Any opinion on dual wielding the wakizashi ? Thinking about picking up a couple!
The assegai was intended for use in conjunction with the Zulu shield. The shield was hooked behind the opponent's shield, with the opponent being thrown off balance with the short thrusting assegai used to the enemy's torso.
@LeeFist Martial Arts which one do you prefer?
@@laurafulton7023 wakizashi amd tanto
On it! Thanks for sharing.
Try more 150$ plus here in Canada it’s so sad
@@jacobkrill4751 sorry 😞 man
@ truly is unfortunate I really want to to make that wakizashi with katana handle
Awesome! I just got a Spontoon Hawk today! I am glad that Lynn Thomspon had the guts to make function weapons, and not just tools, or defang the weapons and make the tool like, but not good as a weapon. Men need weapons, free men and warriors live with weapons, weapon shouldn't be a dirty word, it is who is using the weapon that defines whether it is used for good or evil, all with the users intention.
My X wife used to say, just a couple of inches make all the difference ;)
My recommendation for a shield is the macarmoury tactical shield or my personal favorite their hungarian shield Its small enough to be carried easily and large enough to offer enough protection, its pretty quick and nimble and offers a great secondary optipn of attack I imagine it paired with some messer techniques it would fit perfectly with this spear
I just got one from Knife Center for 186.25 USD on a special offer. Edit: (1 month later) I should've mentioned it was the San Mai VG-10. Sorry 😅
@@mako8091 nice!
The reason why Ikwa was made is using those with pair with big shield againts bayonets on fast onrush when clossing distance beyond sharp point of enemy uwnwieldy weapon is crucial( ~5kg muskets) . And this tactics mainly works in trenches when enemy can backpeddal. For most centuries self defence weapons are swords. Thausands of warriors cant be wrong. If you dont go with shield chose sword or classic polearm. Completly dull saber or falshion can kill well. Its a myth you must often grind edge. If you need tool and weapon in one, use machete. Having hand on that short ikwa pole without crossguard is big disadvantage. You will lose fingers in second if oponent is not noob. Normal swords have a loot bigger range from hand to end point. Also in "zombie" scenario weapon that short who can mainly pierce and stuck in enemy is bad plan. Broken sword can also by remade to spear or dagger without special workshop. If you need a weapon to fight mindless crowd or to occupy larger space alone, choose a weapon designed for this purpose. Halberd. If you want to defend yourself against the ambush of a few people quickly end effective, choose also weapon designed for this purpose. Rapier and buckler
Excelente video gracias
I see you are superbly armed,as i do, love being well armed every day,(Kia Mataara), Maori for Be Vigilant, New Zealand.I have a shield bossed shield for my "Iklwa", Assegai.
If nobody has already...im claiming him for my zombie apocalypse team
@@garym51124 I have all the weapons you and ALL your friends will ever need!
Amazons got a deal on these as of 8/26/24 $149 so i picked up a second one can't beat that price!
Believe it or not the cold steel machetes(tactical tanto) are some of the most durable blades out there. They are cheap as well, make sure you buy the ones from South Africa, the new Chinese made blades are inferior.
@JuaneDosesII-wj6dd yes indeed. According to Lynn, they were first made in China for a short while before moving to South Africa. Apparently (some) of these chinese machetes were the best ever made. Notably the barong with Latin handle.
The algorithm brought me to this page... interesting topic. I am jealous of your sword collection.
i love all the swords too. But I believe he is an employee of Cold Steel (He says "We" A lot when describing what was done to the sword) So he probably doesn't own all of these.
I love Japanese wood chisels. Works of art.
You can find one of these for under $200 today I have seen them going as low as $170 the full retail price is so high.
Awesome. 😎
Thank you so much for your honest opinion and assessment of the Taiwanese version. The prices are excellent and affordable with nice quality. I now feel better purchasing the new Cold Steel Tanto.
Just wanna get one for display. My cheap "last samurai" 60$ sword rattles just from hanging in the sword rack. 😂
No its not as good :
Thank you for the comparison it was really helpful and informative.
Holy Cow I’m glad I watched this till the end ❤🎬
Liked and subscribed.
