Liam was really on his chaos for this one :D Good to see you back on CR. I thought I didn't like scanlan in CR1 until ep 85 of the actual play so I get your position on it
18:35 yeah I mean with Vox Machina the characters and their backstories are a lot simpler mainly just because a lot of the players were brand new to the game... They had never played before and so some of their backstories are kind of basic and classic... And then for campaign 2 the players have been playing for like 5 or 6 years at this point... So they felt a lot freer to really dig in and flesh out their characters backstories... Just be significantly more creative with the character creation itself. I think a lot of critters would agree with you. But there's very understandable reasons as to why that is. Vox Machina is basic because they had a bunch of baby players at the table.... It's really really common for peoples' first D&D characters to be basic.
You’d like it ☺️ The Scanlan arc towards the end of the campaign (not the show) is what made Sam create Nott the Brave for Campaign 2 - without Scanlan we wouldn’t have Nott haha
CAMPAIGN 1 SPOILERS . . . . . . . Sam told Matt that he would be withholding a spell slot during the entirety of the Vecna battle so that he could cast Wish afterwards and save Vax from the Raven Queens fate/death. But during the battle, the group was faced with the possibility of Vecna running away and begged Scanlan to cast Counterspell - forcing him to use the spell slot he had been saving for Vax. If you watch the moment in the campaign, you can see both Sam and Matt break under the emotion of the choice. Sam failing in saving his best friends character from an inevitable death at the very end of the campaign led him to create Nott the Brave - a character solely dedicated to protecting and keeping Liam’s character alive at all costs. Using that spell slot to cast Counterspell is single-handedly one of the most emotional moments in the entire campaign and the sole reason why Nott the Brave exists. Sam will never again let Liam’s character share the same fate as Vax in Campaign 1.

Scanlan definitely grew on me but Nott / Veth & FCG take the cake

Yes I realized! When the animation revealed his backstory for me I said ooooo I may have to go back and see how this was handled in the campaign!
