Yes, that was a Laura Bailey moment. Because she's a foul-mouthed, goblin-minded, immature queen of RPGs and we love her from her inability to let a sexual innuendo go to waste to her collection of dice that the uncultured would say is "way too many dice" (but the rest of us would say is "almost enough dice")
Been waiting for your reaction to this ep! So glad that the "later talk" got adapted from the campaign lol. When Percy was outside Vexs room and you were like "Are we getting a first kiss?" my brain immediately went to "Oh she is not prepared". To be fair, I knew it was coming since I watched the campaign and I wasnt prepared for how spicy that scene got lol
Laura Bailey tweeted that her mom texted her after the first three episodes of season 3 came out saying how much she loved it and Laura replied with "Sorry about all the sex" lol
Recently they were talking about the Vex/Percy relationship with Tallisen and he was like I was trying to be cute at the table with there romance, and then he said I realized very quickly Laura was going to make it hot and heavy. While Travis was like cute? No not my wife 😂😂
I am spoiled by your amazing attention to detail and love for the characters so much that I sometimes find it hard to watch other reactions to Vox Machina. In other words, I think you might be the best at this
Mary (Zahra's voice actress, and the voice director for The Legend of Vox Machina) with the "Aoooga" eyes. Also her saying "I can't wait for the artwork", knowing where we are now.
@@nickthedreamer4434Words can't express how much I love the excitement of the cast knowing people are going to be making smut of their DnD characters to them actually making it in their own animated show
11:44 that's why she asked who was there before opening 13:04 I can really recommend also watching this moment in the tabletop campaign. These surprising moments are the best! 47:59 YAY!
okay but like... "who is it?" *scanlan already 3/4s through the door* "yeah so vex, you still owe me like half a favor and---i'm assuming this isn't for me"
37:09 One moment that really shows allura's personality. Even after betraying them and trying to feed them to a dragon, she still tries to save her friend!
Percy and Kiki are bffs in the campaign and it is so cute. I hope we get more of it in the show, if not you should take a look at some of the clips with it for sure!!
I've been waiting for this 😄 Always a delight to see another reaction appear. Fluffy haired Percy is too adorable, shouldn't be allowed. "When did he get game?" He DIDN'T 🤣 It's awkward and endearing and cautious AF, and if Vex hadn't taken charge they'd probably still be at the gentle hand holding stage. Bless him. The little conversation between Cass and Percy makes me so happy. First, I love how she talks just like Percy "your concerns are appreciated" because it's cute, but also, look at them just quietly repairing their trauma together and having a sibling moment. It's so soft. Plus, turns out Cass is the best wingman. Your reaction to that moment was everything I hoped for 🤣 No need to apologize, it caught everyone off guard, including Percy! I assumed this was Percy's first time, but not Vex's, at least judging by his face when they were done. But I don't think we have confirmation one way or the other from the stream. "Good talk" I mean, communication happened, just not verbal :p Hard agree on the "camera" work, it's always been a highlight of the fight scenes, and they way everything is ALWAYS clear and easy to follow, even when it moves fast. A pet peeve of mine is that so often shows seem to conflate "confusion and motion-blurred chaos" with "dramatic action sequence" like, no, please, I would like to SEE what's happening, thank you? Both animation and live action do it and I hate it. So I love how they use light and camera angles here to make everything dynamic, but still crystal clear, no motion blur. My ADHD struggles with fight scenes if they're too jumbled, because I get /bored/, like "okay this is just a loud mess, let me know when someone wins" and I'll just kind of glaze over while whatever is blurrily happening sorts itself out. It's way too common, so I appreciate that it's NOT how they do action for LoVM. Very briefly, it entertains me that the two non-casters run to the beacon and then are like "???" because that feels very DnD. Like "We'll fight the dragonborn, you two deal with the beacon?" "Sure sounds good" *initiative order engages * "...wait how do we do that? Shit it's my turn? Um... I hit it, I guess?" 😆 Not sure if it's meant to be funny, but it amuses me. The delivery of "As you like" is just SO soft. It gets me in the heart every time, because he's SO gentle with her fear. Like, no, Percy often can't read a room, but in that moment he clearly sees RIGHT through Vex, but lets her have her defenses. He's happy to be patient until she's ready, and I just... it's the same respect he's shown her since the start, it's "I'm sorry for springing that title on you" and "they're definitely not worth you" and all the other moments. It gives me ALL the feels. And yeah, she absolutely admits it, "...everyone I've ever loved" I don't think she even realises she said it, but she pulls him in for that hug with her arms wrapped all the way around and hands in his hair, she's not pushing him away, and Percy's not that much of a fool that he would miss it, I don't think. "That wiped any trace of coherency" honestly it's a testament to Percy that he's able to speak at all, ever again 🤣 As always, looking forward to your next reaction. Hope you're having a good timezone.
