    Problem with Audi is audisteer/understeer and how the quattro system works, it's a real deal killer.

    So what WAS THE COST for APR Stage III? Around $10K for the add-ons perhaps? I already have the car, a 2016 S7 with 70K miles on it so far. Just out of CPO coverage about 8 months ago

      I actually have a complete cost breakdown video in the S6 build playlist. Keep in mind with inflation parts pricing and labor will have gone up since then. Yeah plan for at least 10k depending on what you go with.

    Absolutely get the aftermarket warranty!!! Saved me in my Sq5 needing a new engine $28k!!!! Olive warranty look it up! Also make sure you are in good with your dealer. Get to know the advisors a or get close to at least one advisor. The warranty company wanted to tell Audi to tear the car down and Audi refused saying that they knew what was wrong with it because they ARE Audi and know what they are talking y. Warranty company had to cover it at that point! New engine!

    I bought extended warranty on my S6 for 4k... and I have had over 20K of work done, from a transmission replacement, steering column, motor mounts and all down directly with Audi. In my honest opinion well worth it. However I will say the dealer always did the service, and it would take forever to get the work authorized.

    You think I am better off getting a B9 S4 over a C7 S6? Both around 90k miles; S6 I am looking at has all the major issues addressed and has a great service history. The S4 is flawless besides some rock chips and also has a good history. Kinda in a toss up atm because I have enough cash to throw at either one for repairs if that becomes an issue

    • @savagepandaprojects
      @savagepandaprojects 5 дней назад

      Yeah I would do the B9 S4. The newer 8 speeds are just so much better. I have always been iffy on the older DL501 DSGs, they are prone to mech unit failures. The 4.0TT is nice when everything works in top shape but for the money I'd rather have the newer car, better interior, still excellent performance etc.

    Boss, thanks for the recap/history. I am lucky bc i am in Canada and there is a APR dealership here who can tune my car to stage 2 (I will also have an aftermarket downpipe). My question is, if I drive my stage 2 vehicle to USA, would i be breaking the law or some thing?

    • @savagepandaprojects
      @savagepandaprojects 9 дней назад

      Glad to help, It's unlikely that anyone is going after you over a tune unless your doing something to draw attention to yourself like reckless driving, street racing etc. lol It is important to always keep emissions laws in mind. Would always recommend catted pipes for best results. Typically with any "stage 2 tune" (for most any car), you will usually have to flash back to stage 1 or stock tune in order to pass state inspection. The reason for this is because the stage 2 tune cancels out the check engine light caused by there not being a factory catalyst in place. Hope that helps!

  • @boopadin
    @boopadin 10 дней назад

    Any thoughts on the timing chain and tensioners? I've read on various forums that they're also a common point of failure. I'm in a similar boat to OP and looking at a '16 S6 with 75k on the clock and am concerned about the engine-out job.

    • @savagepandaprojects
      @savagepandaprojects 5 дней назад

      You know I have never quoted one but if that is becoming a point of failure absolutely that'll break the bank. I know on the older 2.0L TSI motors they fail constantly, Never really saw them on the 3.0L S/C motors. I only owned my S6 for about 1 year and 10k miles of driving so fortunately gone before any major catastrophes.

  • @furis8888
    @furis8888 11 дней назад

    when a shop wants 200 USD more for a flywheel than online, i will buy it online. Easy matching against VIN to get the correct parts. The warranty is easy, if something happens, it all boil downs to if you as a mechanic made a good job, did you inspect the parts if they seem ok? some shops even denied to replace the flywheel with clutch etc. due to me having my own parts. But believe me I will eventually find someone willing to do the job. So it is all up to the shop to decide to take my money for the work or not. And sure enough 2 shops were willing to do the job.

    • @savagepandaprojects
      @savagepandaprojects 11 дней назад

      Totally understand that for sure. I would always price my quotes out to match online pricing for parts when possible. For small 2-4 bay shops, they likely aren't going to get the same margins a massive e commerce titan will get on the same things especially service parts imported in huge containers. Yes if a tech sees an issue with parts they should speak up but bear in mind these guys are typically flat rate so that means if they aren't turning wrenches they aren't getting paid. If they are going to have to take time away from fixing other cars to comb through a boatload of parts they aren't getting paid for that time. Customers assume responsibility if they supply incorrect/insufficient parts. Shops can warranty labor on the actual install, but if you didn't buy the parts from them they obviously cannot warranty them. Hope that makes sense.

