Avoid any Ford with a wet timing belt, Ford for some reason believed placing a timing belt inside the engine and in contact with hot engine oil would be more economical and reliable than one with the belt on the outside of the engine where it is also easier and cheaper to change. Result. Timing belts shedding teeth and fabric which then blocks the oil pick up and starves the engine bearings of lubrication. Blam. Dead and seize engine. Idiots.

Only Fiat I owned was my first ever banger after passing test way back. It was a Panda off my uncle who ran a farm. It was the 4x4 model too. Deckchairs for seats & basic as hell. Had it 3 years & it never let me down to be fair! Althipo I wouldn't take it anywhere which required a motorway as it was pretty loud & awful at high speed. Refinement wasn't its thing! It had been used as a farmyard workhorse & I could never get rid of the fresh fragrance of horse manure. Lol

Still my most favorite car of all time. As a 32 year old with a young boy, I can't justify buying one yet. Gotta buy a house first ($2 million Canadian maple syrups on average over here in Vancouver), and make at least $600,000/year to make it make sense. Gonna be a while yet. But hey, maybe I will find a deal on a 2017 Supersports for $69,000 CAD in 2042

I'm not sure the automatic will be more difficult to fix. It's a very common 6hp box any rebuild shop can service. The manual on the other hand is a bespoke, low-volume Italian affair. Good luck finding spare parts for it ten or fifteen years from now.

Toyota do use citroen engines they are teamed up with Peugeot citroen.. just look at their vans 😂😂

my family has had many Fords. ALL of them have had problems. Three with serious transmission pobs (Focus), one had missing parts in the rear gate door when brand new, one had so many problems Ford bought it back (2015 Cmax). Never again!! I've tried to go American; now Toyota and Kia. No more problems.

Interesting video, but the thing you EV guys don't seem to get is that you're NOT saving anything in terms of emissions. If China are going to be producing most of these cars, which seems to be the case, and they're building more coal fired power stations to run it all, you're making the situation worse, not better. I don't think the vast amount of earth that has to be moved to mine the lithium etc. has been properly taken into account, the vast amount that is going to be needed, all the extra electricity that is going to have to be generated and so on, overall history is going to show that you're very likely to have made the environmental situation worse, not better. A simple example is they have just closed the last UK steelworks, which ran mostly off nuclear powered electricity. That steel will now be made in countries where they're using coal powered stations, so while the local air situation might improve very, very slightly, you have ADDED to the overall emissions issue by moving the problem elsewhere. You can't do that and expect it to work when it's a global problem. Looking at the bigger picture, it seems to me that EVs are a step backwards, not forwards.

You get ripped off in the UK with your new EV prices and fast charging costs. In Australia the base Model Y is 30K pounds on the road. The MG4 is currently 16K pounds on the road. Fast charging is 30-40p per KwH and 40% of homes have rooftop solar so charging for free is possible during the day. For most people, EVs are a no-brainer and they're only going to get better and cheaper.

Personal transport is Personal transport. An EV provides that. Many non tesla brands will give the driver very similar driving experiences as their ice models. Tesla are a single brand manufacturer and only offer a Tesla experience, which is not for everyone including ev converts. We are many years away from there being no ice vehicles. Like all new directions, it will take a long time. Only worry about it when you have to.

I've had an ioniq 5 for two years, had a Kona EV before. Best car I've ever had. I don't think I can go back. As long as you have off street parking and can charge at home.. Its a no brainer.

When Jeep came to Australia in the mid 90's,owned by Mercedes, they had a habit of spontaneously bursting into flames.Also notorious for not honouring their warranties.

Ive got a hybrid ioniq about to order a new car today btw, and ive never gor on with the one pedel (or level 3 regen), after 3 years i still cant judge when to let off the accelerator, as as a driving fan, im programed to let of and break when i want, but im forever letign iff to early. So i have regen off, and it allows you to coast, govign you a proper driving feel. Im going to try a cupra born today, that is ment to be a good ev drivers car.

I've always felt that simpler is better. I have a 20 year old car that still runs like a watch...... BUT the transmission had an electronic fail, and it took me 2 months to find someone who would attempt to fix it. Cross your fingers, it's still not mechanically worn out.

Many manufacturers have that one specific bad product but Ford's wet belt EcoBooms take the cake. DoA on paper, disaster in action.

