This channel is a low budget, one man operation mostly about gaming, specifically analog hobby games like tabletop miniature wargames. And because I’m old and outdated, the games I play on this channel are often old and outdated as well. They are also dependent on me, a big ol’ introvert, finding opponents for them, which means sometimes games I really like won’t get videos for a long time because I can’t find other players.
I try to post stuff only about what I'm actually doing, not what I intend to do or might do. Once a year there will be a Halloween video.
As RUclips now runs ads in all videos, I monetized the channel in an attempt to limit the ads and get a share of what I can’t prevent.
Feel free to comment, like, share or subscribe. Or don't. I'm not here to tell you how to spend your time.
You can also look for me on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. I'm not on those things, but you can still look.

Rusty Dagger Solo Adventure: Rescue from Stonelock
Once again we return to the World of Rusty Dagger, the indie, miniatures agnostic, zine format solo adventure game and the only one I know of that's named after the world's tavern.
In this game report, our notorious and down-on-his luck hero Raskin the Reptile has been hired by the Elven king of Everan to rescue his daughter from the fortress of Stonelock. So Raskin sets forth with the bold villager Jill and their new companion Vilde, an Elven archer.
So ready your weapons and pack your small healing potions as Raskin sets out for his fourth adventures. Will he rescue Azalea the princess of Everan? What challenges will he face? And will he continue to get his companions killed? Find out her...

Classic Warhammer Quest Solo Playthrough - Identify - Battle Level 4
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.3 месяца назад
At long last I got enough stuff painted to take my Warhammer Quest party into their first battle level four dungeon. As always we rejoin The Louts of Chaos, heroic good-for-nothings of the World That Was. In this quest, Lief the Leg-Biter the Barbarian, Hundred Luftballoon the Wizard, Ivor Shando the (Chaos) Dwarf and Naughtiness Maximus the Pit Fighter have been hired by local warlords to sett...
Ghostbusters: The Board Game - Campaign 2 - The Idulnas Incursion - Scenario 1

There really is no telling what I'm going to be able to get to the table these days. Here I am, juggling half a dozen games (I will get back to Warhammer Quest, I swear) and the one I end up playing is one I thought would be on the shelf for a while. But with the kids off school for the summer we broke out the old Ghostbusters: the Board Game by Cryptozoic Entertainment. The original four Ghost...

There they plan to learn the fate of a caravan sent to it and loot the rumored riches of the city, and not necessarily ...

This video is a little different than the usual ones. It's kind of a hobby/channel/work update all rolled into one, in that now I work at a new board game café in Citrus Heights, California, (Sacramento area). The important thing is that now I'll be hosting gaming events, so if you are local, come by, say hi, and maybe check out the store and what we have going on. It's essentially a large gami...

So, I know it's been a long time since I've posted a video (new job, end of the school year stuff), and I know this isn't the game most people want to see. But be patient, the summer is here, and hopefully there will be plenty more of the other stuff coming relatively soon. In the meantime, the Ghostbusters are back for their third mission in the classic first edition of Zombicide. I'm still tr...
Warhammer Skirmish vs Lego Minecraft: Bring Out Your Dead

This battle report started, as many things do, with my son mouthing off about how great Lego Minecraft is. Since I can't just let things go, I had to bring up that most of those models were already represented by Warhammer miniatures, which were clearly superior in every way. So one thing led to another, and eventually we settled on this challenge: His Lego Minecraft minifigs versus my Warhamme...

Warhammer: The Old World 500 Point Battle Report - Orcs & Goblins vs High Elves

For the final (for now) game of our 500 point Warhammer: The Old World battles, I've drawn another Orc & Goblin Tribes list. But this one is a little different. First, it uses both Orcs and Goblins, and the common varieties of both. Second, I'm using magic for the first time. My general is Briny da Deep, a level two Orc Wierdboy on battle magic with the Ruby Ring of Ruin. And finally, the list ...
Warhammer: The Old World 500 Point Battle Report - Ogre Kingdoms vs Tomb Kings

Warhammer: The Old World is subjected once again to ancient lead models, this time in the form of my Ogre Kingdoms army, which is clearly enthusiastic about heading out as they didn't even need to change their bases. As always the army is a compact 500 points, and their opponent is the restless legions of the Tomb Kings of Khemri. Duke Dunderling the Ogre Bruiser attempts to lead my first non-O...

