Wait, Chance did my ears deceive me or did you say you read Fourth Wing this year? You sir are a man of very diverse taste and I respect that. Hahaha
@@iSamwise who me?!? Did I?! I had no idea… no idea at all
Are you going to have someone line-edit your novel? At least with me, the line edit was the most important part which made my novel three times better.
@@momo_genX yes! A copy editor will run through it and then I have 2 proofreaders qued up as well. Very excited!
@Chance.Dillon I would be curious at the end to how much this all cost you. My manuscript is only 80k. Three thousand dollars for everything for this project. I am pretty stubborn. My book cover is probably considered a bad one, but it stands out. It reminds me of a standard 1970's or 80's cover, kind of a beat looking cover. It cost me 300 dollars and I'm sure I could have gotten a more contemporary cover for less on Reedsy, but I don't like that stuff. Sometimes standing out from the rest can be good or bad. I am stuck with it now, anyways. Feeling bad about no Kindle Unlimited hits, where I had 500 page reads from a short story a year and a half ago with a Generic Kindle cover creator cover. A week after the news broke about Kindle Covers to be associated with AI, and the KU reads stopped. I was hoping to have a repeat of that, with a better Cover, Blurb, and everything. Nope. I never really expected this novel to do anything. I was excited by my editor's feedback. I am just waiting for it to get into some reviewer's hands. I can't wait to see what they think. What's impeding that is Ingram Spark. 23 days and still not printed yet. We will see how wise the decision was for me to debut the novel solely as a Hardback for a few months. Probably a decision about as dumb as me enjoying old-school cover styles.
Dude that's a killer list! You gotta keep reading after Imperium, that entire series is incredible, start to finish, I honestly thought it kept getting better with each book.
@@AReadersJourney okay-That’s what I love to hear. I’m already sold 😂😂 honestly it’s been calling me back
@@Chance.Dillon I think it's in the book, where Tiro says it, but watching a naturally timid man rise to put his life on the line and defend what is right, time and time again, and defend the Roman republic, is like the most heroic frickin thing I've ever read

@@SpacedOutReads 😂😂 that’s why I’m so bad at catching up on reads… so much to read and so littttttle time. You have been a great influence of driving my interest of what to check out-and I’m glad I found your channel when I did
Just a curious question: what is your novel based on? I know I'm already gonna get your book when it releases, but the inspirations for it might give me a better idea of it.
@themangaculture I’ve pulled heavy inspiration from the world of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin’s Lore of Elden Ring and Steven Erikson’s Malazan-hoping to deliver on the massive scope of an ever delivering world of story. Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow, and Thorne and Joe Abercrombie’s First Law Universe were also huge influences on my writing. The cinema version of Lord of the Rings and Dune of course also played huge roles of what was playing in my head as I was writing.
@@Chance.Dillon Malazan and Dune. That sounds sick. Really proud of you, I'm planning to write a novel soon as well
@themangaculture thank you! Yes-I’m excited to hear more about yours then! Whatever you choose to offer
@@Chance.Dillon Obviously, I can't tell you everything as the story is consantly evolving as I shape it, but I'll tell you some things that won't change. Firstly, you have a similar taste as my favourite pieces of fiction are Sun Eater and Berserk (a few others as well) which I know you have. The setting is an atmospheric, fast paced and philosophical dark fantasy. The overall plot will be similar to The Stand by Stephen King, as everything will start normal, until everything collapses into an apocolypse. The difference between mine and The Stand is that the reason for the apocolypse is not the flu, it is caused by society's choices that cause a spiral into chaos. In other words, the reason for society's collapse is themselves. The main is trying to find himself in the process. It will have heavy influence from many manga, and some novels, movies and shows such as (apart from The Stand, Sun Eater and Berserk) the Stormlight Archive, Bleach, Tolkien, Vinland Saga, Star Wars, Tokyo ghoul, Fullmetal Alchemist, 20th Century Boys and dozens of other ones I can't think of right now. Sorry for the long comment
@ don’t apologize at all! Thank you for sharing all that you did! I hope you share it with the world and we get to experience it
So much exciting writing updates! I’m looking forward to all of it dude! Can’t wait to read some of it! And to see that cover!
@@N.A.Summur yesssssir! If you’re ever interested-shoot me a message on Instagram with your email. I can send you over some sample work
@ sounds awesome dude! I will do that!
This is wonderful, Chance! Very proud of you and also excited! :) Grateful for the constant updates. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
@@TedReadInstead merry Christmas Ted! Thanks for always stopping by. It truly does mean a lot.
Chance thanks for sending me the sample! I’m digging into it today and hoping to finish it over the weekend (if my little kiddo behaves and doesn’t cause too much havoc. Haha) I don’t say this to flatter but since I’ve been following your writing journey, this book has become one of my most anticipated books of next year! Keep it up! Can’t wait to see more!
