How to Make an Elderflower Turbo Cider 6% ABV
How to Make an Elderflower Turbo Cider 6% ABV from store bought apple and elderflower juice.
Hey folks! It's been AGES since I've made a turbo cider, so I decided to get back on that horse and get one made. I went to Sainsbury's and purchased 4 litres of apple and elderflower juice from concentrate and combined this with some spring water, brewing sugar, pectolase and wine yeast to make a very simple turbo cider.
Fermentation was fast and after bottling and conditioning the cider is a delicious medium sweet profile with a flavour that is more aking to a perry. It was a very easy cider to make and tasted quite delicious.

Do you have a video on the tomato wash?
Does the turbo yeast already contain yeast nutrients - if so the tomato paste is not required
Liked your review. I've just checked pizza express menu and the garlic bread you showed is valued at £6.65. The other bags were very good value. Thanks for sharing.
👍👍👍
👍
That was a good outcome KUDOS to you Sir, Oh by the the way..'Panthers' fan here 🍻🦘.
I've binge watched all your turbo cider videos.. hopefully you make more 👍
Been waiting for a turbo cider again, and this sounds like a fantastic one. Got loads of apples on the trees and plenty of dried elderflower.
looks good buddy, i have 5 gallons of cider just about to finish to pop into a keg, one tip to stop the Krausen eruption through the airlock is dip the tip of a toothpick with oil, any cooking oil will do and literally the tip only ( about 0.000001ml lol), swirl it into the ferment after the yeast, it changes the surface tension of the liquid at a microscopic layer and stops a thick krausen foam, i got a "antifoam" in a kit once that also works very well but the oil trick is cheaper and also works excellently, plus the yeast consumes it nearer the end of fermentation as a nutrient. same also works in the still, add a teaspoon of butter or oil, it stops it boiling over or "puke"
I already made similar recipe but with real flowers and addition to lemons and oranges plus pears! for two times a year, it was amazing reminds me elderflower wine with citrus tartness. Yours sounds nice too! beautifully clear. Turbo Cider as you don't need real apples but juices that already made rather other than that it works same way as regular cider but quicker. Maybe you could add more real elderflowers next time.
Beautiful!
Great video mate we love a good to go bag in out house but living in bridlington we dont have much choice its either cooplands or costcutter lol Keep the vids coming highlight of my monday are your videos 👍🏻
Hi Dan, it’s so funny to read this as I was in Brid this afternoon and tried the TGTG app to great disappointment. I’m currently in Flamborough and there’s nothing here. Living in a big city definitely has its advantages with TGTG! 👍
Haha yeah flamborough and brid are dead this time of year after the school holidays the place dies for winter and picks up again about Easter time! Yeah yeah I do love a good to go but it’s very limited 😂
Wow! I have potatoes 🥔 ❤
👍👍👍
Bloody hell stuart,I can taste it now! Over here in Australia we have chicken salt that you can get at the chippy, that’s also a taste sensation!
How much is (sic) "half a type of tomato paste"?.... I use about 250 grams T Paste for 25 litres wash....
I probably said “half a tube”
Hello I think that your video tutorial's are brilliant, I only wish that I had started this journey years ago!! I am new to brewing and have a couple of tc on the go. one is 20l of aj, abv bumped up to 9.5% with dextrose & honey ( ran out of dextrose!! ) which I was going to flavour with flavour liquid drops that you have been using in your videos, in 5l batches when I bottle. The other tc I have on the go, using apple & mango concentrate, it was meant to be just a 1 gallon dj to try, but I added too much syrup ( taken from your Perry video) would have finished @ 12 odd % so bought more aj & m concentrate split the lot between two dj and was going to bottle prime with some mango concentrate & hopefully get back down to around 9%. My main question is: I want to try your Perry tc recipe using the half pears in juice but how does it compare with a store bought Perry cider? I really love the Lilly's bee sting Perry but it is a little light @ 6% from memory. Hence wanting to try your recipe! Sorry for the essay!! Regards Lee
Hi Lee, Thanks for the comment and kind words. You're brews sound great! I'm going to be COMPLETELY honest and tell you that I can't really remember the exact taste and nor have I had the Lilly's. BUT I seem to remember that it was a dryish cider and I suspect the Lilly's isnt. I've recently made an eldeflower turbo cider (next week's film) using Apple and Elderflower juice from Sainsbury's and weirdly it has turned out like a medium perry, so maybe give that one a go? See the film next Monday at 16:00, I've literally just uploaded it. Cheers and Happy Brewing! Stu.
