This is the only fix I’ve found with some success but one side of my display is dark and has lost its warmth, I’ve played around with the positioning and the width of the cut of paper but I either get the lines back or have Grayish colours down one half Mine also went past just the lines and the centre of the tv freezes and it’s very annoying

I wonder if the new mainboard had the backlights set to max and the old one didnt, and it maybe killed off the leds that were on the way out. I did one of these ambilights where i bypassed a bad led and the tv only lasted a couple of days, ended up having to get a new set of strips for it, also ive done a couple of these where there was high resistance over those connectors in the middle of the strips..always worth checking over them

Greetings: Television sets have degraded since the 50s. I remember watching a set glow about 5 minutes then the sound came on. Another 10 minutes the picture started. About 20 minutes I was watching McHale's Navy. Yhe fun part was shutting it off after and then the lights. 30 minutes later, the screen was still glowing. A great nightlight 4 that last minute bathroom run. Those of U who can relate 2 this understand my point. These young pups think the new panel sets R so great. The truth is young laddys, the consumer market has been a disposable business after the 80s (including autos). They love 2 tease me about my old dinosaurs. Yeah but they still function.. and I can repair them if they fail...with a smile.

Allen you were lucky there, if you have a scrap tv the clips that hold frames down on vestels it’s like half an oblong those that normally break off keep them as they can be used to lift the prism sheet off of the leds, they act like a spacer you can space them out evenly hope you understand what I mean 😊

i should have picked up a 2 year old hisense tv i saw dumped in the street, most likely backlights the next day kids had smashed the screen out of it a 4k set with hdr .They use double sided tape on the reflection sheet and the one guy i watched made it look a pain and thats why i left it ,the day after another american guy i follow done the backlights on a 65 inch hisense set he carefully manipulated the sheet and made it look far easier ,he used to suction cup things to remove the screen ,had his video came out a day before i would have got it .

I've done 1 of these but put a née backlight in 90 pounds from ebay. When I removed the screen I'm sure I cliped the black frame of and lifted the screen of with the frame I'm sure it looked like you removed the adhesive away from the screen.

@@mikeuk1954 They can be under a tenner for a complete set, but you really need to know what you're doing with them. First time I tried I put the screen back in 1mm out in the frame and cracked the panel as I was clipping it back together. Big risk if it's someone else's set as you're then on the hook for a replacement TV.

  • @jasejj

Have to surmise that the LEDs started to go on the fritz, and the customer got round this by turning the backlight control right down (which I think everyone should do out the box). You replace the main board but that was set to run the LEDs at full pelt again? 2019 and needing new backlights, pathetic really. Good old China!

@@paulb4uk unless it was a cracked screen... I have to say failure after two years is bordering on criminal, the sale of goods act really should kick in on products this new - and premature failures on Hisense TVs is far from uncommon as well. It may have just been the two capacitors on the LED power supply - these commonly fail on these, which would have been a major score.

@@paulb4uk They're not up to much in my experience - I have seen several with issues at young ages that really shouldn't be going wrong like that, and Sharp actually sued Hisense in 2017 in the States as the sets Hisense had contract manufactured for them (and were identical to the ones Hisense were selling) failed safety testing and were found to be non-compliant which damaged Sharp's reputation. I do have a very old Cello set that is all Hisense inside and has lasted, but the quality of the software and the sound is abysmal. Not for me, although I'd have one for free!

You usually replace both diodes. I've done a bunch of repairs like these on tool battery chargers. However, I usually put in the physically biggest diode I can find. For something like this, I'd put in a TO-220 or even TO-243, just so that they have a bigger heatsinking surface. Those tend to be dual diodes and I just connect the two in parallel and make it into a compatible pinout by soldering a 1.5mm2 wire to the back, snipping off the middle pin and connecting the side pins in parallel... As it's the component that heats up the most and often times they are used in the sun, you have to go above and beyond on designs without fans.

There appears to be a downloadable manual for the remote on manualslib (not implying that there is anything wrong with how you are programming it, but it may help). I suspect you already know that from about 04:00 to 07:00, your video repeats.

Re doing free repairs, i have been in this situation and it always the case that expensive parts are required, what i do is only charge for the parts if the customer can afford them. Going back many years when you visted customers homes to do the repair you could tell the genuine cases of hardship, and i have often done low cost repairs to try and help them make ends meet.

It's normally set/search code and press power then channel up until tv switches off. however they are all different those remotes.

Every TV repair man needs a Logitech Harmony remote, these have a massive database of remotes online, but they were expensive new and are no longer sold (but still supported). I have a number of these remotes in slightly rough cosmetic shape but working. If you send me your address I'll chuck one in the post for you. As for this remote, either do a search scan as another commenter has posted, or maybe check Sharp, as they are of course the highest-profile company using UMC (the Poland factory was originally Sharp and is now back to being owned by them). Putting UMC LED22 into the Logitech database it comes back with Technika so maybe worth checking your manual for that as well. Also, UMC use Shenzhen MTC for their main boards. Other companies, notably Haier (a very common OEM of small TVs which are commonly mistaken for UMC as they're so similar inside), Cello, and JVC in the US also use the same supplier so again might be ones to check. This set definitely looks like it's MTC, you can tell from the on-screen displays (and the cluster of buttons on the top was a feature common to MTC-based TVs in the early 2010s!).

I do have in interest in electronics, have done since I was young. I picked up a free Samsung LE32R88BD TV, the owner said it does work if left alone long enough. I tried it at home and there was a loud crackling noise like arcing. I got in to it could see nothing blown so googled it and the prime problem was the caps under the shield on the main board. Sure enough once I'd removed the shield (took some doing), I saw dark crystal coating on the shield directly above the capacitors SMC ones. So I ordered some and replaced all of them under the shield. And it works perfectly. Currently being used as a large monitor for game play. I actually ripped a trace removing one cap so had to fix that with a strand from solder Braide.
