I didn't think I would be commenting as by 1984 I had grown out of trick or treating, but in 4th grade (1979-1980) I was a werewolf. I used the stereotypical plastic mask, attached a wig/hair piece to the back to cover my own hair, added to faux hair to the end of the sleeves of the shirt I wore, and added artificial brown nails for claws. At school my teacher then tried to guess who each person was. She thought I was a girl due to the nails.

We would usually throw costumes together using old clothes that were on hand. My siblings and I used the plastic masks one year, and we hated them! So, it was back to being hobos, pirates, cowboys, or whatever we managed to dream up. On a totally unrelated note, how do you keep all those action figures in place on the shelves behind you? lol

    • @GENXPERIENCE

I was a HOBO so often...but Dracula too, no masks for me. Okay, I wore just a mask (not plastic smock) once as well. NOPE...more fun without it. So, SOME of this figures need action figure putty under their feet, to be sure. Thanks for writing.

The original Rattlor never was one of my favorite MotU figures, despite being one of the more feature-rich, but it still holds a special place for me among all the MotU action figures, for a weird, embarrassing reason: I thought I invented it. hehehe I remember how I came up with the idea of a snake-man who could elongate his neck before Rattlor existed, or better said, before I ever saw it, so when that one came out, my little brain actually concocted a half-baked conspiracy theory that some spy from Mattel could have sneaked around my parent's house and was listening in at the window when I told my buddy about my awesome idea for a new character/figure. lol That the idea was so obvious that it kind of was inevitable didn't cross my mind.

I had a single figurine from a really obscure toyline. No idea what it was called, but I remember having seen a ad in some magazine that showed maybe 6 or 7 different figures and when I saw them in a toy shop one day, I bought one of the evil characters. That line's gimmick was that all the figures/characters were robots and none of them had legs, but they were all standing on a base that was a big suction cup, so you could stick them to some surfaces. So they all kind of, vaguely looked a bit like the Daleks from that Doctor Who show, but each one looked different, with one having a dome-shaped head and one having a cubic head and so on. They were relatively big, maybe 5 or 6 inches tall. The one I had could hug stuff with his arms when you pushed a button on the back and its long, pointy "nose" was a drill that kind of looked like the horn of a unicorn. Does anyone have a idea what I'm talking about?

@@GENXPERIENCE I found a picture through the Google image search. Apparently the toyline was called "Robo Force" and the main character, also a robot, was called "Maxx Steele" and apparently sometimes the whole toyline was referred to by that name, much like "He-Man" was kind of synonymous with the whole "MotU" toyline. It was produced by the "Ideal Toy Company" in 1984, according to Wikipedia. If you look up pictures, I had the one called "Vulgar the Destroyer", lol What a name. I just discovered that there even was a cartoon show and you can find at least one episode on RUclips.

@@GENXPERIENCE I found a short (15 minutes) documentary about the toyline on a channel called "Secret Galaxy". Apparently it wasn't even that obscure. There was a unusually big marketing push for it, with tons of merchandise. It just failed miserably because it came out at the same time as the Transformers toyline and it just was boring and outdated in comparison. No, it is me who has to thank you. If I wouldn't have been inspired by stumbling over your video, I wouldn't have gone down that rabbit hole.

I had a number of the Air Raider sets. I have all of the Mego Eagle Force, who debuted well before GI Joe. If you check the similarities between those two toy lines you may wonder if they stole something (Both lines had a Wild Bill, a Ninja Bad Guys, Snake Theme Bad guys, etc). I had some many of the Battle Beasts I did not even notice when they started to come up missing. Still have a few and they are still cool (run signs do not work though). Captain Power was that one toy your friend had and never used it as intended, not sure what happened to it because he only brought it out once. I never got any MASH, but again friends are as Friends do and one of them had Hawkeye. I thought he was neat, but I was into Star Wars. Robotix is one of the toylines I had that I have lost all but a few pieces to that I have not tried to get back into. The 80s had misses, but their hits were great

A lot of people don't realize the writers for those exact cartoons were the same folks. Great stories, even if they sold toys. I bought it all.

This is insulting to the toyline & collectors- why do it? I thought this was going to be a video about all the weird random Merch put out in the 80's but trashing actual figures? Besides twistoids they were all great.

lol....no, its not insulting. As a collector and fan from the first generation...I do not feel bad finding some of my most loved belongings ridiculous. Doesn't mean I love them any less. You missed the point. Why write your comment.

You just reminded me that the TV got turned off during dinner. I remember a handful of special times we ate pizza in the living room watching a rented VHS movie. 99% of the time it was the whole family sitting at the table though. I remember my parents responded to me saying “I’m bored”, with “I can find something for you to do!” 😂

Hey there. You bet. NO TV...unless special occasions. My mother and your mother were cut from the same cloth.

Hasbro must have made huge money mid 80s. There were so many Joes and Transformers coming out, and both cartoons played back to back after school. I didn’t have time or an allowance big enough to afford any other lines although my buddy had some MASK that I thought were totally rad!

It truly sounds like we had a very similar experience in our youth. I did buy a few pieces myself, but it was scraping to do so. Outside of birthdays and Christmas new toys were few and far between. But yeah, some kids had it good! Thanks for sharing. I loved it.

Man that Strawberry Shortcake shirt 😂. I need one to troll my sister. Yep almost 50 and still picking on her!😂 Side note, my buddy and I got busted sneaking out one night because before we left we were setting off those capgun strips in my room and my mom later came to check what we were doing because of the smell 😂

First, I LOVE THE cap gun sneak out story. Now that's living. Yeah, I just have a handful of whatever Pop Culture of the Era shirts to wear...and it's always a topic of conversation, lol. Men's Dept at Target. Oh, and picking on siblings should never end, am I right?

I had the red Omnibot Transformer, and the silver one I think. My buddy was into MASK, those were really cool toys! I stuck with focusing my allowance on more Transformers though. I don’t remember some of these at all though. So lucky to have grown up in an awesome decade for kids, and then became a teen in the early 90s and experienced the whole Grunge phase! Great times! 😊

Today's kids may boast of their sophistication but I've long contended that kids of the 70s like myself had to have a certain level of sophistication to take what bizarreness television offered at the time (The Brothers Krofft, and vintage Sesame Street and Electric Company for instance) without freaking out. ;D

    • @GENXPERIENCE
      @GENXPERIENCE 5 дней назад

Love your philosophy on sophistication. I have to agree we were a bit sophisticated in some respects, but we also did better without all that digital high tech wizardry and just lived simply...with crazy ass fun stuff to watch.

Those PSA announcements were something. The one Time for Timer PSA that I like was the one when he was dressed as a cowboy. A hanker for a hunk of cheese was his musical number. I remember that one PSA that dealt with drugs. It had people saying say yes to this but say no to drugs. The one that stood out was some guy in a rock band saying, "Say yes to music. But hey, say no to drugs." And me and my sister would always make fun out of the way he says it.

    • @GENXPERIENCE

lol...it was easy to make fun of some of them, for sure. However, it was cool that there was some, even if corny, ways to drive home some messages to us kids. But boy there were so many, fun, silly, cringe worthy cheese, etc. By always wanted a "Wagon Wheel" from Time for Timer, lol.