@@MossHomeandGarden Hello Stu Thank yo for taking the time to reply. Your right the Lilly's is a sweet/medium sweet Perry, but I was going to add some wine sweetener to my taste when I batch primed the bottles. I might as well give it a go! The elderflower turbo cider sounds very nice, I will have a look at the video. Keep up the good work 🥂
You made my mouth water!
Thanks Sue!
Nice job making onion salt, didn't know you can actually make it I'm surprised, might give it ago myself! would it stink when you made it however? Clever idea using recycled jar while making! I reckon would be a great way to session your burgers, meats etc.
It's surprisingly easy and healthier than regular salt. Glad you liked the film.
if you cage the bung, how will it stay in once pressure occurs? the pressure wont hold it long so and might explode. How does it help?
If you wind the cage tightly, it grips beneath the lip on the neck of the bottle (see a close up of a picture of a champagne bottle). The grip is sufficient to hold the bung in place. I've never had one pop out yet.
now that is a cracking piece of kit stu, nice one, all those flavours in a cider....nice 👍
You're not wrong Darren, it's a beauty and it has transformed my cider making. No more mashing apples through a sieve for me!!
Greetings from Norway, a fellow "Winemaker" since I was 20, 33 years ago.. Still learning.. Thanks
Greetings, I think with this hobby, every day is a school day! Cheers!!
I think that you are supposed to grind the malt and make a grist before you mash it with hot water. Try that next time and you will get much better results.
...now that makes perfect sense!! Next time I do an all grain I'll ensure that I do that.
Nice video, thank you. I liked how you measured before and after. 🌻
Thank you, it is the best way I think to understand the process.
Isn't distilling illegal in the UK, even for home consumption?
I actually don't know, but it's less than 5 litres per year from me so hopefully I won't get my knuckles rapped if it is!!
Thanks for this. You can get the peas (Red Fox AND Black Badger varieties) mail order from a firm called Hodmedod's. They are still sold hot, with salt, pepper & vinegar, as a snack on Preston Market. Another traditional way to serve them is with hot, with butter, brown sugar & rum. This sort of dried pea, along with the type of small, dried broad beans known as field beans here and fava beans in America, were the protein staples for the population of Europe and the Middle East for thousands of years. I don't know why we've virtually stopped eating them in Britain! They're still popular abroad. Well done for spreading the word! x
Wow! Thanks for this super information Felicity, very appreciated, I managed to find a couple of places now that sell them online so have quite a few bags in my cupboard, in fact I'm goin to put some on to soak right now! Cheers!!
15%?! Talk about tails! Yuck!
That was a while ago, I like to think i'm a bit better at this now...out of interest, where would you stop collecting in terms of ABV output?
Sugar blend fine in 20 degree water, just stir it in 10 liters.. Takes 15 min, stir 2 or 3 times- and it is super clear.. No watts wasted.. I used ur method before, but there is no point.. Just work
Fair enough, I'll try your method this Winter when I do my next wash.
Happy birthday Stuart! That wine sure fit you right in! Two years is quite a good one for aging! Bonffee semi-sweet wine sounds nice. You must to add sweeters hence sweetness. I attempt to do Cyser with lemon and rose next year!
Thanks aaron! Your Cyser idea sounds nice...
@@MossHomeandGarden Welcome! Thanks Moss, hopefully i can find the rare honey lemon.
Hi mate happy birthday. My vimto cider is fementing very slowly. Slow bubbling. Is this a problem? Other ciders I've made have bubbled loads quicker!
Don't worry about it, the preservative in the Vimto usually means a slow start, slow and steady is better than fast in my opinion.
