This is so crucial for people on the healing path to understand. It took me a long time to get that trauma is actually happening in the present. Being obsessed with remembering and healing the past is just another coping mechanism to not feel what is going on in our body.

💯 I have seen where a client was trying to remember the trauma in the moment the old feeling was coming up and this mental efforting blocked the body release she was already experiencing. We just need to invite the feeling and keep the mind relaxed and blank or on sensory perceptions as it arises.
Sometimes the memory will come up as a byproduct, but not as a necessity for the release. As the memory comes up, let it pass too and not get hooked into the story of it, which can entrap the feeling again before it's done releasing. The memory can be processed later if someone wants after the body process is complete 🙏🏼

When we remember a story associated with a trauma, we do need to disprove the story as well as feel through the emotion. When we don't remember a story with a trauma, this part is simply not needed because the mind hasn't created a story in the first place...so nothing needs to be unwound. So in this video, I am specifically trying to reassure people that even if they don't remember a trauma, they can still release it and heal it.

What about EFT that has shown great results for people with PTSD working with the story and clearing it, Dawson Church has a big success record on that

I haven't studied EFT in great detail, but I know some basics and even tried it with success when I was procrastinating doing my taxes 😂 After 5 minutes of EFT, I very easily did my taxes!
To answer your question, they seem to use 1 simple line of the story and then say despite this, they accept themselves. So it's still reducing any mental resistance from any story, whereas most people use stories habitually to perpetuate mental resistance. I hope this addresses the question 🙏🏼 I think it's a great technique.

Oh, I think you were asking a bigger question than what I answered. When we remember a story associated with a trauma, we do need to disprove the story as well as feel through the emotion. What if when triggered you get images “first”, and so they are “distracting” from feeling the sensations because they seem so real so you want to avoid them and keep yourself safe and so there’s coping mechanisms coming with it. I know deep down that they aren’t real, but when I’m in the trigger it’s harder to stay in that truth. So what would you suggest when this is more the obstacle from feeling/connecting to the sensations in your body?

Images are interestingly also thoughts. We work with these just like thoughts: keep gently bringing attention back to feelings each time images arise and do not give them importance. Build this muscle of shifting attention with practice. See my video on how to decondition the ego habit and apply what I've said there about thoughts to images.

@@Nina.Goradia thank you so much! That really helps. I tried to do it today a bit and then I for some reason went into exhaustion. Maybe it’s unrelated to that practice, but I don’t know why I felt that. I wonder if you can talk about exhaustion in a video too because when is it a layer to be with and feel through and when is it a message from the body to rest?

@@stefk.1006 I have a video on exhaustion. The answer is always to rest in both cases.
