I totally read Dean as bisexual and I'm not someone who tends to think too much about or read too much into these things. The fact that his attraction to men was just one more aspect of himself that he felt like he couldn't express just added to the tragedy that both those boys suffered. In general it was a sign of resilience that he was able to cut loose and enjoy life at times, whether as dressing up like a cowboy or appreciating the feel of silk.

For me, Benny doesn't feel like someone to ship Dean with, but he does feel like a queer friendship. Like "yeah, we're messed up in a similar way, so we gotta help each other out AND make stupid gay jokes while doing it". I can attest to it being like that in my own friend group.

The amount of hate and stigma we as the bi community get absolutely makes no sense to me. It's disgusting that we are not allowed to still be attracted to all if we decide to be monogamous with someone. Like you said; we "pick a side." It's messed up man. I hate it. As someone who is bi and in a "straight presenting" relationship (my partner is also bi btw) it honestly baffles me so much. These terms I feel best represent me and one of the many reasons why I love destiel and Dean and Cas as characters is because I relate to their story, not just as individuals but how their relationship grows and how they change each other. How love can help you find yourself, or more so, show you who you really are and have been all along. :') Anyway sorry for the side rant. I really enjoy your videos and your analysis. And yea, bi misrepresentation and stigma and hate really pisses me off and so many people just don't get it. We cop a lot of crap being bisexual and it's not okay. I'll always wear my flag colours with pride though no matter what because I am proud of who I am. 💗💜💙

I am the same age as Dean Winchester but I’m female from the UK and never had an issue about gayness etc. But I was aware of the attitude to gay men. I do remember though that even as it was becoming more acceptable in society to be gay that there was a weird stance on bisexuality. That some people did not believe it existed. If you said you were bi you were either gay or “just looking for attention” once someone said they thought bisexuals were selfish and greedy because they wouldn’t make up their minds. And for a long time… and to this day.. some people relate being bi as being more likely to cheat (with the opposite gender to their partner) which makes zero sense. The US is more conservative than the UK and I can see that being outright bi would have lost them a lot of fans. I’m glad things are changing. Slowly but surely. In my life time it’s already changed so much.

I am always confused by people saying “that’s gay / for women/ men” etc Because the only thing that makes someone gay is sexually desiring your own sex. Full stop. So bi just means desire for both. I watched Supernatural with straight men and they didn’t pick up any hint of Dean being anything other than straight. Even Castiel’s confession in 15 ep28 was seen as platonic. To me a woman it seemed so obvious. But I admit I never expected them to acknowledge it. And people can view the character in anyway they choose and no one can take that from you.

A a younger sibling to an abusive parent i do relate to sam in some ways. Seeing the people you love be dicked around by a man you once briefly idolized really shows you how sad they really are. You aren't *not* scared of them, but there comes a time when they become very little, in your eyes, their tantrum becoming so indicative of their lack of maturity. Once you grow up you simply refuse to show respect to someone who doesn't deserve it. Although if i were sam i would make sure dean didn't have to pick up the pieces (even tho he'd probably do it anyway)

I feel so sorry for John sometimes, losing Mary totally destroyed him, even though doesn’t change the fact that was a crappy father, and I wish the show didn’t make him disappear on later seasons like it did, I always felt like the writers were afraid of giving him screen time because of all the backlash and hate that would do

What truly baffles me about this fxckup is that 1. these seasoned actors are apparently incapable of improv 2. that despite knowing about what the fandom would find important and knowing how sensitive a topic LGBTQ+ issues are, they haven't actually put in the work to understand why Destiel is important to many of their viewers. it just speaks of a complete lack of care. not only is the "they were prepared for a different type of question" excuse not good, it is the worst possible one, because you shouldn't be arriving to a Q&A session with a script in mind in the first place! gods, I never even watched this show and this pisses me off so much

Can we talk about Sam always being there to push him away from troubles? Once, there was a moment between Dean and a young, cute, blond cop (gave me some gay twink vibes😂) in which a very drunk Dean (Yellow Fever episode) was kind of trying flirt with the guy by saying he was AWESOME, the dude was all pink chicks and saying you are too😂 and then Sam just came back and took his bro under the arm and driven him away like that.😂Sam did that with Dean's girls too. The times when they had to work and Dean got distracted by staring at some ladies. 😏Can we talk about Benny (with whom Dean had to literally break up with for Sam, and Sam had to break up with Amelia due to stay with Dean). Season 8 was a really weird season but I loved it! Dean to Sam: Choose, Sam! It's me or Her! Sam to Dean: Okay, but if I leave Her you have to leave Him! 😂 Looks like they are in marriage crisis and have to break up with their mistresses. LMAO I MEAN WHO DOES IT?! Don't you want your big/little brother to live a happy life with a woman or have a male friend dude??! 😂 They are so fucked! Codependent and toxic but I love them.😂 And then, can we talk about Alastair and Dean's 40 years in hell? The creepy charged teacher/student relationship between these two?! I mean there is a lot of tension in season 4 when Dean is torturing Alastair but before that saying "you're gonna be disappointed" like he really doesn't actually want to disappoint him because in Hell he did everything he could to be A GOOD student! And when Dean's is asking "How is it to settle down with a hunter?!" to the gay couple hunters😂! Dude, you literally live settled down with a hunter in a bunker, you had an adopted child and at the end of the show you live happily very domestic and even have a dog! Dean's own blindness is the saddest and funniest thing ever! And wanna talk about Heaven?! Boy, do I hear you. I have a feeling every time Godmom looked at me or hugged/kissed me she was " seeing " Goddaddy, her second husband, Herbert Berghof. But that conflict is over. I AM Herbert Berghof.

