@@royalsquishy7058 why did you have trouble from the ATF ?Did stumble upon that while investigating something else? Or did they specifically show up to ask if you owned any old shotguns ?
Hello. If you can't reblue it then brass brushes are great to remove rust and since brass doesn't rust it also helps prevent the gun from future rust. When you scrub with brass brushes it does leave a brass coating since it's a lot softer metal its almost like coloring on paper with a crayon just not as thick. Thanks for watching and sharing your how too solution it might help someone out that did not know it.
Yes it was. The shotgun was cleaned and not oiled so it rusted bad enough to ruin the color case harden reciever finish so I rust blued it. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for this. My dad has an old Remington he'd like me to try and restore that looks to be in about as rough shape as this one. Any issues with pitting inside the barrel? Would that not affect performance or safety?
Hello. Depending on how deep the putting is inside the barrel. Usually the pitting inside is less than outside because our fingers aren't able to touch it and it's somewhat more shielded from the elements. I usually don't worry too much about the modern barrels but Damascus is another story. Thanks for watching and if you need anything just ask. Thanks
Is this Gun a New England firearms brand 20 gauge ? If so it was first gun and I loved it . Overall a 20 gauge shot gun is my favorite. It’s very versatile and capable of taking big or mall game
I have been trying for a long time to ID a shotgun it is a single shot with a 25 Inch barrel and it's about a 20 or16 ga. it's not break barrel it's a brech loading it loks like a sharps rifle but it doesn't have a marki gs at all could it be a sharps?
I have a H&R topper model 158 and it is very very rusty I tried using 0000 steel wool and it barely did anything to it. If you’re interested I can send you pictures and if you up for the challenge maybe we can work something out on the restoration?

Tell me the maker of that gun. I use to have a single shot 20 ga for deer hunting. I'm 72 and sold it in ohio at a garage sale when moving. I think it was a Harrington... Took a head off a rat at 20 yards with a deer slug.
Do better at removing the pitting on the guns. Lots of elbow grease and wet sandpaper. Up to 1000 grit. Your too quick to get them finished by blueing to cover up the blems.
I will definitely try to do better. But Rust blueing the highest polish needed is 320grit. When the rust excellerent is applied it etches the metal and takes any higher polish away and starts growing red rust. After the blueing is done I can polish it with 0000 steel wool and apply lindsead oil that will seal the finish and puts a nice polished look.
You're kidding me, right? First you pull the fore-end off while it's closed, not open. Then you wouldn't have broke the chip of wood off. Next, all you need is Kroil and 0000 steel wool and all the surface rust would come off without damaging the finish. I've done this about 100 times. There was no reason to take the stock off OR use sandpaper......
Sounds like you have it all figured out and might possibly be the best of the best But just so you know when anything made out of carbon steal rusts it removes the original finish everywhere the rust was and if you don't remove it completely it will rust again in the same place you rubbed your kroil oil and steal whool. What you did is put a bandade on your 100+ guns you rubbed down. Thanks for watching and commenting
This gun is very dangerous.i have one and I have had two others and almost died more than two times when letting others borrow the gun it is the trigger hammer on top of the gun hits your pants leg and shooting it and if put in a Dunn buggy it will slide down hit and shoot. So be very careful with the gun around people who don't know anything about guns you will be shot by them..
Yes it is a dangerous gun. All guns are dangerous but some like this one is even more because it doesn't have the hammer block safety that the newer ones have. Be very careful and educate anyone that wants to shoot it or hunt with it. Thank you for the comment alot of people have no idea how easy a bad accent can happen with these old relics.
Yes two different times I let my friend of the past.. borrow it when going squirrel hunting first time he hit the hammer by hitting it on the edge of his pants we were in a trail about 3+5' apart and it shot dirt two feet in front of me and I took it from him next time same person I handed it to him and I was getting into the Dunn buggy and he set the gun upto the seat between us and as he got in it slide down to the bar cross the floor that the gas brake clute is mounted too and shoot into the gas tank beside my head luckily it was stainless steel keg so yes a good shooting gun but not with uneducated people who are not smart enough to manage it correctly
Owned many versions of this firearm never once had a problem. Slogged though the thickest brush and never had the hammer come up to the full cocked position. Plus the NEF Pardner like the one on this video has a transfer bar safety. So even if the hammer drops the weapon won't shot, unless your finger is on the trigger. It's even drop safe. I do agree guns are dangerous but this gun is as safe as they come. If handled in a safe manner.

First shotgun I owned, got one in 20ga on the rack. Fun gun and kicks harder than my 12ga pump
Thanks for watching and yes these single barrel shotguns don't weight very much so they kick like a mule. 😅
Would anyone like to see a Damascus shotgun barrel restoration?
Sure
Yeah but I heard that Damascus shotgun barrels are to dangerous to fire after a while
I got a black diamond 12 gauge looks just like this one , I repaired it with a spring from an old washing machine still kinda works to this day 😂
That is awesome!! I'd like to see a picture of it. These old single barrel shotguns are really getting rare and the best part is they last forever.
I'd be wary of a firearm that "kinda works " . It could "kinda NOT work " someday and be detrimental to your health and well being.
