2.1L Sprinter Van water pump replacement, no audio Rushed job trying to get done before the rain. 8 MM allen head to remove bolt in fan. pull fan and shroud together. Be sure to change the change over valve along with the pump. Worse part of the job is pulling the fan, Take a 8 MM allen head socket cut it shorter to fit easier.

It is interesting to note.. this engine is great in the markets where it doesn’t have a DPF, EGR or the rest of the emissions equipment.. and it gets better mileage as well.. Just Sayin’
I replace my brake pad# every 10k miles on my 250
Work on sound and angles but great video man 👍
Hey have you seen A brand New Vacuum Reservoir on one of these bad from the box?
@@dayanordonez6876 Is it a OEM part?
@@drsoot9760 yeah straight from the dealership
@@dayanordonez6876 Not usually. If it was a cheap aftermarket yes. But anymore quality control has went out the window.
Hello I have mercedes sprinter 2008 lwb . I could not find the location of the selonied valve. Could you help please.
Some people didn’t love the audio, and some didn’t love that @drsoot9760 omitted the fan and shroud removal. I get it, but this is hands down the best video I’ve seen showing the actual removal of the pump and gasket. It’s 2024, and I’ve heard the carrier plate redesign, and O-ring on that vac pipe, might be wise to replace with my 140K mile 2015. Not sure, will pull a vacuum on that little devil, and see if it holds. Watching this video gave me the confidence, after couple weeks of research, also the additional part numbers for a potentially contaminated vacuum system, given by @natejohnson7013 might be money well spent and is a treasure trove of information…. This is a great post, and clarifies 50 other videos I’ve watched on the sprinter water pump vacuum problem. Also removing any crystalized coolant from inside lines with brake cleaner or hot soapy water then rinsed and dried seemed reasonable. Thanks to the community, giving out good info.
🏆
Do you have video on how to replace pressure regulator.
Valid point but the engine is a puma 3.2 and a good engine
thats a nice vac pump, what brand is it or whered you buy it?
It’s a mity vac brand. That one was ordered from Tooltopia.
@drsoot9760 thank you for uploading this video, I've watched a number of other videos on water pump replacements for mercedes sprinters and they all pretty much take the front end off and the fan out, does this not need to be done? I'm changing my pump this week and would love to know as it would save me so much time and headache. Thank you
Does the water pump act as the vacuum pump or does it just consume all the vacuum and cause the low boost code
Vacuum is what works the water pump. It moves a ring around the impeller to change the flow rate of coolant to warm the engine quicker. It’s only activated during cold start up. But the issue is if the seal fails it allows vacuum to escape. The vacuum pump itself is located at the rear of the engine on the left side. Gear driven
Brilliant videos..very helpful.thanks a lot.
Great video! Man I have 2015 sprinter with code P245C something with the EGR valve we did work on this engine to reemplace the Orings from oil housing now I have 4 codes !
Hi,my van won't start,no error codes on engine but on exhaust system I have low intake pressure, throttle valve out of range and egr rate out of range.i can send you the screen shots just so you can advice me what to check for
I have a 2016 Mercedes sprinter 2500 3.0l diesel van just had the water pump replaced along with pullys ect about 2-3 weeks after van now is in limp mode no turbo boost getting obd2 code p0237 says boost pressure sensor. I can't find where this boost pressure sensor is located or If that sensor is my problem any help would be much appreciated
The 3.0 V6 shouldn’t have had this type of setup. Check all your turbo pipe connections. Including the one from the air box to the inlet on the turbo.
Hi, when I installed the water pump on my sprinter 2015, the vacuum won't go in any direction, I removed the small rubber tube from the change over valve that goes to the water pump and I tried to blow air in and out and it doesn't go in either direction, I think the vacuum should go from the water pump to the change over valve. I need help about it, Thank you.
hi what is the part number ?
I have 2008 2.1 and I got the code p0243. Wastegate actuator A. Crazy thing is I found two of thise regulators under the hood. Shall it be one or two? I'm no mechanic and I'd appreciate any help
Hi, I have a 2014 e250 blutec with what I believe the same motor. Car was running fine but mechanic found the water pump was leaking. Car has about 120k on it so I had it changed. Since then I had the p261f code show up but drove for about a week. I was driving and got a turbo code p0299 and p00c4. The brakes also went out and the red brake sign illuminated on the dash. Towed to dealer and they said I needed a new vacuum pump. They replaced that and upon pick up no codes but car felt sluggish at low rpm. Slowly after all the turbo codes returned and I still had the p261f also. Car feels like it pics up at higher rpm. But initial take off it falls on its face. Any ideas?
Is this for the p226c code!??
That code can be related to it, due to the waste gate actuator being vacuumed controlled.
I’m having boost issue & will check my water pump tomorrow 🙏🙏
Thank you sir!! This fixed my vehicle. What a pain to change that part! Awesome thanks again 👍🏻!!!!
Thank you very much. I’ve been getting an overboost code And surging from 1400-1900 rpm. I just got an outlandish estimate from a car repair place. Im going to try and replace this piece first!
Thanks
Ford started out making consumer cars and not trucks, and it really shows
Hi would this cause sprinter to go into limp mode , mine will drive fine then goes into limp mode stop turn van off then sit for 5mins start and limp mode will be off
What Torque specs did you use on the new pump?
80
10nm on the water pump bolts
I hope you can help mate , I have this engine 2.1 really haven't had any complicated problem till it passed 250k , running fine but when you carry heavy load and push it a little bit hard , then the (P02A7 cylinder 4 fuel trim at min ) this code had really exhausted me mate , I checked every thing I know ( checked if any vacuum leak using spry method to see if idle will change No sign , swapped injector 4 with injector 1 , still same ) as soon as you clear code will start just fine and until you go uphill or carry heavy load , the only thing am suspecting is o2 sensor have you experienced this kind of problem ?
