I'm a massive music fan and have been collecting vinyl since the days when it cost less than CDs. Sometimes I talk about what I like and share insights I've had. Sometimes I sell stuff on Discogs. Giant Orange Records is also the parent company of my band The Electric Splash, and you can dig our music here: www.youtube.com/@theelectricsplash7384

I, too, showed live White Stripes but a different album. Great stuff. Really rad records.
AIP always does a good job with comps so I gotta check out those Electric Sugar Cubes, air force sound effects sounds like a good one, gotta love the Electric Prunes, Sonics, and Devo, awesome finds, cheers!
Just now connected the dots that AIP is the label that released Pebbles and Highs in the Mid Sixties. So yeah their comps should be pretty good. Yeah, these last 2 years I've found as much good vinyl as I have in the last 10 years it seems. And you are the king of the Sonics releases in the vinyl community it seems! I'm just getting started. I had them on my ipod way back in the day and was just floored when I discovered The Sonics.
@@giantorangerecords I did have the advantage of being from the NW in finding sonics records, they've always been pretty scarce and most copies you find in the wild have partied pretty hard, the last one I found was at least 8 years ago. I havn't run across once since then
that is the best response to the beatles or stones argument, love that Weeds record, nice list, cheers!
@@ADMx2545 thanks Adam! It’s always a silly question, but when it must be answered I’m ready. That Weeds record is so good! Thanks for stopping by!
Great answers to the tag. Nice to see Olivia Tremor Control get some love in the VC! Just subbed! Cheers☘️
@@ShamrocknRecords awesome, thanks Brian! I could really feature The Olivia Tremor Control a lot more often. I’m not sure why more people aren’t talking about them.
Cool, I didn't know that the Royal Guardsmen were from Ocala.
@@christopherkibler511 yep. I actually spent a lot of time in Ocala when I was a kid. There was a great water park with slides we used to go to.
Wow! great stuff....so much kool stuff to check out... thanks!!
I'm 58. I've been listening to vinyl for 40 odd years. I've got some rare vinyl, picked up when it was cheap to buy and not realising it was rare. I've only ever bought what I wanted to listen to and never bought purely to sell on. I am at a point where I'd like some albums that were released in 2024, but as prices of new vinyl has risen, I've not done so. With children, a long term ill wife, a job that takes up a lot of my time, I don't get to listen to my collection as much as I'd like, and when I do, it has to be through headphones. I'm seriously thinking about selling off a fair chunk of my collection to buy a classic car to drive with my son. I have multiple copies of some albums, on both vinyl and CD. DSOTM and Tubular Bells spring to mind. I can only play one at a time! It does become a problem. I'm going to a record fair on Saturday, so I'll see whats there. I look for bootlegs more so thesedays as most studio recordings I have. And I never clean them, just store them well and they sound just as good as when I bought them!
Selling duplicates is a good idea! I don't do it as much as I should but never regret it when I do.
Aaah u like using the Meat Puppets album cover for the blue background
@@MKtheC I guess? I’m not really sure, that was just something I painted a while ago.

Back From The Grave! Tim Warren's da man!
@@tomc7434 yes, such a brilliant concept and theme. Love those incredible ‘60s punk comps.
Nicely done! I have a collection (approx. 2,300 LPs and 3,500 CDs), but I do not consider myself a "collector" per se. Date of press, country of origin, color variations, etc. mean nothing to me, as the music is the most important element. Though I will make sure the LP/CD and cover are in good condition, and I do not want cut-outs. I recently did a purge of 500-600 CDs in anticipation of an impending move, but I gave all of them away to friends as record stores give you virtually nothing for them. I'd rather throw them out than accept $0.50 - $1.00 from a buyer who will mark them up considerably once they are in their possession. Not sure I've ever gone 30 days without buying something, but I commend you on your success in going 29 days. You didn't say, but I was wondering if you felt you missed out on anything, or if this is going to alter your music purchases moving forward? Cheers!
