2025: Is this the Year I Knit, Crochet, and Organize EVERYTHING?
New year, new making goals-or at least that’s the plan. In this video, I’m laying out my grand, slightly chaotic plans for 2025. From stash management to finally organizing my needles (maybe), improving my crochet skills, and possibly buying a knitting machine (Oscar has thoughts), it’s going to be a year of big projects and small gnomes. Come for the plans, stay for Oscar’s sarcastic commentary.

Discover Sequence Knitting: All Textures - No Charts!
One of my granddaughters is crocheting, and is loving it. My 2025 plan is to FINALLY learn to spin. I have a wheel and a medium size stash of fiber. I am thinking of getting an electric wheel, as mine is too cumbersome to take many places.
Ya know, Oscar is not wrong about that cashmere dog bed. 😄 If you're just pretending to know what you're doing with crochet, I'd say you're doing a fine job of faking it. You have crocheted some very spiffy pieces! I learned fairly early on that machine knitting wasn't for me. I too had visions of instant sweaters dancing in my head. I bought a Bond machine with many accessories. I hated the whole process - it just took the joy out of knitting for me. And so it has sat in it's box for, oh maybe close to 20 years. 😏 I really should just bite the bullet and donate it to a charity shop. Thanks for another fun episode, and scritchies to little Oscar! 😊
My 2025 goals are to create a minimalist knit wardrobe. So I am knitting one classic of each - tee (raglan & drop shoulder), jumper (same), cardigan (same) with a few cables garments, a couple of hats, fingerless mitts for gifts and maybe my first colourwork jumper thrown in there somewhere too. 😊❤
The knitting machine is a better workout and a great exercise for the arms and abs 😊
TL YARN CRAFTS, Toni Lipsey! Her book on Tunisian crochet is so so so good!
Toni Lipsey is great for beginning tunisian crochet. When you're ready for something more advanced, check out exquisite crochet UK and knitter knotter. Both have very good tutorials for techniques Toni doesn't cover.
Tony Lipsy is definitely the Queen of Tunisian!!!
hi i always enjoy watching you what was your first needle set as a new knitter
Last year I got a sweet barrister cabinet off of Marketplace. I brought all my yarn together and put it in piles on my living room floor. I first put it in batches of weights so I could basket up some of it and give me more space, then I looked to see types- like all J&S jumper weight or some kind of grouping. I moved through all the weights and pared down things I know I wouldn’t use. Finally I got clear tubs (no lids) to pack the groupings in- I think 8 bins per shelf. I now have cedar packets on each shelf and because the shelf covers are glass and the bins are clear I can easily see what I have. I have knit from my “Local, local” yarn store so much more. If I decide to use a bit of something purchased for another pattern so be it- if I am not gravitating to the pattern I bought it for maybe it wasn’t what I really wanted in the first place.
Dont fret Oscar - no snack giving-up required methinks!! 😅 (Made my head spin with the sheer ambitiousness!!) Great fun as always. Happy New Year 🎉❤
Gnomes! I’ve made Gnatty The Unexpected Gnome by Sarah Schira as a gift and I loved how it turned out. My Mom had a knitting machine and found it to be a whole new knitting experience, learning how to program it.
I like the sweater you wearing. Cool design! About the knitting machine. I'm afraid we'll lose you to this craft.
This person is a new knitted; she shows some sweaters, parts of which she machine-knitted. Knitting Jungle Knitting Podcast Ep. 12 - Every Sweater I Knit 2024 with Try-On | Colorwork Sweaters!
I started quilting when there were plenty of “purists” in the guild. Using a sewing machine to quilt was always my thing. Hope you enjoy your knitting machine.
I know we mentioned Toni during our zoom call Friday, but if you have a Craftsy or Interweave membership you can find some good classes - sometimes free on those two platforms.
