      Hopefully that comes out soon. I’ve always resonated with death (being a Scorpio the sign of death and rebirth), have experienced death as early as 1 years of age and also have had my own NDE (I shouldn’t be alive today) I understand that energy cannot he created or destroyed(thermodynamics). What resonated with me the most was the parts of seeing things as a child sometimes just keeping the childlike innocence not always putting a label on things, the aspects of duality, the soul contract although you didn’t say that you briefly touched on that because everyone is here by choice not by accident or chance. And the expansion aspect of the avatar we play in how we all just play a role. As always keep up the good work Mrs. Nina :)

    Nina I have now begun to tell when im out of freeze and it feels like the daylights are on and my personality shines, its usually short though. is there a way to be out of it all the time

      I'm so happy to hear this! We can do physical resourcing techniques (see my video with that name) to maintain good resiliency, but it's still ok if we go into freeze sometimes. It's being afraid of freeze and not doing self care that keep us stuck there. We want to be able to go in and out if it consciously to heal trauma and without fear of it because this mechanism helps us survive difficult challenges when needed. We don't want to fight our bodies, but simply learn how to relax them, trust and let them self-regulate without the ego's interference 🙏🏼😊

    Dear Nina, what do I need to study if I would like to become an SE therapist? Do I have to study psychology first? I am a language teacher but I feel I could serve my community/society this way too. Not right now because I'm still in my own process but I feel a strong calling to do similar emotional work.

    You discussed being trapped by identifying with “something that happened to me or that someone did to me” but what if you are trapped by something that YOU did- the actions I chose and I did that I regret. How can you NOT identify with your own actions, mistakes, bad decisions?

      Great question! I may need to make a video to answer this one thoroughly, because it's more than I can put in a RUclips comment. First of all, the you that did that is the ego program, not the real You (the Awareness and Presence who is watching). Please see my video on How to Overcome Regret to see that the ego is arbitrary. We need to keep coming back to identifying with the true Self over the ego program, but even if you think it is still you, you change and are new and fresh in each moment. The cells in your body are all different than 7 years ago, the emotions and thoughts are always coming and going...so who is the you that retains identify? It must be changeless and have duration to have identity. Otherwise it's just a process, like the ego program. So who are You? See my videos on Self-Realization. Now, this is not to say we should not take responsibility for our actions, lack integrity or continue doing something hurtful. It just means that we are allowed to heal, forgive ourselves for our ignorance at the time (the cause of suffering) in not knowing who we really are in order for the actions to come from there. In doing so, our actions come from a more pure place and it corrects the underlying issue of actions we regret coming from ego. I hope this helps you. Excellent question 🙏🏼

    I really just hate the inflation of the word ‘trauma’ to refer to even the slightest mental or emotional reaction. When I was young, the medical profession had a definition of trauma. It was any injury, or health event that was a proximate threat to survival, or resulted in bodily maiming. A ‘trauma center’ was where they life-flighted you to when they thought you wouldn’t survive an ambulance ride. Today, we talk about getting our feeling hurt as if it were trauma. And as a result, we tend to inflate the most minor of annoyances or inability to have what we want when we want it into some kind of ‘injury’ from which we need to ‘heal’. What we really need is a solid dose of stoic philosophy and to get over ourselves and our minor frustrations over the fact that other people don’t do what we want them to do. The ‘words have the power to harm’ theory of interaction has made for a generation of people who FEEL harmed by mere words, rather than the emotionally more resilient people raised under the “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never harm me” theory of personal interaction. Today, we have teens killing themselves over tweets. Told words had the power to harm did NOT make teens MORE empathetic, they simply immediately chose to USE words to harm as much as they could. Knowing their targets had bought into that mentality. We have become a world of narcissists who think only about ourselves and our feelings and demanding validation from every one else. Fragile, easily bruised and full of righteous rage over other people not doing exactly what we demand they do, not thinking exactly how we do, not saying what we want to hear, or saying what we can not bear to hear for we have been told we have a Right to feel Traumatized by the fact the we are NOT, in point of fact, the center of everyone else’s world. Read Aurelius. Study Taoism. The more you think about yourself, the more miserable you will be. When you are focused on others, and the world outside of yourself, you realize you are always happy.

      Thanks for sharing. That's why only 1/2 this channel is about trauma. The other 1/2 is about to non-duality, which helps expand the perspective beyond our ego and come out of trauma ego identification. We don't want to bypass in either direction and sweep emotions under the rug, but we don't want to identify with them either. It's just charge. Suppressing it causes emotional blocks in the body and intellectual/spiritual bypass. We can acknowledge it and allow it to pass through our bodies without creating a story about ourselves. You might like the videos on this channel that discuss this like "We are not our traumas" or the more recent "Identification with thoughts, traumas and emotions perpetuates suffering." I love Taoism...one of my absolute favorites.

    I don't understand why you put depression in the ventral vagal category, when it is a dorsal vagal shutdown? Seems incorrect in the graphic

      Depression is in the dorsal vagal category at the top, not in ventral vagal at the bottom of the polyvagal infographic.

      Oh, you mean in the 1st infographic of the ANS. That is reflecting that people can in fact get stuck in parasympathetic and it's not the parasympathetic freeze response up top. It's depression at a different level from not enough energy in the system vs too much energy in dorsal vagal. There is another infographic that shows this and it was mentioned in my SE program as well. I'll look for that other infographic and see if I can link it here.