Since the Plagsberg Petitioners (my band of civic-minded heroes riding at the forefront of the zombie apocalypse) have completed all the four hero, medium difficulty quests, it is time to add a new member to our ongoing Zombicide: Black Plague campaign. Welcome back to another adventure in tiny battles of Warhammer: The Old World. As before, a member of the gaming group and I were testing the Old World rules using 500 point armies. He was using the hideous Beastmen Brayherds, while I was choosing my army randomly from a collection of seven different list. This time we got my Green Omen Boyz, again from the Orcs and Goblins Tribes. But this tim...

This is so epic! How do you do the back banners? Did you model on the banner poles or how did you do that?
I really enjoyed this campaign, i hope you continue or do another!
That 8 pointed star was from michael moorecock’s fantasy novels GW just used it.
This is an awesome idea, I was trying to make something similar with raw Neodymium in the minis and bases, but they are strong enought, there is very little surface area for the magnets to have contact and it's risky to drill into the miniature to feet more magnets.
Love your GhostBusters great paint job - didn’t know there were rules to use them in Zombicide- 😊
These are awesome. I have been wanting to do the same for the Ghostbusters board game as well. I am thinking of doing the wall sections on some of the other map tiles for buildings where the red borders are. Thanks for the video.
these 500 points games are great !!
Forgot to comment here I think.. Curious what Halloween stuff you may be working on too.. ;)
No wonder it takes ages when you use a tiny brush to paint the base….
I like the photo story style. Great commentary. Good vid.
Great way to use the Frost Blade, in the Objective Room against a tough monster.
Great battle report Gashbad. I would recommend the Border Patrol Rules from WD 285. They’re available for free online. Border Patrol puts additional limits on what unit types you can take: 1 special OR 1 rare and no BSB’s. I have found it a great way to learn the rules.
Love this little wolf rider army, i have a common goblin army to paint after i have done my night goblins and i have loads of wolf riders in it there all the old marauder models which i think look so cool still, your conversions are great in all the models you have done so much character
The Marauder wolf riders are amazing and if I didn’t occasionally want to theme my wolf riders those are what I would use exclusively. Good luck with your army. Mine didn’t feel very strong, but it was a lot of fun tearing around the battlefield at high speed.
Not sure how else to contact you, would you be down to do some commission work? Would love to get a couple paper banners from you in my army.
Well, if you want to contact me I did set up an email for the channel at dmgashbad@gmail.com. That said, I did so commission banners way back in the day, but I don’t think it’s something I’m looking to get back into. The issue is I paint so slowly it’s probably not worth the price I’d have to charge.
What?? You can play these solo?
Reason i looked this warhammer up is cause i remember how cool the figures looked. I never owned em, but i had no clue there was solo play too
Well, yes. But really any cooperative game can be played solo if you are willing to run all the characters.
Good game, entertaining stuff. As usual great minis and presentation.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Nice looking houses! And some nice basic techniques. Myself, I kind of like just "dimpling" the foamcore on the walls with a ball of aluminum foil to get some texture, or even gluing down a sprinkling of sand, which give similar textures to the paste you used. I agree that your buildings are a a little large for "peasant cottages" but I think both are fantastic city buildings: a shoppe and a small bar/inn! Definitely a great video for inspiring others that they can make simple buildings quick!
Thanks. I’ll texture some walls or floors with rocks from the back yard. I’ve tried aluminum foil, but for whatever reason I tend to get sharp angles on the foil that punches little pockmarks in the foam, but I can see how that can make some good wall texture.
Another fun Raskin moment. What range iss Vilde from?
Thanks. He’s an old metal High Elf Shadow Warrior from Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
Yes! Love your Warhammer Quest playthroughs! Keep them coming. Thanks
Thanks. As soon as I get some time, I’ll set up another game. It’s just now I’m doing a paint-on-demand thing. I play the game, then go back and paint the models I didn’t have and photograph them later. So depending on how much new stuff I roll up the video could take a while.
Thanks for bringing this game to my attention. It looks like exactly my thing. Also, I like the format of these videos.
Thanks. It’s how the old battle report videos were done. It’s kind of a relic of it’s time at this point. And happy to present it. It does seem like something a Mr. Solo Tabletop would enjoy.
You say that this was too easy, but mate, after the last few adventures I feel Raskin and co deserved a break
Those golems and rats were rough. But you know Raskin. He lives for the abuse.
What is the Model for Vilde? (Wonderful paintjob btw. And great video!)
Shadow Walker from the High Elf Shadow Warriors.
That is correct, one of those middlehammer Warhammer models. Thanks!
This looks like a great fun game, I bought it immediatly off DriveThru for some small home gaming, thanks for this! Also, love the icy colourscheme of the khorne demon.
Thanks. I was going for a chrome effect, but at least it worked for this scenario. Just finished another game of Rusty Dagger, so I should have a new report in a couple days.
I love your videos they give me a lot of inspiration. Your paint work is beautiful. Keep up the good work....
Thanks. It’s slow going but I’m still moving forward.
Yay, finally the Louts are back!
Yeah, if only the good die young these guys will keep going forever.