My Toyota is bulletproof to date at 102,000km. Kia Pro_Cee'd before that and the only issue in 320,000km was a fill of bad quality diesel clogging up the fuel filter. A Focus (Mk2, so not shite) before that with only an alternator and coil pack replaced in 410,000km. I genuinely don't get the appeal of an Opel , Nissan, VW, etc, when the same money gets you a good car.

Tesla is an extreme example of a car without buttons. Try a Hyundai or Kia, they make EVs with buttons and knobs. It's also about air pollution which kills 40k a year in the UK.

4:37 - become serious: this is about EVs and not how to use a touch screen or not cause all the ICE have the same issue sooner or later that cost savings will remove and ban the switches. You willl have to save a fortune to get cars with buttons cause those will become a luxury due to the higher costs for cabling, connectors, warranty you have to pay. Get a luxury 100.000 GBP car and then you will get switches again. Fact is: Tesla model y has become the number 1 in the post GOLF era. And for a good reason cause a how many year old construction with a lot of weaknesses is still the best selling car. Time to move ahead cause you will dy when you will see the repair prices for ice cars once spare parts are becoming rarer and also the facilities to repair ice engines. Come to central europe or norway and watch the ICE shops disappear cause guess what: once those move ahead and start working on EV they realize how dirty the work is on all the ICE cars and their brakes while EVs are a lot cleaner. They simply are leaving the ICE market and you will have to pay the price for the last man owning an EV. Visit Norway and talk to ICE owners.

If you're able, the solution is to have 2 cars. For my white goods, boring washing machine car I have a hybrid Outlander which with only a 20 mile EV range has actually done 1/3 of its 75,000 miles on electric. I have a Caterham Seven for a fun driving experience.

Not every EV is a Tesla. I won't buy a Tesla because of the "everything on one screen" issue, but there are plenty of EVs out there that don't have that approach.

China is in fact investing massively in clean energy production and EV manufacture. The USA has to use massive trade tariffs to stop Chinese EVs flooding the US market with the cheap small EVs we are asking for.

Changing all the World's cars to EV only addresses 1 - 2% of Carbon emissions not 6% however more than half the World can't change to EV''s (on current EV technology) for many many decades to come. The wars/conflicts that have started in the World in the last 3 years have generated way more carbon than can be saved from moving to EV's and 3 years ago there was no thought about how much carbon might be generated from new conflicts that hadn't yet started. Call me when the World's military switches to EV's because it aint gonna happen.

Let me get this straight......so the chap bought the Tesla because of the tax break and without the tax break he probably wouldn't have bought a new car because of the depreciation......and when asked what he likes about the Tesla he says "it's a new car" as one of his likes.......fast forward a couple of years from now and it's no longer a "new car" but it is still a soulless drive..........in X years time he has to start considering his next car but there won't be tax breaks so he will presumably either choose to keep going with this Tesla or buy something else second hand but presumably he will stick with EV so the "high point" of his EV experience will be this "new" Tesla and everything there after will be a lesser driving experience.......or he has to spend lots more money.

Good to see you back and making films about cars rather than some of the stuff that you got side-tracked with. I thought some of your early car videos were some of the best actual car reviews available. Then things went weird for a while. I can't stand EVs, but this was something I was able to watch and appreciate the discussion on.

I bought an EV because I don't do long journeys anymore and charging at home off peak saves me a fortune.

Model Y - barely in the top 10 'best selling' cars now. Obviously this was bought as a company car too 'for the tax benefits'. When 8/10 EV's are bought by fleets/companies, you know why they're doing it - for one reason only, the tax breaks. Personally, Tesla's are FUGLY *and* expensive, with depreciation to make your eyes water. If I see just one more 'white' Tesla I will scream. I do not want an ipad on wheels either. Tesla interiors are bland in the extreme because they removed every single button to chip away at costs. The wrong points were made a number of times about EV's being driven by 'market forces'. They're not, they're being pushed by government legislation. The masses never asked for electric cars, but they're being forced on them. When the first combustion cars appeared, they replace horse'n' cart very quickly because they were better in every way, and the market spoke. EV's were around before ICE, but lost because they were worse in almost every way, and that stands true today.

People are too bother about nothing. EV, ICE, Hydrogen, all of them are welcome, specially if they do not pollute. Manual cars are fun in the UK’s twists countryside roads but horrible in stop and go traffic. EV are really easy in traffic. Some people like mechanical cars some people like computers on wheels.

So what about all the jobs that will be lost when the ICE industry disappears . Allegedly EV"s don't need much maintenance .