shhhhh he thinks he has game because vex laughed just give him and his silly fluffy head this one small victory ;;; i loved seeing cass and percy actually talking about whitestone and the way she's able to make fun of him and push him around speaks monuments to how their relationship has mended from 'grateful we still have each other' to 'this is my actual sibling i must tease and torture as is my right'. cass like 'oh my god go get LAID jfc' was hilarious. small detail, i love how when vex yanks him into the room, we do see his body arching backwards, feet still dragging in the hallway like she just yoinked him in there, no resistance. i'm assuming it was his first time because...there's just no part of his past where he was either in the social space or the headspace to be in a relationship and percy doesn't do things halfway. unless it's agreeing to have a fling with vex. that's not really a fling. but they won't say so. he can't do things without throwing his all behind them. but good conversation, yes. some canoe-dling did indeed happen. i hate fight scenes that are just...BOOM this character punched the ground and WHOOOOM laser beam and somehow someone is over here and that person is THERE and it's so satisfying to see a show where the hits actually have weight, the actions are followed through, and to actually understand the motivations of characters when they choose to move or strike. i can't...even get into that percy moment like when he's all 'oh vex you understand me better than i know myself' or whatever but then he just...respects her feelings and understands that this isn't a rejection, this is her trying to protect herself and he GETS IT because percy has lost SO MANY PEOPLE and while he's come out the end deciding it's better to have happiness while you can, vex is not him and is entitled to her own feelings and he will damn well honor that so he'll find his own happiness in whatever she is willing to give while they're both fully aware it could be more---it could be LOVE ugh i'm on the ground over this---like there have been moments in the past of percy not completely understanding vex because they are very different people but he is always willing to admit that he needs to learn so he can be better for her and see you got me started now i'm a disaster i actually watched ep4 already and accidentally went on for 20 minutes about this oops hope YOUR timezone is treating you well!
@@kyratries Your enthusiasm for these characters delights me so much, because SAME. I totally get it, they have all permanently moved into my brain and live there now.
@@MammalianCreature Tiberius had a thing for Allura, and it was hinted early (mostly pre streaming) that it was a possibility of Tiberius and Allura ending up together. Orion really wanted it to happen, and in the campaign you can see his frustration when Matt began dropping hints of Allura/Kima.
oh yes the infamous "later talk" scene lol. waited all week to see how your mind would get blown, didnt disappoint lol. cant wait to see the rest of the season after this.
First: I'm glad you picked up that Percy is starting to take his lordly duties more seriously. I feel like that setting -- the group actually sitting on the Sun Tree, with Percy (along with Vex and Grog) at the highest point, visually links him to Whitestone and it's central symbol. And his major concern about their trip isn't the danger of going, it's the danger of leaving his city "unprotected." Which is a concern because there's a green dragon lurking around. A small detail that amuses Critters is that the wine bottle Percy is carrying when he goes to Vex's room is labeled "Courage." It reinforces the suspicion that this is his first time, and he taking a big step into the unknown. It feels like I've been waiting three years to see your reaction to this scene. Even knowing that this was coming for Vex and Percy, I was unprepared for how they animated it -- or I guess, how MUCH they animated. But I love that they juxtaposed it with Vax and Keyleth having yet another frustrating talk about the hopelessness of their relationship. It was the perfect distillation of both couples. Did anything else happen this episode? I can't remember..... 🤔
@@kyratries Just for your own peace of mind, because we're going to want you to watch the scene in campaign, there was some, uh, writerly embellishment by the animators.
21:58 In the Critical Role livestream campaign, it is confirmed that Percy has a LOT of scars so yes it’s probably a case that they couldn’t animate them all consistently. There’s plenty of fanart that includes them though. 😅
So excited for you to see the rest of this season! Now, I will tell you, in the later episodes, they deviated some from what happened at the table, so there will be fewer table-to-screen opportunities, but they kept in some of the true gems!
i think is a animation issue, when you give a character multiple scars in their body you need to be aware of them every time the character is showing the body part and that can be dificult. now this is just my theory, it could easily be the case that the forgott but i get if they actually just did to simplify the work of the animators
16:45 That is what the show "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" also does an amazing job at depicting, with loosing the ones closest to you to time. What it means to live "forever" and what your habbits and outlook on life would be like if you did. A truly beatiful show which I can recommend everyone to watch it and I think you'd really enjoy watching it as well. It's sad, but very wholesome at the same time.
I believe the scars are not there because those kind of details are much harder to animate compared to fewer details. I would imagine even 1 scar animated over a few seconds on a being in motion would be labor intensive. This is also why we rarely see all 7 characters in a single shot.
god i will never stop saying, i really apreciate your reaction to this shows, they are so raw and insightfull, you understand thems with the characters that i seen critters with hundred hours of campaing knowleged miss. like i have say in other comments, i recomend when you finish the series to watch the "table to screens" comparations to see how scenes like the "before or after" was develope in the campaing, honestly with how much you understand this characters is just gonna be a fun extra for you
11:33 This is one where you definitely have to look up the table-to-screen video, because literally yes. Laura’s exact words: “I open the door, completely naked!”
