Bikepacking Rogue Panda Frame Bag Review
Hi Dean, thanks for your fork bag description. Although I like the way they look and the name recognition, I definitalty don't think the bags are inexpensive. A set of cages and bags is $142. I opted for a set from Amazon basics for 40 Euros which includes two bags and cages. I've only used them on one bikepacking trip (10 days) through the Czech Republic and they performed well. The bags are a little taller and narrower but also water proof with a 4.5 liter volume each. The verdict is still out since I only used them once so far. Also, I tend to stuff dirty clothes in one side and my rain coat, pillow and other soft items in the other. This utilizes all the space of the bags and helps maintain their form while riding. Cheers, RK from Germany
Hello. Thanks for watching. I am sorry but i have to disagree with you. Of course comparing them to Amazon prices they are going to be more expensive. But compared to other top brands such as Tailfin and Old Man Mountain they are much more affordable by a long shot. As for Amazon gear. Sure every once in awhile you come across decent stuff. But I have toured with enough people who have tried to save money by going this route only to see them fail. I would rather buy gear that lasts for years not months. Over 5 years with these bags and by the looks of things I'll get another 5 out of them. Thanks for the comment. All the best.
@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures Sure, XTR brakes are also a basement bargain if you compare them to Hope, Sram Maven or Trickstuff. I personally run XT. I tend to apply the law of diminishing returns when it comes to items that I don’t use every day. As long as the bags stay waterproof, I’d rather invest the savings in something like an expensive set of wheels.
Nobo on the GDMBR is a good option for an earlier start time if you have any flexibility with your schedule. Good luck
Thanks for watching. While that is true, I am not sure if I am going to stop riding when I am done the GDMBR. So I may just keep heading south when I get to the Mexican border. Cheers
How would those work on a carbon frame? Is your 1120 carbon fiber?
@@tombiggi1024 they work great. My forks are carbon fiber. Cheers
Do your forks have built in mounting nuts?
@tombiggi1024 yes they do.
Unfortunately neither of my carbon bikes have those.
I managed to pick a 1120, I’ve been thinking of one for 2 years, watching your adventures! Looking forward to backpacking with it soon!
Hello. The 1120 is a great adventure bike! I am sure you will love it. Cheers
Great information, I would think you could put the solo stove in the solo pot and your canister should fit just fine in your jet boil, I feel like it might distribute your weight a little bit better and allow you to have more room for other items
Hello. Thanks for watching. Unfortunately that is not possible as the burner for the stove detaches and goes in the Jetboil pot. Cheers
Are the bags water proof?
Great review. Happy New Year to you
Thanks for watching! Happy New Year!!
Looking forward to your 2025 adventures, Happy New Year !
Happy new year!
Great information always, even in this video!!! Thank you so very much for the shout out and our Cross-Canada Tour! Very kind! We appreciate it so very much! Happy New Year!!!
Happy New year!!!
Another great video! Thanks Dean!
Awesome, thanks you for the great video Dean!
Thanks Jeremy! Happy New Year!
Seasonal Greetings and best wishes for 2025. Jay
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
I continue to be so very proud of you my precious nephew and all that you have accomplished. Keep on keeping on. 💕💕
Thanks Aunt Maureen!!❤
Thanks for sharing Dean! I'm too 55 y.o. and have gravitated towards BPing as a means of gaining improved mental health. I too have a Trek 1120 XT edition (upgraded) and in the process of planning to do about 1/3 of the GDMBR starting in late June - starting in Banf and ending in Rawlings Wy. Then I'll pick up with the rest of it and finish in 2026. That's my plan at least. Hope to connect with you some day on the rail. Take care. All the best in 2025 and good luck with everything.
The GDMBR will be amazing!! I hope it all works out for you! I can't wait to get started. All the best in the New Year!
To summarize: Other than high price and weight, it is a good bag, if you have a compatible rack and you need easy on and off. MIK attachment is not secure. It can easily be removed without the key.
@mattyrider2809 thanks for summarizing my video...
Coming from the same town I have watched another and yourself grow! Congrats on the sponsorships and best of luck to ya. looking forward for your trip in June. Next year is when I get more consistent and gain a bigger following. Have a great holiday season.
Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year!!
Right on! Thanks for the last video before the end of the year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year guys!! Here's to awesome adventures in 2025!!
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures ya, you too. Looking forward to your great divide trip in 2025!
Nice end of year vid Dean! I’m sure 2025 will work out for you…looking forward to seeing your GDMBR video! Merry Christmas a d Happy New Year brother!
Thanks Brother! Happy Holidays!!
Nice, I got a feeling 2025 will be an epic year. Just curious how you found bike touring in the first place?