      Customers tend to get irritated when info is withheld and later comes up to bite them. I've found the more forthcoming you are with someone the better. People get worried to tell someone something might take X hours to do as it may seem undesirable, but then when a job goes longer than expected, the customer goes crazy saying it shouldn't take that long. Educate the customer and give them the real story of what actually needs to be done and they won't be as likely to come back at you.

    • @savagepandaprojects
      @savagepandaprojects 29 дней назад

      Whats happening, yes you can certainly get well over 100k on the Gen 3 MQB motors when maintained correctly. They don't really have timing chain issues as the older one had like on the MK6 golfs etc. Would plan for a water pump as that is one of the most common failures. That would also be the appropriate time to do carbon clean as well. On an individual level myself I'd try to get lower mileage just to have a bit more peace of mind but that's just me. This car in video was eventually sold at 55k miles and had zero issues at the time. (was APR stage 3 IS38 turbo)

In most cases since these care are so prone to turbo failure anyways its just easy to go straight to RS7 turbos for "stage 3". I was never stage 1-2 myself so I can't say I had the opportunity to compare each level. You can always look over some examples with dyno graphs to see differences in specific RPM where they are making more/less power :)

    The limitation as to modifications comes from the fact that the stronic is a dual-clutch transmission and so far no one has decoded the code to code the transmission and it cannot be programmed and the transmission itself has the potential in series up to 700 NM max. And the drop in price is the only idea I can think of that Audi wanted to go to compete with the competition and they changed the price to be lower than the competition followed by quality ( although the performance inside is good ) But it gives the impression of being very plastic at some points compared to its predecessors I own a 2019 A7 C8 55 tfsi

      Yeah would be nice to see a TCU tune for these cars but probably not something they are putting any focus into. Would be nice though!

    I'm what you described at 6:40 - I'm looking at 2014 Audi S6/56k Miles, priced for about $28K, I looked up the VIN to see if the recall for the oil screen was fixed, nothing came up, I'm a bit confused when it comes to that, what percentage of Audi's had the problematic oil screen? If I call any Audi service dept, will they be able to see how the Audi was built (built using a different oil screen)/ to see if it has a recall that was addressed/ to see that it had an open recall and if it does would I pay anything out of pocket to have the oil screen recall serviced? I called the Used dealer in Maryland (where I live) I'm buying it from, I wanted to test drive it, but they said it's under MSI (MD state inspection) which makes me feel more at ease as MSI is a fairly strict inspection also so that I don't have to pay for the inspection or repairs myself I were to buy out of state. Carfax history is honestly phenomenal compared to other Audis, 2 Owner, and both of them serviced them early and frequently How much am I looking to spend maintaining the vehicle every year? and my biggest concern is the oil screen. Thanks

      So with that case you want to get as much detail on service records as possible. From what I have seen ALL Audi 4.0T models (A8/S8, S6/S7/RS7) 2012-2018 are affected by the oil screen issue. Also keep in mind, even if service records show the oil screen TSB was performed and a "revised screen" was installed, its still inherently a terrible design having that oil screen as a potential restriction. Don't let the oil screen concern alone scare you away from these cars, but just please be mindful of it. Most people once they get their hands on these cars they are focusing on upgrades and/or reliability and in order to support that you're replacing turbos along with removing the oil screen altogether. My old 2013 S6 had 69K on the stock turbos when I got it (clean one owner car, never previously modified) When we did the overhaul at the shop, the stock turbos we're nearly siezed up. I always say You must budget for replacing all of those related components. Often times I hear people say dealers won't replace worn stock turbos during the oil screen recall if the shaft play isnt bad enough. So like I said in the video, you NEED to have some funds set aside if you plan on getting one of these cars. Hope that helps!

    I have M dct and zf8, M DCT is WAYYYY better than ZF8.... Driving them back to back and you'll know.

      I actually prefer the DCT. Now that I'm used to the DSG in my RS3 it feels the best in terms of snappiness

    The thumbnail says it all. 😂😂 The best new gen Audi to buy looks like the SQ7. They’re big and heave but they make a ton of power with simple mods.

    hey im looking for an rs3 myself, do have a question though maybe you know. is there a massive difference between the 2016 version vs 2018? i know the 2016 one has 367hp, and the 2018 has 400hp. but are there major downside's too either of em?

    Audi depreciation is real, I bought a Q5 in July 2022 and already had about £6500 negative equity. The upshot is that I managed to strike a deal with my local Audi marshal dealership for a A6 with 11 miles on the clock, black edition for £39k… technically a 2nd hand as it was a showroom model. All bells and whistles as it were… pity about the rear seat cupholders but will mod them in later.