@@AisForAliceBisForBob you make some good points here. Yes, the music is the most important aspect. I also give away a lot of albums, though I also trade for store credit as needed for more expensive items. I should definitely do a big purge at some point. I don’t feel like I missed out by not buying anything for 30 days since I have so many albums I’ve only played once. It takes me a while to go through all the music I do have. I also haven’t bought any albums this December. My next step will be curating a collection of just the essentials and trimming the fat, or stuff that I just don’t listen to anymore.
no clue what any of that stuff is, doubt anyone does
@@fizzlebomber674 I will go out on a limb and say The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are pretty well-known.

Right on! Thanks for stopping by! That's awesome about finding an OG Sonics! I didn't know those really existed. I'm a huge Syd fan. Looks you have a ton of pressings of Piper At The Gates. Glad to find another member of the vinyl community with similar tastes! I'll take a look around your channel.
Damn one more comment! LoL! I have that Hate Bombs LP and they’re so awesome Killer garage revival! Love it! ✌️👽
yeah, The Hate Bombs are cool! I got to see their reunion show in Orlando many years ago. That was such a great gig. Glad you were able to score a copy. So much good music out there!
Dude we can fight against our vinyl urges but it always ends up being fruitless LoL! Your roadtrip garnered some killer finds! I do like that Knickerbockers LP even tho it’s very Beatlesque which is in no way a deal breaker for me. I have that Gants record and I used to play the shite out of it. They were some young cats who chose to further their education rather than pursue a career in music. Sonics are top shelf garage Great pick there! That Uniques LP looks cool! Man I’d love to find that Gordian Knot LP! Big Star! Buzzcocks are so great! The Damned have so many wild albums that go beyond their punk origins. Def gonna check out the Losin Streaks! That live footage was amazing! I love it when a band gives their all even to a smaller crowd! Did I notice their on the Slovenly label? They put out some great garage punk. I do that same thing when I don’t know about an album I take a pic and stream later Glad to know I’m not the only crate digger that uses that formula! Wow great pick up on the Tiffany Shade! CA Quintet is a wild ride! Love it! I am def a fan of Ty Segall! Carrying the torch for uniquely styled RnR! I really enjoy that Pu$$y LP! Those Highs in the Mid Sixties are hard to find! I have like 20 volumes Yeah I found a honey hole and bought em all for $10 a pop! Dude you scored some amazing freaking records This was a brilliant roadtrip story! Peace ✌️👽 Too many great albums to comment on them all! Check out Merrel F’s Fapardokly bands LP It’s a great listen!
Thanks for checking in Cosmic Brian! Yeah, I couldn't believe all the awesome stuff I found out there. Athens truly is a music town. Th' Losin' Streaks are on Slovenly and gosh do those guys know a lot of about music! Super fun show and so glad I got to see a band from that lives so far away. I've been meaning to check out the Fapardokly and I'll say the main reason I even got the blind buy on the '80s Fankhauser is because I'm such a massive fan of the HMS Bounty LP, which is a pretty expensive one nowadays. But man, this trip will give me music to sift through for years to come. It's going to take a while to unpack all those LPs. I've listened to a few a coupla times, but mostly just gave each one a quick spin. The Tiffany Shade and CA Quintet are really awesome. Prob going to have to Discogs some of the Highs in the Mid Sixties stuff.
Warren Zevon is a must.
Once you entire identity becomes your "COLLECTION"...it's time to reassess one's life priorities. I think you are asking all the right questions. What hole do these items fill in our lives? What are we really chasing when we chase "GRAILS"? Learn what really brings joy into your life, and chase that instead of shiny objects that don't bring any sort of actual happiness.
It's part of my identity, but certainly not all of it. I'd say my biggest priorities are family and music, and vinyl happens to be my preferred and best sounding way to listen to music. But I also need to feed my family and spend quality time with my son. Sometimes we sit and listen to records together and that's great. I'm also a musician, and maybe this takes away from practicing guitar, vocals or piano, but maybe it helps in some ways. I guess it's an identity crisis of sorts. But yes, objects don't bring you joy, doing meaningful activities does.
