customer lost this while deer hunting about 2years ago. He finally found it and bring it straight to me for a restoration job. I had no idea it was a rare extremely expensive Randall made knife but while I was restoring it I could tell it was very well made and I am very impressed with the quality of the knife. In fact I am looking to buy one for myself and will post a short video of it when I ...

I disassemble the 629 and inspect the action then reassemble to show how it's done. the side by side comparison to the colt anaconda is toward the end of the video and shows how smooth the trigger pull is on both of these revolvers. this 629 I did a action job to it so it is extremely nice but the colt anaconda is factory and it is really really good as well.

Excellent work, sir. I have a Randall hunting knife from my late FIL...an heirloom...
Hey man I put everything back together but the hammer wont stay in the cocked position unless I rack the slide. And there’s no half cock anymore. Do you know the reason for this? Thanks
I have one for sale.
What model and how much
@ it’s a Number 4 with a 6 inch blade. It’s an early 1950’s knife. It has the leather handle. I also have the original sheath. It has a stone, but it’s not original to the knife. I need to get $1000.00 for it. If you want to see pics just let me know and we can figure out how I can send them to you.
@ okay, I will send them to you this evening.
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 I do not see that email you posted earlier, I can send pics, just let me know where to. I should have took a screenshot, sorry about that.
Only do this to a common gun that is ruined.
This gun was refinished back in the 50s and it was well used after. When I finally got it the old plating was rusting underneath and bubbling up so I had to strip it and blue it back like it came from the factory. Thanks for watching
There are no words to describe the ruining of this gun. It was an original factory nickel plated gun that was very desirable and now it is just another refinished gun worth much less then it was. Some people should not be allowed to own guns and by that I do not mean criminals.
No this was not originally nickel it was blued and was hard chrome plated after the original finish wore off. I stripped the chrome off because it was rusting underneath from a bad job and I blued it back to original finish. Enjoy !!
Wait....that appears to be an original nickel plated Triple Lock and the plating is actually pretty decent. Sorry but what you did was devalue a nice original Triple Lock by thousands of dollars.
Sorry man. I'm eating my words now. I see upon close examination of the sideplate it was indeed refinished in nickel. My apologies.
Looks like a Model 8-4 (Bird & Trout) to me - I found a beat up example of the same knife (without your lanyard hole) recently and it scrubbed up a treat. I haven't put an edge on it yet but will soon - I've read that unless otherwise requested, this Model comes from Randall with the upper forward edge sharpened as well (like a dagger), but I shall leave that blunt.
what's the OD, ID AND WALL THICKNESS OF THE BARREL
That more in depth on a low budget shotgun than I considered going into
I do metallodetecting, but mostly in shallow water. But previously i found some old knifes n parts of axe.i like walking my alabai dogs and im alwats lookin for stuff like that
Hello. I live in North Texas right by the red river. I have found so many Artifact like arrow heads spear heads and stone tools. I have hundreds of them. I had Alaibai dogs for 15years but last year my last one past and we want another one. Where did you get yours?
@rustyrestorationww1ww2 I also collect old bottles;) i brought my dogs from Russia. I'm breeder in Michigan.
I want another male. I got my pups from Russian guy in Alaska who brung them over. Best dogs on the planet so loyal and protected us better than anything.
@rustyrestorationww1ww2 i shipped one of our pups to anchorage. Yes great breed. I wrote 2 books about this wonderful breed, sold at amazon
Where you located? I collect tools🎉
North Texas right by the red river.
Lookin good. I would like to find it;)
Let's make a deal for a pup and I'll give it to you along with alot more.
They found one in a lunar module that was at bottom of ocean for 40 some odd years...brought it up cleaned up like new....maybe needed new scales.
That would be so cool to see
@rustyrestorationww1ww2 go to randal museum in Orlando. You'll be amazed. I got 2 myself ..I use mine.
Another bad attempt at a gun restoration. You just make wall art.
Thanks but show me your skills
ya sounds like an old ford
Yes. I'm currently trying to find a big block to put in this old ranchero
These phony "restoration" videos are time wasting and tiring!
Your a fake subscriber
Just to say, it took me too long to fibd your video. You are the only one that showed the internal differences, instead of reading a textbook. Congratulations on your dedication to us
Glad it helped
629 wins But aint as bad ass Which is like the whole point of a wheel gun lmao
I disagree on the winner of being more badass because the 629 will hand 44mag +P+ all day long and twice that on Tuesday lol and the original anaconda will not stay together with any abuse like that. But the new anaconda is a mastered version and will compete with the 629 or maybe even beat it but I'm still putting my money on the smith&wesson
Single shot shotguns are a must for survival
Yes I agree. They are light weight easy to use with very few parts so they last forever and extremely reliable
Why, is that so, called mud still wet? So, it was buried and just dug up within seconds? I've never seen any knife look like that, just laying outside for a year or so? It sure looks like artificial weathering to me!