After a long week at work, your reaction to the whole "talk now or later" sceens were even better than I had imagined lol, so thank you for that! ❤ I litterally laughed out loud! We all look forward to your "annoying" self to the rest of the season. Cheers!
You said "May we get a first kiss...." my brain: Ooooohhhh Gurl...Vex is not doing the half measures, Percy is certainly, mildly vexed. Then comes the contrast with Vax and Kiki. OUCH! The road to hell seems to be full of many kinds of intentions. They really do a great job in this episode reflecting on how trauma, and fear create such varied reactions, and how entering in to any relationship where trauma or danger are in the mix requires so much negotiation. You really do have some of the best reactions!!
Was eagerly awaiting your reaction to this episode for exactly your reaction to the bedroom sequence. Did not disappoint. Appreciate your detailed analysis!
with the twins the death of their mother and their dads attitude towards them really did some emotional damage to the twins and how they view love. vex doesn't want to open herself up to get hurt & Vax doesn't want t to risk hurting people he loves.
One of the low key funny things I appreciate about this episode is the look on Percy's face when he and Vex collapse on top of the bed after the "talk". He looks genuinely stunned in a "How did I just do that, and what just happened?" kinda way. Also, a nice use of body language by the animators during the scene where Vex suggests Percy update her on the "canoe" situation. When she says "canoe" she pointedly looks down at Percy's below the belt area.
"Last time I flirted with a woman, she died" In fairness to Percy's game... 1) he flirted well enough that neither of them noticed the deadly trap, hence the problem... and 2) he's flirting with the same woman.
Are we going to get a first kiss or something?” Yeah, something like that. The table to screen comparison is a must watch. Marisha's reaction is golden
No, Keyleth is DEFINITELY right here. Vax is scared of the future having gotten a little glimpse of what shape it could take, and he's trying to make a decision for the both of them without consulting her about it, which ISN'T cool of him. Keyleth has every right to be upset about him dictating to her under what circumstances their relationship would be possible. She's more ready for the relationship than he is right now, but she's not going to accept being treated as anything less than a fully autonomous partner in that coupling, nor should she.
Also, a couple relevant quotes from various geeky sources in support of Keyleth's position. "What is grief, if not love persevering?" - Vision, Wandavision "The culmination of love is grief, and yet we love despite the inevitable. We open our hearts to it. ... To grieve deeply is to have loved fully. Open your heart to the world as you opened it to me, and you will find every reason to keep living in it." - Laufey the Just, God of War: Ragnarok
I agree with you! Keyleth is in the right! I also just find it interesting how Vax is coming around to being in the wrong because it is a winding path and I suspect is going to involve his own fear of loss, not just Keyleth's. He's always known that Keyleth is going to outlive him, and yet he was the first to admit to his feelings. That fact has always been there. The difference now is that Vax has seen Keyleth's grief...but then that speaks volumes about how much he disregarded Keyleth's lifespan before all this and didn't think things through in a way Keyleth obviously has. But she is right. And what could be more painful than losing something that could have brought happiness--even if brief--because of the fear of losing that something? What could spur on more regret? But Keyleth continues on loving her friends knowing she will outlast them all because to be any other way would be to cast connection off altogether, and who can weigh the pain of loneliness against the pain of loss?
not going back and watching that agin... translation: I'm not going back in front of everyone and will defiantly rewatch that scene in it's entirety later, to burn those two cartoon crushes into the brain... (like many of us)
Your reaction is amazing. Perchalia is an amazing ship. Vex is very body positive & direct. Most of the group has seen her naked at one point or another.
I was really looking forward to your reaction to this episode. The "Later Talk" (from this episode) is one you should react to after you've finished watching this season. Both the table one and the fan animated one.
10:10 Oh, honey!! This scene is straight from the gameplay, and there is the wonderful description I can still hear: "And I open the door, COMPLETELY naked!" 24:39 I see, you've read the "Vox Machina Origins" Comics, but have not seen the campaign gameplay... err, the character of Tiberius was played by an 8th member of the original Critical role, sadly the group and this player split rather unamicably, that is why he's gone. this happened around 9 years ago, at the point in the story where they were on the road to Whitestone back in "season 1". some say this Dohla is a placeholder, but considering how she is treated, and how some fans are talking trash about her proving some are still sore about the situation, I really hope not.
Knowing you as a Perc'ahlia shipper, I have been waiting for you to see this episode with keen anticipation, and you did not disappoint. I do hope the love scene was not upsetting, and it was at least the beginnings of a romantic story for you.
oh not upsetting at all! seeing as they've been more of the 'slow burn' romance, i'm very excited to see where this sudden development leads them! they're already a romantic story, and this is just a turn powered by very understandable motivations from the characters!
