Easy answer. it starts in early schools and most public school districts have girls soccer where it’s not pay to play and good one get recruited by Universities immediately. On the other hand men’s soccer is pay to play and a lot of male talent can’t afford pay to play. Don’t want to say it but most players in NFL, NBA came from less fortunate backgrounds from hardship that’s why we create monsters in those sports. If the same idea was applied to men’s soccer we would have had a World Cup by now!

For the average level of the players, this looks pretty right but I would be really surprised if an MLS teamcould avoid relegation in Championship or any other top second division in Europe due to the roster configuration of the MLS teams. Due to the salary cap, most MLS teams have a very unbalanced roster. They tend to have good attacking players but really bad defenssive players. MLS defenses would be demolished even in some third division leagues around Europe.

The reason why there was a "debate" was because Real Madrid being the most popular and historically successful club in the world got demolished for years by Messi.
