A Reading of "The Raven"
Just to remind you all I'm not dead: as a treat this Halloween, I give you all my own reading of "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe - my favorite poem.
The title card is my own creation, using a Public Domain silhouette of a raven. The other images in the video are all the original illustrations from Gustave Dore's illustrated version of "The Raven." The illustrations are, once again, in the Public Domain, and I have sort of placed them out of sequential order to hopefully fit the narrative of the story better, in my mind.
The music used is - once again - Public Domain: "Ballad of the Blackbirds" by Chad Crouch. It seemed fitting on more than one level.
Don't worry, "Analysis in Wonderland" isn...

FREAKING. FINALLY. I'm sorry for disappearing for so many months, everybody! I actually recorded the narration for this episode about two months ago, but I just couldn't find time to work on making the video and getting everything together. At least I was able to complete this in time for the 4th of July! I want to warn you all here and now, I'm not entirely sure WHEN the next video will be up....

Well, after several requests and a few delays, here it is! My review of the cult classic Czech film "Neco z Alenky," a.k.a. "Alice," directed by Jan Svankmajer. I suspect everybody who watches this will immediately sic the Queen of Hearts upon my noggin, so while you all sharpen your cutlasses and axe blades, I'm going to hide. :P ALSO, I know what I plan to do for the next video - a review of ...

I know I said my next episode of "Analysis in Wonderland" would be a review of the Czech film directed by Jan Svankmajer, and I DID plan to upload that in December...but December turned out to be a crazy month for me, and I have had to shift things around. I have already begun work on that video, however, and it SHOULD be ready by Valentine's Day. ANYWAY, in the meantime, here is a very, VERY s...

I was originally going to save this one for later, but - by popular demand - here are my thoughts on the 1966 "Alice in Wonderland" TV Play directed by Jonathan Miller. My next video will very likely cover Jan Svankmajer's "Neco z Alenky," a.k.a. "Alice," from 1988. Then I'll see about something a little...different in January. DISCLAIMER: This video is made in accordance with the Fair Use Act,...

Another episode of "Analysis in Wonderland!" This time, we leave the world of the screen entirely and take a peek at the world of the stage with the Broadway Production of Frank Wildhorn's ill-fated musical "Wonderland." It's going to be a while till I get the next episode ready; I'm hoping to have it ready by Halloween, but I cannot promise that. I can tell you all that the next episode will o...

Finally, a new episode of "Analysis in Wonderland!" In this one, I review and discuss the 2010 video game based on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland...a game that I think may actually be slightly superior to its movie counterpart. Blasphemy, some say? Well, just watch and hear me out. This video is made in accordance with the Fair Use Act, under the guidelines of criticism. All images and music ...

This is the episode that is out of chronological order; the last of the first six weeks of this series. The series will go on, I promise you; I've already made plans for the next four episodes, and there are still more after that I want to make. However, I will no longer be releasing these videos weekly; they'll simply be released whenever I have the time and ability to release them. Hopefully ...

The next episode of my "Analysis in Wonderland" history/review series. We're halfway through the first six weeks now! I'll confess I'm not especially happy with how this one turned out; I had a lot of technical difficulties in the course of making this one and I think it shows a bit. Hopefully it won't be too bad, though. THIS SERIES FITS UNDER THE FAIR USE ACT CLAUSE OF CRITICISM. ALL SCREENSH...