Percy does have scars in the campaign - they seem to have decided that in the tlovm-verse healing magic deals with scars too (they wanted to give the animators a bit of a break)
Except facial scars. Pike seems to have a scar over one eye. And Kima has a scar across her jaw. On the other hand, Grog was impaled more than once on the show, but no scars. Just a beard.
In England if your surname starts with the term “Fitz” like “Fitzroy” meaning the son of the king, there’s a fair chance one of your ancestors was an illegitimate son of the King.
So Doylist interpretation is that it would just be too hard to animate the scars that Percy probably should have after what he went through at the hands of the Briarwoods/Ripley. Watsonian says that they healed him after each torture session so that they could continue torturing him indefinitely, and that actually is more fucked up. Can you imagine looking in the mirror and remembering the hook slicing through your neck and seeing nothing. Remembering how it felt and knowing in your mind that it happened, but there's no proof, just the phantom pain of tearing flesh that will never fully go away but you're fine. You look fine, like it never happened. They erased what they did to his body but his mind can't let it go.
Oh, that's diabolical, I love that explanation. I was a little sad we didn't get scars too, but now it's PAINFUL :p (...we're going to ignore what that says about me. Moving along.)
@@mollymawkery Oh it really, truly does. See also some of the casually mind-altering spells that just get thrown around like nothing, "calm emotions" and "friends" for example. Some of that stuff is more disturbing than necromancy, even before you start getting to things like "modify memory".
Or with the fact the Briarwoods would have had *very* limited access to any healing methods, we can go with the more optimistic 🌞 Watsonian explanation that his good friend Pike healed any significant, noticeable scars that he wanted gone
The basic idea with Keyleth's lifespan is that once Keyleth finishes her Aramente, completing all trials, her aging will slow to one tenth of its normal speed (a year aged for every decade lived). This is represented in D&D by the druid class feature 'Timeless Body', normally attained by druids at level 18, but Matt remixed things to tie it to her character journey. Given that half elves reach adulthood at 20, and generally live in excess of 180 years, assuming that her aging slows at around age 25, she could easily have another 1,550+ years left in her. Gnomes, by contrast, generally cap out at around 500 years old. Scanlan and Pike, barring misadventure, will be the ones to last with her the longest.
i think they sort of show that in the intro, right? the characters disappear one by one except for keyleth and i believe pike is last to go? (geez that's depressing)
but then you'd think that pike wouldn't have the scar over her eye and i think grog has a big scar on his arm? i think they might have just...decided to skip it. i mean, the scars would definitely take away focus from the...um...other activities going on, and since they were already juxtaposing against vax and keyleth, perhaps having a moment of 'yeah percy has scars' would have broken the flow. idk they could have taken a chance to show his scars last episode considering ripley was right there and then it wouldn't have to be a 'moment' for the audience to take in when with vex, but there's bound a lot of stuff that doesn't make it to the screen. it did just come to mind quickly for me because we DID literally just deal with ripley.
So, there's a theory that Dula (a red dragonborn leader with a crush on Allura) *might* be a bit of a reference to a certain red dragonborn leader with a crush on Allura from the campaign.
Oh right, there ARE dragons... I'll admit I was looking forward to this episode, if only to see if you were going to be as shocked as me when THE scene happened (and I've /seen/ that part in the campaign). Good catch on Vex jumping his bones without giving him any time to discuss feels~. I guess Percy almost dying twice on her in one day was motivation enough to invite him to her room, but if she thinks she can leave it at that she's LYING to herself. I think it's key how the twins frame a shared behaviour differently - Vax is afraid of hurting Keyleth as much as Vex is afraid of hurting Percy, but Vax frames it to be for Keyleth's sake while Vex tries to appeal to rationality before admitting her own fears (on the second talk. when she told him to call it a tryst, it hurt ME). So maybe that's why Vex is more sympathetic to me, lol I've also gotta say, the couples also share the weird similarity of the half-elves getting so invested the first kiss is even with tongue, and then they just. dump them
I could spend a long while talking about the twins and how they're the same and different and coming to the same place from different directions and yeah, i have thoughts now that didn't...put themselves together until a while after the episode but i mean YEAH okay vex 'well he's probably gonna die better hit that while i can no feelings involved whatsoever' versus vax 'well she's not dying so that a no on hand holding many feelings involved' these idiots
You have been ultra fangirling this season and I am here for it. This is what all critters do. The show gives me horniness, strife, fart jokes and ball tag. It gives heartbreak. Angst and all of the basics of humanity. And also we get to theorize about what the heck is going to happen next. We all theorize.
i live in a household with a teenager, two dogs, two rabbits (fidget is very noisy), and two other adults and i'm in the basement with no noise cancellation so...might as well ;;;;
I respectfully disagree with this request. I prefer it when you watch episodes one at a time. It gives you the space to pause, talk, and "be annoying."
Damn girl, you have very noisy neighbors. Can really hear them stomping on that floor over your reaction. I would move out there to a new apartment or something. Noise like that would drive me crazy. It took me to the age of 44 to buy my first house and so glad i did. No worries of loud neighbors. My last apartment wasn't as bad with the noise but i could still hear the neighbors a little. The walls had some decent sound proof for an apartment.