Artificial weathering would be a ignorant thing to do especially to a very valuable randall knife. If I wanted to fake a video I'd definitely choose something more interesting and affordable. Thanks for watching.
to me the finish on the gun as it came was borderline 'good enough' but I am glad you did it cause my next nickel project is a model 19 target. I have done some black powder Colt clone percussion revolvers.
This Old revolver was originally blued from smith&wesson and through the years it was refinished in hard chrome plating that wasn't done correctly leaving some small rust pitts that continued to grow and caused the chrome to start peeling off. Thanks for watching and feel free to ask questions if you need help blueind your next project
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 I kinda have the reverse problem with one revolver.... a model 19 target .357 the target is uncommon to run into and this is the first I have seen but the finish on this blue gun is ..... 'Neglected' seriously so. What I am gonna do is polish it best I can without destroying the marks on it which will leave some pitting. I am then gonna nickel plate it. I will copper plate first (always a good idea) and polish again... the copper plate is sort of kind of a filler so I cant use it like bondo or the markings will be filled in also.. Nickel shows everything.... I so far have done black powder cap and ball Colt clone revolvers that (as original) have roll marked battle scenes on the cylinders.. in the blue they are sota indistinct but in the nickel or silver they stand out well. Sooo the pitting will show but.. good enough for the girls I go out with.
@doranmaxwell1755 send me some pictures of the 19 target before you start your project if possible and id also like to see the after pics as well.
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 Not seeing your email? anyway it is easy to send current pics.. the restoration? lol... may be a while. I had planned on taking pics as it goes along which is something I should do but never do. I can send a couple of pics of the black powder cap and ball guns I have done and maybe a few of the old rusty cheap ass tools I started with?
Wondering why you consider it a over rated revolver. Want to buy one and less moving parts sounds better to me than the old ones.
I will say you can't go wrong with the new python it really is a nice revolver but it isn't as nice as a model 27 smith&wesson and not even close to the registered magnum smith&wesson.
Use vinegar next time for easier and better results
Thanks for the tip
Good work mate
Thanks 👍
I have a 1911 Police Positive 32, a 1926 Colt Officer 38, and a 1955 Colt Official Police in 38. I'd love to get these three restored and refinished.
Those are all great guns. I have every single individual part for those. If you need help restoring them let me know
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 Awesome; I'll have to reach out to you. Do you have a website, email, etc?
I have a 73 that seems to be the same color. What is your paint code?
This was a service I did for a customer back when I was ffl licensed gunsmith. Now I just do it for myself . Thanks for watching
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 I am asking about your car. I think you replied to another message.
Is this work you provide or just something you did for yourself?
I currently only do it for myself but if you need help let me know and I'll see what I can do
That's a Randall #8. I stopped into the shop in Orlando right around the first week of 1977 and paid $67 for a #8. I have cleaned deer, birds and fish with it over the years. The blade is discolored with a nice patina, no rust or pitting and takes a wicked sharp edge. Beautiful steel. It is the knife that the U-2 pilot Gary Powers had with him when he was shot down over the USSR in the early sixties.
That is really cool to know about the pilot Gary Powers and thanks for commenting and watching. Since I refinished this knife I have purchased 5 of them. A #1-7. 8-4. buxton fighter. 16w. #2-8. And I'm looking for a 27. I wish they was $67 bucks but those prices are never coming back.
On display in museum in Russia
Hi, i have a question. Is it possible to remove the barrel in this gun?
Hello. Yes the barrel can be removed if you have the frame wrench and barrel vice it should come off pretty easy.
Rusty my ass! Ruined a truly beautiful firearm! Blued will never look better than nickel! And my wife has that pistol!
Opinions vary and my opinion says blued is much better than nickel. This gun didn't come factory with nickel finish and yes the gun was rusting in several places causing the nickel to bubble. Thanks for watching
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 How do you know? Did you letter it?
Got a link to your channel from Mr. Benton - I saw the 1911 you did for him and I have a project I would like to discuss with you. shoot me an email calvo.jorge2019@gmail.com please
You're kidding me, right? First you pull the fore-end off while it's closed, not open. Then you wouldn't have broke the chip of wood off. Next, all you need is Kroil and 0000 steel wool and all the surface rust would come off without damaging the finish. I've done this about 100 times. There was no reason to take the stock off OR use sandpaper......