WHQ was the best game i ever played. Nothing came close, bring it back GW.
I mean, they tried. Silver Tower, Hammerhal, Cursed City. None of them seemed as good as the original. Although I might try Blackstone Fortress if I got ahold of a copy for a good price…
how long do those 500pts games take?
Not very long. I think it’s usually less than an hour, not including setup.
First of all, I'm quite happy to see another WHQ video. I really love this campaign and would like to see you continuing it. I also feel that most of the fights aren't as thrilling as where the ones you had at Battle Level 1 or 2. I guess there hasn't gone much thought into the game regarding balancing with higher level player groups back in the 90s. As in a game as random as WHQ most fights appear to be rather one sided until they suddenly don't. As far as I can see it, there are three things which might tip your campaign out of balance at the moment: 1) high armour stats on two frontline characters - making them invulnerable to 1D+Str opponents 2) the immense damage output of your Pitfighter- that dude is just nuts 3) your rolls on the random encounter table have been extremly gentle in this playthrough You can't do much about point 3 (if you do and discard the randomness its not WHQ anymore) On the other things you can try your own houserules. In my campaign for example I have restricted the armour upgrades to half the Battlelevel. So the Dwarf starts with T of 5 and at BL 3 you could at armour for 2 points (open helmet and shield). He is still though as a Dward should be, but he could still take wounds from ordinary dungeon denizens. See what works out for you. Everything goes as long you still enjoy playing it.
The armor restriction is probably a good idea going forward. It keeps people (like me) from hanging out in lower level dungeons saving up to buy lots of armor before leveling up. I think running through the Lair of the Orc Lord stuff gave me access to really good weapons that I wouldn’t have had access to otherwise.
Awesome return for the Louts! My current party has just attained L3 and yeah there's a stabilizing effect that advancement brings but once the monster levels hit 6 or so where multiple magic users and large monsters start appearing, it gets hectic and deadly all over again. Level 10 is almost unattainable lol. Only done it once about 15 years ago.
Ooh. Ok, that’s something to shoot for.
My favorite band of degenerates 🔥💯
Aww. And you guys are my favorite band of degenerates.
If its getting easy use higher level monster a level or two above your level? There is no rule saying you cannot do this lol.
It’s true, although I try to run things as much as possible from the book. What I think I’m going to do to get back to harder games is to use the small Domain of the Horned Rat expansion from White Dwarf with a brand new party based on the Vermintide game.
Made my day! Thanks for posting Mr G. Haven't watched it yet, but I trust you. ;)
Nice easy one. ;)
Even the Louts deserve one now and then.
@@dmgashbad4908 Agreed! The boys were super lucky. Probably back to the grindfest next One. ;)
Have you tried 5 leagues from the borderlands? It could be a way to update the Louts into a new but similar gaming system.
I have. I don’t own the rules, but I did pick up Five Parsecs from Home, and I really, really want to get that going at some point. I was also looking at Warlord Ascendant as a way to get more mileage out of some of these models.
@@dmgashbad4908 I do like the designs on the shields. It reminds me of my joke about steak holders.
I would love to see this band have a final celebratory hurrah before being put out to pastures new
For sure. Maybe a nice hard quest where I don’t let myself use any rerolls.
yes more
Can do (at least, I don’t think it will take seven months for the next game).
Great video, love seeing the Louts winning even if they aren't struggling as much as they once were. It seems that in the dungeons of the Warhammer world, you either die on your first or second outing, or live long enough to become nearly indestructible.