Hi , MDL crochet is excellent for Tunisian crochet tutorials and Crystal at Bag O Day crochet is excellent at crochet stitch tutorials as well as garments and accessories. 😍
I was going to say the same thing. I have the same Lantern Moon Tunisian crochet hooks & TL Yarn crafts taught me everything I know 😉
lol…”start all over again to remember how to do it” That’s me 🥺 I make notes, then months later I ask myself WT heck did I write there!?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 For general crochet tips check out: -Play hooky with me -Elise Rose crochet -Naztazia (Donna Wolfe)
There's a lovely young woman who has a podcast, Knitting Jungle. She combines her hand knitting and machine knitting....such as doing a colour-work yoke by hand, but the stockinette body by machine
If I can Finish my Book Club Cardigan I will consider 2025 a success. I have been doing fairly well at using up stash for smaller projects. Good luck on carrying out your plans. planning is the very best first step.
Toni Lipsey is the crochet QUEEN for standard and Tunisian crochet. If you don’t already have it, I highly recommend her Tunisian crochet book. Elise Rose Crochet also has some good amigurumi tip videos that really helped me a lot. I swatched and cast-on a So Faded over the holidays before I got sick, but haven’t gotten much done yet. I REALLY want to make one of your wrapovers, I just haven’t settled on a pattern yet. I’ve been going down a sewing rabbit hole - made dining room chair pads, a pincushion, and am almost done with a bag for a wooden knitting basket my Mr. Handsome made me.
Tony Lipsey will not disappoint. I'm looking forward to your getting a knitting machine! Unexpectedly, while tackling my own stash issues and (thanks to one of your Ravelry tutorials,) doing a pattern search based on the yardages in my stash; I found myself getting very enthusiastic about using the yarn I already have. Who knew? Great channel!
I have found that crochet hurts my hands now. I think my muscles are too used to knitting. A knitting machine sounds cool but I don’t think I would enjoy setting it up. I’m interested to see how it works for you! I love your videos!
Years of knitting=lots of stuff!! Maybe there’s a women’s shelter who would love some of those kits. Get a knitting machine! I want a sock machine. I think they are actually harder than they look.
Thanks so much for this episode. I am trying to do some of those same things. I stopped in the middle of watching the video to go to Ravelry and see if I could change some of the queue to favorites. I could not figure out how to do it and I can’t seem to find so far your ravelry helps but I will go look again. Many thanks have a good year.
Toni from TL yarn crafts for Tunisian crochet 100% If you haven’t tried it , definitely break out that lantern moon set and go to her Tunisian crochet playlists - ones called start here - you will absolutely adore Tunisian crochet as a knitter because of the fabric it creates - now you have me excited for you!!!❤ Also do not make Oscar out of the vicuña wool !!! You need to wrap yourself in that for sure , so my vote is for the dude cardi!
Ps ok so most of your knits for last year you confessed to buying new yarn for but omg did you make such beautiful creations! I’m in love with all of them ❤
I’m not against knitting machines however if you have noise sensitivity .. might be something to consider and something that can be easily overlooked Sorry for the numerous comments - I’m commenting as I watch 😂❤
Machine knitting is just another fiber art. Not cheating. To me it looks even harder than hand knitting for all that it is faster. Cant wait to see what you get in to
I’m very interested in your progress with knitting machines. I’ve toyed with the idea myself for a while and a bit of arthritis in my fingers makes me think one may be in my future as well. Thank you for another fun episode.
i would be interested in a knitting machine if I could make the book club cardigan with it.
I blame Elan for most of my stash. While I was working, I could go online and buy yarn- which is what I picked after shopping for shoes. Most of the shoes have been given away, but I have all the yarn. I even found a hank I bought in high school to use to wind around my boyfriend's ring.
Thank you!
I can hardly wait to hear what you decide on a knitting machine !!!!!
Oh My Lord, I was just going to ask about a Knitting machine !!!!!