Hello Brian. I have been riding bikes my whole life really. Working in bike shops I also new many clients who toured. I always had a interest in touring, in fact when I was 15 me and my best friend at the time had dreams about riding acoss Canada! But in the end what really sparked my interest was seeing videos on RUclips. Happy Holiday's!!
Cool video dean
Thanks Mick. Merry Christmas mate.
nice video! Which model do you use for your rear Rack? I'm looking for a new one because I already had to have the original trek 1120 welded twice and it doesn't support enough weight for my liking.
Hello Greg. I use the Bontrager BackRack Deluxe MIK. It's a great rack that I have well over 30,000 kms on it. Easily carries 50 pounds and I have definitely had well over 50 at various times. Thanks for watching. Here is a video about the rack. ruclips.net/video/4SpGJHFLCyk/видео.html
@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures thanks mate ! :-)
Hi Dean! New sub on your channel. I also have an 1120 which I've built up as an XT and absolutely love it! Wondering if you're running 2.6 tires on your Line Pros? Also, I'm planning to do 1/2 of the GDMBR this summer as well staring in late June. I'd be curious what your start date is. Maybe we can meet up. Thanks for the info! All the best and happy holidays!
Hello. Thanks for the sub! Yes I am running 2.6 Vittoria Mezcal's. I highly recommend the combo. Here is a video I made. Cheers ruclips.net/video/W6vwybCkIkc/видео.html
Curious when you're planning to ride the GDMBR? Summer 2025?
Hello. I am planning on starting the GDMBR the first week of August. I can't wait! Cheers
Just found this video AFTER having ordered a set of these bags for my own bike.. Really nice to see that I won´t have to worry about the quality of them. :) Cheers from Denmark
Hello. Thanks for watching! You will be very happy with your purchase. Very good customer service as well. Cheers
@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures Hi again.. Sofar, I am VERY pleased with the bags, and I have also got hold of the 4l toptube-bag from Ortlieb.. I don´t know if you have tried that one, but first impressions are great, I think. :D
@@gozone yes I have that 4L frame bag, which is in the same family. Great bags and incredibly waterproof. Cheers
Did you tear your major neck muscle in those accidents? If you ever want to talk to a knowledgeable man, let me know.
Hello. I'm not really sure what's going on with my neck. They keep telling me it's arthritis but I believe it's something else. What test did they do for you? My doctor's seem to be going through the motions. Cheers
@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures you said you went through a car windshield and I notice your neck in your videos are kinda lop sided. I have severe neck trauma that ripped my sternocleidomastoid muscle which is the largest neck muscle and is a permanent injury. Only your MRI would tell.
a sternocleidomastoid muscle tear causes lop sided head positions, just something to think about
@@BAHDK I am definitely going to look into this. Thanks for reaching out. I will keep you informed. Cheers
@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures not to worry about what I said but to consider; considering the off kilter head position, if its normal? Could be just me.
I’m in the same boat. I just started a channel called Keta Cares as a way of my opening up about my PTSD. You are not alone in life. Keep strong!
Thanks! Hope your doing better today.Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New years!!❤😂🎉
Hello Greg. Wow this is incredibly kind of you and very much appreciated! I am taking it one day at a time and have been doing better recently. Thanks again for your generosity. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well!🎉🎊
Great info, I had rotator and ulnar nerve surgery both sides.. definite numb left hand elbow 10 miles in.. my bike group suggested a Jones. Looks good. Thanks for the review
Wow.... Sorry for your predicament. Devastating. Is there an update soon ?? 😊😊
Hello. Thanks for taking the time to watch this. I have done updates on many of my videos but I realize many people may not watch these videos. This video was awhile ago and I am happy to say I am doing better. Living a healthy natural life is the first step and cycling is my number one therapy. I will continue to learn how to manage the CTE related issues as time goes by. Cheers
Mens club Lol
Thank you so much for uploading and reviewing a Pinion bike! I have been looking at Pinion bikes as well. I know the cassette derailleur system has been proven but given it's complexity and my lack of technical skills I want something that won't break down on my when I start bikepacking. I was looking at the Viral Wanderer, it's a hell of an expensive bicycle but I think it will last me the rest of my life given it's Pinion gearbox and titanium frame. If I went with a cassette derailleur system I would go with a Bridge Bikeworks Surveyor.
I have had nothing but issues since I purchased my GoPro Hero 9 Black. I purchased it when it was first released and it has overheated, failed to record, started/stopped recording on it's own, and more. It was one of the worst purchases I've made in the past couple of years. I have literally lost what would have been incredible video footage due to my GoPro failing. In comparison, my decade old Blackberry Passport still works in every sense except for an outdated operating system. My GoPro Hero 9 Black is the first and last GoPro I will ever own. GoPro is the equivalent of a CCM bicycle.
