Scanlan's departure went extremely differently in the campaign, and while I understand why they changed it (they didn't know if they would get a fourth season, and Sam had to get cancer treatment and didn't know how that was going to go), it feels like a disservice to the brilliance of the character and the original moment.

I interpret the less climactic and more muted nature of the songs to be in alignment with the more muted nature of the land of the dead. It just makes sense to me.

Season 2 was more about gathering the Vestages and exploring the characters to give weight to season 3. Also, the Thordak defeat really encompased more of the season with the exploritory incursion, the attack on Whitestone, so his defeat was more of a ln arc. In the campaign Scanlan actually died, his coma came after being resurrected it turned into a huge character arc. It was much loved by most critters, though it fell flat for me, but I'min a very small minority.

I'm so happy you made it to the end! It's been a pleasure watching your reactions and your wonderful analysis. I can't wait to watch your Percy and Vex video and anything else you make. I also look forward to your Arcane reactions! I've immensely enjoyed your journey from "okay they're cute" to full on Perc'ahlia shipper. I haven't seen the campaign, but they captured my heart and wouldn't let go. The wait between episodes 7-9 and 10-12 while the season was airing was extremely difficult and I cheered and cried when Percy came back. I've never loved a couple as much as them. They're too special for words. The music when Keyleth defeats Raishan sounds like the music from Keyleth's big moment at the ziggurat because it's the same theme. One of my favorite things about this show that's not often talked about is the soundtrack and the extensive use of leitmotif. Keyleth, Vax, and Percy in particular have several themes associated with them, but most of the main characters, as well as the villains and some important places, have their own themes that really add a lot of depth to the soundtrack and the experience of watching the show in general. It's quite fun to spot them on a rewatch. I totally agree with your thoughts on Vax and Vex learning to be apart from one another. It's something I was hoping for since season 2 and I love their journey to get there. Even at the beginning of season 3 they're more able to be apart, but by the end they're finally pursuing lives outside of each other, while still having their close bond, and it makes me very happy. I'm still undecided on Pike for now, but I think we're not meant to have all the answers yet, so I'll try to withhold judgement until season 4. This might be a mildly spicy take here but I'm glad that Scanlan didn't leave the group the same way he did in the campaign, because I don't think the show created a precedent for it to happen convincingly. Scanlan has always been on good terms with his friends in the show, and this time Pike is there for him too, which changes his story significantly. I get what you mean about things feeling a little rushed. This season definitely had to cover a huge amount of content in 12 episodes, and there's very little room to breathe as a result. I still think it stuck the landing remarkably well though, and I completely respect the decision to end season 3 as if it was the final season. Short seasons and uncertainty of being renewed seem to be the unfortunate reality of animated TV series right now; this show is far from the only one, and I think season 3 was excellent even with those things working against it. I can't wait for season 4 and I hope we'll see your reactions, too. Experiencing this show with you has been an absolute ride and I will definitely stick around for whatever you do next. There are some Percy moments that I think you might find interesting. The first is Percy's death. It happened in episode 68, "Cloak and Dagger." Most of the episode is made up of a long combat between the group (minus Pike, who back in Whitestone). You should know that this took place right after the group went to Ank'harel. In fact, they started chasing Ripley directly from Ank'harel. Actually, it's kind of interesting how they discovered Ripley was there. If you want me to direct you to that sequence, let me know. Percy's death happens very near the end. If you want to start even closer to that, go to 4:00:00 and watch from that point onwards. Note: There is a character, Kynan who has a prominent part in the fight. He is from a Vax subplot that never made it into the show. At this point in the game, Vex and Percy wasn’t really a thing. There was flirting, but they weren’t “together” (as the show puts it). The first real indication that Vex was in love with Percy came with her reaction to his death. Percy's Resurrection. If you watch, keep watching until 2:43 ish. I couldn’t find a video that just showed the moment in isolation. BTW, the new faces at the table are Mary Elizabeth Glynn (Zahra), and Will Friedle (Kash).

Obviously there is a narrative reason why they split off to kill Ripley, find Raishan, and get Scanlan back, but it was also just a case of it is really hard to animate 7 characters in a scene. They said that is why they split the party so often is that Titmouse (the animation studio that made the show) basically asked them to limit the number of characters they would have to animate in a scene as much as possible. It was a case of either do that or it was going to be multiple years to make the season. Unfortunately, what they ideally wanted to do and what is possible with the studio and budget they had are two different things.

Al do i understand her feeling like it's rushed. It is a combination of rapping up the story because the didn't know if they had a season 4. And showing there growing strength over the seasons taking Les time with big problems.

The Luck Runs Out animatic doesn't understand the "Thank you" Odysseus gives Eurylochus. Odysseus is not actually giving a sincere thank you, what Odysseus is saying in his expatriated thank you is, "I should not have to tell you this. Your loyalty has to be unwavering so why am I having to ask you to do your job?"