Sounds like you have it all figured out and might possibly be the best of the best But just so you know when anything made out of carbon steal rusts it removes the original finish everywhere the rust was and if you don't remove it completely it will rust again in the same place you rubbed your kroil oil and steal whool. What you did is put a bandade on your 100+ guns you rubbed down. Thanks for watching and commenting
To be curious, why didnt the owner want ti send it in ti randall to do their spa treatment on it?
Probably didn't want to wait the forever time frame they have and I'd think they would cost about 3x more than me
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 ahh could be. I wouldn't send mine in either but I'm also a bladesmith so I can fix everything I might mess up
I am not a bladesmith and I'm still trying to perfect sharpening. Lol but I can put a restoration job on guns and knives but mainly guns are my expertise.
Hey so ima ask this cause i figure you might know. So the last time i shot my colt junior, the rounds were either not being pushed forward all the way, and werent ejecting right or at all at points. I was only able to get one or two rounds through it flawlessly before it starting doing this. Now ive taken the whole thing apart and put back together just like you did in this video. I found nothing concerning enough to have caused what was happening. It could be the magazine considering after i fired a few rounds, the spring wouldnt keep the rounds at the top of the magazine. It could also be the rounds considering the primer on one of the rounds completely blew off and got stuck in the gun. Im confused in what is going on lol, curious if you had any insight for me. Thanks !
Hello. It sounds like bad ammo. Try new ammo and lightly lube the magazine spring so the ammo don't get hung up in it. Might also need the spring replaced.
Drove the pins out the wrong way they got on the right side
If you drove them out the wrong way it's ok you can always replace the pins if they are too messed.
Never seen a gun rust like that. You must live in Hollywood
In South Florida Salty everything. Steel has no chance if left unattended too long. Even stainless steel will rust but not quite as fast
In south Florida Salty Everything. Steel have no chance if left unattended even stainless steel rusts but not quite as fast.
A Master Piece. How do I get in contact with you for a project?
Hello. You can comment here your email and I will contact you.
Hi there, Sir. I posted the information. However, I don't see the comment here. Please let me know if you got it.
I did not get it. I'm sure youtube flagged it just in case scammers don't get it
Gracias desde Colombia ...NO sabía cómo sacar el pasador de la aguja percutora, Es diferente del .22 short....Gracias💪💪👏👏
Your welcome!! Thanks for watching and if you have another gun you want disassemble let me know.
I'm betting that the audio was censored by RUclips, and there was nothing but "beeps" left.
Yes youtube has alot of copyright issues and claims so they flag alot of videos if they here any music that is clear.
@@rustyrestorationww1ww2 My coment was only meant in the sense that there may have been a lot of curse words flying while you struggled with that little thing. So many that it would have been nothing but beeps.
Also it seemed that some of the reassembly wet out of order to the disassembly. A voice over addition would be great.
First shotgun I owned, got one in 20ga on the rack. Fun gun and kicks harder than my 12ga pump
Thanks for watching and yes these single barrel shotguns don't weight very much so they kick like a mule. 😅
Nice restoration
Thanks!
Nice job! I have the exact same one. Glad you brought it back to life.
Thanks!!!!
wow they took a page from S&W this is just a scaled up Python, much better than the First gen Anaconda I had A very simple and well made action.
Yes I agree they made it really nice much better than the old model. I would have a really hard time choosing between the 629 and this new anaconda if I could only have 1 but I'd still choose the Smith because if ever needed the parts are easy to find
I would not choose a new Smith with lock over this, the new smiths are filled with MIM and compromises the heavy duty Cylinder of the new Colt and frame are better than the Smith. @@rustyrestorationww1ww2
Where can I contact you? I have a project
Liquid starting fluid
I used raw gas to pour down the carburetor and it fired up. It didn't run long because the tank is dirty needs replaced

Wow and 351 or 400 big plug or dinky peanut sized, holy grail of hunting gotta have 3 to be cool and extreme cars
I just acquired the title for this old Rancho a couple weeks ago so I'm going to continue with the restoration now. First thing I'm going to do is pull the engine and build a big block to get ready to power this old tank.
It is hand forged out of O-1 tool steel. About a $1000 knife.
Wow that explains why it's such a nice knife I am extremely impressed on the quality.
$445 new from Randall if you wanna wait 6 years
@patbiggin4477 I actually found a nice randal model 16-7 and a model 1-7 for 1300 total and I bought them both. I'll pay extra to keep my 6years and enjoy my new to me Randall's now.