TAS Mad Hatter is my favorite
My Dad was in this - Leo McKern, the Duchess. Thank you for posting!
"Dreamchild" captures a certain fantasy, but Ian Holm was too old for the role.
Where has Mr rogues gone???????
t is not weird and extreme. It is typical of a confusing and sometimes bad dream . Dreams DO NOT include infantile and demeaning Disney cartoons. Dreams are often about very jumbled bizarre scenarios that can reflect fears and/or traumatic experiences or just muddled up daily life.. The wit is part of the confusion for an adolescent (or pre-adolescent) and Alice is an intelligent girl who can see through humbug. It is also theatre - not a silly movie. It also reflects aspects of British society, including its problems. Victorian girls were very repressed and even when I was young (1940's) "little girls were seen and not heard". I was not even told when my Grandfather died and thought he disappeared from my life because I was bad. The adults around Alice in her dream ARE somewhat threatening and "out of her league". Gielgud"s "join the dance " is a delightful highlight to counteract seriousness depicted elsewhere.
he's a fan of alice in Wonderland
I'm surprised that you didn't cover the Soviet Union version of Alice in wonderland from 1981 it is very interesting to say the least
The comic version of the original tech will always be my favorite(weird little asocial man).
I feel like this one truly captures the feelings of nostalgia of one's childhood, the characters are odd, but act in a way that feel like they're what a child would imagine others would act- being imaginary friends rather than the bizarre and unpleasant characters like in the Disney one and to an extent in the original source
If you know your Lewis Carroll backwards and forwards, it becomes clear that this adaptation utilizes Carroll's original self-illustrated, manuscript ALICE'S ADVENTURES UNDER GROUND as its source. That it is not based on his later published elaboration ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND becomes clear when you see it missing the same sequences from the final, finished product as the first manuscript does as well. Also, Carroll originally pictured Alice as dark-haired instead of Tenniel's later classic light-haired (blonde???) heroine. Other than the Alice who I find strangely tepid and non-engaging as opposed to the self-possessed character in Carroll's books, this is a truly fine adaptation which really excels in its PUNCH ILLUSTRATED-informed trial sequence. (Alison Leggat's Queen of Hearts is one of my favorite depictions of her in any version) This is pure Victoriana with all the stops pulled out.
This was a nice series of videos you made here. Just wanted to let you know that each have been informative, and taught me new things about movies I didn't know before! Thank you for giving a little attention to the little details of Wonderland, and hope you have a good day!
I remember catching this movie on tv and it was the particular scene of the tea party. I have always had an interest in jim henson's puppets and it grows with videos like these especially with the nuance of character like Alice and Sarah from Labyrinth. I have identified so closely with their daydreaming and as time goes on my dreams have become twisted with my reality with loss and other troubles that come with growing up. Still my art and stories are still fueled by movies like these and I am grateful to have come across them no matter how scary the puppets may look at times that's really what has made them so memorable honestly. Good Video!!
I still like this story
Im still watching at 0:18 💀
Great Video, found it fascinating, nice one, I've been frightened to watch "Dreamchild" for some strange reason, O, but I will now, thank You;
Just start watching. Sorry, after 30 min i stop it🤦♂️🤮
"Will you won’t you will you won’t you…..won’t you join the dance?"
Clap was so weired
I would have liked that Disney excluded the Walrus & Carpenter sequence to make room for 2 of the most iconic characters in the book, the Griffin & the Mock Turtle, otherwise my favorite followed by the Bunin & Paramount versions .. the 2 part TV version being my least favorite by faaaar
The only problem I ever had with the '33 Paramount ALICE was Charlotte Henry .. & Richard Arlen was miscast .. Louize Fazenda & Edna May Oliver are wonderful, score is very nice
Do 'Alive'
As someone who lives in Ireland I appreciate that you are reading the original book
I'm luck to see this twice and lucky enough to find it at a used book store. I do enjoy it greatly. ^^ Not sure if you have seen it. But would you kindly check out the Royal ballet of Alice in Wonderland? It's great as well. ^^
Legends are true.
The film’s cinematographer is Geoffrey Unsworth (2001: A Space Oddesy, Cromwell, Murder On The Orient Express, Superman, Cabaret etc) and the film’s editor is Peter Weatherley (the editor of Scrooge)
Very chilling you did a great job
TAS Mad Hatter is my favorite version 💙💜💖
Still my favorite Alice adaptation 💖
My school is having a pantomime this year called Hercules in Wonderland, but in this version Alice is the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, I know it is weird, but bare with me. I was told if I want to understand the "world" better I should probably watch the movies that were directed by Tim Burton and I did watch them, while some of the characters in the pantomime were clearly directly based of those in the Tim Burton movies I felt I had to watch the 1951 and I could tell that some of the characters like the Cheshire Cat was clearly from the 1951 version. One thing is for certain, being given the main role of the pantomime has definitely lead me down an interesting rabbit hole of tue Alice in Wonderland movies
It makes sense that The White Rabbit would be a stuffed corps. He is late, he's always late.
It was very interesting!! Cool vid!
It is one of my favorite films
This is an interesting channel but the sound could be better
I think The Mad Hatter is the most underrated Batman villain. He is my second favourite after The Joker. The Roddy McDowell animated version was the best. I'd love to see him on the big screen.
These are good interesting videos but sound could be better
I give the 1999 version of Alice in wonderland a 7/210 as well. It's not perfect but it's a good film to watch.
I'm only just discovering this take on the Alice stories. Mainly due to a friend of mine gushing over this adaptation's Humpty Dumpty.
I recently watched the 1949 Alice in Wonderland, please do a review on this one. It has a very different beginning than most Alice Films, starting with the university and the three Littles girls waiting for the queen to arrive, also something about a bell. Please watch
For the second film they stole A LOT of ideas from the game Alice: madness returns.
Because my world would be a wonderland ....
Why am I blocked to save alice in wonderland ?????
"Mad" is so perfect, terrific grotesque and fun at same time.
🥰 I was looking for covers of this song and discovered this gem. This one is by far the most unique - To me this is like the party version of the Original Sin. I like the energy and devotion to the character you put into this. I also love the magazine covers throughout the videos. It's so hard to find the pulp magazines or books. This is great. Do you have a download option for this song? Now you just gotta do 'Kiss by a rose', by Seal. Tee hee. :) If anything, thanks for making this.
I wonder why they dont make this character a Nightwing villain in Bludhaven. You would think Batman has more than enough foes. Give NW that pedo-serial killer border linr frustrated homo trangender sexual with overdoseage of Steroid human growth hormone w/venom..
haha.. thank you for this video, it's wonderful. I wish we could see the cut footage of the We're All Mad Here scene. I agree with you, this my favorite version but I can't quite say why.
If you ever plan to return, do you think you could look at the Hanna-Barbera Wonderland adaptation?
I actually enjoyed Alice through the looking glass
And how his mind control works scientifically?
Friends please watch my Russian sleeping experiment video also
Wow. I'm just impressed that anyone did an analysis of Dreamchild. It's one of my top two or three British favourites. Thanks.