Now, living my home for 2 years, it's been so quiet and the only sounds i hear is my AC or heating system turns on or off. It's so peaceful and quiet for the most part.
After Laura piped up with "I answer the door, completely naked" in the stream, Marisha's immediate reaction was a joyful "That was a power move!" And I think they did go as far as they did with the scene to precisely contrast it with the emo-boy emotional failure next door. Poor Kiki.
I don't know WHY my comments don't seem to show up when I post them on mobile so paraphrasing (and apologies if it comments twice for you). "Call it a mistake" ohhh Syldor I am coming for your fucking kneecaps. That little bit of dialogue callback to their dad calling his children a mistake hurts me so much. For Vex it seems to be almost preempting the possibility that he's going to call their night together (that he's going to call her) a mistake-- but for Percy it leaves him potentially wondering if she thinks it was a mistake. Absolutely fucking brutal. The twins are really showing their twin (heh) traumas here. Vex with this halfway thing, and Vax with his noble sacrifice that he's got going on. Honestly get it together you two! Keyleth knows what she's getting into by being with Vax-- she knows that it means he's going to die before her, and she's ready to take that risk when she wasn't before. And even if it will hurt losing a romantic partner, it's going to hurt just as much losing all her friends. It was ALL of Vox Machina on that grave, after all. Meanwhile Vex is at the point of "I will hold all of my feelings right here and then I will die". Girl your coping mechanisms are so bad. I do think that the previous episode, with Percy almost dying in a dramatic self-sacrifice, leads into this very well. That moment showed her that she couldn't just continue to be flirty and aloof with him (ignore all the putting their lives on the line for each other, supporting each other in their worst moments, and dramatic confessions of her heart being "someone else's" in the Fey Realm), that something had to give. This "purely sexual" relationship is the most that she can allow herself. But I think you are very right that this is untenable and she is ass-over-teakettle fallen for this man. Eventually the thousand foot wall Vex'ahlia has put around her feelings will break. Meanwhile, congrats Percy on getting to touch the best tits in Tal'dorei. I do love his little pathetic face when they get buried in the ice and he's just scrunched up against Vex's boobs, like you didn't get a faceful of those last night. But also same, Percival, same. Also, special shoutout to the lighting in this episode!! It's been so good all season (thank you extra production time) but in this episode it's especially gorgeous. I love Vex walking down the stairs with the romantic pink sunset lighting. And I really love the early morning lighting with Percy waking up with tousled hair and just brushing Vex's hair behind her ear so lovingly. He is, as Cassandra put so succinctly, smitten. Love the Percy and Cass in this as well. Her moving into younger-sister teasing mode was so perfect, but also I love that he's been talking to her about the concerns of Whitestone and helping her take on some of that burden of leadership that he left her with in Season 1. Perhaps he's finally ready to become the leader Whitestone needs.
i didn't see your comment so thank you for posting again! :D i...um...maybe already watched the next ep and it's scheduled for tomorrow, but i literally go on for 20 minutes about the twins and this whole...mess of their relationships because vex finally let my brain out of a choke hold. so yes, i totally agree with so much of this and please don't be surprised if you watch the next video and i'm talking about exactly all this!! will percy ever be able to take vex's tits to the face and not have a little freak out? will percy ever be able to interact with vex in any sort of romantic/sexual way and not blush??? boy couldn't hand over his coat without keyleth fangirling in the background they were both so obvious ;u; the animation for this show is so stunning to me. the characters are very simple and their designs are also pretty simple---i recognize this most with percy lacking a lot of his accessories that he has in the comics, but keyleth also loses a lot of extra details. but then they give us these gorgeous, almost watercolor backgrounds and scenery, the fights are so well choreographed and--yes--the lighting is so good in this ep, from framing vex walking down the stairs to the candlelight in the sex scene to the contrasting light of the hells and...i forget the name of the icy place, but the contrast there was gorgeous. so by sacrificing some of the original design ideas for the characters, i think that really allowed for these amazing fights and they make up for less detail in the characters themselves with every other little detail and i have a lot of respect for that decision. some shows you have really fancy designs for the characters but they end up looking like trash when animated because it's impossible to keep that much detail up, so there ends up being a lot of wide-angle, super distant shots. also the expressiveness the characters can have in their faces combined with the stellar voice-acting is something i would never give in for any amount of fancy designs. ever. I LOVE the percy and cass scene. from him showing initiative into becoming a leader--not now, he's still too impulsive, but the roots are now there--to the way they've transformed from 'the two siblings who survived' to actual playful siblings gives me life
@@kyratries oh man I can't wait to see your thoughts in the next video!! I'm so excited--I typically watch your videos on my way into work, so it's nice to have one to look forward to! And no worries if you've hit on some of the stuff I said here, we are working from the same source material after all. To be fair to Percy, flustered is absolutely the correct emotion to being up close and personal with Vex. Also yes the character designs for this show are so, so good! Definitely optimized for animation, with the stripped down details-- but it just really means that they can make that animation pop. I think I've mentioned before but Phil Bourassa (the character designer for this show) is absolutely a master of his craft-- he's been a character designer for 20 years now, on shows like Young Justice and a bunch of DC titles. They've also released some of the character reference sheets that are really excellent pieces of art. Apparently they got him on board because Travis Willingham met him in an airport & asked him to consider working with the show. But yeah the team that they've got on this is doing an excellent job and everything just looks so lush and gorgeous, and some of the environments this season are incredible.

