    Regarding health insurance (signa) is the yearly deducible ($750) for you and your wife or is it $750 each. Staying with an insurance question is the signa insurance full coverage meaning glasses, dental and ears, nose throat Dr as well as more catastrophic things. I hear you $3g for major surgery makes me think eye check-up or some dental work is a nothing burger. How are prescription cost? Thanks for all you do. Blessings

    • @patrickoverseas
      @patrickoverseas 7 часов назад

      rentals with a pet can be a problem. I do know someone who was turned down because of a pet. Then offered a extra $100 a month. And got the place. But pets make it harder.

    Hi Patrick, I hear that cough slowly but surely moving away.😄 Great information! I am a german citizen, but lived in the states half of my life, so your suggestion to move somewhere debt free is very relevant. From my experience American people consume a lot more, balancing everything with bank credits and credit cards. European people not so much. A car looses it´s value as soon as you drive off the lot, but you pay on it for a long time. As far as health insurance is concerned: I can assure people that no one in Europe will charge you high costs for medical treatment or prescriptions. It is very affordable, and in a lot of countries there is public health insurance for ´´free´´ because everyone that is employed, retired etc. pays a small amount into health insurance, which on the other hand covers the people that are for example on welfare. Selecting extra insurance is great, but not a complete must for people. (it also depends on the country in Europe, when you select the right insurance for you). Another option is to just set a certain amount to the side, in case anything medical related would have to be paid.

    Hi Patrick - Not to be "a know it all" but a couple of comments. 1) Quality of medical care is equally if not more important than cost, especially for retirees, who tend to be older and often have (or will have) more chronic health conditions. I'm not convinced Albania scores (ranks) particularly well in this department, especially compared to other countries such as Malaysia, Ecquador, Thailand etc. Something your viewers should definitely consider. 2). While being debt-free is desirable, it is by no means a pre-requisite or a deterrent to retiring abroad. Honestly speaking, moving abroad to a lower- cost country like Albania will reduce your cash burn and free-up cashflow to pay down your US Debt. 3) Test drive the car before you drive it off the lot. Visit the country or places you are considering moving to (stay in an Airbnb for a couple of weeks/a month), and immerse yourself in the daily rhythms, getting to know the people and places. It does not have to be a "Leap of Faith" or an all or nothing transition, unless you want it to be. Wade into the pool and move to the deeper end as you feel comfortable and see fit. 4) Ohrid (in N. Macedonia) is an absolutely beautiful and mezmerizing place and city. Highly recommend that your viewers check it out, as it's not very far from Pogradec. I might also add that N. Macedonia (in general) has a lower cost of living compared to Albania and packs a bunch. US citizens cannot stay there up to 1 year without a tourist visa. Aside from Albania, the only other country I know of which extends this privilege to Americans is the Republic of Georgia. Cheers Mike

    @paulwoolgar5384 День назад

    Hi Patrick, I might be completely wrong, so please correct me if that's the case, but when we were in Albania last year, it seemed to us that groceries were relatively inexpensive if you stuck to fresh meats, vegetables and Albanian brands, but were a little more expensive than the UK and mainland Europe for most mainstream branded products. So things like Pringles, Lays chips, Sure Deodorant, etc, were more expensive than we were used to. Not that we felt the need to go with the mainstream brands, but that was the impression we formed.

    I'm a lot like you I tend to play it safe on health care coverage. I rarely use it but just can't imagine being without it in a time of great need. Though to be honest even the full out of pocket expenses in a catastrophic event are a fraction of what they are in the States. At least that is what we experienced in our travels. Regarding your decision to buy vs rent as a safety net of stability I say ABSOLUTELY! I get it. Who could not see the sense especially considering the price and location. There is bound to be equity realized in such a deal. I don't think you are morbid. I often think of how we might set the stage for a more secure future for my wife Erika just in case I check out earlier than expected. Have to say the lake looks quite peaceful today and especially beautiful framed by the snow capped mountains. I saw a comment below about the trout... I have wondered how is it? Don't take antibiotics- lowers your immune system Only take them when you are in dire straight. The more antibiotics- the more you will be sick- you kill your natural immune systems