Dear God, I just bought a pile of Spin Cycle Trine because I want to make the Trinigan jacket at some point and it seems like they’re about to stop making Trine. Augh. 🤦♀️
I have 3 knitting machines and an addi circular....the only one I really use. I want a circular sock machine....😏. The knitting machines are stored by my looms and miscellaneous fiber tool must haves, I never use. I have a chest of knitting needles and crochet hooks...that I use. I am down to 2 spinning wheels and a collection of designer spindles, but really only use my handmade cd drop spindles that are custom weighted to yarn weights and fiber types...because the engineer in me needs to be fed as much as the fiber artist! 😊 I just got diagnosed at 60 with AuADHD... Add up all my fiber toys and fiber stash.... it's still a bargain when compared to all the therapy and meds the 'advise'. Pretty sure my fiber worrmhole has kept my neoro divergent brain functioning and thriving for 60 years without all of the above. I traded in guilt and shame for pure joy and balanced hits of dopamine 😘. Remember to thoroughly enjoy the journey...chaos and all! ❤
I LOVE your videos !!!!
You can do it!💓💕💖 You are the one who convinced me to get my stash in control. And I did it! I actually had a knitted Big L style sweater in college in the mid 1970s. But I recommend being careful crocheting any sweater. I’ve been a crocheter since age 5 - crochet sweaters can be heavy. Kim Guzman is great for Tunisian. I think she has a class through Annie’s. Finally, take care of and don’t overwork yourself. 🤗🤗 to Oscar - I agree with him about the cashmere bed! 😉
Thanks for the encouragement! 💖 And Oscar thanks you for the support
I’m settling in for this to be a year if finishing projects and using up stash.
Love your podcast. I look forward to every Saturday. About the knitting machine. Go for it. I would love to try it but don’t think I want another learning curve. The frustration might kill me. (I had a knitting attack last night and had to frog a whole sleeve). I look forward to seeing what you do.
It's good to know you're looking forward to seeing the knitting machine progress! I'll be posting lots of updates! 😄 (p.s. - sorry about the knitting attack ☹ )
Love it! I would like to finish my WIPS and start about 50 new projects this year! Lol! And a million sewing projects! Oh, and I really really want to get back into applique--like applique motifs on quilted table toppers! Already bought the Aurifil applique thread awhile back.
I feel you! That's the spirit! 😂
TL Yarncrafts for Tunisian crochet!
That was my suggestion too
I highly recommend Marly Bird for learning crochet (and knitting)!
Ooo...yes! I'd forgotten about Marly. Thank you 😀
This Podcast is perfect and makes me look forward to all your Podcasts to come! Clear, concise and just wonderful.❤
Thanks so much, Wendy!! Mwah 😘💖
If you make the Dude sweater, I’ll be your knitting accountability buddy!! I’ve had the yarn for this for five…FIVE…years!
If you make the Dude sweater, I’ll be your knitting accountability buddy!! I’ve had the yarn for this for five…FIVE…years!
Awesome! My only mis-giving about starting this one is that I need to BUY yarn for it. I may have to wait until I use up at least one sweater's worth of stash yarn before I can justify it 😋🙄😂
Can you give details on your Tunisian hook set please? Tinna Thorudottir Thorvalder has an amazing RUclips channel. She does Tunisian mosaic.
It's the Bequest Tunisian Crochet Set by Lantern Moon. 😊 Thanks for the tip about Tinna - I'll check her out 😀
For a knitting machine... Go and watch Engineered Knits. She restores vintage machines but I had almost every single problem with my modern machine that she has. I spent more time fixing tangles and dropped stitches than actual knitting.
Yes! I have watched a few of her videos. I'm sure I'll be binging them when I get the machine 😃
After my yarn stash decided to explode out of its cupboard recently, I decided I must sort it out and reduce it to a manageable size. More knitting, more “gifting”, more donating to the local charity shop. How has that turned out? I got “suckered” by some lovely new yarn in fabulous colours, weights and textures with amazing patterns to try out - and at fantastic sale prices!!! Who can resist a bargain? Sooo, I now need to sort out more storage space. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Ha ha! On the way 😃
For crochet, I follow Rich Textures Crochet. She has a weekly crochet stitch tutorial.
Thank you! I'll check her out 😊
For Tunisian or any crochet I go Toni Lipsey at TL Yarn crafts. Her tutorials are amazing.
I second this!
Toni Lipsey. at TL Yarncrafts got me Tunisian crocheting. and her new sweater, the Maple sweater is an easy crochet sweater
Good to know I'm on the right track! 😃