@@iSamwise heck yes Sam! At your leisure of course. I’m stoked to hear your thoughts. Maybe we can get on a call in the new year sometime! I think it’d be great to just chat books
@@iSamwise I’m just terrible at setting live streams 😂😂
@@Chance.Dillon Yeah that sounds great! I’m sure we can get something set up!
@@Chance.Dillon now quick question here is the book called Mercy or Tears of the Fallen? (Sorry for the duplicate comments)
@@iSamwise you’re good! It’s Mercy (series name) book one is: Tears of the Fallen
So proud of you my man ❤🙌🏼 I'm so excited for this.
@@i_shubhamrai me too! But things on the way-ready to immerse everybody into the world
Congratulations on your manuscript going to the editor. After thousands of hours of work, a lot of it doing things that I am not that good at and hate like computer and organization tasks, my debut novel was published today. My editor is a professional with an MFA, but editing is not his main job, so it took a couple of months. Biggest thing I learned by hiring an editor is that you don't want them to be a friend. I had nine passes, close to yours before I sent it off. I was amazed at how many times better the book was after his couple of passes through his outside eyes. I wish you luck. I am concerned about the word count if the debut, because all of the advice I have received has told me that, although fantasy novels frequently have long word counts, from a debut offer it's not recommended to go past 120k for the unfamiliarity with your work. My recent disappointment story, watching a few sales come quickly from my small launch team, get a number one new release banner in the pre-order, and two days later that banner was gone and no new sales. We will see if anyone from Kindle Unlimited checks the book out to their library to nudge the book back up the ranks.
@@momo_genX stoked for you! It could spike here in the near future. What’s the title?? I’ll shoot a search!
@@momo_genX and thank you for the wisdom!
@Chance.Dillon I am itching to tell people about the book, its title, etc, but I best keep quiet about it now. I have authored it under a pen name, because my name is associated with controversy surrounding some of my first works. Some of the literature I have written has been called hate speech, though Amazon doesn't allow hate speech to be published on their platform. It's an LGBT satire, and people are sensitive about crude and offensive jokes, and I make mad fun of everyone in that 90 minute read. Being a gay man who is conservative and concerned that some of the "woke" views are destroying the arts and free speech, I gravitated towards the political after being personally attacked. I am also not well-liked by some in our BookTube community for jokes, but the ones that I feel I have a lot in common with have taken me in. I appreciate your interest in my new book, but I want to give it a while before I talk about it, as I want to see what I some key readers think about it before I talk about it. In the meantime, you can check out my work for free, short stories and satires, under my real name. Only a click away on my avatar face-hole. I have followed you enough to know you have a good sense of humor. Iskandaria and you would geek out laughing at some of my work.
@ rogerrrr that! In the coming weeks I’ll have to remind myself to dig in a bit
Only halfway through the video, and I stopped it, because I've already made up my mind that I'll buy your book when it releases. The prose and the vibe is amazing, exactly what I want in a book. Keep going brother!
@themangaculture wow-so stoked to here! There will be opportunities for early digital copies going out on substack come the spring! And a bunch of other stories in the world for you to get an itch scratched in that time!
So stoked on your book progress man! Super cool that you can see so much growth even just within that same draft
Thanks for the shoutout. You’re the amazing one, dude! I’m hyped for your chat with Okie; it’s gonna be awesome. 🙌 That edition of The Stand is really cool too. The fact that your mom got it for you makes it even more special. Bless her heart. 💖🙏 No judgment on taking it slow with Berserk. Those Deluxe Editions are absolute beasts to lug around! I still remember the struggle of shipping mine to Kuwait. Total nightmare... Great choice with Jack Shepherd. He’s a seriously talented map maker. 🎨 More Alevist content? Absolutely, yes, please! Your sister is a real one for helping you throughout this entire process. Respect! 🙌
@@slay.187 yesssssir! Slay-you’ve been an absolute pleasure along this journey. I hope the entirety of the book doesn’t disappoint and you’re here during the process. @@TomOrange ohhhhhhh ya. I think I can fit the rest of Clash in next month for me. So that’s quite a December:January. But I’m grinding away at the conviction arch for our discussion. The first was one of the more enjoyable experiences I’ve had on booktube
Thank you so much for the shoutout dude! The others sound so cool, I’m almost surprised you put me in company with them! Lol. But yes. It is pronounced just liked summer. Excited about the writing updates! Cover reveal is so close! And the talk with John will be great, I’m sure!
@@N.A.Summur yes sir! Of course. I think there’s too much good content I’m missing for those out there looking to get in on the community as a whole. Writers, readers and so on
@ there really are a lot of great people out there doing things!
You rock ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
@@ralphjenkins1507 thanks for coming to hang out again!
Exceptional writing, sir! Have you thought about a Kickstarter where you can have different tiers (including, for example, signed copies, etc.)? Perhaps that would help with any costs you're facing. Just an idea! :) Can't wait to get my hands on a copy!
@@TedReadInstead of course Ted! Thanks for checking this one out. The time will come for that. For now-I want to get the story into as many hands as possible so it can open a whole new discussion in the space. I’m grateful you took the time to check this out.