The pacing on the back end of this season was not great. Like you, I still love the show! (in before) But imo they dropped the ball a little compared to the previous seasons' pacing. It felt like they were trying to speedrun the season. The frustrating thing is that some of the pacing issues could have been solved by simply not reordering the timeline as much? Things happened in a slightly different order at the table, and while that wasn't scripted, it flowed better than this scripted version. I feel like they've fallen into the trap of changing things *only* to catch people off guard, and that feels a little ...cheap? Like, surprising the audience shouldn't be the main goal? Compared to the way they adapted earlier parts of the story. THAT SAID, there are things I love about this season, I'm certainly not saying it was bad, just comparatively not as satisfying as the other two, for me. I've loved going on this journey with you, it's been a complete delight :) I can't wait to see what you watch after this. Happy Percy Being Alive Day! :D

I agree that VM felt more separated in a way that was jarring in the last few episodes of the season, but I would argue that was intentional. The team didn't have those big triumphant moments together because they've begun to fracture. Not irreparably, but enough so that they've gone their separate ways for now. They're all a little broken, and if I had to guess (and this is a guess because they've changed several key things from the campaign) we'll start next season with them breaking a little more before they all come back together. About Vex, in the campaign she was the one who broke Thordak's crystal and Vax still got the killing blow. I think they probably changed it because they wanted to give a big character moment to Pike, but I was also disappointed that she didn't get to have that moment. (Something to think about for your analysis videos, Laura talked about Delilah Briarwood as Vex's dark mirror. If Percy had stayed dead, she thought Vex might have turned desperate the same way Delilah did).

Actually the fight against Umbrasil wasn't that much longer than the one against Thordak. It was 5 minutes at the end of episode 11, where they tried it with Percys trap and then 20 minutes in episode 12. Thordaks fight lasted around 15-20 minutes. But Umbrasil showed up quite often during season 2, while Thordak was always just this lingering threat in the background. It kind of makes sense though. Season 2 had a strong focus on gathering vestiges, so they'd even have a chance of fighting the dragons. In the battle against Thordak the whole team is a lot stronger, Pike has the armor as a trump card and Raishan also attacks him. I agree that the rest of the season after that felt a little rushed. Within 3 epsiodes Kiki got her earth powers, two major antagonists were defeated and they resurrected Percy. One or two additional episodes would have been nice I think, but I guess they had to wrap up the arc.

about the pacing... it was the same in the game... once they killed vorugal everything happened moved VERY quickly. AND I suggest you watch some of the "table to screen" moments... the breakup with scanlan was EXTREMELY heartbreaking and in the game he died twice... just watch the "table to screen" moments I think some of it will hit you harder. which is funny because usually the show usually hits harder. but they lightened up scanlan's "bard's lament" ruclips.net/video/u2XOM2QevTI/видео.html

There is a very hilarious RUclips short of the actors discussing the second half of the season, specifically the transition from the "what is unsaid will remain so" scene where Vex is crying while talking to Vax, to the scene where he says I" don't want to be alone tonight". The way Laura describes it is she is crying her eyes out and her brother gets up and goes you're right that is really sad I should probably go bone my girlfriend. 😂

Okay spoilers for the original campaign, and the difference is with the Raishon fight. Keyleth was clutch in both sides 0 but for very different reasons. Raishon, apart from being a dragon to begin with, was a very powerful spellcaster. Keylet🎉h,'s big contribution was casting the spell feeble mind on her, which was clutch, because that dropped the dragons intelligence to one point. Raishon became a drooling idiot who could no longer use her magic. Not sure why they changed it both were cool though.

Okay the pike thing with blood is completely new and different from the original campaign. I know why they did it. There are reasons. But this whole journey is going to be completely new to older fans like myself so I'm here for it.

It's been quite a while since I saw it, but I believe in the original, a single druid cursed Raishon with their dying breath after doing battle with them. But like I said that was a long time ago in my memory can be iffy.