@@giantorangerecords What brings you the most joy when you think about it? That's what you should focus on. Something that is not only fun, but also helps others in some way. I also love collecting stuff, and treasure my vinyl, but I try not to let it become my life. Its more like a fun part of who I am, but not something I allow to cause anxiety in my life. Its all about finding the perfect balance. I think you are halfway there....GOOD LUCK!
@ that’s awesome, really good point. I need to stop going overboard with this stuff, and I have as of late.

@@fizzlebomber674 good question. Perhaps an impossible quest to hear all the music that was ever made.
Enjoyed your video and travelogue! :)
Thank you for watching! This has helped me realize I need to travel more often. It's good for the soul.
Sonics. I found an OG 45 of the Witch. Makes sense living in the NW. I purged 23 LPs and 45s and then proceeded to buy 4 "new" "punk" records which only cost 20 tota on DG. How I had restraint is beyond me. Maybe time won't let me!
That's incredible! What a find! The Sonics were awesome, and I imagine they probably had more of a following in the Pacific NW.
I have been there before. You have to get to a point where you need to change. It is the most stressful feeling I have dealt with personally. I think you will have more fun if you expand the kinds of music you listen to. I actually started having a great time once I started adding CDs into my rotation with my vinyl. I dont feel bad about spending too much because well, CDs, especially used are rather cheap. If there is an album I want to hear I will get a CD, and if I absolutely love it, then I will get it on vinyl. I was so wrapped up in which records are first press and all of that, but the real reason I like music in general is because its fun to listen to! After sitting there and thinking about why I collect music in the first place. What I realized is that all I actually want is the highest quality playback I can humanly hear. This has made it easier for me, because now I wont buy cheap used records.
@@ZacharyFabiano good to hear! My last few CD players have had issues, so I need to keep looking for one. I have tons of CDs, and while not as fun as vinyl, any music from the 1990s almost has to be heard on CD.

I have no other hobbies, so buying records is my main thing. I have almost 2000 lps, over 3300 45s and 400 12"singles. Plus around 500 CDs. I love music. Buying newer albums has slowed because of the price being close to $50 each, i still find some artists releasing under $30..but very few. Also im not a fan of most of todays popluar artists. I have a select few. I look for albums finally getting pressed on vinyl from the 90s early 2000s. For the most part i have everything else from the late 70s and all the 80s. Once in a great while something will pop up at a record store or fair that i forgot about and if its decently priced , i buy it. Last month we had a record fair in my city and found 10 albums (2 of which were replacements of my old worn out copies) and i only spent $18 for all. Too many people are gouging consumers and there are those who have unlimited spending, which i dont. No used album is worth $50 no matter who pressed it, which pressing it is 1st, 2nd ,20th. Less than 7 years ago i ordered uk only pressings of many 90s albums, or other countries and paid under 5 euros and shipping was cheap. Now those albums are priced over 30 to 150 euros. And international shipping is outrageous these days. I dont think any record store trying to stay afloat would tell you to stop buying. We are into the holidays and my money just needs to go towards other things. Besides that NOTHING good is being pressed at this time.
@@JJ-qs9hu wow, that’s good to know, thanks for sharing! Prices have gotten insane.
Due to the steep climb in record prices over the years, I stopped buying records in 2020. I have to be content with the 800 LPs and a few hundred singles I own. I occasionally buy a CD every few months, and that is about it. Otherwise just do some free streaming.
@@hawaiifiles that’s awesome! And how is that going, just cycling through what you already have?
@@giantorangerecords Not bad at all. There are all kinds of media formats for people to listen to music with. The music is more important than the media it is delivered on. Access... cost... value.