@@nickthedreamer4434Words can't express how much I love the excitement of the cast knowing people are going to be making smut of their DnD characters to them actually making it in their own animated show
11:44 that's why she asked who was there before opening
13:04 I can really recommend also watching this moment in the tabletop campaign. These surprising moments are the best! 47:59 YAY!
okay but like...
"who is it?"
*scanlan already 3/4s through the door* "yeah so vex, you still owe me like half a favor and---i'm assuming this isn't for me"
the fandom concurs with you about the scars, a lot of us were really bummed he didn't have any 😭
yeah I was gonna say it my only issue with the series like Ripley directly said "that's going to leave a mark"
Yeah! I do love the animated series but I sorely miss Percy and Keyleth’s Technology/Nature friendship.
Your reaction to that moment was everything I hoped for 🤣
No need to apologize, it caught everyone off guard, including Percy!
I assumed this was Percy's first time, but not Vex's, at least judging by his face when they were done. But I don't think we have confirmation one way or the other from the stream.
"Good talk" I mean, communication happened, just not verbal :p
Hard agree on the "camera" work, it's always been a highlight of the fight scenes, and they way everything is ALWAYS clear and easy to follow, even when it moves fast.
"That wiped any trace of coherency" honestly it's a testament to Percy that he's able to speak at all, ever again 🤣
As always, looking forward to your next reaction. Hope you're having a good timezone.
shhhhh he thinks he has game because vex laughed just give him and his silly fluffy head this one small victory ;;;
i loved seeing cass and percy actually talking about whitestone and the way she's able to make fun of him and push him around speaks monuments to how their relationship has mended from 'grateful we still have each other' to 'this is my actual sibling i must tease and torture as is my right'. cass like 'oh my god go get LAID jfc' was hilarious.
small detail, i love how when vex yanks him into the room, we do see his body arching backwards, feet still dragging in the hallway like she just yoinked him in there, no resistance. i'm assuming it was his first time because...there's just no part of his past where he was either in the social space or the headspace to be in a relationship and percy doesn't do things halfway. unless it's agreeing to have a fling with vex. that's not really a fling. but they won't say so. he can't do things without throwing his all behind them. but good conversation, yes. some canoe-dling did indeed happen.
i hate fight scenes that are just...BOOM this character punched the ground and WHOOOOM laser beam and somehow someone is over here and that person is THERE and it's so satisfying to see a show where the hits actually have weight, the actions are followed through, and to actually understand the motivations of characters when they choose to move or strike.
i can't...even get into that percy moment like when he's all 'oh vex you understand me better than i know myself' or whatever but then he just...respects her feelings and understands that this isn't a rejection, this is her trying to protect herself and he GETS IT because percy has lost SO MANY PEOPLE and while he's come out the end deciding it's better to have happiness while you can, vex is not him and is entitled to her own feelings and he will damn well honor that so he'll find his own happiness in whatever she is willing to give while they're both fully aware it could be more---it could be LOVE ugh i'm on the ground over this---like there have been moments in the past of percy not completely understanding vex because they are very different people but he is always willing to admit that he needs to learn so he can be better for her and see you got me started now i'm a disaster i actually watched ep4 already and accidentally went on for 20 minutes about this oops
hope YOUR timezone is treating you well!
@@kyratries Your enthusiasm for these characters delights me so much, because SAME. I totally get it, they have all permanently moved into my brain and live there now.
YES your reaction to the "talk later" hallway scene was perfect 😂
A red dragonborn sorcerer, who wears blue robes, and hates the relationship between Kima and Allura.
So Tiberius kinda did show up.
I've heard mixed things on this comparison but it does seem to be a little bit of a nod to Tiberius. I noted it the first time I watched this episode.
He didn't like the Kima and Allura pairing? Damn.
"Are we gonna get a first kiss?"
Technically yes and a little bit more.
just a little
"Are we gonna get a first kiss?" 🤣 ya something like that
i mean they DID kiss for the first time XD so we DID get a first kiss, just... why more sexually charged then vax and kiki XD
You cannot imagine the smile on my face as I saw this was posted😅
oh yes the infamous "later talk" scene lol. waited all week to see how your mind would get blown, didnt disappoint lol. cant wait to see the rest of the season after this.