I'm so glad that we got to go on this journey with you Kyra, it was absolutely a delight to watch you really fall in love with these characters who I've loved for so long. I can't wait to see analysis videos and table-to-screen videos and anything else you care to put out. I also am really looking forward to your reactions for Arcane S2 and to continue with anything else you get up to. I think the appeal of reaction videos is getting to experience someone else watching what you have loved, and the vicarious thrill of getting to experience it again. It's why I started watching Vox Machina reaction videos in the first place, because I could never experience this show as someone who did not already know who these characters were and where this story was going. I absolutely agree with you that this season could have used another couple of episodes. Another set of 3 to bring us up to 15 would have been perfect, I think. And this season has really showed the constraints of the adaptation of hundreds of hours of content into just 12 episodes coming in at around 22-24 minutes each. There are certain beats that if they hadn't hit them, the fans of the original would have been upset-- and yet to make this season work at all they had to make some wild swings in terms of changing the story for adaptation. Some of it works excellently, some of it probably could have used another pass. I still deeply love what we got this season. That said, I really LOVE how they adapted Vex and Percy this season. In the campaigns, while there was background flirtation, besides the dropping of the title nothing actually happened between them until Percy's death and resurrection. That was what prompted Vex to confess that she was in love with him. And then it STILL took even more episodes for them to kiss. All of the sexy shenanigans happened after they had both confessed their love for each other. Honestly I think that the FWB arc for Perc'ahlia was truly inspired. It allowed them to keep some of the iconic moments (she opens the door naked, bathtub scene) while putting the emphasis on Vex's inability to admit her own feelings even to herself. I do think that even if this season was a little clunky along the way, it had some really great moments and was overall really fantastic. Once again, thank you for letting us enjoy this journey with you, it has truly been a pleasure. I'll put some table-to-screen moments in a followup comment. Agree with the rushed feeling towards the end. I liked the thordak fight personally, but the last three episodes. The unfortunate thing that is not really the creators fault is that they were NOT renewed for a 4th season until this season came out. Therefore, they had A LOT to fit in to make sure it was a wrapped up story, just in case season 4 was never greenlit by amazon. Side note…s2 was getting 4 vestiges and killing 1 dragon. Where as s3 was getting 1 vestige and killing 3 dragons. For me, that evens out in significant events at least, even if the pacing wasn’t quite right.

OMG, that laughter. You really needed that. So no apologies. For the season's pacing, word of season 4 didn't come until after season 3 had dropped. So for all intents and purposes, they were writing s3 as if it were the end (which is probably why that final-ish scene felt like an ending), and were probably very invested in wrapping up the Conclave arc. As for extending the season to more episodes, that's entirely on Amazon and the number of episodes they order.

Yay! You made it Kyra, it was al worth it and Percy is finally back!!! Your criticism of the series and pace of the story is completelly valid (I think the series would have a more balance ending if they had 1 or 2 episodes extra, but I guess the contract for the number of episodes is just 12), but there were a lot of things that happened during the making of this season, like Thordak's VA death, I think Sam (Scanlan VA) had less recording time because of his treatment for his cancer, and that they didn't knew there would be a 4th season after half the episodes were already made, so this is the best they could do for the story and trying to keep it as loyal to the original campaign. In my opinion they did a good job, and the reasons for some of the changes are very valid too, like Percy not getting Cabal's Ruin was because, since he would not be revived after Thordak and Raishan were defeated, there's no reason for him to have it anyway (at least for this season) and Scanlan's speech change to a more positive note was because it would to sad to end it in such a donwer tone after all the shit they went through Fun fact, in Raishan fight, since Percy's soul was in the gun Vax was carring, Percy was in that fight "in spirit" and even gave the final blow via Vax lol Anyway, you analysis are always on point and can't wait for what you have to say about Arcane s2, be ready because there will lots of crying there as well

There were 5 dragons, you are forgetting Brimscythe in season 1. Lightning, Acid, Ice, Fire, and Poison. And the curse was explained in the campaign. Also in the campaign, Vax killed Thordak and Vex killed Ripley. You would probably like the table to screen for the scene where they resurrect Percy. My favorite moment in Vox Machina hasn't happened yet... It should be in the series finale. If it doesn't, I will riot!

I definitely agree with the idea that the series could have been drawn out more, especially so that they could do Scalan’s arc correctly and I don’t think Pike needs this new storyline, maybe just that first meeting but I don’t think it needed to be such a focus this season

See we told you to keep on going, we said the finale will bring you to tears, we didn't say happy or sad tears. But now you know Percy has returned, and is in recovery mode. Vax is going to pay a price for this. So we don't know what will happen with him in Season 4. Percy has been gone for awhile that he forgot Vex and Vax, he got drowned in his guilt. Scanlan went on a World Tour with Kaylee, and Keylith went with Vax to finish her Aramentay. So she will be even more stronger and prepared for Season 4. She still needs to master Water now. Grog and Pike will do whatever they do i guess, and Percy and Vex will hang around White Stone for the time being. Eventually our gang will be brought back together some how in Season 4. Also i cried to when Vax called Percy his brother. That hit me hard to. But i'm glad you are happy and in a better mood. This finale was fantastic.

They could have filled out another 3 episodes if the time and budget were available, but I think they made effective choices given the limitations. My main nitpick is that Pike's arc feels incomplete, though I'm sure they have plans for that in the next season. Grog delivers the line about fixing Scalnlan (from episode 9) very differently in the campaign. There's a moment in their home game where Grog should have died but Matt gave him the chance to roll an intelligence check to see if Grog was smart enough to know he ought to be dead. It became a loose run on joke that Grog doesn't fully understand death. So something tragic became funny, and then tragic again when Grog didn't understand that Scanlan couldnt be healed. I would have liked Vex to have gotten a little more attention around Thordack's death, as well.
