RE the ULA tweet: I would guess that refueling a Starship is probably going to cost on the order of $10M+/launch in the near-term. That $2M in fuel and $8M in equipment/depreciation and operations. I think the figure of 5 refueling flights for Starship is just the minimum to get to lunar orbit, so it could be more since I would bet that doesn't completely fill the propellent tanks. So the refueling flights to get the HLS to the moon is probably going to cost SpaceX on the order of $100M, assuming the refueling tanker and on-orbit refueling station gets reused frequently. Ultimately the marginal cost to get to the Moon or Mars is just the fuel, which will probably be around $20M assuming frequent and rapid reuse and automation of most of the launch, rendezvous and refueling operations.

I appreciate this interview. The one criticism I have, tho: is both interviewer and CEO referring to the political ‘deep state’ bs with respect to space- without explanation. As a long-time proponent of commercial space development from within the Federal government (a couple of decades ago) I’m all too familiar with the frustrations, believe me; and whatever happened with the first Varda entry approval was unacceptable. But I come from the school where, you do post-mortems; ie., you find out what was broken- including procedurally & go fix it; you don’t’ just bitch about it. And I for one have not seen a clean report about what- EXACTLY- happened, and why. Nor did I hear any additional clarity here, unfortunately. - Dave Huntsman

i don't get it as soon as spacex assigns starlink launches to starship all the bandwidth of falcon goes to the open market again , who is going to want to launch on an unproven neutron when they can launch in a falcon at the same price and much lower insurance costs given the track record of hundreds of successful launches ?? i get it you want to pump a stock and can't invest in spacex but still

It’s interesting to see a South African (Elon Musk) v a New Zealander (Peter Beck) as rivals in the space industry. The two nations have a long history of rivalry on the Rugby field. A rivalry/relationship which became extremely political at times (think Invictus and beyond).

Nice video. In the first few 2 years Neutron will ramp initially like electron, due to the learning curve / manufacturing ramp up. But Neutron will have far more demand than Electron (which slowed Electron ramp up) and also be reusable, so will ramp much faster after year 2. Definitely going to beat electrons record of fastest to 50 launches!! 😮
