THE OUTER SIDE Podcast - 4WDs, Camping, Fishing & More
I'm watching this at 11pm on a Tuesday night, trying to absorb what you're saying about legalities, why trying? Cause you are being drowned out locally by unregistered, unroadworthy (no lights) dirt bikes horning around the parks, lanes & back streets where we live. Christ, they drag race up the hwy, they're no longer pursued due to accidents & injuries incurred (a fatality locally) they've got no form of identification displayed allowing the law to call by home for a stirn talk and yet you get harassed driving registered, engineered vehicles. There lies the basics, if you're an easy target you'll get called in (by phone call in Timmies case, road stop for the general 4WDer) but if you can't be pursued or identified, well your left alone to continue repeating the offence, bloody joke. My thoughts on the issue. Way way back when 31" tyres were all the go, well the majority had them, we built up eroded gutters etc for that tyre, we all drove the gutter and anyone else coming along later could too. I understand the desire for 35"s but that is an issue all its own. Tracks get driven on 35's, Joe average turns up on 32"-33" and chops shit out of trails diffing out on gutters formed by 35's. We all need to leave a trail in good condition, road build when necessary to allow all to pass behind you, especially park rangers on their standard vehicles with standard tyres. If we all tried a little harder to maintain trails, well massive lift and tyres wouldn't be necessary. Ah, the good old days, common courtesy went a long way to tracks being drivable & open to drive. Rip Tear Bust has become the new normal and we are paying the consequences.
As someone that consumes way too many podcasts and just binged all yours over the last week I say well done, top content. I already listen to some Aussie Hunting ones and it’s good to see the crossover of the guests. They all have been great, with Ben Carceller’s one being a highlight, the community need more knowledgeable people like him. Nice work 👍🏻
I do love the current format, as a truckie I use Spotify alot 😂 i did orignal come for the 4wd content but loving the big variety. I think it's great getting the girls on the industry on aswell. I think the movement you are making is fantastic, I grew up in the bush and hate the way it's currently trending. Looking forward to next season stay safe on the roads 🤙
I can fully understand the tie at work BS.... i finally left working in the corporate world and I am now a professional fulltime roadie
As a new dad like you, your podcast at least kept my mind outdoors whilst I was stuck inside caring for my little ones. Only 1 camping trip in 3 years has been challenging but that will change this year. Time to share this great land of ours with the toddlers and fresh eyes. Look forward to seeing your next podcast series.
Loving the Podcasts mate. So glad you decided to do this. This type of thing has been missing in our community. Absolutely love the variety of guests you've had. I listen to you on the Spotify. I'd actually like a longer more organic type of interview, even if it went longer than an hour, if its interesting just do it. Dont pressure yourself to spit one out every week. Just release a quality product as it develops, and if thats every week or two or three, so be it. I felt some of your videos were cut a bit short.... I was left wanting more with most of your guests. The only one I thought didnt fit with 4wdrive camping outdoors genre was the motorbike dude. I think thats a different category that doesnt really interest me. I really liked learning about people I'd never heard of. Would be great if you get some National Park dudes or a relavent politician on there who's making some of these dumb decisions, locking up areas etc. A better system needs to be thought up and talked about. Your a pretty intelligent decent bloke, obviously, cause you drive an 80, me too by the way, 😝 and you make a great interviewer. You ask most of the things I get curious about. Your now one of my favourite pods to listen too. Keep up the great work and I'm really looking forward to your next season...👍
Great chat and episode lads, Tony your doing a top job mate! Love watching you on the tracks too bud
@@scottyplife32 thanks mate!
Try living in the NT where over 80% of where people used to be able to have freedom of movement to and areas larger than most countries have a race based permit system that stops access to roads, rivers, seas and most lands. But governments seem to be trying to stop Australians from being able to visit and experience most of our wonderful country. These increasingly removed from understanding ordinary people and experiencing our environment and the bush (they only seem to do it via taxpayer funded helicopters and first class airfares). Its no wonder kids these days only get to experience screens and never get to go camping or understand anyting outside of cities.
