Ontario RAT Model 1.5 Knife Review - The Prefect Bug Out Kit Knife!
𝗢𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗥𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝟭.𝟱 𝗞𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 - 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝘁 𝗞𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲!
One of you mentioned this new RAT Model 1.5 (in MAGNACUT!) in the comments of one of my videos. That sent me on a mission to check it out, which led to me finding one of the for sale (brand new) for about $85! (Link below). There are surprisingly few other reviews out there for this knife. So I decided to add this to the collection so we’ll have a good MagnaCut blade that we can add to the Cut Testing series. If you’re looking for the perfect knife for an emergency or bug out kit, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better knife - or a better deal - than this one.

There’s gonna be a lot of “I TOLD you so!” happening after this one. Spyderco Tenacious on Amazon: amzn.to/4gMbTVt KPL Knife Shield/Cl...

𝗖𝗝𝗝𝗥𝗕 𝗣𝘆𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗥-𝗥𝗣𝗠𝟵 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 Here’s the next installment in our Redneck Cutting Tests series. The CJRB Pyrite Light is one of the top rated EDC knives for 2024. I own both the Rat 1 and Rat 2 in S35VN. My Rat 1.5 is set to be delivered tomorrow. I also own the models 1, and 2 in D2, both have been retired since I got the S35VN versions. I'm so excited to get this 1.5 in tomorrow. Also paid $85 for it on Bladeworks website.

      It's definitely real Magnacut. This is a totally legitimate knife company and I bought it from a reputable knife dealer (not Amazon). And even better, I'm seeing reports that it has a really good heat treat too! That's a huge bonus. It's one of the best deals I've seen in quite a while (for a real knife). 😉 🙌

    How well did the PVD coating last? Any sign of use after the test?

    • @BladesOnABudget
      @BladesOnABudget День назад

      I'm sitting here looking at it. You can definitely see "swipe marks" where it was cutting thru the cardboard (which wasn't really that much). None of the coating is completely worn away. You can't see the steel underneath or anything like that. It's basically "shinier" than the rest of the blade. The PVD is a very flat/matte color. Where it is worn, it becomes more shiny. Overall, I have no issues with the wear. It's nothing I didn't expect to see. Like I said, no steel showing or anything, so it held up well. But it's definitely not DLC. You can see some swipe marks. Hope that helps.

    Good to see your are giving the Rat 1.5 a try. I like mine, it's very utilitarian and just the right size for my taste in an EDC knife. It's hard to beat this knife if your looking for a solid no nonsense blade made with great materials at a price anyone could afford. I have found for my self that a toothy edge on a blade works better for most daily cutting jobs. I find the highly refined polished edge is not really worth the effort unless you are trying to whittle hair or just like the look.

    • @BladesOnABudget

      I've heard a few people say that. Their search algorithm seems to show each person a completely different set of results. Try doing some searches for "titanium pocket knife" or "high quality folding knife". Then click on a few of the listings and scroll thru each of the photos. That teaches the algorithm that you want to see more like that. Then it will start showing all of them to you. Maybe even put one or two in your cart. You have to train the algorithm like that. I see nothing but knives when I open their site now. 🤷‍♂️

      Sorry. I think there have been a bunch of reviews with the knife just coming out a week ago so Amazon sold out quick. You might also try the Vosteed website. They have a brown micarta & a sweet looking “storm trooper” version in stock at the moment. But they do say “low stock”. All other versions are sold out.

    What is the difference between a (plunge) button lock and a button compression lock or are they the same?...

    • @BladesOnABudget
      @BladesOnABudget 5 дней назад

      The plunge lock is the “old style” where the button itself is holding the blade from closing. Some of those can fail with a spine whack. The button compression lock (same as button “top liner lock”) has a liner lock (similar to Spyderco compression locks) where the button simply pushes the liner out of the blade tang to release the blade. Those are usually much stronger & less likely to fail. But still fidgety. Best of both worlds.

    Great, now all I can think about is folding knife coitus... 😅 Got my Ozark Trails D2 Walmart knives delivered today 🙌 I got the black and the green version. Both of those have the coated blade those, so I'm worried that it's not going to be the 61 hardness as the orange handle with the plain blade. So far, for 10 bucks, they both can't be beat. Good thing that knife isn't $49.99 😅 Thanks, Fred

      😂 Can’t resist a good steamy knife romance story! Go cut a bunch of stuff & let us know what you think. Are those still D2 versions? I’m worried that they might try to sneak some other cheaper metal in there while we’re not looking. 🤔

      This one is really good. Can’t imagine this NOT being in the top 10 at year’s end. But we do still have a long way to go this year… 🤔😂

    That was a very entertaining and fun video to watch and unlike any other knife channel which is what made this pretty fun. I’m in.
