confusing. I don't want to order new coils and realize it could be the pulser coil as well.

Do you have any fuel consumption numbers at various rpm settings with this boat motor combination. Do the yamaha gauges show the fuel use per hour and if so have you checked if they are accurate. Any idea of oil use compared to the amount of fuel used. Do you still have this motor and are you happy with it. Are you a marine mechanic or a knowledgable amateur. I am thinking about buying this motor in a 2005 model. Thanks Peter.

I’ve just had the same issue but I replaced the trim relay and the motor will still trim up but not down. I touched the green to the red and it trims down just fine.

What's the power consumption

So that's wrong information you're putting out on the thermostats! As you stated the thermostats might be closed, however Yamaha thought of that and added bypasses so that when flushing from the upper hose port, the water is still fully flushing the powerhead. The missing link is how well is the lower unit getting flushed!?!

Excellent vid. You wouldn't happen to have a vid changing out the hi pressure pump in the vst and servicing it in general? My 04 VMAX won't go over 45-4700rpms. A diagnostic confirmed low fuel pressure.

I have a question I have a 150 hpdi I can get about 2500 rpm’s then it’s basically just bogs and stalls out and dies or if I let off it continues to run it did have a shutter in it like it had a miss I did not know 2 and 3 did not run in idle so that answered my question why it would run so well at that time 2 and 3 were wet and had carbon build up they have new spark plugs in them I’m gonna check coils next but the 2 and 3 plugs have gas on them which means it’s not burning off all the gas or is to rich. What are your thoughts?
