Judy Collins warbling Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now right after the cult cries “Hail Paimon!” and that final disturbing shot of the treehouse from hell, always makes me laugh. It’s just so incongruous from what has come before. It doesn’t fit and it seems like Ari Aster’s final practical joke on all of us. It’s actually brilliant. And then I got a copy of the lyrics: Silly me. What was Joni trying to say to us? Well, she wrote love songs right? All she can see are “ice cream castles”, and now that they’re broken up she realizes she doesn’t know clouds at all, what they actually portend. And sure, because the same thing happens every time, naturally “doesn’t know what love means at all. But then there’s the last verse. She is a total wreck. It’s actually life that she doesn’t understand. The only things she remembers are the illusions. Because life itself is an illusion. She doesn’t really understand. And that’s really what Aster is trying to say. And then the prayer that sounds like a Bible verse, but really isn’t. In the midst of life we are in death. You better cling to it for all you’re worth. Because that’s it. It’s all we’ve got. It’s a sad state. It’s a dark film. But I would still rather have it, the illusions, the limited time than not. And I’m so glad that I keep getting to experience it, in the form of Joni Mitchell songs and Ari Aster movies.

I knew my great-grandmother well as she died at the age of 96 when I was just shy of turning 28. In this case Miguel actually remembers his great great grandparents as he met them. So if Miguel has a long life they will be remembered for a very long time. I cry every time Miguel sings to Coco.

Yes, I'm watching again lol. I might be 1/2 your views. I'd actually join the patreon but I did for another channel, and the whole videos are covered with copyright and have no sound. I don't want that to happen again. Anyone know? Anyway. In the book when she kisses Jacob, a future with him runs through her mind. She sees their kids running in the forrest. A wolf as her protector. Charlie visiting their house. And she realized he was the easier choice. Possibly her natural path if vampires didn't exist. In the scene in jakes , she tells him she always thought of him as her sun, keeping the clouds away. He says he can handle the clouds, but he can't fight an... wait for it... Eclipse. It's much more moving in the book than the movie.

I have watched this movie a million times and cry every time. I was watching your reaction video while getting ready for work and I couldn't put my eyeliner and mascara on because I was tearing up 🤣

In the Blu Ray extras, they showed a documentary about a luthier who made a real life version of that guitar. You wanna see beautiful? It's cool in the film, but breathtaking as a real guitar.

Spoilers . . . . . . The whole story only happened so Miguel could clear his GGF's name. The guitar in the shrine to DeLaCruz really belonged to Miguel's GGF, so it wasn't graverobbing. That guitar was Miguel's by birthright.

To your question about Pixar movies: many of them are chocked full of life lessons and all of them (even the less popular ones) are good to excellent stories. My wife and I would always try to catch them in the theater even before we had kids because we knew they just didn’t miss. Encanto is another one with similar themes of family trauma in a Colombian family. Up is one that doesn’t focus on another culture but is a masterclass in tugging at the heart strings.

I know it might sound weird but I loved to see you cry. It's such an universel experience whenever we watch a movie or listen to a song that makes us cry. It's something we can all share and understand, something that connect us. Thank you, it was a lovely reaction

I havent seen anyone mention it so, Dante is a mexican hairless dog breed called Xoloitzcuintle. Its one of the oldest dog breeds and thought of to be a divine gift from the god, Xolotl the god of death. They are said to be guides into the after life.

México was and is a country where machismo and patriarchy are still very much the norm, so having two female family members you were directly and solely responsible for providing for and then choosing to leave them to pursue the performing arts is literally an unspeakable and unforgivable act. It’s why Imelda turned out so “masculine” and hyper-independent, and why her alebrije is so fierce. Jabberjays are genetically altered birds that the Capitol created to spy on the districts, and repeat the conversations of the rebels, back in the war. It didn't work, as people figured it out really quickly, so the Capitol left them out in the wild to die....except they didn't, they cross bred with female mockingbirds. That's where mockingjays came from. (They can't speak words like the jabberjays can, but can repeat melodies)
