Chain & Fork Guard install for Honda Monkey 125
Very helpful video thanks. Just wondering where you got your rear mud guard wrapped in the carbon fibre effect vinyl? I want to get my front and rear mud guards wrapped in Matt carbon fibre effect vinyl as I prefer that look vs chrome. Cheers
Hi, Thanks for the comment💪🏻 We just wrapped it with some vinyl wrap off eBay… Worked well for 12months and then we upgraded to a proper carbon one.
@@SmallboreAndMore thanks for the reply mate, I’m thinking of having a go at wrapping mine for now so I’ll give that a try. I couldn’t find a carbon mud guard available in the uk, only tyga racing in Thailand, but will keep my eye out for one. Thanks👍
Nice work guys and hello from another Weebike official partner!
Hello there!!!
@@SmallboreAndMore
The aesthetic improvement over that monstrous OEM airbox alone is worth the price! (just my opinion). You have excellent technique with an Allen wrenching -- I'm going to try to emulate it. Very well-done video, thank you for posting.
Thanks so much💪🏻
So much cool stuff on webike. Ok so when are you guys going to cbr300 swap a Grom ?
It’s only a matter of time isn’t!🤣
@@SmallboreAndMore well it’s the natural progression ha ha keep up the content !!

The link to the pro taper bars doesn’t seem to work. Which bars were they and which adapters did you use? Looking to do this upgrade soon. Thanks.
Very interesting. I wonder what the implications are of switching the cam chain tensioner to metal. It could be that for sure the tensioner wheel lasts longer, but now the cam chain itself needs replacing more often. Not sure if its a worthwhile tradeoff...
I guess only time will tell… 🤞🏻🤞🏻
You lads think you'll try ceramic wheel bearings?
There’s a good suggestion!!! We could time how long the wheels spin freely vs OEM ones! Do you have a link to any?
@@SmallboreAndMore If you can't see the links (YT doesn't like them, or if you have links disabled in your comment settings) MNNTHBX and DROWSPORTS does them. :)
@@SmallboreAndMore I did try posting some links earlier, must not have worked. I think MNNTHBX and DROWSPORTS sell them, mate.

turning into a proper good little channel
Thanks so much… we do try hard 🤣🤣
Can that alloy side panel still be fitted on the high aftermarket pipes like the scrambler to hide all the frame n wiring?
That's a good shout, although it uses the original exhaust holes. So I'd guess if the scrambler exhaust uses the stock holes, then no. But it's worth looking at!! Thanks for the comment, btw 😊
This is the JB02 version, which has a bigger outlet than the JB03 version. Looks better and probably sounds also better. Downside of the JB02 version is that they can break on the weld on the part that goes into the head (ask me how I know, and I have seen more than mine) they fixed this on the JB03 version with an extra mounting point under the engine.
Good info! And yes, sounds well💪🏻
Well keep an eye out for that! Thanks
Nice one guys, do those shocks bottom out like the standard ones ?
The bike belongs to a good friend of ours and is featured on the TT footage on the channel, we were riding some dumpy roads, and he never said they bottomed out, he only had good things to say 😊
@@simonchandler448 thanks, I think I will have a bash at those 👍🏻

Thanks so much 💪🏻💪🏻
you guys planning on doing a video of it running? would be really interested to see how much quicker it is to rev over stock
Have a look at the videos of us at the Isle of Man, that’s the bike running with the can chain and flywheel fitted💪🏻
I do so much window shopping on Webike and I don't even have a Monkey (or bike licence) yet. 😂
You can spend hours deciding on what la going to be on your bike when you get it! Enjoy! And go do that licence test 💪🏻💪🏻
Maybe we ought to think of one of those daily reward for visiting like the one on a game apps lol.
@@WebikeJapanChannel Right!? It seems like every other day I go on there and do a hypothetical shopping list. 🤓
Does anyone know if you need to…or should do the upgrade of the coil for the Takegawa dash? Thanks.
Just curious…I have a 2021 Honda monkey, same blue. It does not have an oil filter like that in the engine, just the spinner and small flat screen. Could it be the difference between European to American models? Mines a 4 speed. Must be a 2022 5 speed engine because no oil spinner?? Nice how 2 video!
Really? That sounds like a 2019 or 2020 with a different tank? What colour is your frame?
@@SmallboreAndMore the vin sticker on the frame says 3/21. Frame is blue, and tank is blue and white. Front forks are also blue. I set mine up more for riding dirt trails in the woods. Shinko mobbers, 14th front sprocket, a 37..I think in the rear. DNA stage one intake, Yoshi full race exhaust, MNNTHBX Rizoma tail light and front blinkers, same bars as yours…Pro tapers…with double take mirrors, and ASV clutch and brake levers. Adjustable rear suspension. With a DHM icu flash for all the mods from MANNTHBX. It does about 62mph on a flat paved road. Happy with it…but now I want more power‼️ Great channel by the way!
