Just a great video and much craftsmanship!

Hello from Northern Pennsylvania. We’re definitely known for are Cole and steel in Pennsylvania. like your show man. you point out a lot of nice tricks and things to do. That’s just amazing. spending time with your father and your brother doing something that y’all love is worth more than any knife in the world man. I used to do that stuff with my father and grandfather until my grandfather passed away by them My little brother was old enough to go with us. It’s just a lot of fun man. Good breakfasts and memories. I love your show on your content. You do some amazing work. Do you work on other knives for other individuals? I have a case rigging knife that needs a marlinspike. I love to have fixed. The bone on that knife is very nice. Keep the videos coming. I love learning from your channel. You have a good one brother.
@@JasonDoan-h6e I do work on other people's knives, but I do not have a marlinspike for a Case. You are the second person who has asked recently! If I come across one I will let you know!
@ thank you sir and you have a good rest of the night
Thank you for sharing again, very enjoyable.
When I was building a new deck at our lake cabin I found a dark colored California Redwood 2x4 that had extremely fine grain and tiny growth rings about 1/64". I rebuilt several sets of kitchen knives and those were some of the toughest and most beautiful handles I ever made. Just have to keep your eyes open. Another gorgeous wood I have been using is apple wood from dead trees or fallen branches found at abandoned orchards.
@@kknows3512 I had wondered about apple and pear wood, as my trees need to be pruned. I may check that out. Thank you!
I picked up a western 442 pen knife with very full blades at an estate sale recently. Tang stamp dates 50-61. It was in a small bag with a bare head jack knife with a "Berkshire Cut CO USA" tang stamp which I believe dates to 1939. The pair were $10. Like you, the pen knifes are to small for me, but I can't pass up vintage USA made knives.
@@dirtfishingdad_2_34 👍🏻
Your light wood could be curly or birds eye maple....complete guess on my part...but they look like they would make beautiful scales...thanks for sharing everything...some very thoughtful gifts.....God bless
@@jedijimknives Thank you, Jedi Jim. I look forward to using some of that wood!
I’m glad you enjoyed everything I sent you and thank you for the shout out. The lighter wood strips you showed last I think they might be maple but I’m not 100% sure. You picked up some nice knives at the show. I look forward to your future projects.

Went to the show too. I enjoy looking. Reminds me of arrowhead hunting when i was a kid. I enjoy your channel😇
@@MH-pz2wi There are a lot of good people at knife shows!
Very cool.. can’t wait to see how the wood looks on the knives you decide to use it on. Enjoyed the video 👍
@@KernArms Thank you sir!
100 per cent in agreement with you. I have went as soft as basswood on handles and done just fine. Not the softness of the wood that matters but the hardness of the finish.
@@RonaldNorwood-kn4bo Thank you!
Very clever to fill the pivot hole and redrill. Just a thought, it does move the kick closer to the pivot. The chance of the edge hitting the spring when closing is bigger now.
@@bartraeven2966 Thank you! When I get the measurements right, I have had no trouble with that. Of course, I have been careless in the past and made some not fit correctly at all!
How do we look at your online store?
@@thornekimroberts8502 www.allaboutpocketknives.com/Reverand
@ thank you sir! Keep up the great work!
How secure is this compared to a Case or Buck?
@@johnvelas70 The originals hold up very well. The Swinden rivets are steel. My replacement rivet is brass, which has about the same strength as the silver nickel pons that Case and Buck uses. Only time will tell if my repair will last.
@@southernknifehobbyist I always thought the Schrade was a better work knife. Case looks nice, Buck has an incredible warranty.
@ Schrade used to also have a great warranty, back when they were made in the USA. At one time they would even replace a knife if you lost it!

Impressive!! That turned out great! Making your own swinden key is really impressive. Wow. Thats a handsome barlow!
@@Kneiltheknifeguy I have enjoyed carrying it these last few weeks!
@southernknifehobbyist that's awesome!
Well Tim, again you've given me several good ideas that I'm going to use. That is a nice barlow, and it turned out well. I've successfully replaced swinden rivets on 2 scout knives, but it was a learning process. I like the feeler gauge idea; I'm going to try that next time. By the way, I've found a very good way to straighten or tweak a blade that doesn't involve hitting with a hammer. I've used the method many times, and I haven't broken or cracked a blade yet. I'd like to share it with you and other knife mechanics, but it doesn't translate very well by description. Really need to show by pictures or video.
@@DeanGundry Make a video and show me!!! I love learning new things!!
That knife would have been beautiful with the pen blade deleted. You do fine work brother.
A small nail with the same size head as the Swindon pin could work.
@@wizardofahhhs759 I would have to make a head on the other end of it too, but that might work!
I was thinking the same 😊
You might look at a chain saw chain rivet spinner for making this type of fastener.
@@kknows3512 Thank you, I had not heard of those. I will look into it now!
I do enjoy your videos and look forward to them. Glad to see this one because you always teach me something new.
@@NGMountains I learned new things on this one!
To think of all the knife scales i have thrown away.. the next armadillo will not be complete ant food next time.
Excellent video i have everything except for a belt sander &" confidence" start with cheap China first i guess.
@@Poorboychickencoop for me, I have to start cheap! A $50 Harbor Freight sander works well enough. But at first I began with a 4x36" Craftsman belt sander that belongs to my Dad. It was made for sanding wood, but it worked okay. You can find good US-made tools cheap, if you take your time and look around. The confidence comes from doing a lot of knives. Start with cheap "beater" knives, and broken imports.
Love the show brother and hello from Northern Pennsylvania. Keep the videos coming man. They’re great. And do you fix other knives four people I have a 72 case xx rigging knife that needs a marlin spike put on it. The knife is beautiful. The bone is awesome on it. @@JasonDoan-h6e I do work on knives for other people, but I do not have a marlin spike for a Case. I think I have one for a Schrade, and one Camillus Rigging knife for parts, but not a Case. If I can come across one I will check back with you.
@ thank you for responding back to me my friend. And hello again from Northern Pennsylvania. From what I’ve seen and heard Case xx and Kabar and the buck rigging knifes wayback when were subcontracted to Camillia‘s to make the knives for them and then they put their stamps on the blade. So I’m thinking the Marlin spikes should all be interchangeable. I justed like to get the knife fixed and I think it would make a really cool video. You just don’t see a lot about the marlinspike knives. thank you for your time my brother and you have a great weekend.
Love the show brother and hello from Northern Pennsylvania. Keep the videos coming man. They’re great.
@@JasonDoan-h6e Thank you for watching!
I'm getting ready to put new scales on an old case slimline..this will be my first ever..do I save the old brass pins? And do they all the way thru the knife?
@@brianwalter7387 I have not had good results from trying to reuse old pins. If you are not taking the knife apart, but plan on putting on handles similar to the way I did in this video, you will need 1/16" and 3/32" brass rods. They are available at Hobby Lobby. The handle pins just go through the scales and the handle liners. The pivot pin (the larger one) goes all of the way through the knife.
@southernknifehobbyist ok, thank u, my goal is to learn how to restore old case pocket knives, I've built knives with files and antlers, etc..this is gonna be my first learning this hobby..thank u so much..