Thanks master for that little masterclass. I have Thai machete i will try tomorrow
Ouch my left ear! Fix your audio man
From an Escrimma perspective double Wakazashis would work awesome
Wakizashi and tanto
@@RichardLeeLeefist I get that but I love double sticks so double Wakazashi would be very natural for me
I have my 6 inch Tanto since 1986 and nobody is ever getting it off me ever. It took a while to get used to the feel but I will be taking it to my grave.
this will also make a great secondary weapon in the age of plate armour due to its overall similarity to the western European war hammer
WHY DOESN'T THE SOUND WORK?
Not sure it works for me?
Hi ..! I am not sure , cause I' ve got bad ears , but the sound of Nippon version is it not best than Taïwan version when the blades are cutting the air .?? Or is it just an idea like that ....?!!! ( Sorry for no - mystake i' am French 😁) .. & I ' ve just order one Magnum Tanto XII San Maï .. & may be I will order an other Master Tanto VG1 San Maï TM from Japan Ventura CA , mint condition for 348Euros ) . So in the Master Tanto Japan , the ricasso & " the spine " too seems more thicker , all the long of the blade ! than the new version from Taïwan ..! Have you see that too ..?? Thank' s for all informations every body ..
Both are exactly same thickness. But the Japanese one just feels better. Get one if you can
@@RichardLeeLeefist Hello . Thank for infos , I' ve just recept Magnum the Tanto XII San Maï & it 's a very beautyfull blade .! It 's a long and light blade , with the stongs Steels , there is like a " Flagrance " of the spirit 's Kami ..

@@RichardLeeLeefist Thank You for the Book , I just Know Series TV ( Toshiro Mifume & Richard Chamberlain ), not the Book .. But I had reading " Les Samouraï de " Jean Mabire " . @@krysdave2205 nice! I'm watching the TV series this weekend on DVD!
Awesome demonstration and discussion. I own the VG-10 San Mai and 3V 12" Blade Magnum Tantos and absolutely luv them. Well done! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
what knife were you wearing?
Looks like magnum tanto and voyagers. Its hard to tell I change the loadout all the time!
I'm considering this a hand and a half weapon it can either be used together with a shield 1 handed or used alone 2 handed a versatile design for tight spaces
Even double spear wielding is possible, but I rather use the gladius spaniensis...😅
Ha- I live on the outskirts of a rather Bad city and I have to go down to our parking lot every night about 12:30 -1:30-- to get in the car to drive me wife to work. I do appreciate that- there 'could be' Someone else down there at night checking out the area car's to break into or worse! So I bought a semi hard hiking stick that has a metal point at the end of it- hoping that this may help should I be attacked? Like you I know that the Assegi is an old Zulu weapon (Loved the flic!) but here I think the police would love to arrest me with anything like your Assegi- what do you think??
A stick is easier to get away with
You poor soul, you probably live in one of those countries where the right to defend yourself and carry a firearm doesn't exist. If I were you, I would invest in some self-defense or martial arts classes and carry some pepper spray. I would also suggest a self-defense umbrella, walking cane, or collapsible baton but that would depend upon your local laws. Specially the self-defense umbrella, they are extremely good and easily disguised, currently used by many bodyguard security services.
Sweet!
Whered you go man!
The Dragonfly Wakizashi (especially with the longer handle) seems to better fit the idea of kodachi. They were an alternate primary sword to the tachi. They were made for more up-close work and had a thicker, less-tapered blade. Tantos were the companion blade to all forms of tachi, seeming to mirror the concepts in Espada y Daga. Tachis were typically 31" long, kodachis no more than 24", uchigatanas were 25-27" and wakizashis were typically 15". Wrist and forearm strength don't increase linearly with arm length; so while the stated purpose was to scale wakis for taller folks, at least we can be grateful that we have access to a different style of weapon.
The Dragonfly wakizashi is f*****g amazing. I have the Dragonfly set but the waki is the best!
nicley done! where did you get your stands for the tatami mats?
had to make them!

the japanese version leans more on looking like a katana as far as the shape goes.