Lots of truth in the video for those of us who've been collecting for years. I somehow managed to hang onto 70% of my formative vinyl collection and in good condition (seriously, I have records I've had since 1984 that play better than records I get off Discogs graded VG+). I got back into collecting just before the current boom so it's distressing to see so many records that should be sold for $10, $15 going for $30, $40 or more. Lots of records over graded. Just recently I had an online friendship with a dude who had over 4000 records and we were great friends and had similar tastes and opinions. We shared records, and did swaps in the mail. He died this summer and in a lot of ways that took the wind out of my sails. I see prices coming down ever so slightly, stuff on my wishlist coming up more often, but I just can't justify it. So I'm trying to hold the line. Listen to more of what I have.
@@PufferTube so sorry to hear about your friend passing. Thanks for watching and sharing your story in the comments. I’ve really learned a lot from some of these comments from folks who have been doing this longer than I have.
Dude, you have some killer records, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band are a firm favourite. I halved my record collection and its now more of a revolving door. I try to mint up but also, when i find a new killer record, it makes some of the records i own in the same genre just that bit lamer so i tend to have mini clear outs at least once a year. Ever evolving but never getting out of band like it used to do
@@anthonynyland1527 thanks, West Coast Pop Art is a favorite of mine. That’s a good idea with the semi-annual clear outs. Thanks for the kind words!
I used to have 2 The Doors albums in rice paper from Japan from a Vietnam Vet. Ex wife got them. Best place to buy records is at goodwill or salvation army, only 1.00-2.00 each.
That's an interesting Doors pressing. I used to find a lot more good records at thrift stores. But I know they are still out there, you just have to look more often and be more selective, especially with condition.
Thrift store LPs generally smell like musty mildew. If you keep them in your house...your good records will end up stinking, too.
@ I try to stay away from mildew of smokey smelling ones. I’m very sensitive to smell. Also, plastic outer sleeves probably help.
@@BubblesJrJr All you have to do is clean them with alcohol, or put them in a box with a couple of cotton balls soaked in Frebreeze.
Use that time to, perhaps, upgrade your audio equipment or save up money for other projects?
I guess I need a Thorens and Marantz until I'm an audiophile? I like my Technics SL-1200 paired with a Kenwood KA-2500 receiver. I have a Sherwood that needs to be restored. One shop charged me $200 to change one part and it's still blowing up power tubes. So I just use what I have that works. Or I could invest in merch for my band.
I have been to both stores, like them both. Hey PSL has a good record store too, Sounds Good Music.
You are correct! I talk about Sounds Good in many of my videos, and this one highlights some great finds from there: ruclips.net/video/_vZk9kSOoBI/видео.html
You're a good writer. Happy trails!
Thank you for the kind words! This was a more scripted and thought out video, and I think this VO style video works better than just me sitting in a chair rambling about stuff.
@giantorangerecords it was informative as well as entertaining. A great combination.
@@michaelmuncy3593 many thanks, so glad to hear this!
Time for a new hobby -- Ripping your collection to high quality lossless digital format. It will give you en excuse to listen to your records, all of them. It will still give you something to spend money on (hard drives).
@@DrewKane interesting take. I streamed a lot of music on my phone today thru the hifi, and while the sound was pretty good I sure missed the handling of the record, having to look at a screen, and not being able to see the artwork full size. Minor problems I suppose, but the process is a lot less fun.
That Gandalf record is such a 60s gem. I’m waiting on the same variant of it in the mail :)
@@rockisrad3088 it’s up there with the best, def a collector-grade psych album.
I tried to listen to my entire collection in a year. Anything I didn’t want to listen to after a year of playing 2 records a day became a serious candidate to sell. I have around 450 but I’ll not looking to fill more than a Kallax so need to start thinning the herd.
@@jazzblasterrr that’s an awesome idea! I’ll def need to do something like that. I know that I go in phases with genres and artists.