I’ve been a listening to this episode since the start, and I started listening as a 4wd owner and camping lover. When you released episodes with hunter’s I wouldn’t say I was super keen, but I learnt so much from those episodes. Was a great listen . The stuff they both had to say should be heard by everyone, and everyone should be educated about the ethical side of hunting. Wish I could hunt myself now. As a west aussie would love to see some guests from our state, if that’s possible. (Remember we call it a parmi too🍻). I’ve loved all your episodes, and love the diverse range of people you bring on. Love your work, keep it up mate👍
wish you the best of luck, it is getting pretty locked up out there, not just in new south wales,
Done, I'm sick of areas being closed off too.
what you said about shit boxes on the road is so true, my daily is an old ute that has the cats blown out, noisey and takes a kilometer to stop doesn't ever get any attention from the cops. my quiet ls1 gu patrol on 33's with upgraded breaks and the works, all engineered gets stopped almost every time i drive it. they can't defect me but they spend an hour looking over my car for anything they can find to squeeze a bit of money out of me or idk just to piss me off lol.
Done. Took 20 seconds. Do it.
Tony, thanks for having the nouse to start this and follow it through. The Aussie 4wd industry is saturated by visual content but not nearly enough storytelling in this format. I listen in audio format almost exclusively, but some of the episodes have been good enough to warrant a re-watch here on YT - specifically Kadeja, and Boe's episodes. Those two were left of centre for the mainstream 4wd industry and I flamin loved them. I suspect with the GME connect you already have the lads from Aussie Arvo's on the list, but they are legitimately turning our some of the most honest, high quality, relatable, and useful content today. I've met them a couple times at shows now, and find them just as personable and passionate in real life. I'd love to hear their thoughts on the lockups and changes going on in Vic vs what we experience in NSW. As to your question about duration - I like the format that Howie uses for the Howie Games poddy. Some are a single episode of 1-ish hour, but any longer chats, he'll split them over two weeks. I think any longer than 1.5hrs in a stretch is going to cause dramas, as people just don't have that time, even on a long commute (where I listen) but I'd be happy to pick back up next week with a 2-3 minute bumper at the start reminding me who you're talking to. Finally, and I know I've been stalking you across the socials a bit recently, I just want to commend you again for having the nuts to stand up as a serious leader in our community, and start the petition to the NSW government. It is so important as a community that we start to form up and use our alliances and be heard clearly, and this is a fantastic start. I think the response to the signatures alone speaks for the demand. Thankyou, and enjoy the break before the year kicks off in full!
Signed, hopefully this gains some traction & spreads nationwide
Your channel is absolutely spot on - honestly my go to because I get to see all the people I admire about there/your outdoor life style It inspires me to get out there
@@tomnayler7324 thank you, that’s exactly what I was hoping to achieve!
Great podcast mate! 🎙️ You got the voice for it, you got the character for it which is very important for the podcast to be successful. Very important topics covered for community so looking forward for next season. 🤟
If we fvcking pay for it let us fvcking use it!!!! Plain and simple!! This is utter crap 💩
Transparency is the problem here. Both sides are correct , it's the insipid nature that is annoying.
Interesting video, but there was no explanation as to what is intended upon said access, cos I know 4WD vehicles won't stay on the road/tracks.
All of the details are in the petition.
Tassie is on the right path for the other states to follow at least there you can recreationally register a side by side, which arguably is more suitable for certain tracks over a 2.5-3T 4x4.
Yeah for sure Rec Rego is a cool thing in Tassie. They also have a number of dedicated 4WD tracks managed by 4WD clubs which I think is awesome.
Signed ❤ All the national parks should be refured back to state forests and all Australians should be allowed access for recreational activities.
