Steam Around The World - Asia and Australasia
In this programme, Harry Dodge has captured the incredible variety of Asian steam, commencing in India with Bengali broad and narrow gauge steam, the exquisite Darjeeling Railway ( considered by many to be the world’s finest railway ) , Jaipur’s meter gauge system, and locomotives ranging from the Pacific to a Maharajah’s private train. This is contrasted with Japanese preserved steam, the wood burning loco’s of Thailand, Indonesian tank engines and Malaysian light steam. While in Australia and New Zealand we find an equally delightful assortment of gauges and rolling stock. This rare archive steam footage lovingly captured on 16mm film by the famous American rail enthusiast , Harry P. Dodge

This shows dramatically that railways of the Victorian era, were not built in a straight line and had a low average speed design ...well done the u .k.govt. for modernisation of the railway network !!!!! Oh they were to busy with establishing british leyland and TAX on cars built ..such careing institutions that take our money in the name of taxes ...oops its not our money , after all the money states the bearer on the note ....

Why on earth take away an electrified efficient cross pennine route after spending so much money on it? It doesn't make sense, it would make economic sense if there were intention and purpose to do so. It could be 25kv OLE compatible by now. The central northern England East/West route modernised to maximum effect. A backward step to close it.

Thank you so much for this Alan. Been a naval history buff for a number of years but I've never come across your content before and it is superb. I knew about these ships histories but I'd never seen so much fantastic footage. I only recently learned that the maintenance carriers used pontoons to transfer badly damaged aircraft onboard and here we are with your footage of Pioneer and Unicorn doing just that! I'm amazed you don't have a lot more views. Would it be okay to recommend your video to a few fellow naval history buffs?

Sorry but the Sydney Harbour Bridge never carried steam trains on a regular basis for it was completed on 1932 and Sydney's suburban railways were electrified in 1928. Hawkesbury River bridge is on the line from Sydney to Brisbane in Queensland not Melbourne in Victoria. It was never a target for Japanese bombers as they only got as far as Darwin in the Northern Territory which is at the top of Australia. Steam bowed out in New South Wales on the 4th March 1973 but private railway steam operations continued with the South Maitland Railway using 10 class 2-8-2 tank locos until 1983 and the nearby Richmond Vale Railway used the same class until 1987. The whole class of 14 locos have been preserved.

Did you say 16 escort carriers, 12 cruisers and 40 destroyers in the Eastern fleet? The BPF had 9 escort carriers. I didn't know Britain had so many escort carriers unless they were swapped back and forth between the fleets.

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabled viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Remember the " Singing Break man " Jimmie Rogers. Whom was a genuine break man till switching careers to a singing entertainer🎸🎶 one ( 1926 thru 1933 ) most memorable song " Break man's Blues "😭. Steam locomotives remind me of American train robber " Icon " Butch Cassidy and associates. (1896 thru 1901 ) Never robbed/molested passengers/R.R. employees. Focusing on the express car💰💰💰😉. Had the good fortune to experience 2 steam locomotive scenic tours. Smoky mountains North Carolina & the Durango & Silverton excursions. Quality relaxing experience bar none-!!!😉. Viewing this presentation from the comfort zone of my computer room. Along the " Space Coast " 🚀 of Florida🐊🐊. Wishing viewers & R.R. employees a safe/healthy/prosperous ( 2024 ) 🌈🎉😉.

National Grid have stated that the high voltage cables are clipped to the side of the tunnel, and there is no reason why single or duble tracks cannot be installed for trains. Even if the tunnels were unexpectedly found to be unsuitable for trains, then the cables could be relocated to a smaller cable tunnel at minimal cost, as in the London area.

I didn't do very well at High School as my classroom on the third floor up New North Road, HUDDERSFIELD had a panoramic view of the eastern approach to Huddersfield Railway Station and Leeds Road Football ground. I marveled at the endless coal trains heading west, (spewing copious amounts of C02 to make our planet greener) the new 'Peaks' and the new Trans Pennine DMU's. I have since educated myself to a much better degree through the fascination of the world around me than any school could ever do. A great Uncle in my family worked for the L & Y, LNWR, LMS and BR. I talked to him about the railway when he was over 100 years old. I attended his funeral in my BR Guards uniform as a mark of respect as my employers didn't give a shit about a great man that spent his entire life in the service of and in the development of the railways. William Briggs. R.I.P.

In the 1950-'s I lived almost next to Old Roan station. The morning (9:00 am) train from Exchange to Glasgow was routinely double headed, often by a Black Five and a Clan class BR standard. Always remember hearing those chime whistles... The evening train back to Exchange, was usually headed by a Scot or a "Jub". HLI (Highland Light Infantry) was a regular. Happy days!

A fascinating and sad to see these routes being shut down, and any hope of restoring them scattered to the wind, as they sell off the track bed to developers/land owners, ensuring future use impossible. Men's livelyhoods and communities being snuffed out by the "uneconomical" argument put forward by those who profited most. This is where the capitalist face shows its uncaring side in sharp relief.

Look at the state of the track at New Brighton, full of ltter, the track is like that everytime I get off at that station. Railway lines are some of the worst places for litter. Where are the council picking it up?.