Curious… where did you find the torque specs for the filter cover?
Honda service manual…. They are 6mm fasteners
All that for half a horsepower!!
It’s 1.88 BHP gain! Not Half a horse power?? I know the absolute figure feels small, but you’ve gotta remember the amount they start out with is tiny… so it’s actually quite a big gain, 8.3bhp to 10.18bhp is over 20%💪🏻 And the most important thing is you can REALLY feel it out on the road😎
never going to remove that pipe with all that silicon , should have left it clean
Yeah, you’re probably right. It’s overkill, there’s no need because it’s like 10” long, straight through, there’s no way any gases are going to squeeze through the joint when they can so get get out of the open unrestricted can. But… that’s what the instructions say, so we followed them👌🏻
Hi good vid, I have the katana straight through and it sounds fantastic.
What oil cooler are you running ?
It’s a 6 row from Steady Garage👍🏻
Are you able to run the Honda monkey oil cooler bracket with dna dual intake or need to make custom bracket?
@@luiscarmona4096 we needed to make a custom bracket. We are looking to make these to order if there is a demand.👌🏻
@@SmallboreAndMore I would be intrested in buying one if your willing to make one
Sounds great. It reminds me of my current 2023 GSX-R1000R when I had removed the factory muffler until received the Arrow full system. I miss that amazing idling sound. It sound great.
Sound better at idle, but the same when revving
Definitely alot better then standard
On the pre 22 model engine (4-gear) the torque of those screws is 16Nm. So I guess these are the same.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it💪🏻
Is there a video of the installation of the Ohlins cartridge?
No, I’m afraid that was done by an Ohlins dealer… however we do have plans to change the lower fork bottoms soon which we’ll be doing ourselves… so stay tuned because we’ll be taking them apart 💪🏻
Where did you move the horn to? You didn't mention it but I see in other vids it's not there.
That’s an interesting one!!! We replaced the OEM with a Denali Sound Bomb Split and hid it behind the right hand side panel that’s installed when we change the exhaust routing. It’s REALLY loud!🤣
@@SmallboreAndMore ah k.. I just found kitaco do a mount that just flips the horn downwards but it's still in the way/ugly. The only other one is an extension lead + mount from kijima it mounts to engine cover on the left. Just ordered one 👍🏼
@@freefly1 I agree… I don’t like seeing the horn, but some people love the look… it’s very “Monkey” Before we added the sound bomb, we relocated it to the lhs of the bike just in front of the side panel, and used some basic 2 core cable to extend it. It was a neat job, and cost next to nothing to do. It was only because we gained a big space behind the new panel that we decided to try the sound bomb… but it’s great! So loud and makes people laugh when they hear it from such a small bike
from what i see in my bike, the rubber roller from the cam chain tensioner arm doesnt have any wear after 13k km. but the middle rubber roller have the ridge completely destroyed. i am interesed in changing the middle roller. i have already trying with an nylon roller but its the same result.
I think the accelerated wear comes when you start to modify the engine and put the components under more stress…. But I agree, there was no evidence of wear on ours, but with so few miles, that’s to be expected. I also think the previous models were more prone because they had the option of an aftermarket mechanical tensioner, where you could put extra force on the tensioner arm… like I say in the video, I’d call the design of the 2021+ bikes more of a dampener than a tensioner💪🏻 Keep us informed with what you do and find out💪🏻
Hi guys, nice and really informative video. How many km have you done with the oem cam chain tensioner?
Hi, thanks for your nice comment! Around a 1000km on the OEM. We’ve done about 300miles or about 480 km since fitting them, which was a trip to the Isle of Man for the TT so they got a good run out and definitely put through their paces! All good so far💪🏻
Some good looking (and sounding) mods! Which ProTaper bars did you go for? They seem a little straighter than others I've seen.
Cheers Graeme… they are ProTaper Seven Eighths Honda Mini Bend👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
You might wanna retighten that steering stem nut, it's suppose to be torqued at 88Nm. I got the feeling that it didn't was that in the video.
Thanks for your comment… we love it when our viewers connect and reach out… Plus we are not perfect and welcome new learning. As far as the stem nut, the 88Nm is the OEM figure for the steel assembly. The SMR is a fine alloy thread and wouldn’t take 88Nm. The spec from SMR is 25-30Nm.👌🏻 We also need to remember that this nut doesn’t take a lot of strain as the top and bottom yoke clamped against the forks do the job of holding everything in place. Thanks again for your comment…
@@SmallboreAndMoreHmmm I probably missed that part in the SMR instructions. I torqued mine to 88 Nm 😂
@@rickst.3330glad you got away with it💪🏻💪🏻
Hello guys! Great videos, thank you very much it will help me to disassemble the cylinder! I have a monkey 2023, Yoshimura RS3 on it. I would like to install the 145cc kit from Kitaco but I could not do ECU reprogramming for now, I would still have a better engine? And also, are you satisfied with the DNA Stage 3 air filter? So gorgeous! Thanks for your answer 🛵
Hi Bruno, thanks for your comments…. The advice from Dynojet (check out our other vids for the tuning) is that it would be pretty dangerous to upgrade to the 145kit without adding extra fuel. It would just be too lean, and that will cause problems with too much heat, and lead to component failure. As far as the DNA stage 3… it’s a lovely thing, is it worth the money? It’s hard to justify the price tag on performance alone, because there’s for example the Takegawa intake that’s about 10% of the price and will be just as free flowing. I’d say it’s all about the looks / symmetry 💪🏻 but it’s personal choice. In my opinion, they are expensive for what they are! Enjoy tuning…💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
@@SmallboreAndMoreOk I suspected it but you confirm it. I will wait for the Kitaco reprogrammer. For the DNA Filter... I love the symmetry!!! Is it worth the cost just for the look!? Maybe! 🤑 it's nice of you to have answered me, thanks again.