Open the gates, we need to have access to our whole country to enjoy love and see.
well said mate, we are seeing the exact results in victoria at present ,60000 hectares still burning in the grampians NP. the rotten thing is,half the local volunteers fighting the fire, would love to be able to shoot, foxes, goats, cats, rabbits etc,but arent allowed in....but,fellers we'll let you in to put out our fire caused by neglect and weeds gone crazy...idigenous flora and fauna stand no chance against noxious weeds and feral animals.
About time we get the gates unlocked, we live in a beautiful open country where everywhere is locked thanks to our dumb, no brain politicians.
I have been travelling around Australia for 18 years now. I have watched the Israeli Australian Government block every road into State Forest since Agenda 21 and that was their plan all along to stop the public from enjoying life. Being homeless I watched the Israeli Australian Government slander the homeless as illegal camper’s and literally outlaw homelessness. I remember when it was normal to go camping , to go surfing , to let your dog run on the beach whilst you got barrels , when a dog was allowed to do a shit. I remember when you could go to Byron Bay without paying to park , when it was normal to sleep in a van , when people sang songs and danced on the streets. I feel sorry for the youth whom now live in a rip off world under 24/7 surveillance , whom will never own land or a home , where freedom is illegal. A country where the apathetic coward masses have dropped the soap of compliance and turned into mortgage based economical standardised fluoro clown debt slaves. A country where politicians ignore mass murder to focus big businesses and digital passports.
Working again. Working again. Working again. www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/lc/pages/epetition-details.aspx?q=MMAqfeL-Ih-3c3QW5JyrcQ
Yep no chance, rejuvenation, protection of wildlife habitat or whatever there are many reasons they can close areas. Considering people are not allowed to take a dog into any part of a national park as it may impact wildlife, you have no chance. Sometimes they close areas for years, 4wd'ers etc create access and create damage and ruin years of rejuvenation. It is a few that ruin it for others but that is what it is.
@@kevwells I’ve never seen NPWS re-open an area after closing it, regardless of the excuse used to close it in the first place. That’s the point. Where is the accountability for this taxpayer-funded organisation?
@@theouterside They will always say there is an endangered plant, wildlife or whatever in the area that needs to be conserved. Everyone/everything has restrictions to what they can do or where they can go, I think it is justified mostly because of the 2%'ers that ruin it.
@@kevwells that’s the problem. 98% of responsible bush users get punished because of the irresponsible 2%. There has to be a better option. If we follow the same logic, why don’t we ban everyone from drinking alcohol because some people choose to drink drive?
@@theouterside It all depends on the severity of the problem. Maybe if the national parks had more authority over the users and could act on people that could change. Fines wont change peoples actions, Police won't police it, so until National parks get respect, unlikely 4WD'ers will give any respect back.
😂🤣Good luck mate! Gippsland is the biggest 4x4 population in the world! Yet, every track is slowly being closed to the point people get stuck after encountering a single locket gate! As an eg, a road that turns into a track, goes for 20km. No signs no nothing, it can take upwards of 6 hours at times depending on weather conditions. Needless to say, that gate gets pulled down every other week. But nation and state parks are no place to 4x4! It's protected by law for a good reason. Heritage and aboriginal resting place's as an eg! So know where you can and can't!!!
@@hulkgqnissanpatrol6121 I’m not really sure what you’re trying to say.
I know it's not everyone but there are a lot of dickheads who come up from the city in their 4x4s ripping up the tracks with their mud tyres and leaving their rubbish behind, I'm over it, padlock the lot I say. I see way to much of it out here in the central west of nsw and I've had a gutful of it.
