Being Autistic, power imbalances are genuinely just confusing to me. It's one of the main reasons I refuse to directly interact with minors, because while I'd never intentionally hurt or take advantage of someone, I know putting myself in such a situation with such a vast imbalance of power just generally would be putting someone at risk. Power imbalances just suck in general, though. If only because I don't even have to intentionally leverage them against someone to hurt them...hell, I don't even have to *use* whatever power I may have at all to hurt them. Maybe they just feel forced into doing something because of it, even though I'd have been the first one to hit the brakes if I'd known. Intentions matter...just not in the moment. I feel like this is just worse online since everyone has some degree of secrecy.

on the first one, I agree partially, but it can be important to share. I'm pretty sure I have my autism/ADHD diagnosis in my bio here, and if I don't I need to add it. it's something that's relevant. sharing that you overall 'have mental illness' is ok too, but I do have a problem with people saying specific triggers and illnesses unless it's relevant because that can be used in a really predatory way. one way it's reasonable is with Kylee Rackam and Delta. they share their BPD and NPD diagnoses because it's relevant to their content, and it helps people understand what their channels are about if they're new, as with system content creators.

I don't sell arts or even publicly do art (if you say cutting out boring sections from Minecraft gameplay and then uploading the non-boring parts to RUclips is not art, because I don't consider it to be), but I feel a lot of what you say here can be taken as general life advice. You're telling it from the perspective of an artist and to the artists, but the advice is pretty generally applicable.

i personally share two conditions i have in my strawpage (linked to my Discord), but i feel like it is important to the context that i might react in a way the other person doesnt like/insecurity about some stuff it really depends on the context, but having a whole list of things you dont like will lead to you being targetted

Honestly, I’m the kind of person who follows someone for one thing, and then if they say something bad that isn’t consistent, then I just ignore that one video, it’s like filtering out swear words, you know some bit is bad, but the person in general isn’t using the words to hate on people, they just have it embedded in their culture and can’t help it or don’t realize.

As someone who's in the online art community, and starting off in the graffiti community, I think art style theft is only a thing when it comes to graffiti, and even then it's iffy.

Never ever share your specific age, just be very VERY clear and honest about if you are a minor or not so there’s no excuses to be made for people who act inappropriately toward you Establish firm boundaries if people cross lines, and block people who are too comfortable with you If you want to give a general warning about certain mental illnesses do not make a list, just specify which disorder may affect your behavior most to be short and concise. DO NOT list your triggers, it can and likely will be used against you later Do not overshare about your trauma publicly. Venting for community support is super helpful, but please know how much is too much and make sure you’re only getting really into it with people you know and trust Be safe ❤

For the first point: Artists shouldn't say they are very much against Ai (beyond just giving a stance) because then trolls can easily set them off with how Ai will solve the gatekeeping in the artist community ;). DNI: Artists Against Ai blocking & Banning people just because. ( 7:38 ) Ties in with point #1. Go ahead & block the prompters so in turn they don't have to deal with Artist-complainers either, right? :). Don't forget, social media accounts are free to create so even if a main account is blocked, they can still have spy accounts.

4:47 as someone who regularly trades OCs off for others online, I find people who do this quite snobbish and not worth my time. People who also get really weird about "permissions" too because trading a character off also means giving up ownership lmao TL;DR amino and toyhouse is weird and while i actively search for more OCs to adopt, most traders I've seen online are a waste of time for the reasons stated lol

i think having adult friends in general (EVEN IRL) can be beneficial. so many kid-adult friendships are shunned because "what if the adult is a predator", etc. etc.. but again, how are you gonna know if it's a predator or not? by having many examples of adults, of course! you will know when one starts acting strange and not like others, even if it's your own family, and you also have trusted adults to talk to about it. sure, minors should always be careful nonetheless, but they shouldn't rely on people only their age imo. people of all ages view the world differently and can benefit from eachother by sharing their experiences, i (now 16) probably would be in a much worse place if my older friends didn't help me out in life :] i'd rather ask someone with real experience on some matters to come later in life than just some guy my age just saying, it depends on what kind of adults you're friends with, not all of them are creeps. (sadly, quite a lot are :[ )

(I haven’t finished the video, I may edit this after) Personally, I do have a public blacklist- but it’s only on my TOS and only has two people, that are also blocked already as far as I can go. I personally was having problems with them, but it was behavior that was extended to others and just general not okay practices period. I listed reasons, showed other people who have them on their blacklists, and left it at that. I haven’t personally run into any problems, but that could change any minute with the hell that is the Internet. Just to clarify, I’m over the age of 18, so I do what I feel is best and take other opinions into account, but this was my decision and I feel better with it now.

