    I had given thought to and lusted after a Continental a few times. Thanks so much for bringing me down to earth, I'll stick with my '16, 750i, a car that someone paid £95k for, that, after a 75% drop, has just about ended it's major depreciation. After 2 years it's not given me any bother, despite having the running gear of a Rolls Royce, and my local mechanic is much easier to pay than the main BMW dealer. Great vid's cheers.

      Oops, spoke too soon. At 25500 miles the electric steering rack has gone....!!
      £2500 from the main dealer..!!!
      Luckily, found one from an 18', 13k miles car for under £400. I'm out of the country right now, but, hopefully, all sorted soon 🙏 👍

    I’ve always wanted one but now they’re within reach (kind of) I’ve gone off them completely. Interesting video by the way, it’s usually me spending fortunes trying to fix things so makes a change to see somebody else doing it

      I'm happy to share in the pain Matt. That said I've spent fortunes before, but this gave me same feeling as the top of a rollercoaster, just before you drop. It's not for me. Even the £3k hit feels like a win. Back to less suicidal purchases for me!

    I liked your presentation a lot and i agree that bentleys can get very expensive in maintenance/repair. I had to experience it myself. Here are my personal rulez for a Bentley buy:
    1. Dont buy the cheapest, buy the best one you can afford.
    2. If you cant buy it twice, you cant afford it.
    3. Calculation of repair costs of an bentley compared to a normal car: Double the costs and mulitply it by ten.
    (e.g. part costs: fender 3K, Turbo 5k a piece, bumper 3k or more, two batteries 800, tyre sensors 500€ a set without labour. Labour at bentley is 190€/hour in germany and so on)
    The situation may vary if you are a car mechanic and you can do a lot of work yourself.
    I deliberately neglected the cost of insurance, gas and taxes because you should know it already considering buying a car like a bentley.

      Engine out necessity for the starter ist correct. There are different other reasons for an engine out job too. E.g. rotten hoses on the vaccum system (not climate but low pressure system) Common problem on Bentley Continentals and GTs till manufacturing year 07. The engine is so big that you have no room to work properly, eg. at the fan system in the front. Of course thats a problem lots of 10 or 12 Zylinder cars have.

    I bought a 2005 nearly 4 years ago with 24000 on the clock genuine mileage. Very pleased with it. Got a good local garage looks after mine.
    To save taking the engine out to replace the oxygen sensor, they cut and welded sockets and spanners and did it from underneath! Saved me a fortune. They replaced both rear parking brake motors and brake pads for just over £400 which isn't bad. You either love them or hate them. Don't let these videos put you off buying one. Just because this guy bought one cheap which he knew needed TLC and he doesn't like the car anyway, they're not all like that! If you can afford the super unleaded petrol and get only 12 to 28 miles per gallon, then get one and enjoy it! Mine is a head turner when I drive it anywhere.

    • @CarTrouble
      @CarTrouble  4 года назад +6

      Hi David, thanks for the comment. It's only my own opinion and I'm sure there are plenty of folks that disagree - that's the benefits of living in a democracy. Its always fun to debate cars as so many people have differing opinions. Also, it sounds like you found a great garage, be sure to look after them! I have no doubt that your Bentley with only 24k miles will be a minter, but I have a feeling it will have cost a bit more than the 14750 I paid for mine. I was just trying to show what you get for that price bracket, as many folks are now being tempted by the cheapest ones. Best of luck and thanks for watching. Fear not, I'll be leaving the Bentley brand alone in videos now. 🙂

    • @ARCTCFOXMAN
      @ARCTCFOXMAN 4 года назад +1

      I think he bought a dog deliberately to make the videos more amusing.. in which case it worked 🤣. You might find now your car is over 10 years old it's much cheaper than you think in a main dealer, they have menu prices for "Classics ". Not sure if it has to be in the system from new though. I get notes to upgrade things like the security system. So I got new 2018 ( or whatever year it was, can't remember) latest spec locking and security upgrade and two new keys for £700. Just an example. Enjoy your car.. PS, I only use mine for long trips and keep an octane booster in the boot. One small bottle per tank full in case you can't find high octane fuel.

      @davidm9937 4 года назад +1

      @@ARCTCFOXMAN Yes I agree with you there about buying a dog! Put a few people off unfortunately. They are a great car to drive. My local garage that does the MOT absolutely loves it and always comment what a beautiful car it is and well looked after.

      Hi, I appreciate your comments and you're debate is always truly welcome here. But I think you might be overthinking the video a little. The social experiment premise is that now Bentleys are starting to become very cheap, is it a good idea to buy a cheap one?The answer is no - as you say, you need to spend a lot more and buy a decent one, and don't be tempted by the honey trap. It was just an experiment and a bit of fun - I wasn't buying my dream car or hoping to get £100ks worth for £15k. I know that won't happen. I'm happy you enjoyed some of the video, and as i said, you're opinions and debate are always welcome! And you also make a good point about the watchability, it probably wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting if I bought a pristine Bentley for £40k and drove around lamenting its amazingness. There's enough of that on youtube already...Many thanks for watching.👍😃

    • @CarTrouble
      @CarTrouble  4 года назад

      Hi David, it wasn't my intention to put anyone off for the sake of it. There are folks like you that are having a great experience with a Bentley, but there are more who are tempted by a cheap one, and need to be armed with the knowledge that if they do buy one, there could be some massive bills. If I've deterred anyone from buying a 'dog' unwititngly and being left with crushing bills, then surely that's a good thing? Anyone truly dedicated, financially capable and armed with the facts can proceed and enjoy. Thanks for watching and engaging with the debate.. 👍😃

    Aircon specialists have a really easy way to find leaks. Add dye to system, run the A/C then look for leakage with the help of a fluorescent light. It's cheap and fast. Go on, do it and make a video about it!

      Pressure test with nitrogen, and soapy bubbles. If it’s lost it’s gas, the LP switch will be open, and it won’t pull in the compressor clutch. Fix the leak and refill, it should go!

    On the aircon you may find it's an actuator. My aircon packed in while I was in Marbella in August! I've had her from new and as the warranty was just out I thought I'd drop it in to Salamanca Bentley and they'd do it as a goodwill g ....nah. Luckily however after 4 days in the shop they phoned to say a couple of actuators had gone and they also found a couple associated with the chat between roof being up and down were intermittently faulty ( mines a GTC) so save messing about I just got them to change all of them. If you drop yours into a specialist with the correct diagnostics you might be lucky. 👍

    I came accross your channel because I am looking for 2008/2009 DB9 (one of your other videos). I currently have a 2013 XKR and .... a 2006 Bentley Continental GT...in black, Mulliner Spec. How about that. Now, I gave this video a thumbs up because a lot of what you said was true and accurate. However, you purchased a bargain basement abused trade-in. I have owned my GT for 3 1/2 years and I have had to have both front air struts replaced - £1300 each using Arnott struts and an independant specialist. So, I think the car is great and hasn't been a problem. Granted the previous owner has to have the engine dropped to replace some vacuum pipes, just over £5000 at the Bentley dealer. Long story short, choose the right car that has been well maintained, you bought an abused trade-in at rock bottom price, so it is wrong to judge all by one abused car