I booked a campsite in a National Park, got the gate code, but the gate code did not open the gate. There was no one in the actual campground either. I had to drive to a place I could get mobile reception, contacted National Parks booking line whom the person said they would get someone out to help. I go back to gate and wait hours in the heat and no one came, I started to feel really vulnerable. No one came til next day and turns out they had to replace the entire gate code lock. It is a terrible system, what if there was an emergency and you were locked in not able to get the gate lock to open
@@CooeeAdventures sorry to hear about your experience, that’s unacceptable. Unfortunately I’ve heard many similar stories about the current campsite booking system, it quite simply does not work.
done
I’ve seen videos of fire trails that have fallen trees, one after the other. If a fire truck needed access it would take days. These trails need regular use to keep them service able. National Parks have no hope. With government after government declaring National Park after National Park to gain green inner city votes, there is far too much National Park and far too few $ to look after these areas. These areas were far better serviced when the public had access.
@@lindsaymccann8491 absolutely spot on
Great interview, great quest
@@CooeeAdventures thank you 🙏
They won't be lock if dumbass people clean up after them self
I don't live in NSW....so, to me, this is a non-issue!!
@@Boxy071 interesting perspective. Hopefully the situation is better wherever you live.
@ I wish you all the best in gaining access to the parks though 💯 👍
Where I live the destructiom caused is bad. We need to lock more gates and control the amount of people coming in amd the damage
@@cheekygoddess71 that is the exact opposite of what we need.
@theouterside The future policy us to let thise areas burn and to have ut rewind itself. When the Native title claims are settled and the UN is in management then the land can be used for climate related operations ie mining for minerals. It's part of their Managed Retreat policy. Removing peioke from the bush and ce training everyine into 30 minute cities and satelittle cities. Kate Mason did a good video on hiw it's being used in the Byron Bay area. It's happening world wide. Not just here. Part of the Globalist land grab. Pray the Comminwealth isn't dissolved like King Charles has been speaking. He is Klaus Schwaubs advisor. Then the Republic Paul Keating planned will go into effect. Worked out decades ago. Then the Government will own all the land and we will own nothing and be haooy with whatever we are given. It's why the migrants are flooding 1st world countries to reduce the level of standards. Make us a 3rd world country. Then we will beg for help. And thry will come to the rescue . First the weather wars.. To cause homelessness and famine. The jab to reduce immune systems and kill many upfront. Iver time it erodes the immune system (PFIZER PAPERS Expkains it all) then the 2nd viral release will attack thise the most. Then we get ww3 in earnest. We all ready are at war. Except its humanity against the Glibalists. They want us to fight each other. Not stand united. Already land title deeds have been revoked unknowingly by the public and a digital ine lasts y days. Under the law without a paper title deed you did not own it. Thus is the major fraud by the Glibalists using rhe banking system. As well as giving loans with money they don't have to then turn it into real hard assets when people fail to repay. It's a Global racket and everyone is well paid to keep it going and given 50 year careers to betray the people.
We need education and information campaigns. Over in USA they can access huge areas in vehicles with 40 or even 41 inch tyres on Jeeps. The messaging over there is "Tread Lightly" check out the website. I don't see youtubers in USA deliberately making content showing their jeeps ripping up tracks, they are showing the beauty of he area and they visit edges of volcanoes, narrow cliff ledges all unfenced no rubbish. Not saying USA is great, but seems that they have less restrictions over there and better messaging to allow tracks to stay open
Also can't sign the petition, it gives back an error
@@CooeeAdventures the USA is definitely way ahead of us when it comes to public land access for outdoor recreation. The website error is now resolved, you can sign the petition 🙂
fire breaks, strange. how wide is a fire break recommended.? if a fire can jump Pumice Stone passage, here in Queensland, any 3 to 9 metre open area is a joke. Australian bush fires jump kilometers at a time, or tree top and travel at incredible speed. under groth thinning is part solution, however that is now stopped as campers have to bring in their wood, instead of utilising the fallen fuel lying all around, millions of dollars are spent on mowing fire breaks to keep them open, let the 4 wheel drives go down these tracks and they will keep it clear at no cost to tax payer, they might also be encouraged to inform National parks of areas that might need attention before it becomes too bad, the criminal element may be less likely to use areas if people are present and the risk of them being seen is to high, block people out and the only people you will stop are those that care and follow the law. padlocks only keep out the innocent. criminals by nature do not give two hoots about the law, that is after all what a criminal is, a law breaker. open the parks, and monitor
@@markthornton1965 I agree with you. The more responsible people we have accessing these areas, the better.