Hi what is the name of the valve your change too water pump and what is the other one
I have p261f code but no Leaks no damage I heard a sound like air but strong when it go to 1 to 2 shift and 3 shift may it is the vacuum the manifold was leaking it’s was Intek was leaking it was fix now is making air pressure sound Can be the vacuum?? Mercedes sprinter 2014 2.1 2500 ???
hello i am from france, i tried to maintain the vacuum and it does not hold the vacuum on the tank, do i have to change the vacuum tank or the water pump?? thanks thanks
Where u from I need help
North Carolina
Thank you for the video 👍
To add, the CAC hose rubs against the motor mount on the drivers side. God help you if you want to replace the front Macpherson struts. The dashboard has to be removed. The whole thing. Down the the firewall. Also, Ford says there is no cabin filter for this van in North America. There IS a cabin filter for the European version. Guess what? Both versions use the same A/C Evap core box and ducting. So yes. There is a cabin filter. And because Ford says there isn't, nobody checks. So the Evaporator core gets plugged full of all the dirt and crap from outside. So eventually it must be replaced. For this you must remove the dashboard. Which is handy if you're looking to replace the Macpherson struts. We have several of these, mostly diesel, but 2 gas. I have done this job on 3 of them. The frame is flimsy stamped steel sheet spot welded together. Stupid design. All garbage.
hi mate I just taken intake manifold cleaned it and same egr and put it back now the van crank but no start at all , checked the pressure sensor that attached to fuel filter with one bolt , looks like the connector on it will come right off but do think could be because of that sensor ?
I get the error code P2263 Turbocharger Boost System performance from time to time, when downshifting a gear or running full throttle on the highway, can this also be caused by the components you mentioned?
If I test the vacuum oil container like you, it loses vacuum slowly....replace that part?
Bought 2017 3.5 ecoboost in 2018. 70k driving through the desert and ca traffic for the past 3 years or so. Towed Jeep to Moab from Vegas (all up hill) have no problems so far ( knock on wood). Runs perfect, pulls like a freight train. Drove to Nebraska, Sturgis, Yellowstone etc. from Vegas in August pulling motorcycle trailer last year. Couldn't be happier. Now afraid to upgrade to 350 for more power based on these comments. Maybe I just got lucky? Change full synthetic oil at 10K and service transmission as owners manual states. No issues in 110 - 120 summer heat and freeways at 85 or stop-n-go so far. Don't jinx me! Very happy with my mid-roof transit! Sorry to hear of your problems. So far none of this has happened to me yet.
I would definitely stay with the gas motor. Unless things have changed they abandoned the 3.2L in early 2020 and didn’t even offer it as and option.
It's not a Ford engine unless it's got an oil leak😄
Is there a EGR delete kit for this engine
I have the 3.2L Diesel turbo in a 350HD van. We have been going through the EGR/leaking water/cooler deal for almost a year now. Finally stopped CELs, but I consistently lose power going up 5% grades (never an issue before) and it sounds like the turbo actuator or something is not letting the turbo give power, its like a naturally aspirated engine under load up hill. Cant even hear the dang turbo whistling like it used too. Found a bad inter cooler hose on the intake side, the hose that you had off to show the throttle body. What a nightmare. It just NEVER ENDS with this van. 3.2L is worst engine ive ever dealt with personally.
Such a nightmare they actually stopped offering them in the 2021s. Rushed to market to try meet EPA standards.
so basically if you take all the mounting clips that hold the lines in place, cut them loose and have all the hoses willy nilly, bouncing around rubbing on other hoses is somehow Fords fault? Cmon man! you gotta maintain the hoses and line clamps to keep hoses and lines where they belong so they dont damage other hoses , seems obvious.....
At less than 10k miles and 30 out of 30 delivered all the exact same way? Cmon man….
Engine is a failure
Thank you for the share!

Hi Doc, i just got the diagnosis from my dealer and they want to change the Vacuum Reservoir as well, I did not happen to see any talk of this in your video or the comments, is that also contaminated and need to be replaced? Thank you.
So per Mercedes guidelines for those repairs it does include replacing the vacuum reservoir. But with that being said, after repairing 100+ of those vans, I generally made a judgment call on whether to change them. If I didn’t see any crusty dried antifreeze I would send it. I think I only ended changing 2 of those the entire time.
@@drsoot9760 ok, thank you!
@@drsoot9760 Hi Again, as I went to buy the parts I learned more and got further concerned about how far I should go? They are saying that some pumps are now made without the vacuum attachment so that we forever avoid the leak into the cross over valve and i.e. Vac reservoir. They say that this vacuum system is just for short time the motor takes to warm up. Here in south Florida my motor is warm from the get go. The other thing I learned is that they have made a better “Water Pump Carrier Assembly” I guess for better fit and less leaks? Should we be putting in this updated part as well? Should I get a pump that eliminates the vac parts? I was told it will not throw any codes??? Thank you!
I was only able to install the traditional water pumps per the company I worked for. But I would definitely got that route just to be sure you won’t have the issue again.
can i ask how you got the 2 bolts off which you mentioned at the end which are on that slanted bracket Did u use ext or did u work close up I tried for hours and they are tight
Indeed they are tight. I used a longer 3/8 drive flex head with a shallow socket. Also I find it very helpful to take a small butane torch and warm the bolts before trying to break them lose.
Gonna go out on a limb and guess you work for Frito Lay
I did. Loved it to. Got tired of going in areas to bail out other techs just to see them stealing time and nothing getting done about it. In heavy equipment now. 👍
The dealer said I have leak on my 2015 2.1L no water showing so he must be talking about the vacuum. do you a video showing how to take the fan off?
Great info Thank you
