Traditional (and historical) Ghanaian Christmas Recipe (Plant Based Friendly)
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
I share this recipe every Christmas because people forget about it every year. Atidua and bayerɛ (yam) ampesie (can also borɔdeɛ, which is plantain) ampesie is a traditional Asante Christmas enjoyed during the holiday season. As many Ghanaians traditionally did not eat a lot of meat, these dishes featured heavily on the Christmas table. It is one of many plant-based Ghanaian/West African meals ...

I thought the porridge was teff (my fav) but I learned a few awesome gluten free breakfasts!! Thank you for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed it. You can totally use teff for any of the recipes I shared.
These meals look so good!! Millet porridge is my favourite! I really want to try it with sorghum now though! I'm going to see if I can find some!
Love it
These all look so delicious! I have some buckwheat in the pantry and am inspired to toast it and make pancakes!!
would love to know how it goes
Never watch these videos when you’re hungry
I have laughed so hard before ‘ colonising there recipe 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant ❤🎉❤tasty and Vegan 💚🌱💚🌱perfect
Now this is what I call creative! Awesome recipe! Once summer comes around here I’ll be trying these. It sounds absolutely delicious!
Looks yum
Love your videos, as a jewish person whose mum is South African, Israeli and American (immigrant). I’ve been looking to get more into other African cuisines 🙏 thanks for your content
Lovely,it kinda of looks like indian food
Looks so yummy
Sehr gut bei Cholesterin und Herzerkrankungen😂.
So cook it like potatoes What does it taste like. It's not available locally for me, but if it's good enough, I can grow it.
This was the reminder I needed! I have some Moringa powder and Hibiscus in my pantry. Loved learning about these drinks

this warms my heart
thank you!! 💕💕💕💕
I‘m a vegan and recently became very interested in African food. I quickly noticed that there is so much to learn that it feels overwhelming. I’m so happy I stumbled over your channel. It is so valuable as you give a lot of insight and explanations. Thank you so much for your work. Love from Switzerland ❤
thank you for stopping by
I’m so thankful I found this channel ❤
Looks so good. African food is so filling which I love. Who wants to be sick and starve
Thank you, such amazing ideas (and information). Among the three I've never tried baobab but I love (like love love) hibiscus tea. ❣
Came here from Instagram. I’m delighted to know that you’re focusing more of your time on RUclips.
If you don't have a clay pot...can you still make Jollof rice in a cast-iron pot??? Everything looks Amazing by the way.😋💐✌🏾👑
I will not recommend just raw cast iron because tomato has acid, which can affect the iron and flavour. You can try a cast iron that is enamel
@eatwithafia >>> Thank you for the quick reply....So, Dutch oven, it is....most definitely will give it a try. Again, thank you.🫶🏾💐✌🏾👑
So looking forward to your content this year. Would definitely love a Baobab soup recipe. Get your recipe book out before they do❤
Awesome tea ideas! Thanks for sharing. Where in Toronto can I get baobab powder?
literally anywhere, amazon, health food stores, I bought mine from amazon
i usually include details in all my blog post so if you are curious about where to source anything I share on my page, the info and links will always be in the accompanying blog post :)
That tiny grater for the ginger 😂 it looks so comical but it was clearly the perfect tool for the job!
Thank you for sharing! You taught me baobabs have flowers and fruit 😮 Learning even more would be wonderful 💛
Thank you for spreading knowledge on West African cuisine ❤
can you make it with yams
Ohhh I’m coeliac so I thought I couldn’t eat this, I thought it was flour based I can actually make this!
Yummy Yummy looking ❤
PLEASE DONT EAT ME (MY NAME IS SHEA)
This was such a great and informative video! I fully intend to recreate this meal
This looks so delicious! And such a beautifully made video :)
@@dollybb4820 thank you!
Afia have you made an episode with garden egg stew yet? If you haven't can you do one? I want to see what your fish substition will be. Garden egg stew with roasted plantains or boiled yams use to be one of my favorite meals.
Hi, I have a recipe on my blog and a video on this channel. With my dietary choices, I am not always looking to substitute the flavours of animal products (fish is a hard smell for me) so I just stick to the vegetable and add other things like tofu or plant-based eggs. Hope this answers your questions :)
You’re the best, including traditional ingredients and not packages of unknown to me spices is perfect. I can make this😊. One off topic question is I see videos where the raw cassava is not fermented, do you have knowledge for me on this and those using food processors.
i have a short on this very question. We do not ferment our cassava in Ghana, so most fufu videos with unfermented cassava are usually Ivorian or Ghanaian versions.
@ I subscribed to your channel just a couple of hours ago and intend to watch very video. I think the videos were mostly about Nigerian Fufu. I’m African American and have longed for traditional recipes
In the US South, particularly in the Southeast Georgia and North/South Carolina area, these peas are called sea island red peas. You can order them from organic farmers and purveyors from the area. When I order them, I clean and soak the beans overnight. I cook the entire bag and freeze into smaller portions for easier, quick meals.
Just came off TikTok to make sure I can see your content elsewhere. Thank you so much for your dedication in preserving the cultural foods. As an African American I need this connection to my ancestors
I just want to say THANK YOU!
I'm going to try this, if it spoil a soh.
such a big fan, can't wait for your cookbook, ill order it bc these recipes blow my mind
Open a restaurant were u teach and people can go to eat as well. 2025 food for thought
i do not have the skills to be an enterpreneur
@eatwithafia find them ! I think your Content is great and the concept is impressive. Just think about it. Hopefully you turn this into a real reality. We never know how we can be something out of nothing ! Believe in yourself more !
Where can I find atidua leave in Accra?
I think the larger markets like makola, texpo, nima or even tema market, the people who sell spices probably sell it or know someone who does
Can’t wait for your cookbook.
@@juleeo.357 Oh, me too
AGREED!!
Afia I'm learning so much fro you. I can't wait for your Cook book to come out. I love how you veganize African food.
Learned so much from this channel. This country white boy from Texas has a new favorite cuisine. 😂🙏🙏🙏
thank you!
I have never tried baking jollof even though people do it, I’d like to ask if it has the Smokey taste like funeral jollof
@@priscillapelig-ba1672 not really Smokey because is more with firewood, this is clay so not the same thing 😊
Very super cook fufu