@MossHomeandGarden your a legend mate thanks for getting back to me
No worries!! :)
14% Abv é mais que muito vinho que vendem por aí! Cheers 🍺🍺🍺
Sim, foi uma boa! Saúde!!
Happy Birthday. 👍
Cheers Darryl!
BRILLIANT ! ! ! / / ∆ \ \ 💯🏆💜💗💓❤️💞💕💖💘🤩🥰
You can get them in Holland and Barrett 😊
Thanks Carmel, I've found a couple of places now online, buy H&B is a useful alternative as I pass one every day.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it is to make the same drink but at 0% or very near 0% ABV whilst keeping colours and flavours. Low alcohol spirits are getting quite popular. That aside if the foreshots are mostly methanol I do not see the logic of putting them back in.
I'm a bit stumped on how to do this, I suspect that i might just have to add botanicals to spring water...might have to ask AI how it would do it....but i will have a go this Winter at some point once my ciders have all been bottled.
Do you filter your spirits done in air still pro?
Yes I usually do.
@@MossHomeandGarden thanks for quick response. Would you use Air still carbon filtration system or something different?
I use the Still Spirits carbon kit. Many use a Britta Water Filter
Thank you - I'm going to try this, I have all the ingredients except the dessicated coconut, but I do have a can of coconut milk, in two minds if that would work?
Hello, yes it would work even better (replying from other account). Enjoy!!
@@stuartmoss Thank you!
Oooh yum
It certainly was! :)
Dice some strawberries add some wine and place on some 🍰 cake
Oooh that sounds delightful 🤤
Your power sockets are a housefire waiting to happen. Those multiway cubes are horrible and get hot with arching thrown in. Take each wall socket into six way individually switched power strips (good quality ones, nothing cheaper than £22 each) might save your life.
I appreciate the warning, but there is usually only ever one thing per socket actually switched on, I just don't like have the plugs loose on the worktop.
Great video, exactly what i was looking for. Thank you!
You are welcome, I'll have a similar one out this autumn about making onion salt.
👍👍👍
Cheers!
Blackberries are great for wine, I'll have to go out and pick some and maybe make a gallon or 2 for Christmas. One batch of blackberry and elderberry I made a few years ago was by far the best thing I have ever tasted, alcoholic or otherwise; the only trouble is, anything with elderberries in it has to be left 2 years before it's drinkable so it can be a slow process.
How was it, taste wise?
Blackberries are great, I've literally just started a blackberry cider today with foraged blackberries. Happy brewing!!
Sweet!! Very sweet, but delicious, a bit like sherry.
@@MossHomeandGarden Like fruity sherry?
Great video! Your wine sounds fantastic!👍
Thanks so much!! Cheers!!!
Never knew Dessert Wine and Hops will taste so delicious! Also I'll say if you add more sugar then it would add more ABV. I tried Sherry before at the pub, mainly cherry flavour. Name suggests due it's has crony sweet flavor if I'm right. Nice job once again Stuart!
Cheers!
@@MossHomeandGarden Welcome!
Really glad ive stumbled across your channel.. plenty of recipes for me to try and emulate 😂
Ah thanks mate, I hope you enjoy what you see, I've got seven new flavoured ciders coming out over the next few months.
G'day mate what did you do with the first 200 ml on the spirit run ?
These days I tend to use the first 50ml as fire lighter and chuck the rest in a demijohn, it then gets poured back into the still when I'm running something else through. I don't still that often these days though, so it all might end up as fire lighter!
Excellent video mate
Ah thanks and cheers!
it'll taste 100x better if you start making heads/hearts/tails cuts! great video
G'day mate what do you do with the heads and tails please
@@rossdickson4590 Keep them aside in a bucket (throw out the foreshots though, or save them for a cleaning solution / weed killer). After a stripping run on another brew, chuck in the old heads and tails and you'll get a bigger yeild. just make sure the flavour profiles mostly match. or if you have enough, do a whole run on tails /heads
It's not so easy in reflux mode as it comes out so strong, but i'm going to pot still on my next stilling film (whenever that may be) and have a go at that.
👍👍👍 great
Cheers!