Agree with a lot of these! 10:04 I feel the wording at least at one point should be different. Having people who do come back and recommission isn't creepy. Often people like sticking to reliable artists who they *know* won't scam them and will make something they like. Some people don't even pay attention to age. I feel like yeah, not friends, but if its purely business and they come back to commission you frequently, thats not a red flag *unless* they also try to become friends knowing you are much younger. I had one client of mine commission me about 5~ ish times before I closed my coms for a little while. They were very respectful and only wanted to pay me to draw. Thats perfectly fine and normal. I often desire to commission artists a lot, though be it I'm poor. But there is many adult and minor artists I'd love to frequently commission because of how pretty their art is. Though generally speaking, yeah try to keep ages similar with friends, my oldest friend is 21 but even then its cuz we play a game together and like.. we are good at the game, its mutual respect and we vibe al ot. He has never been creepy and mostly hangs around other adults. Even then he will only befriend people who are at least 16 cuz any younger makes him uncomfy (which is understandable)

I think kids are a lot smarter than most people give them credit for. There was this one cute little comic I saw once where this trans person is hanging out with kids, and one kid goes "I thought you were a girl?" and the trans person says "I thought I was, but I'm a boy now." The kids thought nothing of it, said "oh, cool" and went back to what they were doing. Also, iirc, practically a whole war broke out over one line in Bluey, where one kid mentions his moms. It's one line, and the smallest thing ever, but some people were furious about it. Kind of absurd

Artists looking to take commisisons or get started: Set up your rules I highly recommend including that comms are paid upfront and part(at least) is non refundable once work has been put in by you. This will help ward off (some) scammers/people there to fleece you for pennies on the hour Take care out there <3

wow. you say your age, while being underage, in a video about internet safety. i don't even. i wish the internet was 10 years back and people actually dident upload personal info online. with sites like 4chan, where everyone was anonymous being a popular social media side. or at least, never having the same name on social media accounts, and basicly no connections batween em. sure, i got irl vids on my account from forever ago, but every other account i have is completely separate and not mentioned anywhere else. only way for there to be a connection is if both accounts are in a data leak and there is a shared email (although i have multiple emails,like one for serious irl business stuff and entered for secure things, and other a alt account to make my game accounts on and put in less secure sites)

Oh my starrrss. What you said about pop designers was so true! Back on my first year of selling designs on Amino, it was so demotivating to see how pop designers could put something together in half the time I would and sell so fast! It legitimately made me stop making adopts for a while before I started again on DeviantArt. It’s not a perfect platform either for sure, but it was much easier for me to find an audience that weren’t just waiting for the next pop designer to post lol While I’m not as upset about it anymore heh, this phenomenon combined with use of “lq” and “hq” terms and Amino’s broken currency that I can’t even get into 😭 it ruined a fun hobby for me at the time.

A couple months ago a 13 year old artist DM me with a greeting and if we want to be moots. I did find it weird for them messaging me as a 19 year old, but also finding out we’re both Chinese-Malaysia born and raised in Ireland. And we talked about our education system here a little and I assured them that they could do well with their exams. After that we didn’t really chat but still follow each other because they like my art and I like their art. I have no interest in having a close friendship with and well honestly I’m generally not a social person

I make comissions and videos, and that makes things more complicated, since I need to balance the time I post on social medias and the comissions I receive. Usually, I make a list of all the comissions I have to do and say to my clients they had to wait a little depending when they ask for the comissions. I think this really works, atleast for me. Good video, btw! ❤

I've only ever seen blacklists on discord and when I've seen them, they've meant the STUFF you can't SAY or need to CENSOR and what channels you need to keep them in

Yeah this exactly, the thing I whined about all the time is the lack of community on these anti-social media sites, and how nobody wants to bring back a sense of community in their sites, even art sites like sheezy. I miss when popular websites had the ability to make group chats, now nothing has that because of the mentality that if people want to be social they’ll go to discord.

DNI lists/ saying 'no xyz kind of people' actually does work for me personally. i have anti-zoophile/anti-feral nsfw stuff on my profiles and if i go onto clearsky and check rn, loads of those sort of ppl do the work for you and block you or add you to anti-zoo block lists which is real nice of them honestly. like they just call themselves out and it means i never have to see them on my feed its very cool

as i get older i realize how many people who follow me are just 13-14 and that's the only people that actually decide to interact or join servers. just the age gap and different stages of development often just makes me not want to interact with them much in the first place- theyre nice for a parasocial relationship, but definitely not more than that. it makes me wonder what i was thinking making friends with 17-18 year olds when i was 13-14 HSVSH

This is a bit off topic, but how do i reject an art trade? I often post questions like "does anyone wanna art trade?" and sometimes people who want to trade dont have any art posted. The issue I have is when I ask them for some examples and their art is not at a level i want to accept. I dont wanna seem rude because its not like you can just randomly improve even if youre a beginner

I remember talking to this person in the general channel of a discord server, and I thought that they were cool to talk to, so I friended them, but very quickly, they used me as a crutch and told me that they had depression and that they were suicidal, I even remember them randomly sending me a Pic of them sending a self harm image with blood all over there hand. It was disgusting.
