All good Allen, you have done the right thing👍 But as it is Christmas time, pop round to see her in the new year, have a cup of tea and some Christmas cake, chat for an hour and leave without payment, that would mean the world to her and you will feel great too. Have a great Christmas.
Nice thing to do Allen To reset the EEPROM manually here are the steps (Do this at your own risk). I have done this many times before and had success. 1. Identify the EEPROM IC (24CXX) 2. Identify the Flash memory IC (25LXX) 3. Identify on the EEPROM IC the SDA and VCC pins 4. Connect a jumper across the SDA and VCC pins 5. Power ON the TV and hold for 20-25 sec 6. Break the jumper 7. Power OFF the TV Powering ON the TV again should show a reset EEPROM. GOOD LUCK!!
All good Allen, you can't save every tv, you sometimes have to draw the line. If you'd replaced the Eprom charged her and then the backlights went 2 months down the road, you'd feel even worse. If she's happy so should you be, happy Christmas to you both. Jeremy
You did the right thing and it sounds like she's happier than she would have been if she got her old TV back at a cost of 75 quid. She's reached 82 and she's no fool. The old un's are tougher than you think.
A good outcome. If it had been a 2 year old Vestel which had an LED failure which you were writing off to sell her a brand new set for £ 300 then you'd be right to feel guilty. But as you say, that was an aging Samsung set - it dates from 2007 according to Samsung's website, so is 17 years old, very much at the end of its life. And the rest of the components in that set were 17 years old, so only a matter of time before something like the CCFL backlights failed. The customer has got a "new" TV which she's happy with and you've charged her a fair price for a 'used' or refurbed set. She wouldn't be able to pick up a new 40" set for £ 70 - it would be double or triple that. And it's not like you're going to make any money out of her old set - sure you might get a couple of spare parts but that'll be about it and given the age of the set, the demand for such parts now will be very low.
I have two of these TVs in daily use in our bedrooms. I did the smart thing though. Not long after buying them I changed all the capacitors for better quality ones as I had heard about the capacitor problems. Neither has missed a beat since. You did the right thing for your customer and she has a reliable TV to watch over Christmas.
You did the right thing. Adjust the new price down a bit if you must--after a few days to sleep on it. But with a home visit and setup, you did well as it is.
Alan the main thing is. The said lady is chuffed to bits you feel. Awful. As you say because your conscience is playing up. Because you are a nice person. But you have done her a great service and imo. You should feel proud job done
Ach, it’s Christmas time Allen. Should have gave her another tv and said “Merry Christmas.” ( unless she’s had her winter fuel allowance ) 😂😂😂😂 Nah joking aside, well done. One pensioner has a tv for her Christmas viewing. 👍👍👍👍
I do it all the time,I always have spare tv sets in stock,it's either wait X days/weeks the part to arrive,or for a couple of extra money, you get a used one the same day.
Rest easy fella, its better she has a tv from you than from Currys. Set her tv up with RUclips, have her subscribe to see your repair mastery and challenges. Did you try rubbing bacon on the eprom? 🤔
Made complete financial sense for the customer, same price to fix, for a new tv is a great compromise to an end of life product. No doubt Alan will probs gift it or sell at a significantly reduced price.
As I was watching I was thinking you should provide a loaner over Xmas with an option to buy, and then you went and (kind of) did just that. If the "new" TV is in the same price range as the fix + a 2 year warranty to boot, then it's a win.
Gift it to the old dear as it's christmas and throw in a five year warranty because she shouldn't buy one without as you always say , all the best for the season hope you have a good one
You have done her proud Allen best thing you could do cruel o be kind she is far better off with a newer model. I'm like you toning down two weeks before Christmas have you had the " can you get the record player repaired before Christmas " yet it's been up in the loft since February we got it down a week before Christmas and it don't work.we get it every year and not by the same person!
Those I price up at £55 if they work (had one that arrived today in a box that no doubt originally contained its replacement - a 50" LG). If it's £70 to repair, it's not worth it. At 18-20 years it's probably lasted longer than Samsung would have engineered it for - time to move on.
No problem with your offer, but the free publicity for gifting an 82 year old a TV (with warranty) for xmas will give you happy feels and probably drive more custom. Its also one less to keep stored away so frees up some space.
You should have no qualms, You're clearly a decent guy, also professional in your approach of doing things properly. And you have definitely done the right thing by that elderly lady. Who now has a good and reliable television again, indeed one with now guaranteed reliability that she can be enjoying.
No problem at all. Given she didn't have any attachment to the old one, the only relevant point remaining is that she had a broken TV, and now she's got a working one that's better. Would you be feeling bad if you'd fixed the old one the same day and also upgraded it to LEDs and a better panel while you were at it for free? Of course not! Conversely, would you feel good if you knew there was a better immediate-fix option for around the same money, but didn't tell her? I think the real issue is you are feeling guilty about an old lady paying you money. She's happy, you've done a good deed. Enjoy your Christmas guilt free! 🙂
Looks like a tv that is better built compared to the new 1s now. Don't feel bad about selling her a tv you have probably done her a favour it's a lot of money for a pensioner to fork out for a new set and plus you've given a year's warranty nobody can argue
if you scrapped hers and then sold her a new one for £400 then it would be shame on you. but if as what you did was give her a newer and possibly better tv for the same cost of the repairs. Then that's a great thing to do.
Nothing to feel bad about but since your an upcoming RUclips star then donate her the new TV or never go and get the money! 1 good turn deserves another!
Hello I think myself she's 82 years I would of gave her the tv its Christmas she's 82 but that's me what I would have done I mean 82 poor woman it's just a tv I've gave 2 tvs away just recently
Good on you Allen. I am sure that the lady will be over the moon with it.
Especially as she has a TV to watch.
Regards,
Brian
👏👍🏴👏👍🏴
You did the right thing making an elderly neighbor happy with a working TV.
"we'll come to an arrangement in the new year"..... That DOES sound a bit dodgy 😂😂😂😂😂
Nothing to feel guilty about.... You did well highlander 👍💚💚💚
You did the right thing , Allen. A newer TV beat an old repair that as you said could fail again. The newer one might use less electricity as well.
All good Allen, you have done the right thing👍
But as it is Christmas time, pop round to see her in the new year, have a cup of tea and some Christmas cake, chat for an hour and leave without payment, that would mean the world to her and you will feel great too.

