I wouldnt want that dude hackin at me with a blade, I'll say that... Awhile back I bought a Taiwan AUS-8 Kobun. Can't say I like the scabbard much but the knife will never cut thru it and hurt the carrier... so that's a good thing. The knife itself, I have yet to sharpen it, seems to hold the edge really well. After a lifetime of bowie-type blades I was iffy on the Japanese-style but have yet to be seriously disappointed by the little knife. Got no need/use for a large tanto but have no concerns as to how one would serve as a business-knife if called upon.
Thanks for the vid, LeeFist, hope to see more from you in future!

So, I always admire 11inch+ blades for a single reason. Animals. Whenever youre fighting an animal, say a black bear or even a grizzly, they are stronger, faster and more powerful overall... what will give you the win is having 2 knifes 11inch+ so when the beast comes at you, you at least can doublestab the fucker. This is actually a true story, a guy was attacked by a grizzly and flew him 10 feet in the air and his firegun was nowhere to be found (he had it in his hand and the tackle made him eat so much shit the gun flew) so he took out 2 arkansas knife and said to the bear COME AT ME ! And the bear actually left!

I've had many Cold Steel products although never a SanMai steel variant. Always kept my eye on them though but over the years I have read some concerning reviews about them failing catastrophically and unexpectedly early and on the other end of the spectrum others say it is a super steel that is worth every penny. And most concur that the old sk5 knives were something special and should be procured whenever come across. But as with any mass produced knife there will be variables and inconsistencies fortunately today this percentage is relatively low in the "mid tier manufacturers range" (CS Spyderco, ESEE, Bencgmade etcetera).
Although It is still always a gamble as to which you will receive.
Don't know where I was going with that but yeah there's my two cents

Dont hear on all the bs on the innternet because people allways think theyre knife is the best. I think these are better than the old and better tetechnology then before and better steel. And less ricasso is great, gives you more edge. Buy one and be happy about it and love it. Taiwan is the new Japan.

@@bushcraft_in_the_north Absolutely agree: Could not initially understand why Spyderco's Vallotton was priced so high for a Taiwanese- manufactured knife, until one was inspected. It was completely flawless; the fit and finish were extraordinary. Thereafter purchased same knife, and have purchased other spyderco Taiwanese made knives, and the same was noted for these also. Thanks for this video, keep it up! I had the 7 1/2 inch Japanese version that I bought around 1996 or so before the sheath had a snap, it was just Velcro. It was stolen, and I was heartbroken after having it for almost 25 years. I recently bought the Taiwan version, and this video made me feel a lot better about it. I actually prefer the secure-x sheath for people commenting about preferring leather. I don't know if it will hold up for 25 years or more, but the leather sheath was a huge shortcoming of the original. There was no good way to carry it, and after sharpening the blade to a razer edge, it would cut though the sheath when drawing the blade. The original looked good as new until it was taken, and this new one seems to have the same quality.

The VG10 steel is still made in Japan has you say. The VG10 is supposed to be a upgrade. I prefer the leather sheath, the belt attachment on the securex is oversized. Cheap. Looks like it was made for a bigger knife. Cold Steel should make them to fit individual models. It has two slots for screws. It should be wider so you can put two screws on each side. Has for the plastic sheath they don't even wipe the plastic before assembly. So they are full of grit. When you get a new one they are scratched to shit. Ok if you are going to hard use it. Hi ..! I am not sure , cause I' ve got bad ears , but the sound of Nippon version is it not best than Taïwan version when the blades are cutting the air .?? Or is it just an idea like that ....?!!! It appears they’ve been discontinued. I found out about the Magnum Tanto IX in an EMP survival novel and the XII just a couple years ago. I thought they were a more recent model. I really wanted the black DLC in CPM 3V steel. I couldn’t find any but I did find it in satin. I might use gun blueing on it.

Mannn, for that kind of money I'd rather just buy the CPM 3V Taiwan version far far superior steel than anything cold steel has ever used before! I do actual have the madr in italy 3V SRK, Italy 3V master hunter, 3V pendleton made in Taiwan and also either the 7in or 9in 3V tanto Taiwan you just can't beat the steel choice all around for toughness, ease of sharpening and stropping back along with incredible edge retention and stability....