Or by Batman logic, we’re probably not going to die as heroes. We’ll probably live long enough to become the villains.
Verminlord has entered the chat...
I’ve waited so long for this! Come on you louts! EDIT now I’ve watched the video, I agree that unfortunately WHQ just gets easier after battle level 1, but level 1 is punishing. Cure light wounds removes any real threat of death in combination with a few healing potions. As an idea, you could generate level 4 characters but without any magic items or outside abilities. That way you can continue to use the awesome minis you’ve painted for the higher levels. Can’t wait to see some more!
I think there are plenty of ways to make higher levels more difficult. I could level up faster, giving me less time to acquire magic items and armor. I could avoid the Lair of the Orc Lord adventures, which give you the opportunity to get really nice magic weapons. And finally, I could leave the Pit Fighter behind. He feels a little like a crutch, and swapping him with something like a Witch Hunter or Elf would dramatically reduce the power level of the party.
Before watching this, is there a video where you detail how you play solo? Mechanics for deciding enemy actions?
The core game includes all these rules as it was always a coop / solo game
Yep, what he said. I only specify that it’s a solo game because it was meant to be played by four people, each controlling a character, and here it’s just me running all four.
The game has built in enemy behavior. All enemies will distribute as evenly among the heroes as possible with extras drawing hero tokens at random.
Woohoo. More Warhammer quest!!!
It’s been a while, but it’s not going away. Thanks for everyone’s patience.
Just found this. Absolutely brilliant and a credit to you!!
Thanks!
KISS, right?! I was wondering about converting my old dwarf 20mm mini's to the new 25mm standard, and you've solved my problem for me. Thank you so much for posting this. Kudos!
No problem. Glad you found it helpful (even if helping Dwarfs is not usually what I do).
I love this
My comment will probably hit a wall but... Where do these dwarves sculpts come from? They are gorgeous!
No wall here. They are 3d prints from Highland Miniatures.
I just got a 1400 point fantasy battle army and have been pondering how to tackle this without spending too much money. Thank you!
You are welcome. Good luck with your new army.
Watching in 2024 trying to find inspiration to paint my OldWorld vamps. I really like the spin you put on your ghouls! The scenic pit base reminds me of the portals from Stranger Things. I might steal your simple black paint scheme.
Sounds good. If nothing else it makes painting them really fast.
lol. That's brilliant.
Thanks. I keep telling people about my brilliance, but very few believe me.
Great to see a gameplay video from you!
Thanks. I’d make more, but my painting has been lagging.
and now with the new old world arcane journal, about half of that is gone. i was going to look into that for oldworld but i dont see any listings even with people who reviewed the new journal of spider riders or the big spider thing. yet tomb kings got to keep all their last edition large models. kinda meh because an army like this is why i would go with orcs and goblins in the redo of old world.
But you can always use the list from Ravening Hordes, right? The Spider Riders, Gigantic Spiders and Arachnarok are still in that list.
Been building a 500 pt army for the first and its so cool to see games being played at this scale. Just wondering that size table are you playing on so I know when I start?
We play on 4’x4’ tables, but really that’s a holdover from 8th edition. You could use smaller tables these days. It’s great you’re starting with small games. I think they are not talked about enough.
@@dmgashbad4908 awesome! Cant wait to get my elves on the table now.
Just discovered this channel and damn these are good! I would love to see more videos like this. I want to see Raskin rebuild his company!
Hmm. I did just buy the Forces of Fantasy book for Warhammer: The Old World. Maybe Raskin should start assembling an Empire army…
