I’ve owned my Europa for 45 years. Most of the mods you’ve described I’ve done as well. But the front boot blower motor; you need that to push air through the heater core especially for de-misting the windshield. Another weight saver? Replace the steel splash shield under the brake master cylinder with an aluminum one. Need to re-route the ground wire from the front to the rear of the panel, but saves a couple of pounds.

Hi, Bob, all Lotus Europa Specials had the gold pin strips so even though your car may not be of the limited run JPS cars, it would still be correct to have the gold pin strips.

I had a 1973 Elan plus 2 with the same engine and that had Dellorto carburettors, the early ones had SUs. Perhaps the UK ones were different.

This one is an earlier 1972 production as noted by the absence of Leyland fender badges. You should add a front spoiler / air dam. I also recommend upgrading to SU HS6 carbs because they stay adjusted longer, and are easier to tune than the Strombergs when necessary. I also Jet Hot coated my TR6 header. Learned that trick from my Jeep 4.0. The Jet Hot coating is unbelievable there is almost no radiated heat from the exhaust system when it is added. The Monza exhaust is okay, but I think that the exhaust exiting on both side causes fumes to blow up into the passenger area. Notice you are using poly bushings on the suspension. This a great idea as the are less prone to rotting out the the original rubber ones. Looking very good.

You will need to rotate the windscreen washer nozzles by 90 degrees as you will see if you look closely from where the water jets exit.

Love it, back in the day at my friends garage in the 70s (had a New 73 Europa Spl (JPS on of the numbered ones #021) I was known there as Lotus Paul. LOL Also back then I found a add in AUTOWEEK for a mounting plate that you put in the distributor which made you able to adjust the points with the engine running like on the GM cars of that time, it was really cool setup.

Great video Bob! I have no.88 of the original 1972 run of 100 cars in the uk. The oatmeal interior was standard on these cars. I'm just converting my TC to Fuel injection with Weber look a like Throttle bodies...Love these cars!

Junk those crappy strombergs for twin DCOE webers as fitted in UK. Only problem your will need a weber head which is pretty much unobtanium these days🤣🤣

When I brought my Europa back from Puerto Rico to Atlanta the first thing that failed was one of the brake boosters. This was 1982 and there were no dealers in town although a "former" dealer, a Buick dealer, still had a tech that knew about the brand. He diagnosed the problem but couldn't fix it. I ordered parts from RD Enterprises and fixed it myself. The vapor canister and the pair of exhaust tubes were already gone because of the Weber conversion.

That aftermarket (Ansa?) exhaust really has a nice tone. And I bet you have those slightly clunky but very reliable dual SU carbs - the only car I know that would start with the shortest possible "kick" of the starter - literally one "pop" of the key to the starter and it would grumble to life on a warm start. Amazing!

I worked as a Lotus dealership mechanic in 1977-1979. Bob Carl's in Media , Pa. I forgot how cool those things were. You just don't see them ...even at car shows!

A car that captured my heart as a kid in '74

Beautiful car Bob thank you for sharing your passion. I was 20 in 74 and my brother's best friend got married and spent all his wedding money on a brand new Lotus Europa ! Ill never forget going for a ride in it, the sound of the engine and the rear window right at the back of my head what a thrill ! Needless to say the car lasted a lot longer than the marriage !

You have a real nice six there , you have addressed what needed to be done to make it safe and reliable. I had an early 74 mallard blue with O.D. and tan interior for 6 years i enjoyed every minute of owning it. Stay safe spring is in the air ! BTW how do you like the quick jack set up ?