Shes had a bargain and you’ve went above and beyond already with this.
She’s had a lot of years with the old tv and now she’s got a better one for £75.
That’s a win win in my book.
A right good chunky bezel, love it.
Can only agree, you did the correct thing,Nice one.

Oh here's me thinking you'd do something other than change backights, yippee, you've actually mentioned a component
Give her the TV, and you'll feel better, Allen.
You did the right thing. Adjust the new price down a bit if you must--after a few days to sleep on it. But with a home visit and setup, you did well as it is.

Lots of respect to you Allen. Have a geat festive season and enjoy.
I do it all the time,I always have spare tv sets in stock,it's either wait X days/weeks the part to arrive,or for a couple of extra money, you get a used one the same day.
Allen would be good to turn off your disco lights as it causes confusion to what your repairs show .
Sometimes you've got to weigh up what's best for all involved & you made the right call Allen 👍🏻
Rest easy fella, its better she has a tv from you than from Currys. Set her tv up with RUclips, have her subscribe to see your repair mastery and challenges.
Did you try rubbing bacon on the eprom? 🤔
You have done the right thing Allen. Be happy.
Nothing to feel bad about in the slightest!
It's X-Mas, give her the TV. You feel real good for at least a week. That's more than Pound 75 worth.
Made complete financial sense for the customer, same price to fix, for a new tv is a great compromise to an end of life product. No doubt Alan will probs gift it or sell at a significantly reduced price.

You did the right thing, the old tv would be pulling a lot of power for the backlight compared to the LED set
You have done her proud Allen best thing you could do cruel o be kind she is far better off with a newer model. Good man.
I sometimes do free tv repairs if the customer is elderly or in dire straights
@@reacey they already get their money for nothing and their chicks for free
Looks like a tv that is better built compared to the new 1s now. Don't feel bad about selling her a tv you have probably done her a favour it's a lot of money for a pensioner to fork out for a new set and plus you've given a year's warranty nobody can argue
Silence of the lambs
Not sure if it is concurrent with your previous videos, but this one has some odd feedback when changing scenes that causes the audio to crack
Plymouth sound 97 fm and 1152 mw and pirate fm miss you Allen mate
The penny dropped as soon as I read this lol. Remember Alan on pirate fm
think this is the tv I have.
not used for some time its been under my PC desk but funny as just tried it today and its all fine still and nice picture
If she is happy with the tv you set up for her, you shouldn't feel bad about it as long as everyone happy about the tv
Newer tvs use less energy and electricity
That' is good for a TV I cannot believe that TV last for that long
if you scrapped hers and then sold her a new one for £400 then it would be shame on you. but if as what you did was give her a newer and possibly better tv for the same cost of the repairs. Then that's a great thing to do.

Also she desperately needed an upgrade!
If you can afford to maybe don’t charge her for the new TV.
Give it to her as a gift I would.
mine is a Samsung LE40R87BD
Hello I think myself she's 82 years I would of gave her the tv its Christmas she's 82 but that's me what I would have done I mean 82 poor woman it's just a tv I've gave 2 tvs away just recently
Just gift the tv her
USA one dollar bills?
Sort her out with a spare newer TV for her and scrap the old TV for parts
Don’t flog a dead horse.
Look how old it looks inside it it's way too old to repair