I say it like this. If you're peaking over 1000 records strong you're just doing it for the numbers at that point. I'm over 40 and can't think of over 400-500 albums between cassette, vinyl, cd, or even digital computer library albums combined that I'd want to have on vinyl primarily. A complete sit down and decision really needs to be made what you should and shouldn't keep. If you have records that you simple haven't touched in over a year, is a good tell tale sign if you need them or not.
@@Kaspurr84 a year is almost too soon. It’s the only way I listen to music at home. The last few CD players I have bought used ended up not working and skip. Vinyl is at least reliable. But yes, maybe 500-1,000 for a collection is good.
@@giantorangerecords How is it possible to like all these albums? If I count all my cds and vinyls together I don't think I have even 100 albums, I've been looking for videos about getting rid of albums, because I'm throwing out all the albums I don't listen to. I haven't found a music de-cluttering video yet, but several with these mind boggling huge collections. Am I just extremely picky about what albums I like and want?
@@lonewolf8667 You've got to be willing to keep expanding your horizons. I've been alive for a pretty long time and I've seen a lot of live bands and listened to a lot of records. I have a ton of friends who know a lot about music and share their knowledge with me while I keep seeking out music I have not heard yet.
@@giantorangerecords Thanks to Tidal, Bandcamp and RUclips music I listen to new music everyday. Before I got streaming service (very late, 2023) I used to blind buy cds at thrift shops. For me just relaying on streaming services have been more efficient way to find music I like. I used to go to concerts, but it had to be bands artists I knew I liked because for my income concerts are expensive.
If you can’t listen to it, don’t buy it.
@@ThiKu good thinking!
I stopped when I realized I have 1/4 to 1/3 I haven't listened to in backlog. I go back through them and "I HAVE this??" is said a lot. So..I treat my shelves like the store instead.
That's a smart thing to do. I'm about in the same boat, though I do tend to listen to most of the records within a day or two of going to a record store. But then I forget about them because of all the new records.
I scratched an RL SS into my Led Zeppelin II reissue and it sounds so good now, like really loud. Just put it on Discogs for $1200
@@Pluralofvinylisvinyls Karma is going to get you for that!
Upgrade your gear, dude Jesus. Having a cooler collection than the setup that plays them is corny af.
I like my gear. What's wrong with a Technics Sl-1200 TT and a Kenwood KA-2500 (with two dedicated phono inputs) and some Energy tower speakers? It sounds pretty good to me, especially for what it cost, but if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.
That’s an absurd premise! I’m 42 been collecting since I was 15 years old. My record collection now has med value of around $50,000 and almost 90’000 plus on the high end. My gear is extremely modest. I’ve probably spent less than $1000 on it total in my life . For me first and foremost it’s always been about music. The gear is secondary. I have a decent micro line stylus but other than it’s basic. And I’m very happy. One day I may upgrade.
@@bigsweetc6 getting decent hifi equipment def sounds good, but I've found that I don't have to break the bank. My gear prob adds up to $500 give or take. It sounds good to me. Could it sound better? Maybe? But that's not a major concern for me right now.
Nah, once your set-up is good sounding to you, the records are more important after that. Usually the people that are more concerned about their gear, have the lamest collections.
@@pauly1013 you can be certain they’ll have multiple copies of Steely Dan… 😂
You totally got me. I have almost the same situation here with records and old film prints. My work as a creative freelancer could be better. (Also my happiness in general.) And though I don't blame my collections - these collecting habits might be a problem.
@@theobald_tiger it’s a strange phenomenon and I have to slow down before it gets worse. Thanks for watching!
Oh, man! You're putting your fingers all over the records. You should never put your fingers on the grooves!
I have a Discwasher, and I generally grab them by the outer edge and center label, not on the grooves. Maybe I need to get some nitrile gloves and a lab coat.
No Raw Power or Nevermind The Bullocks?
I showed another Stooges album, I guess I could've shown all three, but I gotta save something fort Part 2! And I just don't like The Sex Pistols that much, so I don't have them on vinyl.