you should also be aware national sparks and wild fires have closed roads that they have no control over, some of the roads closed are military roads, as was the case on moreton island, the military whilst over there removed bollards and re-opened many roads, crown land is there for the people, and as such people are allowed to make use of it, that use is constitutionally protected. up to 8 days of camping
@@markthornton1965 unfortunately I’m not surprised. They often seem to act as a law unto themselves.

Seen too many sites totally ruined by 4wd'ers who leave their trash and literal crap everywhere. That's why the gates are locked.
The primary purpose of National Parks is preservation of Flora & Fauna. That they can also be used for some recreational purposes by the public is a bonus. But in keeping with the primary purpose of these parks, it’s only appropriate that access to some areas is limited. Either totally or type of activity to prevent it being loved to death. If that means 4WD is incompatible in National Parks, so be it. Keeping them pristine forever is more important than a couple of extra tourism $$ today.
@@markboscawen8330 locking up public land, neglecting it, and waiting for it to burn, will hardly keep it pristine.
What about the environment being destroyed by solar panels and windmills, that’s way worse than a 4 wheel car going into national parks, this is getting insane
@ there’s definitely some big question marks over how ‘green’ some of the current renewable energy options are.
@@theouterside Hence why National Parks & Wildlife Service is increasingly using traditional First Nations fire mgt practices to help mitigate severe fires. Though how much land is burnt each year is weather & resource dependent.
@@tlb2970 Is the environment being ‘destroyed’ by RE? Sure it has a footprint. Though solar farms just have the supporting posts pile driven into the ground. At end of life they can be pulled out & the land easily rehabilitated. Can’t say that about an open cut coal-mining pit 40Km long & 10Km wide. The issue with 4WD vehicles ‘going bush’ in National Parks is erosion, habitat destruction, dumped rubbish & distribution of weeds into what is trying to be kept as a pristine environment. All of which are incompatible within a National Park. Which is also some of the reasons why RE systems are also locked out of National Parks. Making the point about RE ‘destroying’ the environment moot as it’s not as though 4WDers are being locked out & RE companies are being welcomed in.
Tony, your exactly right mate. I'm not a 4wd driver but I live in a rural area in Tassie. We the people are sick and tired of the grubberment dictating to us the taxpayer about how we access national parks or public areas. I do realise there will always be clowns doing the wrong thing and wrecking it for the responsible ones, but this dystopian communist Govt are denying hunting, gathering wood, prospecting, or driving in certain areas. You can't fish, shoot, or just set up the tent without a major inquest. They are stopping people from operating drones here in national parks as well, even for just simple leisurely photos or footage. Its like 'show me your papers at every step.' We have to take this country back. NP&W think they own the place. Well they are wrong. We the Australian people own this country and should have ready access to OUR land and public areas at any time even for gathering food, which is a basic human right. This is what happens when the population follow unconstitutional orders from politicians. If you do not know your rights as an Australian then you don't have any. The sheep lined up, the establishment has it's data. It knows how compliant the average Australian is.
If having locked gates helps keep 4x4’s, hunters & people like you out, then keep them locked. On behalf of all the flora & fauna you’re not welcome.
Ha, ha,now THAT'S funny! Forcing the government to act! Governments dont act, either side, or federal, state, and city councils. For the road openings? Not going to happen. The amount of rangers required to police the areas is astronomical in cost and availability. Campbelltown rangers have to police the lengths of neighbourhood lawns. Give it a rest! And we have a request for 6 billion dollars for cctvc. State cant afford to open the gates.
