I have heard several years ago that the missing episodes can sometimes be found with actors who performed in the serial. They had been known to offer copies to the actors or guest stars for their time in the show. Not sure if the offered complete story or the parts where they appeared in, but that could be a good place to start. I am sure that if the actors passed, the families would have them or could have like you said tossed them not realizing what they had, or the tape disintegrated.

Sorry for being grammar police but you can't have something 'officially' unannounced. The internet, social media has given us 24/7 news hence we always are worrying over everything from entertainment to politics. We were better off when we were in the dark and except for the 1989 cancellation we had pretty much up that point always been able to just assume the DW was continuing season after season. We never even really thought about it ending. Everything today is also about the dollar which is so sad but true. Profits from shows and merch. drives the industry.

I've been watching Doctor Who since the revival, and have since gone back and watched it right from the beginning in the 1960's. I watched the current reiteration, and truly was not happy with it. I am now in the process of re-watching the revival series once again and am currently on Matt Smith. RTD Doctor Who from Eccleston era onward and RTD Doctor Who from Gatwa are not even close in quality. If we didn't know better, I would not have believed the current era was by RTD. I got a Disney subscription so I could watch Doctor Who, but after watching this past season, I will not be renewing and will not be watching anymore Doctor Who until they do some major changes. I also won't be watching the spin off. I watched the Jodie episode around that idea and it was bad, and to take the worst watched episode from the Jodie era and make a show around it, I don't know what they were thinking. Too bad really, as I really like Russel Tovey. I thought his Alonso character in the Titanic episode, and Captain Jack, made a good couple.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dr Who was cancelled after season 2. Ratings are at there lowest in the shows history. (Ik ppl are gonna say ratings don't matter but they do), The writing has be abysmal since 2017 and it's done too much pandering. If Dr Who wants to survive, the Disney deal needs to be stopped bc everything Disney touches, dies, we need a new writer that doesn't sacrifice good writing and good stories for political pandering and we need effort put into the series as it's very obvious that no effort whatsoever has been put in since Capaldi left. WE NEED DISNEY TO PULL OUT for Dr Who to survive.

The only way to save the series is make the Toy Master the last doctor who. The explains away everything, and keeps Doctor who proper. 1. No such thing as Bigeration. 2. Handball was never the final game. 3. The real doctor david tenant. Worked it out. These deletes the last doctor and saves the franchise.

Honestly I lost interest when Matt Smith left. I was never a fan of the 12th doctor, and have even less interest in the 13th and 15th.

I think it will end eventually as with each new Doctor the series gets fewer episodes

Show will be cancelled. They filmed 2 ncuti gatwa seasons back to back. Those are locked and will be realised. Disney won't renew their contract for new seasons. At most a final special will be commissioned. And at the least...the Christmas Special will be retroactively made the finale of the series.

Its ultimately meant to be afamily show its simple , families watch tv together , individuals watch youtube. Family fathers and mothers who hold the remote do not want the notion of popularising gender reassignment or constant lgbt+ double entendre shown to their 8 year olds . Disney has become a distorted idea factory. They throw all these shite ideas into a mixing pot of diversity and just come up with nonsense. Maybe they’ll hold back a part of season 2 and then get the viewing figures on that portion, then can decide on season 3 or a special, then release the next portion of season 2 while that either is or isn’t being made. Then they could keep to the yearly content

The Acolyte cost WAY too much to make. They were spending like 20 Million an episode. The ONLY way that show could've survived was to have done phenomenal numbers. Doctor WHO is FAR cheaper and it's doing comparatively well with its cost to success ratio.

I just love to see woke shows get cancelled. Can't wait for them to pull the plug on Queer as Folk Doctor Who.

RTD's return was the last chance for Doctor Who and unfortunately rather than concentrate on producing a show that would have a wider enough appeal to improve the ratings he chose to alienate much of the audience even more by going over the top with queer content. I watched it but I know a lot of people who gave up because of this and my brothers wife stopped their young children from watching because she sees it as harmful. I suspect Disney will pull out of the deal to co fund it. The BBC might give it another season after that but the writing is on the wall now, it will be cancelled or go into an extended hiatus within the next few years.

Doctor Who was never 'cancelled' as such back in the 80s. It just ran a series in 1989 and then just wasn't renewed until 2005. ie. it was just a case of "We're not going to commission a series _this_ summer…" … and again, and again… until everyone eventually forgot about it. Like that series on Netflix you watched a few episodes of and then had a break that just went on so long you can't remember what the series was about or what had happened, and so just started a different series instead.

I admit i was disappointed by the latest series and I think Disney might pull out. As you mention Russell T Davies said that if they had to make Doctor Who without Disney's money they'd rally around and do it on a BBC budget and make claustrophobic ghost stories. Which he admits some people would like. I certainly would. I think thats the direction the series should go atmospheric, suspensful stories with scary moments. Doctor Who was always seen as a scary show in the classic era and some of the best stories in the new series were the scarier ones.
