I love the insightful commentary on this issue.
Oh, I thought this would be about how the actors are spoken off (i.e. too old to be hot now) sometimes by the fandom!
In my experience, there is a two-sided ageism in most fandoms; if you're younger you are dismissed as knowing nothing, if you are older you are dismissed as being a 'weirdo' or 'creepy' for still being in fandom spaces/"invading" the spaces of young people. There's just no winning unless you are in your mid-twenties :/

Nice to see you man, I agree. It’s especially true with shippers. A lot of fandoms associate it with the younger generation, and while that’s true for the most part I see that there is also a lot of hostility when older people want to participate in that and get bullied because for some reason it’s seen as not mature if your older and you ship two characters and want to talk about it? I will never understand that. I agree, just let people enjoy things fandoms are for all ages. Some fans have been watching for a very long time.
And also, the hate on some of the younger generation for having different perspectives on a show is wrong as well.
I think everyone just needs to think good long and hard about why they started watching the show in the first place and why they loved it, why they are in groups and go to fan conventions and write fanfiction and whatever else they do. What ignited that passion? Well then focus on it, and don’t let others tell you what you should and shouldn’t see in a show, because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what the rest of the fan base sees, it only matters what YOU see and how it makes YOU feel. You are a fan, you’ll see it differently than some people, and if that’s because of generation- so what, that isn’t a bad thing. That’s what movies and tv were for. Everything is up for interpretation, even if the the show runners had a specific goal in mind, they can’t control how people take it, so why police others on it?
