IMO, knowing the source code is not important. However, it is important to understand how the game engine works. These two statements are not the same AFAIK. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

@@ProgrammerCheema that's why pakistan can't develop AAA titles or even AA. Ive spoken to different students across pakistan from AIR, LUMS and PUCIT (idk if its the correct name of or not or maybe it was PCUIT) and all of the game dev students just seeked shortcut not learning to code or how it is actually done, without knowing the game engin's source code or fucntionality of the specific part of code such as the scripting api you can't do anything much with it really. this is why pakistan lacks. your channel is the only one I have seen so far actually making game dev content in pakistan so keep it up.

You are correct regarding academia. And thank you! With that said and after spending years in the industry, here's my informed take: even if you become expert in a game engine or have your own custom game engine, you still can not develop a solid game. Becoming a game engine expert or being able to craft your own game engine does not equate to being able to develop a solid game. What we strongly lack is, the culture of gaming and the understanding of game design (the 'thinking' of the game; its mechanics and rulesets). A totally different topic which I will cover in a seperate video.

I have been a game developer for a long time, I took break from the gaming industry with the last title I worked on at 2k which was the darkness 2. my friend Nathan Cheevers is still in the gaming industry he keeps updating me with the trends from time to time. I am now a full time 3D modeler and rigging artist for vfx production and game dev optimization and a senior shader artist. what I saw teaching some students from pakistan was they do not care about learning game design, the maths behind functions or anything they copy from the internet mostly (which is not as bad thing) but they act like if they get stuck they are like as if there's a giant crater in their way and they won't move past that problem on their own rather you have to build a bridge for them. looking forward to more of your content, subbed.

Yeah, same. My goal is making solid indie games and not AAA. But as we all know, most of the local gamers (and even devs) do have this 'AAA' mindset. They think that it is not worth making anything lesser/smaller than that.

I feel sorry for you. With that said, here's something I wanna say: the indies, I am talking in the video, created their own time and space for developing indie games. I know all of them and many are 'barely-making' middle class people. I, for one, do 'part time' gamedev jobs (YES, in a market where full-time is only available, it is possible and you must negotiate for it AND I have never worked on 'crappy' mobile games while so) and gamedev freelancing (the best path for indies IMHO) which allows me to set up my game studio and, develop my own games and/or content (videos). I know that indie gamedev is definitely very hard and is only for super passionate folks. The devs of Liminalcore failed multiple times before, to reach this success. It is mostly a matter of your will and undying thirst to keep going forward! :D

A little criticism from me... If we start thinking of government like this, good luck doing ANYTHING. Like seriously! That's like finding an excuse to do nothing. Allah per bhi tawakal karo bhai, raste nikal aate hain :)

Don't need to hear that, it'll only piss me off lol. What I'll instead say is, good luck with your projects. I'll find my own way I guess. What I have learned from the game dev industry is that it's literally one dev for themselves in this market.

Thank you! Yeah, gamers in subcontinent think that games like GTA and PUBG are the only sellable ones which has created such a negative space for our gaming industry in general. My point is that we should focus on crafting very polished short experiences and mechanics (so, called indie games) rather than focusing on open world adventures with multi-purpose designs and mega scope (which are mostly considered as AAA or AAAA games). In fact, it is a ladder: Indie/A -> AA -> AAA and that, we can't really dive into AAA without having any understanding of the appeal that Indie/A delivers to the audience. Because just as you mentioned, players want an enjoyable experience, and they are willing to pay for it! The Void Project is developed by my friends, Rayyan and Adil. Both are brilliant young individuals, and they are really passionate about quality games. The Void Project is their first real effort and definitely, we will see many more from them.
