I purchased the FTA-850L since I was going for my FAA Part 107 Certificate and plan on continuing my flight training from there. This is NOT a Ham or GRMS radio, but strictly an AM Avionics Transceiver.

Custom Made Screen Protector for the ICOM ID-52
Great information. Thanks for the clear explanations.
Try a discone antenna
As a ham, is there an all in one transceiver for both aviation and amateur ? I am learning to get my PPL and have had a FCC Amateur radio license since 1982. Love to have both 2m and aviation transceiver...
Looks great. Your shack ground rod should be bonded to your home ground rod though to prevent ground loops, provide a low impedance path to ground, and equalize voltage potentials.
Does Icom offer a microphone extension cable to go along with the separation cable???
If I am not operating during lightning storm and disconnect my radio and power supply. Do I really need a ground rod? I’m now aware RF ground is to eliminate noise. Thanks for the tips. I’ve been confused on this topic!
Finally a usefull video on groups setup, thank you. Coming from an Anytone DMR and the phraseology on Icom confused me. Good info, thanks again👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is it possible to run just the scope without the waterfall?
Nice work... How did the Hot Glue hold up to the elements ? Thank You KC3ZDW 73
Looks great, but might I add that you use a bronze grounding connector on the ground rod. It would be much better if you used a single barrel lug to attach the #8 to your ground bus.
When the automatic function is on, does it also make the change to the repeater tone automatically? Thank you for the video. It was very helpful.
Informative video. Suggest that you turn off the Beep for videos. They sound louder on the video than you may hear live.
I'm wondering this thing works with tablet touch pencil ? Anyone knows ?
How does one handle memory bank programming?
Yaesu really missed the mark. Smaller screen, more physical buttons. It's 2024. How about bluetooth pair to phone, full programming access in the app, integrated ARRL repeater book, freq banks, APRS messages from phone? Yaesu still making radios like it 1996.
Man. Only hearing audi out of the left channel was meh.
GigaParts no longer has this antenna. Or i can't find it on their website. The tallest they have is 25ft.
Is there correct to put SWR meter between a coax and a transceiver? Thank you and "73" .
Great video! Showing the location and connections of everything helped me get a better idea of how to do this. Your shack is awesome! Thanks for the great video!
I'm just having trouble setting up the channel. How do I set the steps
Great video! I've been hearing good things about these!
Hi how I can the band end configure sellf in the frequency range?
Thanks for video. Until recently, I was unaware you could purchase rope specifically made for guying. Before that, I bought some rope from the hardware store and it lasted just 6 months. The rope I have now looks similar to yours and has held up all summer with no signs of deteriorating. 73 AI4ES
Keep your antenna structure standing by following these simple tips. Don't jeopardize your equipment or anyone's safety by having your antenna come crashing down.
Thank you.. i want one now
Thnx for the video. I found it useful. 73! SA6KOL
BT remote makes radio crash. no good! total garbage!
Can anyone explain to me how to input the longitude coordinate. -77.8596 ? How do I find the Minus - before 77?
Just wanted to say, thanks. I don’t play radio often, but received a text this afternoon that the local club’s van/repeater was going on air for a test. That is when I realized I didn’t know how to manually set the off-set for the repeater. Consulted the op manual, but your video helped. 73.
I don't know who actually manufactures this antenna, but I have seen the Comet CHA-250, the Diamond BBV-7 and the Jetstream JTV680. Same package, just a different name printed on the big plastic envelope. I got one used at a hamfest, the Jetstream versions, and it says nothing about minimum recommended elevation when installed. Mine is up 10 feet and my SWR matches their specs except on 10 & 6 meters. I consider it a utility antenna. I run FT4 & FT8 on mine primarily on the 60M/40M/30M/20M bands at 5 - 15 watts. It works. tThe he tilted full-wave loop for 40 meters with a tuner at my last QTH worked better, but my urban lot is too small for that antenna. I seldom rate anything on the questionable (x) Stars out of 5, but maybe a 4 out of 5? The poor performance above 20 meters was disappointing, but I have other antennas there... De WB2VUO in Amherst, NY
I bought my Comet CHA 250-B antenna. It came with a box full of rocks. You can throw a rock further than you can talk on that antenna. I sent the antenna back but kept the rocks.
I don't understand 1 thing here, so help me out. As this antenna is typed as a Ground plane antenna (as a lot 1/4 wave verticals are) I don't get what are you using for the ground plane? Otherwise you would need radials.
Great Job! Thank You :)
thank you
In my case, the 'shack' is 2nd floor, diagonally opposite the building electrical ground. Running a cable to that home ground would be about 80' minimum. So you are saying that I can drop a rod on the corner of the house that the shack is at?
Excellent content. Very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for this video
Nice video.... I ran all my cable in burried conduit with lighning arresters at the base of the antennas. The arresters are connected with braided cable to a nearby ground rod. I also installed a ground rod within a few feet of the shack for equipment ground. I did not connect the shack or arrester grounds to the utility ground. I consider the utility ground a safey ground. The ground is in common with your neighbors and POCO. That said; you or your neighbor could have a malfunctioning water heater (shorted element to ground) and not even know it. That kind of short would place a whole bunch of noise and current on the the utility ground. IMHO: I like to keep my shack "technical ground" seperate from the utility. Three wire power cords to power supplies are never isolated from the utility ground. Radios, tuners switches and arresters are connected to the "technical ground". (isolated from utility). I am itching to connect my "technical ground" to the utility ground and measure the current between the grounds with a clamp on amp-probe. Fricken high bandwidth amp-probe is north of $5K.
Hello sir! I’m in Mobile, AL and need some help. I’ll buy lunch and a taco for your help. I have a D75. Call sign N0AJX. I can certainly come to you.
This video boils down to this: For base station HF use RG-213/U For base station VHF/UHF (2m/440) use LMR-400 For mobile use RG-58 That's it.

Yes DX engineering is my choice of buying always had good success with them 🤗
How do you change the mic audio control? many complain that my audio is too low on the analog repeaters. THe digital is fine.
Great 'down to earth review' - I was on the fence (overwhelmed by features) but decided to buy one after watching your largely non-technical but common-sense review - thank you (ve3ega)
Very understandable video, thank you!
. Thank you for the info!
I do have a limited space and that's the reason why I bought one the problem is that this antenna is complete deaf, the SWR is good on all bands, except 80 meters, but if I can't listening nobody I can't transmit. So I decide to remove it from my roof.
Great T-shirt!!! Yes, I know what it means.
Why you need to program the yeasu 850-L?
I want your codeplug. My mother lives in Gulf Breeze.
