Thanks for watching. Yes the newer model has improved both DC and AC charging. That's why it's always a good idea to future proof when buying leads/chargers and go the next level up, if you can afford it of course. Even with my 2020 model I still bought a 22kw type 2 to type 2 lead and a 22kw portable home charger (EVSE) so if/when I upgrade the MG and/or move to a new house with 3 phase (or travelling) I am all set. I have been using the Otto Cast U2 Air Pro for a few days on my EV6 and it connected up very quickly (you need to establish a Bluetooth connection to the unit) and it does everything else very seamlessly. Got it on Amazon during Prime Day for $84 but it’s regularly that price from what I can tell outside Prime Day. This unit just does the regular Car Play / Android Auto functions (no Netflix etc) but it connects VERY quickly. Otto Cast do have several units including a video streaming one, but as a driver I wasn’t interested in those. From what I can see it works so well you forget it’s there. 👍

Anyway, someone could take this info and try and gleem it's education for us, who live in the United Sates? as someone new to the EV car charging marketplace, one thing that I wonder about is, are the charging networks charging the same exact rate in all 50 States, or can it vary from state to state? it seems unfair to me, to think for example That Tesla or Charge Point, etc..charge the same rate for EV charging in New Mexico or SouthDakota, or other far less urban population centers in those states, as opposed to heavy densely populated states like New York or California ?

also worth mentioning that with an extension cable (or any cable in use for high wattage usage), not to have it coiled up, make an S back and forth or a figure 8. It creates an induction coil when coiled, I have done that with a 2000w light and after 40min it popped a fuse and the cable was super hot. Also it's good you talked about constant load. In the usa their nema 14-50 plugs are melting because they are the regular ones and not the high quality ones, they are used for dryers but people are plugging in evs. They are learning that the electrical code is not rating things for constant loads and only intermittent loads

I have 6.4kW of solar, and generate an average of 32kWh per day (in Melbourne). I also have a 13.5 kWh Tesla PowerWall2 battery, which is generally enough to run the house all night. Any power over and above what we need to fill the battery during the day goes straight into our Tesla Model 3. So we get free power for the house basically all day and night, and free driving for around 400km. It is a win win situation. If you have a house, add solar like the other 3.6 million homes that already have it. You won't regret it.

Good video Greg. It would have been good to mention the cheaper EV electricity plans for electricity used to charge an EV during off-peak hours. Multiple electricity retailers now offer these EV plans. Most of these plans charge 8 cents/kWh, but at least one charges 4 cents/kWh, and Ovo even provide free electricity from 11 am until 2 pm. I'm with Origin and I pay 8 cents/kWh - so a full charge would cost me around $4.80, which equals ~$1.06 in electricity to drive 100 kms. I charge during the day when there is the highest amount of renewable energy (solar) in the grid.

Good video for the Newbies. Extension leads are an excellent topic. Like yourself I use a 15A rated lead with the 1.5mm copper. Works well with the Tesla 10A "tail". Limited to 10m like you suggested. It's worth testing the temp at the socket to make sure resistance isn't getting out of control. Slightly warm to touch is usually OK. With the Tesla EVSE, the included 10A and 15A adapters have temp sensors in them so you do lose a little overtemp backup with an extension lead as the EVSE can't detect the temp at the 10A outlet. It does look either the EVSE or car's charger will drop the current if voltage drop is high.

I ended up with a Mach-e Select (LFP 470k) such a beautiful and well-thought out EV; with recent price drops was still $10k more than the MY RWD, but then was every bit $10k more worth and refinement. Saying goodby to my ZS EV Essence (LFP 320k) has been flawless, but the Mach-e is a whole other ballgame. I will say that I’d never to back to NMC chemistry after having owned both over the years & am still surprised that most of these expensive EVs in AU only use NMC (looking at you BMW, Audi, Volvo, Renault etc etc). Seriously, how can a certain WLTP range be cited when the car can only be charged to 80% most of the time? Then there’s the charging faffing about, 100% every six weeks or so, battery balancing, certainly more range loss in winter, apparently greater degradation over time, etc. With the change up to my ZS EV SR LFP, literally all of that went away, charge to 100% as I liked. Only BYD seems to have committed to LFP-only across the range, but then with the possible exception of the Seal, I find most of those cars a little cheap & nasty (especially interiors) along with the implementation of sw features & often botched OTA updates. No doubt in the near future much of this will seem very dated once we see new alternatives to battery chemistry & most likely from Chinese companies like CATL & BYD (eg Sodium, enhanced LFP, Solid State etc). Back to the Mach-e, I found it a no-brainer. Got into it for $45k with trade, accessories, protection etc. Also shows a level of refinement put into it in the five US years before released in AU, another update coming in the 25 Model with a new electric motor from the f150 Lightning along with other refinements, models and ongoing OTAs that actually work (looking at you BYD & Volvo) as well as the FordPAss app. Yes, much of that ecosystem may be borrowed from Tesla, but the car itself is far beyond that. Also pleasantly surprised just how good and how well developed the Ford network is in AU - and especially in comparison to others like Tesla & BYD. Another no-brainer again I guess.

No idea if 5G is a contributing factor here, but I can tell you that shopping centre has both Optus and Vodafone 5G via what is known as a distributed antenna system (DAS), therefore it is quite possible that an antenna was located close to your vehicle, usually mounted to the ceiling but they are very low tx power - probably not the 'powerful' signals you refer to.

Your information around the BYD seal sedan EOFY sale is incorrect. MY23 relates to when the current model went on sale in Australia, and the current cycle of the vehicle, not when the vehicle was manufactured. My seal sedan is an MY23 but manufactured in January 2024. The MY23 will remain until the current vehicle receives an update or refresh depending on what year this happens. All Seal sedans on sale are manufactured in 2024.

Nope, not when I was researching for the video. I get the feeling Volvo are doing a good job of matching supply and demand and don't have a lot of excess inventory. If your 10 amp charger was mounted in the front of your car then you can plug straight into any wall plug in front of your car and trickle charge 23hrs every day. Most vehicles are parked 23hrs every day. Say 500mm of plug lead available only. Then if you forget to unplug as you back out of your park space the plug would just be pulled straight out. Ezi pezi 😊😊 A $60 installed wall plug.

Put the charger in the frunk and run the disposable cheap extension lead out the front under the bonnet. Just my thinking. The extension of the idea is to supply the home, by a good industrial designed bumper plug and have selfplug-in V2G like the home robotic vacuum cleaner. Hahaha Hahaha 👍

Every recharge looks like a petrol bowser hose. And has the familiar feel. Horse and cart thinking. First auto mobiles looked like Horse carriages. Some keep going to induction charging complexities and $ solutions. KISS. Keep it simple. Most vehicles are parked 23hrs every day. Rapid charges will be on the main roads and at corner stores and community batteries. If needed. I can imagine in emergency conditions driving to the community battery and filling up to run the home, Hahaha

I saw one that was still alive numerous cars parked all over the grassland.. now they just spread further ..I reported some at Oxenford.before xmas later they showed up2 days latter.. after the rain the nest was gone the nests have multiple queens.. I feel sorry for the person's dog that will die from a multiple bites stings..i heard a mates friend had anaphylactic shock at emergency, from multiple stings.. I tested the sting on my thumb..yea 9 to 10 ,,out 10 on pain , like a stronger green ant pus a wasp combined..and leaves a welt for 2-4 days.the reporting hotline is clunky..and as if the oldies are going to log it in.. 26:19
