Lumatone Artist Spotlight | AMELIA HUFF
Amelia Huff -- also known as @ZheannaErose -- was one of the first on Earth to own a Lumatone, and is a highly influential composer and performer who has been a leading voice in the exploration of microtonality and alternative tunings.
Fortunate enough to collaborate multiple times with her, our latest trip to her new studio in Los Angeles was nothing short of breathtaking. We spent an inspiring day together, spoke about her perspectives on music, what drives her, and the often misunderstood concept of "microtonality." We also were lucky enough to spend a lot of that day filming her playing her Lumatone as she would have on any other day.
Every single performance in this film is improvised...

Learning Lumatone: Ep. 35 - "Wicki-Hayden Basics"
Просмотров 6 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Lumatone is all about seeing music differently and inspiring performances you wouldn’t have played on a traditional piano layout. We do this by visualizing notes and intervals in new and inspiring ways. We've already explored the standard Lumatone layout (also known as bosanquet-wilson), as well as the harmonic table. Dave is now moving onto a perhaps lesser known layout that is becoming more a...
Lumatone Chord Shapes | 22-EDO
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.Год назад
One of the most powerful features of Lumatone is that you only have to learn a chord shape once, allowing you to use the same shape, no matter what key or tuning you're playing in. For example, a minor chord is the same shape for C minor as it is for F# minor. This makes it far easier to learn Lumatone from scratch when compared with a piano or other instruments, and helps inspiration strike in...

A game-changing feature of Lumatone that composers, producers, and performers love is that it can be a dream master controller. Build layouts with that can control up to 16 different instruments at once. Recall them in your DAW with a click. Or, abandon your computer altogether and control up to 16 analog synths! Whatever your sounds are, Lumatone helps you put your entire musical palette in fr...

    Nobody wants to buy such a cheap keyboard. Could you make it more expensive please? Have you thought about thick gold plating? Maybe cover it with gems? Maybe have each board individually decorated by Sacha Jafri? 😹

    This video was amazing. I love the lumatone, it's art and engineering blended together. However I find it reaaally difficult to accept microtonal music after decades of being taught that those notes are "wrong"

    • @lumatone
      @lumatone 8 дней назад

      As Amelia says, microtonality is just a new option that Lumatone opens up, but it really is still a remarkable instrument if you want to stay within the bounds of the standard 12-tone tuning.

    Amelia has Two Lumatones? What is the advantage of this? Apart from that observation, great video. I'm looking forward to when I will have my own lumatone to play with next year. I think there is a place for mathematics and geekiness in music though. We probably wouldn't have instruments like this and a lot of early low tech instrument innovations without a certain amount of it. It just shouldn't be dominant. It should be the servant rather than the master of intuitive creativity and beauty.
