  • Well, after several requests and a few delays, here it is! My review of the cult classic Czech film "Neco z Alenky," a.k.a. "Alice," directed by Jan Svankmajer. I suspect everybody who watches this will immediately sic the Queen of Hearts upon my noggin, so while you all sharpen your cutlasses and axe blades, I'm going to hide. :P
ALSO, I know what I plan to do for the next video - a review of the 1985 Miniseries starring Natalie Gregory as Alice - but I'm not entirely sure of what I'll do for the video(s) after that. I have several options, I just don't know what to cover first. If any of you have suggestions, or any questions, feel free to pose them in the comments.
In the meantime, hope you all enjoy this one! And don't feel TOO angry with me. Heh.

That was fantastic! I'm so happy to have found a series of videos dedicated to one of my favorite books. This is one of my favorite adaptations, if not my favorite. I understand where you're coming from, but I personally delight in how grotesque and morbid everything is. Looking forward to future videos!

The only part that really disturbed me in this movie was when the mouse on her head was nailing those things onto her head… but that twist ending at the end had me gasping I said whattttttttttt.

Also, I'd like to recommend a coffee-table book called Alice's Wonderland by Catherine Nichols, which gives a comprehensive run-down of many different Alice versions. Of course there's that 1985 American TV version, but I've just also been reminded of two BBC versions that owe a lot to Doctor Who alumni--a 1973 version that stars Sarah "Nyssa" Sutton as Alice and a 1986 version directed by Barry Letts that featured Elisabeth "Sarah Jane Smith" Sladen as the Dormouse and other actors who'd shown up in Doctor Who.

Would love to see a review of the 1985 multipart tv film, the one with Ringo and Carol Channing 🐇

It makes sense that The White Rabbit would be a stuffed corps. He is late, he's always late.

I honestly have to agree with you on the rating on this movie.
I was super excited when I first heard about it. It seemed to have all the things that were up my alley. Dark, gruesome, morbid, psychological and completely in dream logic (I do think too many people try to give Wonderland a point when it's literally just a dream).
However, the first time I watched it, I couldn't even get through the first few minutes. And on my second watch, I had to force myself to finish it. Which was sad because, again, it had the recipe of everything I liked.
But, I think my issue with the film is simply it's pacing.
(Also, nice to see a series dedicated to adaptations of one of my favorite stories of all time!)

I support a review of the 1949 version as well.

May I suggest that future episodes of this series review the 1949 Lou Bunin version, the Great Performances version with Kate Burton, and the "Alice"-inspired "Phoebe in Wonderland"?

I've seen all three of those; I might consider them. The 1949 version has some particularly interesting history behind it, too.

This movie is so disturbing. I mean the book is disturbing in certain areas but this film pushes the envelope.

It is a masterpiece of stop and live animation. Grotesque and nightmarish vision of Carroll's book. Mesmerizing as a film of surreal imagination from the mind of Jan Svankmajer. One of a kind! I wonder what Ray Harryhausen thought about this adaptation. " I'm late! I'm late! For a very horrific date! "

You could do a mini-installment of Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More" video... (Hats off to Tom: he achieved the impossible. He made Alice in Wonderland WEIRDER.)