Good channel. Got a few big bikesbut seem to be rite into the small bore stuff just now. So much fun.
Cheers mate 💪🏻
surprising!! I assume the 1.5L/5L fuel economy of these beast is out of scope with this 145cc instead of the 125cc. How far for your ride ?
Yeah, the fuel economy is shot now!! Get about 90miles from a tank
By far, this is the best video! I do have the dax 125 and will use this as a guide!
Thank you for the comment💪🏻
Looks like he bailed on the last corner and dropped a schiznit in his panties 😂👍
Do you lads reckon that even with even a max attack approach with a 212cc big bore kit and all the bells and whistles a monkey is capable of being quick? I’m deliberating on whether to spend money on mine or just leave it as is. Coming from a motocross and superbike background.
I’d stick to superbikes🤣💪🏻
@@SmallboreAndMore fair comment 😂 The monkey is great for nipping around town but your comment confirms my thoughts. Many thanks
great video, do you have a video for setting up the meter
No, but that’s something we could do if it helps. If you can’t find anything else on line, give us a shout
@@SmallboreAndMore please do a video thanks
hey, thank you very much for the video, I have a question for you, could you write exactly what parts you bought and possibly the stores in the EU? I would really be very grateful if you would describe exactly what you did where and how the film is impressive
Hi, if you have a look at our other videos, all the information you need is there…. Installation, dyno runs, and the details of where to buy! Hope that’s ok
@@SmallboreAndMore ok thx you !
I’d like to know if it makes a bit of storage available ? Did you put the tool kit back in?
No, there’s zero space for storing anything and even if there was, it would mean bolting and unbolting all the time
@@SmallboreAndMore Interesting! Thanks for the reply. I think I’ll leave the stock cover on even though I think it’s ugly and what you’ve put on is much more attractive!
I think it’s down to taste… on my personal bike, I have the OEM covers, as I like the Monkey character they give. (Plus I have a Denali sound bomb horn behind one and the DynoJet quick shifter brain behind the other!) but the panels are nice… all depends what you’re after.
What is the current configuration of the front and rear gears?
14t 37t
I ask this because the fifth gear on my Thai Monkey 125 cannot exceed 7000 RPM, so my top speed is 121KM/9000RPM in the fourth gear, so I can’t understand why you can reach 8500RPM in the fifth gear. , I also use KITACO 145CC.
My front and rear gears are now 15X36. It seems I should try changing the front gears to 14T.
DynoJet increased the limiter for us👍🏻
Hi guys, regarding gears the 2023 monkey 14- 37 so for more top speed I will need a 34 at the rear which is the equivalent to a 15 front would that be correct?, also what model renthal bars do you have on the blue monkey, Love the video brilliant seeing the actual difference between 125 and 145 can't wait to run my 145 in now🙂
great vids guys, led would be lovely, looks great. great vids about the tuning on dyno to ;-) cheers
What model of PV3 do you have? 😊
dynojet.co.uk/pv3-16-20.html That’s a link for you 👌🏻
Thanks for this one. just got my 145cc kit home. But you flashed the ECU on both bikes. 😊
Yes, the ecu is flashed on both and both bikes have identical mods. Yellow bike is 10.18 BHP the blue bike (with the camera) is 12.16 BHP. Plus the blue 145 rider is 2 stone heavier
Tanks. I need to get a PV3 to make it complete.
Still a hell of a lot of money for not much more gain, looks the part though.
I know it’s all relative… but I don’t think £270 is bad for the 145kit? You get a piston, barrel and new camshaft for that.💪🏻
On my stock Dax ST 125 (same stock engine as stock Monkey 125) I managed to hit 118 kph on speedometer (108 on GPS) downhill with tailwind and tucking like theres no tomorrow… then I realized the engine cuts out due to limitations at that speed (118 speedometer) - so i changed from the stock 15 tooth front sprocket to a 14 tooth, but then the engine still cuts out at 118 kph on speedometer (101 on GPS) as before, but the speedometer is way off with a 14 tooth so it reduced top speed very much.