      In this case, I would ground in the body as much as possible and place attention on sensory perceptions like the feel of touching the steering wheel, feel the body sensations of sitting in the chair, notice the colors and objects you see and listen to the sounds on the drive rather than putting attention on thoughts.

    I have been not functional for 19 years. Too much trauma. I was R*ped by a girlfriend under threat of arrest imprisonment. I had just spent 3 days in jail after her allogations. I have lost millions, my home. I can’t present myself very well. I cry a lot. I haven’t been normal in decades.

      @@Nina.Goradia - Yes, a psychologist with a phd and specializing in war trauma. We went as far as we could together. Even he thinks I went through a lot. He is recommending Ketamine…. Some days are ok now some are not. I am getting better. My family tried to get as much cash as they could when the walls fell; didn’t care about me- in fact, took pleasure in my demise. I have been on my own, born again almost.

    Where do you put a panic attack on the fight flight freeze scale... yesterday i was insanely dysregulated and verbally fighting but my arms and legs where numb

      It's usually a fight or flight activity and movement of energy, but it could also hover back and forth on the line between freeze and fight or flight with conscious or unconscious intentions to resist or suppress it, which could explain the numbness (if you meant immobility by that). I also checked with colleagues for different ways to explain it. One replied "Yes, Nina, I agree with your assessment and can back that up with a detailed Q&A moment on the topic with Raja Selvam. It's a chicken-egg thing and can get started from either direction, but essentially it's sympathetic activation triggering a dorsal shutdown response which then creates hypoxic stress, sending signal to the brain to fight against that but the sympathetic energy attempt is further suppressed by dorsal..." And another replied "Yes, I was going to say both SNS/DV (foot on accelerator and brake)."

    Hey Nina I have another question that I have been wondering about for some time :-) hope you have time So my system went into freeze because of a bad boss and some prior violence that happened, so... When I was at a new job I had to call in sick and again the day after... On the second day all the stress acumulated and I thought I was going to DIE and I simply could not do it and simply stayed away and quit my job the next day So my question is: If I had been with that sensation and completed the "task" could I have discharged ALL that energy that arose... I am very curious... Thanx

    I appreciate your observation that being afraid of going into freeze creates even more distress…the very thing that your body is trying to cope with by going into freeze in the first place! I am quite sure that I have spent a LOT of time stuck in this pattern, both as a child when I was shamed and punished for behaviors caused by freeze response.

    Nina, I can’t thank you enough for this meditation and your work in general. I’ve been in serious bracing and anxiety for 6 weeks. The pain in my body has been almost unbearable. With the help of a wonderful psychologist I’ve been able to find my way back to you. It’s like having a huge light shining on me as I do this meditation. And I’m reminded of the amazing resources I forgot I even had from videos prior. I have a long way to go still but I got results today that are leading me in the right direction. Homeward to myself.     Is it possibly to be blocked from experiencing this? What roll does mental health, trauma, stressful situations, etc. play in our ability to connect with this experience and grow? I carry so much hurt and stress, my life is stuck in a loop. I understand what you are saying here, but feel like I missed when it was happening because the spark died before it even had a full chance to begin. Can this be healed?

So when you are going through these tough times, remember your dharma is never blocked. You are being asked to focus more on healing the body physically, mentally, emotionally and connecting spiritually. Releasing trauma from the body, helping it feel safe, nourishing it with clean food and healthy mental inputs. So yes, it can definitely be healed and this is what your dharma is right now. Once it's healed, you will feel that spark again 🙏🏼😊

    The hardest part is seeking through, getting the clarity to see through. How do we achieve that? :) Once we do, it would tremendously help us to get over emotional over incidents and situations and just let go of the body sending as well. The key is in seeing through though, with clarity, and then (or by itself) processing the emotions within the body.

You want to trace the thought back top the correlated feeling and then feel/release that feeling. It can be tricky to do this on one's own, so I recommend seeing a professional to help guide through this. Best wishes with it 🙏🏼

Can I still process the stuff by relaxing out of it even though i'm not at the thresshold... or do I need to build up a lot of capasity and resources to get my system down to fight/flight? or as close to it as possible

    The ultimate method for transcending identification was taught by Buddha. He was a true investigator and reporter of the process. Just be still and direct your attention away from all thought. The breath is probably the most common object to which one can direct one's attention, but somatic experiences in the body are an option, too and might be more "entertaining". Regardless, one pitfall, and it's a big one, is creating a story about dis-identifying with another story. A story is a story is a story..

      Thank you 🙏🏼 Buddha also taught Vipassana as his direct experiential method, which includes somatic awareness with equanimity. Disidentification by itself is great for Self-Realization whereas Vipassana and Somatic Experiencing are great for emotional integration or what my teacher calls liberation work. Both are needed to avoid bypassing and this channel tries to reference both 🙏🏼

      Hi! I use the grounding mats when sitting at my desk, on the floor when I stand at my sink when doing dishes and grounding pad for my bed at night. I'm grounded 90% of the day. You can't over do it :) We are made to be connected to the earth...Enjoy it if you try it!
