Visible Mending: How to Add Slow Stitched Patches and Repair with Love
Support my channel and get early access to my videos, with bonus content here: ko-fi.com/misti_ko
Discover the beauty of visible mending. In this video, we explore the world of slow stitching, where repair becomes a creative act. Learn how to give new life to your favorite garments by adding patches with bold stitches, interesting patterns, and heartfelt artistry.
Visible mending celebrates imperfection and sustainability, turning worn-out fabric into a canvas for creativity.
I'll show you how I add patches to fabric to mend holes in clothes, and also sometimes just to add a bit of decoration.
I'll also briefly touch on "darning" or mending holes without adding a patch.

The pink project, I wouldn't be surprised if you pulled it of, but it seems kind of difficult..Personally I find pink a difficult colour. Inspiring as always though. Thanks❤️☺️

    I'm having a hard time finding a good sharp needle, any suggestions?

    • @mistikomakes
      @mistikomakes 4 дня назад

      I don’t usually bother too much about what needle I use. A few things to try. Use natural fibres (cotton, wool, linen, silk). Polyester fibres dull needles quickly. Use less densely woven cloth. I don’t usually have a problem getting a needle through most quilting cottons, but some other cottons meant for dress shirts and other clothing seem harder to hand sew.

    In 'Ice Bound' by Jerri Nielsen, she tells of a co-worker who wears shorts all the time, even in Antarctica. So, tell your hubs that he is a PIKER - LOL!

    • @mistikomakes
      @mistikomakes 4 дня назад

      Oh, I remember her story. I was so impressed and at the same time terrified for her. What is a piker?

    • @Gothlite-i1l
      @Gothlite-i1l 4 дня назад

      @@mistikomakes A piker is someone who gambles with small amounts of money or who does things in a small way. Just kidding about the hubs, of course, because I had on three layers and a coat when I walked across the street to the supermarket an hour ago. It was 32 degrees but not -32, but you can tell what kind of a piker *I* am. Sadly, Dr. Nielsen lost her battle with further cancer. I highly recommend her book.

      @mistikomakes 4 дня назад

      Ha ha about the piker! I'm the same as you. It's just freezing here 0C or +32F, and sunny, but I need wool socks, gloves, a scarf and a coat to go outside. Sorry to hear about Dr Nielsen. I bet the book is a good read though.

    Hi, I’m from Pinetop, Arizona. I have been enjoying your videos so much. Other channels have so many rules on how to do some slow stitching. I’m not a great rule follower when it came to hand stitching. It’s so great when so say it’s OK if it’s not perfect, it’s perfect for me. I have been playing with my stitches and having so much fun. Again, thank you. Have a great day 😊

      Always a pleasure to meet someone who also has trouble with “rules”. It was such a relief to me when I realized that my way isn’t wrong, just different. It does take a lot of self confidence to show something less than perfect in public. You have a great day too. I bet it’s warmer in Arizona than in Canada right now.

    The WI first happened on Ynys Mon Cymru before England also embraced it. Unfortunately despite starting as a bilingual group the UK wide group decided Cymraeg should not be used so we set up Merched yr Wawr instead. Both still flourish. Dr Who is now based in Caerdydd and used to drive me mad when they used my small steep coblestone road for filming making daily life schedules hazardous but the episode you refer to was indeed back in the olden days. Nice fox but I bet the pub had another name not so long ago as foxes were not popular except as usefull victims for hunting toffs

    Very cute little pouch! I'm going to make one to hold my garden scroll if I ever finish it! And interesting about the bias tape. I didn't know one side was slightly longer than the other. About twenty years ago I bought a little metal device that lets me make my own bias tape, but it is exactly the same on both sides, so I do have to be careful when I'm stitching so that I catch both edges. I bought it because I used to make aprons for our employees every year, and I would make the bias tape out of the same fabric as the apron. I know you wanted to know that. 😀

    Thank you so much for not repeating what you've already done (running stitch, in this case)! I have seen so many artists do the same thing over and over again "for the newbies". Well, guess what, newbies can look up a previous vid on the subject - just because the viewer is a newbie to a channel doesn't mean they are new to computers, and programs, and how to search. It's like that stupid question that so many ask after demonstrating a technique: "Does that make sense?" Of course it makes sense! Stop talking down to the audience and stop pandering to the lowest common denominator. Two of my pet peeves and the main reason I unsubscribe from many channels.

    • @mistikomakes
      @mistikomakes 25 дней назад

      Thanks for the feedback.That's exactly why I made a separate video about the basic stitch. It's always hard to balance giving too much vs too little detail. Good to know about the "does that make sense". I know I say that from time to time, mainly because sometimes I'm not actually making any sense in my own head!

    I learned to weave after my sister passed away and I ended up with her floor loom. I took classes and was learning all about twill, overshot, ect... There always seemed to be only one way to do these styles (according to the instructor). Then one day I learned about Saori. I drove to a to a nearby town and was given an introduction to this style. Holy Mother of God what an eye opener. That little spirit in me that felt so restricted by warp and weft has been set free. I now have room in my life for both types of weaving styles (as well as tapestry, peg, and weaving on flat rocks). Creativity is So very FUN.

    • @mistikomakes
      @mistikomakes 25 дней назад

      I know that’s how I felt when I discovered Saori. It’s like someone justified the way I’d always done things, but always felt like I was doing it wrong. We really do have a lot in common. Do you know of a weaver/ embroidery artist named Anita Mayer? I think she lives in Coupeville. Her books were hugely inspiring to me when I first started weaving

      Thank you. Yes Sharon has seen it I posted it on the TAST Facebook group. Yours could easily be just as lovely, if you believe it can be