Never had any issues with any of my gopro's. Making sure the firmware is updated is important. If you haven"t done that then that might be your issue. I have had 8 gopro's and will be using them for the foreseeable future. I will be getting the Hero 13 in the new year. Thanks for watching.
Get well soon my friend!
Great to see that you have a fantastic time in probably the most underrated province in Canada! I have been to that exact beach just a weeks before there was a horrible storm that destroyed a lot of the surrounding environment back in 2021. Prince Edward Island is a place that I could see myself living in the future. Yes, truly friendly people and a stunning landscape. That is a really cool truck in the end of the video, and 40km is still an awesome feat. We're the same age and I'd be happy if I can get 20km out of me!
Yes I was living in Pictou during the Hurricane that did the damage. It was actually in 2022 not 2021, not that that matters. PEI is a great place, I can't wait to go back! Cheers
I am off work due to an injury, and again I am binge watching your channel. Thanks for taking us on this wonderful adventure!
Thanks for binging!!
G,Day Dean enjoyed that video mate
Thanks Mick!!
What's the weight limit on the frame set....looking for more mounting points then my bridge club.
Hello. The recommended weight limit is 300 pounds. As far as more mounting options, the Bridge Club and the 1120 have pretty much the same mounting points. And if you actually factor in the Surly fork the Bridge Club may have . Just wanted to point that out. Cheers
How are the mezcal tires on tarmac.... I have gravelking sk+ 27.5x2.1 tires that are tubeless but looking for a wide tire for my surly BC for road touring, which can goto 2.6 to 2.8" wide tires.
They are pretty good on tarmac. They have a directional tread pattern so they roll pretty good on pavement for a trail tire. I have ridden about 20,000+ kms using Mezcal's and I love them.
Excellent summary. While two-in-one lube/degreasers are not great at *either* job, 🤨 I do use them on tour. One less bottle to carry! 😅
Thanks Victor. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple. Cheers
Thanks for all the great advice Dean! To add to the chain maintenance thing…when you have a chain replaced, chances are they (or you) may have to cut the chain down to size…ask the mechanic for the rest of the chain/keep what’s left when you size your own chain and keep it in your kit…which will of course ensure you have the right chain if you have to replace a few links on the road! cheers!!
Great advice, thanks for sharing! I totally forgot to mention this. I always the customers at the shop if they want the extra links after a chain install. Cheers
The only thing I've learned over the years is keep it simple. I use toilet brush and dish washing liquid to clean my drive system. Making it simple means I do it regularly.. enjoy your video be safe
Simple is always best!
Trail Magic!
Are you still using your GoPro Hero 7 or are you filming exclusively on the GoPro Hero 9? The footage looks excellent, better than your previous videos. I use my GoPro Hero 9 for most of my work filming at 4K60FPS but it is so damn unreliable I tend to use my mobile, a Sony Xperia 1 IV. Either way it has been a great video!
I wish you trail magic on and off the trail, where ever you go my friend!
Thanks, that's so kind of you!
Good advice BUT did 8,000 kms thru india, nepal and sri lanka< ONLY cleaned my chain with a rag and added lube once a week> to may videos overdo keeping ur bike parts clean But thats just me
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi Dean, what do you think about the Muc-Off MCF All Weather Lube 120ml please Dean? Always enjoy your Informative Videos. thank you from Australia
It's good lube. But if you are riding in dryer, dustier environment than a dry lube is recommended.
Great video!!! And excellent advice. We clean our chain with two dollar store toothbrushes. Since we ride together, one rubs the toothbrushes on the chain while the other pours the soap solution and turns the chain. Ya, ideally one should clean the chain every night on tour, but we usually are so tired at the end of the day that is is done every other day. Cheers!
Thanks for the tip on the toothbrushes! I've been using the same method for years. Cheers
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures we were going to buy that exact tool for our tour, but two toothbrushes and dawn soap worked really good. Unfortunately two people are required to do a good job. Nonetheless really good advice on the maintenance. We are still look for a good pump option. We have a crankbros pump. It is a little small, but it gets the job done. Was thinking of upgrading to the lezyne micro floor pump. Any suggestions?
@@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887 Lezyne makes great pumps, can be pricey though. Bontrager (Trek) makes some good travel pumps. Also Bontrager has the best return policy on the market. 30 days unconditional returns. And I worked at a Trek store and I can tell you they really do stand behind that policy. Cheers
Another informative and useful video, thanks.
Thanks Mark!
Great advices as always.Thank you
My pleasure!
I like to watch your videos in a linear fashion but I just viewed your video about your mental health challenges. I wish you the best my friend.
Thank you. I really appreciate that. Cheers