It's fairly easy to criticize John and label him a bad father; but it has to be taken into account what led to him being an extremely harsh father in the first place to his children and that was the despicable actions of the yellow eyed demon, I mean take a moment and picture it if you will, if you had seen someone you loved and had children by pinned up to the ceiling and then burst into flames before your very eyes that would scar you and screw your mind up for life too, Therefore it's fair to say that John Winchester was robbed of any chance of being a good father to his kids the moment that happened; the moment the Realm of the supernatural came into his life and essentially took everything from him, which left no other choice but to have a strike back response, For it was in that instance that he went from being private citizen, loving, caring husband and father John to being a kickass Marine soldier and Drill instructor John who was (no pun intended) hell-bent on making his sons strong, powerful fighters for a war that was not his own making, that he did not ask for and did not want any part of until it came into his life and shattered it to a million pieces, a war that irrevocably changed and damaged him beyond repair, He didn't want that life for his sons but he felt he had no choice except to prepare them for it in any way possible, no matter how harsh his tactics were, If he had somehow fallen or stumbled into it, the way his alternative reality version did and turned it into a sort of private militia agency group called huntercorp I'm pretty certain that Dean and Sam's childhood would have been drastically different, possibly a little bit happier the way their alternate versions were but that was certainly not the case, he was forcibly thrusted into warrior mode and was kept there due to the despicable actions of the Yellow-eyed demon, therefore YED should ultimately be blamed for EVERYTHING the winchester brothers have been through, that their own father put upon them and why john was never able to live up to his potential in becoming the very best dad he could have been. 🙄😔😁😉😎🔥💯👍🏻

No idea how I ended up here - but glad I did! As a hetero supernatural fan, I always read Dean as bi and honestly I would’ve loved for him to just appreciate people he finds hot and flirt with whoever 😂 And I mean - who didn’t want Dean to find his true love?

Even more ironic is that for all the hatred John had towards his father Henry, he sure as hell ended up acting like him: Both are neglectful (if caring) parents who spent most on their time on their profession and disappeared for long periods of time, causing resentment on their children because of it. Both also died protecting their family from demons. And that's the tragedy of John Winchester: He recreated himself on Dean and Sam.

As a bi trans woman who dated only woman before coming out and transitioning, now dating only men. I was more like Sam than dean and I always thought dean was possibly bi and the more I think about it, it makes total sense that he is bi. Also from the outside looking in at my life people would have before I came out seen me as a cis hete male not knowing that I was always dressing as myself in secret since 10, so what ever he is we really can never know plus it’s a fictional character lol.

I think the writers were toying with the idea of him being bi for a long time which is why we get so many scenes with "tension" between Dean and another male character, but we also get scenes where Dean seems uncomfortable with the idea of homosexuality.

Whilst John wasn't perfect I feel to have a true understanding of John it's important you look at his backdrop. Given what John was going through he was brought up in survival mode himself after with what happened to Mary considering she brought him into this hunt without him knowing anything about it. Also Henry also abandoned John as a child too. He lost his best friend in the army and Mary as similar times. He was trying to do everything he could to keep his kids alive. He also sacrificed himself in the end to protect them.

Its the Straight Dean fan girls who hate it when you mention dean is bi. But it Blatantly obvious. The writers whrote it that way intentionally and the fans i guess dont want to see it

Note: i don't devalue any of the experience people had while growing up in a toxic environment I don't agree with you completely. You say that John is a terrible person and a terrible father. You say that he could drop the kids off at Bobby's during hunts, leave them in the dark about monsters. Now tell me, what would be your plan of actions, when your loved one got brutally killed by a demon? Would you leave your kids at your friend's house while you hunt the demon down? Or would you want the kids to be able to defend themselves? I believe he wanted them to be like soldiers not for his "war", but for their safety. Yeah, you can say that most people live a long happy life without this knowledge and preparation. But when a member of your family got murdered by one of the "monsters", moreover without any plausible reason, I believe you wouldn't want a happy "normal" life. I do think that John chose the most logical and reasonable way of raising them

This is a great video! I think I've seen it floating around for a while but never clicked cause I didn't really need to be convinced of this, however, I now just felt like seeing what you had to say and I think this covers it perfectly. I am a big Destiel fan, but 100% agree that that is not by a long shot the only evidence for Dean's queerness, as this video shows.

I never understood this hard labeling of sexuality. Its a spectrum.. I'm a guy not attracted to guys, but I've had some extremely close relationships with men that were very.. emotionally intimate. I also find muscular women very attractive.. I don't think I'm straight even though I've always exclusively been attracted to women. I'm just.. me.

You keep telling people not to be a dick in the comments but you are often condescending , patronizing and self righteous when you discuss these topics.

I'd watch the video, but Destiel shippers make me incredibly uncomfortable. That ship ruined the show for me. Not because its a gay ship, but because I genuinely don't see how people think Dean is into Cas. And no, nothing will convince me otherwise