Also I really like the way that Aurora says friction. The level of innuendo is off the charts
I said it in episode 1... You. Will not. Survive... welcome to the FIRST episode to fully short circuit your brain. Lol
i walked away feeling like i'd watched porn i can't BELIEVE perc'ahlia beats scanlan out for longest, most explicit scene
O_O
@@kyratries Just for your own peace of mind, because we're going to want you to watch the scene in campaign, there was some, uh, writerly embellishment by the animators.
Ah, yes, in case I needed reminding about why I like watching reactions XD
21:58 In the Critical Role livestream campaign, it is confirmed that Percy has a LOT of scars so yes it’s probably a case that they couldn’t animate them all consistently. There’s plenty of fanart that includes them though. 😅
bless the artists
@@kyratries Amen to that! 😂
So excited for you to see the rest of this season!
Now, I will tell you, in the later episodes, they deviated some from what happened at the table, so there will be fewer table-to-screen opportunities, but they kept in some of the true gems!
Canonically Percy does have a lot of scars, for some reason they didn’t animate them. A lot of critters called it out.
i think is a animation issue, when you give a character multiple scars in their body you need to be aware of them every time the character is showing the body part and that can be dificult. now this is just my theory, it could easily be the case that the forgott but i get if they actually just did to simplify the work of the animators
The didn't want to draw attention to the de Rolo line of skincare cosmetics and overshadow the story.
Percy has always had some game. Look back in season one when they were steering the horse cart toward Whitestone from Emon.
are we suggesting vex was 'hyaaa'ing him in the bedroom?
16:45 That is what the show "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" also does an amazing job at depicting, with loosing the ones closest to you to time. What it means to live "forever" and what your habbits and outlook on life would be like if you did.
A truly beatiful show which I can recommend everyone to watch it and I think you'd really enjoy watching it as well.
It's sad, but very wholesome at the same time.
10:40 - Exactly why we all are here... For that reaction.
"I'm definitely not going to go back and watch that again..."
Who wants to bet she's going back to watch that again off screen... MANY times?
Hahahaha, welcome to the episode 3 club, this reminded us all of why Laura Bailey is the queen of the Thanos - Level power move.
19:10 "Congrats on the sex" lmao
"Are we going to get a first kiss or something?" 🤣
Too perfect 😸
Was eagerly awaiting your reaction to this episode for exactly your reaction to the bedroom sequence. Did not disappoint. Appreciate your detailed analysis!
"As you like" hurts a bit, huh?
Vex in season 2, "It always matters."
Vex in season 3, "Then nothing matters."
Coincidence? Probably... but still.
Ahh this one! Vexations, your reaction is golden.
“Dragons also happen I guess” 😂😂😂
Word
with the twins the death of their mother and their dads attitude towards them really did some emotional damage to the twins and how they view love. vex doesn't want to open herself up to get hurt & Vax doesn't want t to risk hurting people he loves.
Instead of a 10 second jump, you can hit the left key on your keyboard for a 5 second jump.
11:19 Clearly, Kyra is covering her nose to hide a spontaneous nosebleed XD
"Last time I flirted with a woman, she died"
In fairness to Percy's game...
"What is grief, if not love persevering?" - Vision, Wandavision
"The culmination of love is grief, and yet we love despite the inevitable.
19:44
She said, lying through her teeth.
not going back and watching that agin... translation: I'm not going back in front of everyone and will defiantly rewatch that scene in it's entirety later, to burn those two cartoon crushes into the brain... (like many of us)
"He's along for the ride"....Literally
Love how they added the before or after bit from the caompaign. classic
10:38 straight from the campaign and Laura Bailey's lascivious mind lmao
the Opening the Door scene is a legendary moment of Campaign 1
10:10 Oh, honey!!
This scene is straight from the gameplay, and there is the wonderful description I can still hear: "And I open the door, COMPLETELY naked!"
24:39 I see, you've read the "Vox Machina Origins" Comics, but have not seen the campaign gameplay... err, the character of Tiberius was played by an 8th member of the original Critical role, sadly the group and this player split rather unamicably, that is why he's gone. this happened around 9 years ago, at the point in the story where they were on the road to Whitestone back in "season 1". some say this Dohla is a placeholder, but considering how she is treated, and how some fans are talking trash about her proving some are still sore about the situation, I really hope not.
7:22 I think Vex heard you. 😂
Enjoying the content. Also as the person who plays Vax once said, "You are not prepared"
"We could die tomorrow, let's have sex now! "
Perfection ❤😂
Per the actual play, the wine bottle should be labeled Courage.
The acid dragon's name was Umbilical.
Umbilical, Anthrax, Icy Dragon...I got these down!
Violence and nudity straight off the bat is how good storytelling is made
Thordak is such a good dad.
In England if your surname starts with the term “Fitz” like “Fitzroy” meaning the son of the king, there’s a fair chance one of your ancestors was an illegitimate son of the King.
