Hi Knicole! I went out and bought the Sabai pattern and knit up the plain version in black linen/cotton. I love how, once you’ve reached the lower end, you’re fine! No armhole ribbing, no beck ribbing. Done! And it fits beautifully! Thx for the suggestion.
The patterns are a matter of taste. I personally don't like any of the designs shown, but your thoughts on them are very interesting and instructive ❤ What I really like, however, is the stitchpattern you chose for the first top - this book is going on my wish list 👍
I would be shocked if everyone liked all the patterns I pick 😂 I'm so glad you got some value despite the patterns not being your jam. It's a fun book! 😊
Wow Nicole! What a great crop of patterns. Thanks. Sabai has been in my Favourites for a while. It always gets pipped to the post by a 4ply summer top instead. But I do love it. The wrapped stitches in the Mapledown tank top is exactly like the pattern I'm knitting at the moment which is Boyland Knitworks' Hawthorne Tank. It's very effective. Internal Training - jaw on floor. I love it!!! I think it may have accidentally fallen into my Ravelry basket.... Kate Davies can do no wrong. She is fantastic and clever and kind and I have a shelf groaning under quite a few of her books which I have had her sign at Edinburgh Yarn Festival a while back. Me a starstruck fan?! And Biscotte has introduced me to a couple of fab designers. Evelyn is someone I will be browsing...
I made the maple down vest and love it! Used the recommended yarn. Only modification I made was that I lengthen it after finishing it! Great challenge.
Well, your breaking down of the Stella patten has really whetted my interest and six colours!!!! Admiring your beautifully matched necklace - am I right in thinking it's either knit or crocheted with the addition of some kind of crystal bead?
So I’ve bought the Interval Training cowl pattern. It was one of those “Wow” patterns and I tend to make Wow patterns, they don’t just sit in my pattern stash for ever more. Now I have to learn how to do the German cast on - left handed 😳 Thank you oh Mistress Enabler 😂
I'm working on Interval Training right now! I'm left-handed and I do the German Twisted Cast On with the yarn in my left and needle in my right, as it's usually shown. Try it - you might find it's just fine 😊
I love Kate Davies’ patterns. I have made the Carbeth Cardigan and because I love the cropped boxy look of it so much I also plan to make the Carbeth Sweater. 😊
Thanks for the video. The Sabai top looks interesting, but it doesn't look too bra friendly for me. I might consider finding a way to not make it so curved inward at shoulders. I love the Mapledown vest. Looks fun to knit. The cowl is beautiful. I like that it could be a cowl or a small shawl. You are right, there are so many patterns on Ravelry that don't get much attention. I knit a shawl pattern a few years ago that I really love, and I think I am the only one that has knit it! It is the R&R shawl.
Great info! I had seen the Stella sweater and was really intimidated by the construction. Now that you’ve explained it I have confidence to try it and it’s in my favorites. And thanks for keeping the pattern name and designer up on the screen while you’re talking about it - saves me from searching later.
I join you in really liking the look of Interval Training. However, when you said “embroidery,” I said “nope!” I suspect others feel the same and that’s why it’s not in as many queues.
You may be right about that! I posted a poll recently about a possible knitting challenge and surprisingly the embroidery on knitting is currently running at #2, so I guess there's curiosity at least 😋
Another great video Nicole! I'm a new subscriber and really enjoying watching all your past episodes. Sark is Scots for a foundation/essential garment and I have to tell you I have the book and it is totally worth it. I made the Serkinet cardigan and it's hands down the most interesting pattern I've knit plus the best FO!
I have yarn for the Smookie....I'll have to check that it's a yarn that will show definition 😬. I really appreciate the spotlight shining on lesser known designers. Sometimes it seems like I'm seeing the same sweaters repeatedly. I love interesting construction....are you familiar with Jennifer Beale's patterns?...she's a wonderful Canadian designer ❤
Wow! I was not familiar with Jennifer - her work is amazing! I'll definitely feature her designs in my next Wallet-worthy episode. Thanks for the great tip! 😍

Thanks for this Nicole! I once ordered 2 skeins of a limited edition Shetland yarn from The Woolly Thistle. The exchange rate made it even pricier and then I got charged duty which was almost as much as the cost of the yarn! (I’m in B.C. too). I still haven’t used the yarn because I feel it has to be something really special!
@@margaretgerth1067 Yeah, unfortunately I always think twice before ordering from the US. It seems like it used to easier with less shipping and duty, but maybe I’m imagining things 😋😂
I'm loving your videos - so much information. I'm really interested in the necklace, but I didn't see the link in the description box. Can you provide the link here? Gotta get started on Christmas gifts!
I’m almost at the bottom of the Sabia top and i really like the panel down the sides. But……. I’m going to need more yarn so fingers crossed that I can get the same batch!! If you have a look at the poem by Robert Burns - Tam O’Shanter - when Tam shouts at the witches “weel done cutty sark”. He is saying to the young witch in the short shirt that she has done very well in the dance that they’re doing - worth a look at the poem even if you can’t speak Scots Some lovely patterns to have a look at today. Thank you Nicole. 🙋🏼🏴
Do you have a video showcasing Canadian shops to buy online for yarns/fibres or knitting supplies for knitting…? Or is there somewhere on Ravelly that shows Canadian yarn shops, Canadian fibre sellers etc. As a fellow Canadian, it would be nice to know from someone who is extremely knowledgable as yourself, places in Canada where we can purchase knitting items for our knitting addiction.😁 TIA