And today I learned a thing!
@InkyPetrel Magical healing has fascinating and horrifying implications if you want to get twisted with it.
@@mollymawkery Oh it really, truly does. See also some of the casually mind-altering spells that just get thrown around like nothing, "calm emotions" and "friends" for example. Some of that stuff is more disturbing than necromancy, even before you start getting to things like "modify memory".
...wow i was having an okay day. i mean...thanks for the delicious angst but i have to stare at a wall for 5 hours now
Or with the fact the Briarwoods would have had *very* limited access to any healing methods, we can go with the more optimistic 🌞 Watsonian explanation that his good friend Pike healed any significant, noticeable scars that he wanted gone
@@kyratriesVery much so, yeah.
Pike is -slightly- younger than Scanlan, so she’s probably the one Keyleth will have the longest.
You're right, Percy should DEFINITELY have scars... unless magic healing clears scar tissue?
but then you'd think that pike wouldn't have the scar over her eye and i think grog has a big scar on his arm? i think they might have just...decided to skip it. i mean, the scars would definitely take away focus from the...um...other activities going on, and since they were already juxtaposing against vax and keyleth, perhaps having a moment of 'yeah percy has scars' would have broken the flow. idk
they could have taken a chance to show his scars last episode considering ripley was right there and then it wouldn't have to be a 'moment' for the audience to take in when with vex, but there's bound a lot of stuff that doesn't make it to the screen. it did just come to mind quickly for me because we DID literally just deal with ripley.
Yea the twins are kinda emotionally stunted for reasons you might guess at but will become apparent later
Great Video !
So maybe that's why Vex is more sympathetic to me, lol
I've also gotta say, the couples also share the weird similarity of the half-elves getting so invested the first kiss is even with tongue, and then they just. dump them
I could spend a long while talking about the twins and how they're the same and different and coming to the same place from different directions and yeah, i have thoughts now that didn't...put themselves together until a while after the episode but i mean YEAH okay vex 'well he's probably gonna die better hit that while i can no feelings involved whatsoever' versus vax 'well she's not dying so that a no on hand holding many feelings involved' these idiots
You have been ultra fangirling this season and I am here for it. This is what all critters do. The show gives me horniness, strife, fart jokes and ball tag. It gives heartbreak. Angst and all of the basics of humanity. And also we get to theorize about what the heck is going to happen next. We all theorize.
BTDubs, Kyra, just asking here, but did you intend to skip Season 3 episode 2 on the playlist?
I think your video description would be inaccurate, if the youtube "...more" didn't follow immediately after you said you were not ready lol
Love your reactions, but I got to ask. Do you live in a bowling ball factory run by pro wrestlers? 😂
i live in a household with a teenager, two dogs, two rabbits (fidget is very noisy), and two other adults and i'm in the basement with no noise cancellation so...might as well ;;;;
I love your reaction in 10:40
Please watch episodes 7 to 9 together and share it in one post
I respectfully disagree with this request. I prefer it when you watch episodes one at a time. It gives you the space to pause, talk, and "be annoying."
i will very possibly watch the episodes altogether and post separate videos, just to avoid a 5 hour long vid!
It's so peaceful and quiet for the most part.
...that's my family. i'm still at home. really happy for you though! :D
@@kyratries Oh, ok! Didn't know that, and thanks!
i...um...maybe already watched the next ep and it's scheduled for tomorrow, but i literally go on for 20 minutes about the twins and this whole...mess of their relationships because vex finally let my brain out of a choke hold. so yes, i totally agree with so much of this and please don't be surprised if you watch the next video and i'm talking about exactly all this!!
will percy ever be able to take vex's tits to the face and not have a little freak out? will percy ever be able to interact with vex in any sort of romantic/sexual way and not blush??? boy couldn't hand over his coat without keyleth fangirling in the background they were both so obvious ;u;
the animation for this show is so stunning to me. the characters are very simple and their designs are also pretty simple---i recognize this most with percy lacking a lot of his accessories that he has in the comics, but keyleth also loses a lot of extra details. but then they give us these gorgeous, almost watercolor backgrounds and scenery, the fights are so well choreographed and--yes--the lighting is so good in this ep, from framing vex walking down the stairs to the candlelight in the sex scene to the contrasting light of the hells and...i forget the name of the icy place, but the contrast there was gorgeous. so by sacrificing some of the original design ideas for the characters, i think that really allowed for these amazing fights and they make up for less detail in the characters themselves with every other little detail and i have a lot of respect for that decision. some shows you have really fancy designs for the characters but they end up looking like trash when animated because it's impossible to keep that much detail up, so there ends up being a lot of wide-angle, super distant shots. also the expressiveness the characters can have in their faces combined with the stellar voice-acting is something i would never give in for any amount of fancy designs.
Explain the thought process behind pausing to ask an empty room a question about a show you're currently watching.
probably talking to my rabbit who lives in that room and i sometimes hear him doing stuff :D
